10/10 The star of the show was the restaurant! The husband and wife team as well as their son! The food was truly exquisite! Each year for our anniversary we try different fine dining restaurants and this one was truly unique, the attention to detail and thought that goes into each dish is absolutely superb. One of the dishes took my brain back to my childhood and I was in tears! Just brilliant! They also gave us a beautiful card for our anniversary!! We spent a week at Serendipity in their Master Suite and absolutely loved every moment of our luxury stay. From the moment we arrived, the environment felt safe, welcoming and beautifully maintained. The staff were warm, attentive and made the experience feel both personal and effortless. The suite itself was immaculate, comfortable and thoughtfully designed, making it the perfect space to relax and unwind. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and their on-site award winning restaurant truly exceeded expectations. We opted for the bespoke 5/8 course tasting menu, and it was an unforgettable culinary experience - every dish was carefully crafted by their incredibly talented chef - Lizelle. Booking in advance is essential, and well worth it. The location is equally special, with so much to do in and around Wilderness - from hiking and canoeing to exploring nearby shops and markets. I would highly recommend this to any couple looking for a peaceful getaway and the chance to experience a truly local, scenic gem.

Absolutely nothing, everything was perfect.

Wir wurden sehr freundlich von der Gastgeberin empfangen. Wir waren 2 Nächte im Serendipity Country House und haben für den 2. Abend im Restaurant reserviert. Das Essen war sehr gut. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und sehr hilfsbereit. Das Frühstück war gut und frisch zubereitet. Das Rührei ist ausgezeichnet.

Da der Restaurantbetrieb auch im Eingangsbereich der Unterkunft stattfindet, ist die Geräuschkulisse im Zimmer gut hörbar. Die am gegenüberliegenden Flußufer verlaufende N2 ist bei offenem Fenster gut zu hören.

The breakfast was rather disappointing, given that the guest house is in the same building as a fancy restaurant. The staff were fine, but not as friendly and helpful as elsewhere.

Schöne Lage, gemütliche Zimmer. Toll, dass man mit den zur Verfügung gestellten Kanus gleich lospaddeln kann. Vielen Dank an Ben, der uns nett betreut hat. Hervorragendes Frühstück. Wir haben am Abend das Acht-Gänge-Menü gebucht und waren von der Vielfalt, Zubereitung und Präsentation sehr beeindruckt. Es war einfach toll.

Superb location and excellent accommodation. An easy walk into town. The staff were extremely helpful. The meal we had in the restaurant was fantastic, great flavours and the use of local produce introducing us to tastes we’ve never tried before. The matching wines were great and from less well known areas of SA. In the UK it would have all cost twice as much.

We were there for dinner, stayed overnight and had breakfast in the morning. We felt welcome and looked after every second of the stay. We can highly recommend this place and will definitely be back!

An excellent house in a great location that we can heartily recommend. The dinner we enjoyed was outstanding prepared with great creativity and skill, and wine pairing with the food was perfect.

Our stay was too short!

I loved the location, right on the river. I liked being able to borrow a boat to row up the river. And above all the restaurant was absolutely amazing and must be the main reason for anybody to visit. Local ingredients and innovative cuisine make this a must visit culinary highlight on the garden route.

This place is a little gem. Little things like a magnifying mirror in the bathroom is a bonus. Very clean and comfortable beds. Canoeing free of charge . Fabulous river trip from near by. Excellent food organised in the evening. Either a 5 course or 8 course menu . We had the 5 course which was 5 star . Michelin equivalent. Ben the manager was great along with the staff. Thank you, we will be back.

Very comfortable stay in a beautiful lcations. The restaurant on side is also excellent adn I would suggest eating there if staying at the guest house.

We stayed at Belle Balance Bush Lodge for three nights as a family group, my husband, our two daughters and their partners and it was absolutely fabulous from start to finish. The lodge is truly beautiful: boutique in style, thoughtfully designed, and impeccably maintained. Our rooms were exceptional and so beautifully appointed, with super comfy beds. The staff were outstanding and made the experience feel really personal. A special mention must go to Lulu, Googoo and Junior, who were all exceptional and went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The food was superb, fresh, high-quality ingredients throughout. We’d pre-warned the lodge that our group included four vegans and two vegetarians, and the chef went to great lengths to create wonderful meals for us. Thoughtful, creative and absolutely delicious menu every night, so good that we’re fairly sure other guests were a little envious! The game drive was fantastic, but what really made the stay magical was the wildlife right on our doorstep. Bernard, one of the resident hippos, visited most evenings just outside the restaurant and our rooms, which was an absolute delight. We also regularly had giraffes wandering across the lawns, calmly dining on the nearby trees, unforgettable moments. This is a truly special place. We honestly couldn’t fault a single thing and are already talking about when we can return. Highly, highly recommended.

Breakfast is very good, but the buffet meat and cheeses should be covered to protect from flies etc.

Amazing staff and a wonderful dinner. Beautiful view from the room, everything is clean, and the location is excellent. You can take boats out and explore the area it’s clear the staff truly care about this place and run it with love.

The room is very small it’s practically impossible to open two large suitcases at the same time.

Leider hat uns das optionale Restaurant Dinner nicht gefallen. Wir fanden es viel zu teuer für das was geboten wurde und vieles auch nicht lecker.

Die room was spacious, comfortable and had a walk in closet! The bathroom was equipped, with a nice Victorian style bath, good shower and all the rest. The accommodation is all you would expect of an premium Guesthouse. There are canoes available to explore the river. The highlight was undoubtedly the fine dining experience which was one of the best I have ever experienced and I can heartily recommend. Do not visit Serendipity without experiencing their dining.

I was not a fan of the coffee machine in the room or the one at breakfast. Perhaps a French press(Plunger) in the room and some filter coffee at breakfast. I know its been a trend (even at some hotels) to add a coffee machine, but this never works very well, everyone ends up struggling with machine settings and choices and you never seem to get what you want. By the time you finally managed to get a cold coffee (usually) after a queue your food is either cold or you are just grumpy from the experience. Filter coffee can just be poured and served to many people in under a minute and it usually tastes better too. That is why hotels and diners has been using it for decades - lets stick with what works.

Die Anlage ist sehr schön mit kleinen, aber zweckmäßig eingerichteten Zimmern. Für eine Nacht (oder etwas länger) ist es perfekt. Das Frühstück war sehr gut. Besonders schön fanden wir, dass wir auch nach dem auschecken ein Kanu nutzen durften. Das angegliederte Restaurant mit sehr guter Küche ist mehrfach ausgezeichnet worden.

Great location at the river in a nice authentic building. The breakfast was nice and the gourmet restaurant in the building was an experience. Wilderness is a great part of Garden route.

We had some issues with the aircondition in one of our three rooms. We would have appreciated some feedback on the situation even if they were not able to fix it during our stay. Fairly high pricing.

Serendipity is perfectly located, if your goal is to be in the heart of the Wilderness. the property is on the edge of the lagoon and provides incredible views of the Lagoon and the Wilderness. It is a quiet secluded spot just towards the end of Waterside Road on the way to Fairy Knowe Hotel. Our hosts, Rudolf and Lizelle, were absolutely wonderful. they welcomed us like we were old friends, and after showing us around the property, made every effort to make our stay special and very comfortable. We were fortunate enough to secure a booking at their top rated exclusive restaurant and that experience, was a gastronomic delight! To obtain a table for their dinner is difficult due to the quality of the food and the experience, however, if food is your thing, you have to try and secure a booking. Dinner at the restaurant is truly a magical experience, not to mention the incredible wine list which provides wines not only for every taste, but for every course that you will be lucky to be served. We count ourselves so fortunate to be able to have eaten there. On any given day, Breakfast is superb! you are greeted by a sumptuous yoghurt, fruit and granola starter with fresh fruit juice. Full continental breakfast available, and in addition, a hot breakfast made to order can also be had. Once again, all to the highest standard. The rooms are marvelous, so well equipped and designed, they lack for nothing and every detail has been thought of, in order to provide guests with a truly marvelous stay. For those who are a little more adventurous, canoes are available on the premises in case a row on the lagoon is your thing. Beach towels are provided for those who wish to explore the magnificent beaches that are in the area. We had an amazing time and will return. Exceptional accommodation and in our minds, real value for money. Rudolf and Lizelle, thank you for sharing Serendipity with us, we hope to be able to return really soon.

Nothing could have been better, everything was absolutely perfect. If I had to make one comment, keep boerewors on the breakfast menu as an option! Although, according to others at breakfast, the bacon was superb!!! Oh there is one more thing, have the coffee/espresso machine available throughout the day for those needing their caffeine fix. Truly nothing was an issue, there was absolutely nothing that we did not like.

If you are visiting wilderness you must either come to serendipity for their amazing dining experience, or stay at the fantastic country house to enjoy the beautiful town and surrounding area. The dining experience was one of the best I’ve ever had. Incredible food, absolutely fantastic service and attention to details, and a terrific wine pairing option. You need to dine here. The owner and his wife (who is the chef) put so much care into the menu and the dishes. The owner Rudolph will also spend 15 minutes at the start with you whilst you enjoy your appertivo to explain the entire menu. The stay itself was also terrific. Ben our host was so welcoming and made sure we had everything we could need. So many great recommendations and places to visit. The rooms are super comfortable and cosy. The hotel is right on the river so the hotel can give you a kayak to explore the area via water. Lovely breakfast and very friendly staff.

Only complaint I’d say is the dining experience does go on quite late and as the rooms are directly above the dining area you do hear a lot of guests noise. I think they could sit later guests in other areas.

Man hat einen schönen Blick auf die Lagune (Flussende) von Wilderness. Wir habe das kostenfreie Kanu für eine schöne, kleine Rundfahrt benutzt. Das Frühstück ist sehr gut, aber auch nicht aussergewöhnlich (wie das sehr empfehlenswerte angeschlossene Restaurant).

Man sollte nicht gerade wie wir am Sonntag dort übernachten, weil das das angeschlossene Restaurant geschlossen ist.

Ben was very helpful and welcoming. Room was great and breakfasts were lovely. The added bonus was the restaurant in the property where we had a fantastic dining experience with lovely staff.

Homely feel with only four rooms and wonderful staff who made us feel so welcome. Despite arriving before check in, they happily sorted a canoe for us to paddle up river to visit the waterfall. An idyllic setting in November when Wilderness is still relatively quiet. Room was a good size and a lovely terrace area (shared) to relax. Breakfast was great and dinner in the restaurant was superb! Thanks to all the team!

Sehr schöne Lage am Fluss mit der Möglichkeit Kanu zu fahren, wenn das Wetter mit macht. Die Zimmer sind schön eingerichtet und bieten eine Kaffee und Teebar und ein wenig Gebäck. Vom Zimmer konnten wir auf eine große Terrasse, die für alle 4 Zimmer im OG erreichbar war. Dort waren auch jeweils 2 Liegen und ein kleiner Tisch mit Stühlen je Zimmer. von dort hat man einen sehr schönen Blick auf den Fluss. Bei den Liegen könnten noch Sonnenschirme dabei sein, kann aber sein, dass diese erst im Sommer aufgebaut werden. Die Möglichkeit am sehr guten Dinner des Restaurants teilzunehmen ist natürlich auch ein sehr schöner Aspekt. Das Frühstück hat auch keine Wünsche offen gelassen.

It was in the most magnificent location. Ben was the most kind and helpful person and breakfast was outstanding. We had some lovely walks round wilderness and it was a very well appointed room. It was peaceful. Views across the river were exceptional. The restaurant has won prizes and is to be highly recommended.

‏ What an incredible experience! We were fortunate to stay two unforgettable nights in beautiful Serendipity. From the minute we came into this family run Guest House, we felt at home. The beautiful, specious, and cozy room, with a terrace overlooking the river, had everything we could have wished for, and more (thank you for the tasty treats). The whole team was attentive and so kind, taking care of all our wishes and giving us great tips about what to do around Wilderness. But without a doubt, the absolute highlight of our stay was the Restaurant! In one word: Wow! Chef Lizelle is a real master of her craft. Every South African inspired dish was on point, tasty, and beautifully presented. We were so lucky to have the opportunity to eat here two nights in a row, and have different dishes from Chef Lizette’s creation on each day. The wine pairing was perfect as well. We tried many different wines from their great collection, and learned a lot from the knowledgeable and attentive restaurant team. Thank you so much, to the whole Serendipity team for making our stay here so magical! We Hope that one day we will visit again…

We had a very memorable stay and on top of it we had a scrumptious evening meal at the restaurant. This is a occasion that we will cherish for many many years. We had a booking at the restaurant and decided to stay over and it was the best decision we could make.

The room is nice and clean with all the things you need, with great balcony looking at the river ( shared with other guests). However the sound at night from the restaurant doesn't let you sleep. one have to wait for the guests to leave past 11pm to get peace and quite.

The rooms were beautiful and very comfortable. There was a welcome decanter of port. Door leads out into shared terrace with sun beds, overlooking the Touw river and sunset. Lizelle, being a top chef prepared and served a gourmet fine dining experience. Wonderful food as you would expect and a very memorable evening.
