Cypress Cottage Guest House

Wir hatten einen schönen Aufenthalt in dem privat gefürten Cottage. Die Zimmer waren gut und das Frühstück wurde persönlich serviert. (Ist aber extra zu bezahlen!) Das Haus ist alt und hat Charme.

Uns fällt nichts ein was uns nicht gefallen hat!

Der Eigentümer hat uns sehr freundlich empfangen, sich viel Zeit genommen und uns alles ausführlich erklärt – inklusive toller Tipps für die Region.

Das Cottage selbst war für uns ganz in Ordnung. Die Küche ist allerdings recht eingeschränkt nutzbar: Die Ausstattung reicht für einfache Zubereitungen, für richtiges Kochen fehlen jedoch einige wichtige Utensilien. Was uns etwas gestört hat: Die Eingangstüren auf beiden Seiten waren stark verzogen und liessen sich nur mit Kraftaufwand öffnen. Zudem war es in der Wohnung recht kalt und stellenweise etwas ungemütlich. Insgesamt hat der Gesamteindruck aber gepasst. Für eine Zwischenübernachtung ist die Lage perfekt.

Excellent location, walkable to the town's many restaurants, cafes, shops and weekly market. The host was extremely welcoming and friendly, giving us very helpful suggestions on what to enjoy in Swellendam and the surrounding towns/area. It was such a pleasure chatting to Etienne with his vast knowledge of the history of the town. Many thanks to him and his family for being such amazing hosts at their beautiful home.

Nothing to dislike about the accommodation

We booked 2 hrs before arrival and Etienne our host make us feel at home immediately.Our room was very homely ,comfortable bed with warm electric blanket on a cold evening .Although we just slept over ,lovely place to linger longer.

Super schöne Unterkunft mit schöner Terrasse und Pool. Im Winter mit Heizdecken ausgestattet. Die Besitzer sind super nett und gaben uns gute Tipps.

L'edificio è molto bello anche se siamo rimasti troppo poco per apprezzarlo appieno. L'accoglienza cordiale dell'host che ci ha fornito, tra l'altro, molte utili indicazioni per i giorni seguenti e un sacchetto graditissimo di agrumi (mandaranci?) che ci hanno accompagnato in tutta la vacanza. La colazione è degna di nota, ottima, una delle migliori che abbiamo gustato in Sud Africa. Gli scaldaletto, molto apprezzati da tutti noi!

Purtroppo la camera che ci è stata assegnata, a piano terra, era molto fredda e piuttosto rumorosa: quando i vicini si sono alzati alle 6 di mattina per andare al lavoro siamo stati svegliati dai loro rumori e dalle luci del loro veicolo sparate contro le nostre finestre. Probabilmente altre camere sono migliori, questa era veramente molto ampia ma non troppo accogliente per la stagione invernale

We arrived at Cypress Cottage with no expectations, and what we discovered was an absolute hidden gem. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. This was a genuine 10/10 experience. The hospitality of the owners was simply outstanding. Sharing a glass of red wine, enjoying wonderful conversation, and relaxing by the fireplace created the most memorable moments. It was the perfect escape and left us feeling completely relaxed and refreshed. Although we didn't get to enjoy the swimming pool—it is winter, after all!—every other detail was flawless. The room was beautifully appointed and equipped with everything we could possibly need, including electric blankets, heaters, and luxurious, high-quality bedding that made for an exceptionally comfortable night's sleep. Cypress Cottage has truly stolen a place in our hearts, and we can't wait to return!

Wat een ontzettend fijne plek om te overnachten. Je gaat volledig terug in de tijd. Mooi om te ervaren. Etienne was ontzettend vriendelijk. Het houtvuur brandde voor ons bij aankomst.

Prachtige, authentieke cottage. Je waant je terug in de tijd met comfort van nu. Zeer smaakvol en sfeervol ingericht, vriendelijke en behulpzame eigenaren en een lieve hond. Het dorpje is schattig, veilig en relaxt.

Zeer behulpzame gastheer, weet veel over de omgeving te vertellen. We kregen voor onze reis richting Kaapstad veel goede tips, die we zelf nog niet op ons lijstje hadden. De guest house ademt geschiedenis en dit is erg leuk om te zien!

Etienne was very helpful. The family suite had everything we needed. When we needed to relight the amazing wood stove, Etienne dashed off to buy more firelighters. The beds were so warm with electric blankets. Spacious dining area, and parking close to the door!

Casa holandesa do século XVIII, bem clássica, jardim muito bonito, e uma piscina no fundo. Anfitriões extremamente receptivos, fomos recebidos pelo Etienne, e pelo mascote da casa seu cachorro Daniel, nos deu inúmeras dicas do que fazer na cidade, e ainda orientações sobre o nosso roteiro futuro na Garden Route. Os anfitriões farão você se sentir em casa. Recomendo fortemente este lugar.

It was comfortable and welcoming. Etienne greeted us with a glass of sherry. The room was lovely with attention to detail eg an electric blanket. Pleasant outdoor area to sit or family lounge to watch TV or read a book from Etienne’s extensive library. Breakfast was excellent served on china in a lovely dining room

Cozy atmosphere, helpful host

We had to stop to swellendam before hitting the road for oudshourn. We were so happy we selected this place as it is very well situated and everything is within walking distance. The host made sure to make our stay comfortable. He even came to fetch at our car as it was raining heavily. Also sleeping in this cottage gives you a unique experience as it’s old and antique and for us it was amazing . The dog was so cute and also the cat . We will definitely be staying there if we redo the garden route . Thanks again for making our stay comfortable.

Full of character

We received a very warm welcome from Richard (and Daniel, the dog). He was very helpful in finding us a taxi for a day trip around the beautiful area.( We used SAXI which was brilliant). The room was up some wooden steps, but Richard helped us with our luggage. The bed was comfortable and the shower was excellent. It took us only a couple of minutes to walk to cafes, restaurants and a supermarket. We felt safe walking there at night . Cypress Cottage is a lovely old house. I chose it for its character, and I was not disappointed.

The breakfast is a bit overpriced.

Friendly staff and clean rooms. Not sure where they get the body wash....amazing. We on a business trip and drove more than 40KM back to the guest house, just to stay a few more days

Geweldig mooi koloniaal huis met veel sfeer, comfortabel bed en kamer. Super vriendelijk vooral toen de storm een boom naast het huis viel en de stroom uitviel waren ze heel behulpzaam. Zeker een aanrader om terug te komen!

ontbijt was verzorgd en mooi zicht op de tuin .Het zwembad zag er uitnodigend uit, jammergenoeg was het weer niet goed, dus hebben we het niet kunnen testen. De gastheer was heel behulpzaam ook met tips om onze verdere reis aan te vatten. Een echte meerwaarde!

De kamers zijn redelijk gehorig.

Die Gastgeber sind unglaublich freundlich! Die Lage is direkt an der Altstadt und es sieht super schön dort aus. Es gibt sogar eine Heizdecke, was die kalten Temperaturen im Zimmer sehr aus haltbar gemacht hat.

Ich habe eine Hausstauballergie und musste nach betreten der Unterkunft direkt Niesen. Der Gastgeber hat dann während wir zu Abend essen waren unser Zimmer nochmal selbstständig geputzt. Es war vorher auf jeden Fall aber auch schon sauber, nur nicht Allergiker freundlich. Wahrscheinlich sind die antiken Möbel oder Vorhänge der Grund. Wenn man eine Hausstauballergie hat würde ich die Unterkunft eher nicht empfehlen. Aber ansonsten gibt es keine Beanstandungen.

The combination of an authentic swellendam house and host, who gave us hints for Swellendam and our next stops, was an amazing experience! We will come back!

We absolutely loved our stay! Our room was beautiful and incredibly clean. Our host was great and very knowledgeable of the area. We had wonderful, interesting chats about the history of the town. We loved the general atmosphere – charming and just a little bit mysterious in the best way – as well as the careful attention to detail. We will definitely return. Thank you!

Probably one of the coziest places I’ve ever been to. We had a very spacious room which was very clean and equipped with everything needed. The location is perfect to stroll around the village. Restaurants, cafes and shops are all in walking distance. The personal was all very friendly and polite. The breakfast was one of the best we had in South Africa.

Die Lage war mega. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten direkt ums Eck. Die schöne Kirche als Sehenswürdigkeit und einige Cafès, Shops und Restaurants fußläufig erreichbar. Der Vermieter Etienne hatte viele Tipps zur Hand.

Cypress Cottage was well located. I love the beautiful gardens. Room was clean.Very friendly hosts.

I didn't like that there was no TV available in the family room. The beds were very uncomfortable and noisy. I really didn't like not being informed that people will be entering my space cleaning the room.

Richard and Etienne were very welcoming and kind hosts. We enjoyed being greeted by the friendly dog and cats as well. The room was comfortable and the garden was absolutely beautiful. Hosts gave good local recommendations and it was easy to walk to places in town

Recommend bringing an eye/sleep mask for light sleepers with some of the outside light and light from the AC unit but not a big problem

Prachtig pand met een goede kamer. Babybedje was geen enkel probleem. Airco op de kamer. Fijn zwembad. Fijne eigenaren. Gratis parkeren. Zouden hier zeker weer terugkomen.

Big cottage with two rooms anda very large comfortable bed. Beautiful garden. Parking just outside. Helpful host that helped us book a table for dinner. Great location. We would definitely stay there again!
