Had a wonderful stay at Canal House, especially as a solo traveller. The location was perfect—centrally located and within a quick walk of Central station, restaurants, Dam Square, Jordaan, and other attractions. The room was spacious, airy, well maintained, and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. A special mention to Evert, the owner, who was incredibly kind and helpful and made sure my stay was relaxing and pleasant. I’d happily stay here again and highly recommend Canal House for anyone visiting Amsterdam!

It was absolutely beautiful, just loved it. There was everything you could need in the room, including toiletries, drinks, tv etc. Evert the host is ace!

If you stay in Amsterdam, then stay here, its in a historical building, packed with character, great view, 5 mins walk from central station, on the canal, everything you need already here, drinks, snacks, toiletries and a host that could not be more helpful. Incredible stay. To note, this is a traditional house, and the stairs are very steep....and beautiful.

I honestly couldn’t come up with anything that wouldn’t be extreme nitpicking. If anything, it would be great if the apartment was available more often for longer stretches of time but that just goes to show how popular the apartment is among people who know.

Loved everything about the apartment. Spacious, comfortable, very quirky with some really interesting books to read. Lots of free snacks and drinks available. Location was beautiful right on canal. Loved the narrow staircase leading up to the first floor. Our host Evert was so nice and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this apartment for a really authentic experience of Amsterdam. Location was great; quick walk from the train station and right in the heart of everything. Room was exactly as it looks in the picture which was great. Bed was more comfortable than it looked! Shower was big and clean. Everything was excellent Host communicated well, included soaps, coffee facilities and took our luggage up the steep stairs for us whilst we wandered around Amsterdam, so it was an excellent stay. Gave an insight into what it is probably like to live there as a local.

Only issue for some will be the really steep stairs - but nothing can really be done about that.

The food, snacks, and drinks were outstanding.

Beautiful room with lovely views over the canal, in the centre but away from the hubbub. Perfect location with a very generous and thoughtful supply of teas, coffees and toiletries. We enjoyed meeting the host and his cats - all were just as charming as the room.

I wouldn’t change a thing. We loved it. The stairs are a little challenging but all part of the charm.

The flat is perfected located for central Amsterdam. It’s also quiet. The room itself is totally charming, tastefully decorated and authentic . Very comfortable bed and lovely bedlinen.

We absolutely loved our stay in this house. It’s incredibly charming, full of history and very well located. The host was exceptionally kind and helpful. The bed was very comfortable. One of our favorite details was occasionally hearing soft violin music drifting up from downstairs when the host was teaching, it suited the house and the whole atmosphere perfectly! Highly recommended!

The canal house is the perfect way to experience classic Amsterdam. The location is amazing. Close to the central station and city center, while not being in the loud part of town. The host provided everything we needed for our stay (extra towels, iron, treats, etc).

The only downside to the property is the staircase which makes it difficult for luggage, but the host is upfront about this in the description and it was nothing unexpected.

The location was perfect, everything is pretty much on your doorstep. I’ve never stayed in an apartment that was so fully stocked! Multiple alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks in the fridge, fruit juice, teas, coffees, hot chocolates, biscuits, multiple toiletries, toothpaste, even sensitive shower creams, everything has been thought of.

What a beautiful place to stay in Amsterdam! We loved our stay here. Easy access to Central Station and everything else you'd want to explore in the city. Our host was thoughtful and welcoming, creating a comfortable space that makes you feel like you're living in a canal house.

We truly enjoyed the generous space, rustic yet modern vibe, fresh smell of the bed linen + duvets and watching life along the canal from the windows 🤩 The steep and narrow staircase actually added to an Amsterdam experience as the older buildings are known for them. Location is very convenient with tram stop and central station just few mins walking distance. Evert is very responsive. Lovely and friendly too. We totally loved this place and hope to return again.

Fantastic apartment in a great location. The apartment is full of character and Evert is a fantastic host - very friendly and welcoming. He made sure we had everything we need. The location is also brilliant, it's central but not too noisy or touristy in the particular street the apartment is on. Plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars nearby and close to everything in central Amsterdam.

The room was really lovely, spacious as advertised. In a charming historic canal house with canal views. The bed was very comfortable. A nice space to spend time in. Snacks and drinks were included which was a nice unexpected touch.

The stairs are very steep to the room, not a problem for us but wouldn’t be accessible to some. A full length mirror in the room and more places to hang things up would be good additional touches.

Wir wurden sehr herzlich vom Gastgeber empfangen. Gute Tipps erhalten;immer erreichbar falls was sein sollte. Perfektes Apartment. Es gab Kaffee,Tee,gefüllte Minibar und sogar Kekse,sehr aufmerksam. Bett bequem, alles sehr sauber. Wir haben uns gleich wohl gefühlt. Zu beachten ist die steile Treppe nach oben, dies ist jedoch auch in der Beschreibung erwähnt. Sehr zentral gelegen. Bahnhof nur 5min entfernt. Toller Aufenthalt, wir kommen wieder.

The most amazing period Property in the heart of Amsterdam! The suite was every bit as beautiful as it looked in the pictures, super comfy and spacious, and as the name suggests, touches of class everywhere you look. The mini bar was generously stocked, and there were plenty of good quality toiletries to choose from in the bathroom. Evert was the perfect host, greeting us on arrival and then again to wish us safe travels on checkout. Will definitely be returning again when visiting!

The localisation is perfect for sighseeing Amsterdam and participate in events, as well as get to any other part of Amsterdam or NL as it is so close to the railway station. The welcome is really nice and you may get all necessary information. Additionally, fridge holds the most wanted items. The cold apple juice and sweets made my day while arriving there in a hot day. A place worth recomendation!

It’s beautiful. Stunning. Thoughtful amenities, a library, plush bedding, ambient lighting, wonderful views and you’re on the doorstep to it all. Felt like you were staying in part of Amsterdam’s history.

The stairs are authentic, which means extremely steep and narrow. There’s not much to be done about this if you’re to preserve the heritage of the space but it’s the only thing that I didn’t like

Evert is a fantastic host who made us welcome from arrival to departure. The room is beautiful and spacious with a wonderful view of the quiet street below and the canal. The bed is roomy and very comfortable. The location is fantastic - close enough to restaurants, bars, public transport, etc to walk but just far enough away to be nice and quiet at night. The two cats who live downstairs in a separate part of the house are also a major attraction.

Excellent location, minutes from the train and bus station and loads of great bars, brunch spots and restaurants nearby. On the quieter side of central Amsterdam which is perfect, and 5-10 mins stroll from the main tourist spots. Room is warm, comfortable, huge! The sofa and tv is an added bonus. We’d stay again!

Nothing to complain about at all! However if you struggle with stairs they are VERY steep, the steepest stairs I have walked up, so make sure you are fully mobile before booking!

Fantastic host, great location, great communication overall, the space was clean and had everything you might need! We had a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend this place to other travelers. Looks just like the photos and yes the stairs are steep but it's well documented in the details/photos and should come as no surprise to future guests. Our host was kind enough to bring out bags up for us and also he allowed us to store our things before check in (while the room was being cleaned) which was a huge help!

A little more storage space for clothes - some more hooks for hanging things maybe - but that's such a minor thing compared to everything else this apartment offered

A king-size duvet instead of two singles

The room is absolutely stunning with beautiful light coming in through the windows, a view of the canal, and a cozy feel. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was functional with a great shower and Evert was very generous in providing coffee and treats. Evert greeted us at check-in (we communicated through WhatsApp) and the process was very easy! He was available by message to answer all questions and provided great recommendations. The location is fantastic. Easy to walk/bike anywhere with the central station also only about 8 mins away by foot.

We were not bothered by the stairs, but do be aware they are very steep as stated. This is of course to be expected in the Netherlands, but do take into account if you have issues with mobility.

Evert is the most incredible host - super accommodating and has thought of everything! The bed is super comfy - two duvets were a winner, juice and a fully stocked fridge and bathroom complete with hairdryer and curlers! The location is perfect: super close to the train station when you're travelling with luggage and situated between all the best places to visit. The view is stunning and one of the best in Amsterdam which added to the whole experience. The room itself is enormous, and the sound of violins playing below was wonderful! There is a board in the room with recommendations from previous guests - we booked ahead for the majority of places we ate/drank. Stumbled upon some fantastic markets and boutiques in Jordaan. You are a stones throw from Haarlemmerdijk with the vintage shops and cafes and the bar on the corner (Louis) is brilliant to stop before you head out for the night. We had the best stay in Amsterdam for the first time and will be back!!! Thank you for making our stay and my birthday so memorable, we absolutely loved our time with you, Evert, THANK YOU!

There was nothing not to like!

Evert was such a welcoming host! His place was perfect for exploring Amsterdam. The unit is beautiful and had a great view of the canal. The stairs are very steep so if you have mobility issues it may not be the place for you. It’s an old canal house so the stairs are part of the charm! We also enjoyed talking to Evert and welcoming his 2 friendly cats. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again!

The room is fantastic and the person who met us at the apartment was very friendly and kind. Evert couldnt have been more helpful. He helped with the bags on the narrow stairwell and provided excellent info both in writing and in person about the area. The apartment is unique, spacious and well located. its simple to find. We were able to walk to get to all the key sites. Its very clean with a really comfortable bed, nice desks for writing and a comfortable living room. The shower is great. The hosts have thought of every little detail including shampoos, ear plugs, lovely coffee and teas, juices in the fridge etc. There isnt a closet but there are loads of hooks, drawers and 2 lugguge racks so its very simple to get to your things.

I didnt like working with the rental agency instead of my local host. If I used the booking.com app I would only get the rental agency who would tell me to text the local person but I couldnt text. So it was really awkward to get info back and forth. They didnt communicate to the local person what time we were arriving for instance. Evert the local person was fantastic. Secondly, I was surprised to learn that they needed a deposit until a few weeks before my booking. This info was sent to me after I left home and I couldnt get the text message from my bank to approve it. While it would have been simple to do from home, it was tricky with my European SIM card and on unsecured wifi. This requirement should be really well communicated in advance. Third, for some people, the narrow stairs could be an issue. For us, this was part of the charm but it may not work for people who struggle with stairs. Fourth, it would be nice to have a keyless entry so one doesn’t have to organize a time to meet, with air travel unpredictable, meeting someone at a specific time can be a challenge. It worked out for us as Evert went out of his way to be available but a coded lock entry is much simpler.

The location was perfect for our needs. Our entire stay was incredible. The host, the location, the amenities, the atmosphere of the room and the VIEW!!!

I love this room, so spacious and charming like the name. Our host was so helpfully. The location was perfect for us. Close enough to the city center but also close to the outer canals which has better restaurants and a quieter code which we perfected most days.
