We did not have meals but we loved the Decor, Ambience, Friendliness of staff and the dining room area.

There could have been a little table in the bedroom to put make up on and to blowdry your hair.

Only small problem was a rather short bed

The property is almost exactly in between Cape Town and Johannesburg so is very convenient. The rooms are comfortable although quite small. The bed is king sized and very comfortable. A good dinner and breakfast are offered at an extra cost. The dining room is eclectically furnished. Pets are welcome and there is a swimming pool for hot days. There is plenty of safe parking.

Unfortunately, we were there during hectic rainfall, so everything was damp and muddy and hard to keep clean which was a pity. We have been there in good weather and can confirm that the property looks better.

Very creative decor, very friendly and accommodating staff, delicious dinner, unfortunately we left before breakfast. And the sell the most beautiful hand crafted pottery platters and bowls.

An amazing place

We stopped on our drive to Cape Town for a stop over. The place is a creative paradise. The room we stayed in was beautiful with many unique artefacts/art. There was a nice big stoep wrapped around the building that was beautifully laid out. There was an amazing pottery and craft studio that made unique beautiful pieces, with local artists and locally sourced materials. The dining room was equally amazing with a nice warm fireplace as it was quite cold that day. Food was great and plating was creative. The staff were exceptional. They put a blanket on our windscreen overnight as everything was frosted over in the morning. Phillip was an attentive and informative host. I wished I could have stayed longer

This is a beautiful place in a small town Richmond, don't drive past, come and enjoy good aromatic food that reminds you of the earth, the presentation was excellent bringing nature inside the restaurant on your plate! The accommodation offers peace away from busy towns, work, this is a place where you can clear your mind and relax. The rooms decor are exceptional well chosen and perfect. The personnel were communicating from reservation stage right through to the day we arrived at our accommodation, they were available, helpful and showed us around the premises.

There is nothing I did not like!

It had everything you needed and more - a lot of thought put into small details. Car window screen covered at night to stop frost build up. Decor superb and different. Food was outstanding - carefully prepared with lovely finishing touches. Very warm and welcoming staff.

The location, facilities and staff were nothing short of amazing. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and the food was exceptional and amazing value. The chef (Chris) is a young and upcoming talent for sure. The manager, Nashville was very attentive to our needs, and we had some great conversations with him.

From the welcome to the meal and finally to the bedroom, our overnight stay was exactly what we needed. We were welcomed, well fed and the air conditioner and linen in our room ensured a comfortable night's sleep.

We only stayed overnight on our long distance trip but Sauer Group establishments will definitely be the name I type in to my accommodation search when traveling across the centre of SA from now on. Kliphuijs is a visual pleasure and the staff, facilities and breakfast were all amazing.

We have stayed here three times before and always thought it perfectly pleasant, which is why we booked again. We do think more attention could be given to the showers : the shower head in our bathroon produced a very thin trickle of water and a grab rail is recommended as the floor is very slippery. The bedroom is well appointed and comfortable although a bit too full with accessories.

Kliphuijs has expanded and now has a new impressive triple volume dining area. We sat near an open wood burner fire but the huge space would benefit by having a wood burner on the opposite side of the room as well. Wait staff were friendly and willing but the service from the kitchen left much to be desired. Despite food orders being pre booked we could see that the kitchen staff were not multi tasking. We waited 20 minutes for the starter to be served. After this was cleared we waited 40 minutes for the main meal to be served. We could see the dessert was a long way from being served so we gave up on that. The food, when it arrived was good and well presented but we suggest more attention be given to efficiency in the kitchen rather than choosing a particular little branch as garnish.

No TV in room Security was nowhere to found when we wanted to leave in the morning to let us out if the premises after looking for him for about 10 minutes. Entrance into the Hotel needs to be sign posted better myself and other guests were looking were to get in and had to phone for directions

It was a great sleep-over stop en-route back to Cape Town. Decor is wonderful. Supper was really good and in such a special setting - true Karoo hospitality at its best.

Place is breathtakingly beautiful and the hosts are amazing. Shoutout to Nashville for covering our cars windscreens with linen to protect them from winter frost. That's very thoughtful.

The friendly staf

The hosts checked up on me during the day to see what time I will arrive. When I arrived they were waiting for me and welcomed me at the gate and when I got to the room they had switched on the aircon to warm it up since Richmond was extremely cold, they also warmed up the bed with an electric blanket. After I parked my car they told me there's usually frost and they covered the windshield with a cloth so that I don't struggle in the morning. This was the best night-stop driving to Cape Town.

Everything is just beautiful, the rooms, the gardens and we loved the huge stoep.

Setting and ambiance great.. The rooms, garden and restaurant looks very good. Dinner itself was five star as well as service from Nashville, Ricardo and chef.. Breakfast also good.

We requested a table for dinner and our room nr was on the table, but when we arrived for dinner, it seemed the general manager decided to give table to other guests and he already left for the day.... The shower only had shampoo, no bodywash. The bathroom floor was dirty, as when I dried in front of shower, the towel was brown from dust on floor...

Wow!! What an interesting place! We had a lovely stay at Kliphuijs!! Dinner (lamb curry) was amazing and we spent most of our evening in the cosy (wonderfully decorated) restaurant next to the fireplace. Shane-Will was very helpful and friendly with all communication and check-in was easy. Philip made us feel welcome. The room was comfortable with electric blankets and more than enough warm blankets for the cold weather. The bed was super comfortable!! When we arrived at our car in the morning we were pleasantly surprised! Our considerate hosts covered our front window with a sheet to protect it from the frost. What a touch of class!! We will definitely be back!!!

Good location. Good place to stop. Very friendly staff. Facilities in room were adequate.

The beds and pillows were extremely uncomfortable and resulted in a spasm in my neck that I have yet to get rid of. We had travelled far and were tired and had even further to go the next day. Also, little shongalolos in the bathroom... 'Large double bed' was probably accurate but is interpreted as 'large' which is a requirement for a man 2 metres tall. That was the reason we selected Kliphuys.

Food was excellent. Full marks to the young chef!

Anyone with a modicum of taste will greatly appreciate the impeccably decorated and beautifully warm kliphuis. We were so pleasantly surprised that such a beautiful, stylish, and comfortable place could be found on our road trip back to Pretoria. Our room had everything we needed, including a fantastic bed, the food was lovely (and the dessert dramatic), and the staff were incredibly warm and inviting. We left with the biggest bunch of fresh spinach straight from their garden, well rested, well fed, and very sad to go. We have already told everyone we know who drives up and down the country to do themselves a favour and stay at the Kilphuis.

The check‑in was smooth, the bed and everything was super comfortable, the service was top‑tier, and the whole experience felt like staying in a resort – it was amazing, made me feel like I was outside of Richmond. Ricardo was very nice and helped me take bomb pictures for my Instagram, making the stay even more special. The staff were one of the best, lovely people with so much respect, and everything was just top‑notch and unforgettable, and I left feeling like I wanted to move in lol. I’ll definitely be back very soon.

This property is incredible. The decor, the incredible garden the staff were exceptional. Nashville and Carlos were incredible making sure we settled in well. The food was delicious and the dinning area just wow! Actually every inch of the property is just WoW!! Thank you for the incredible stay and hospitality!

The room felt a little rudimentary and small. not enough space to open suitcases comfortably etc (ive frequently stayed at the Sauer Groups hotel in Hanover which has really lovely spacious beautifully decorated suites)

The location is almost directly between Johannesburg and Noordhoek. The accommodation is comfortable and pet friendly with a swimming pool. You can order dinner and breakfast so you can travel light. The bed is very large and there is a bathroom with a big shower and a fridge.

The decor is rustic. I like it but other travelers must understand that. It is not self catering but the restaurant is excellent but limited to three or four dishes. There is a limited bar as well.

Staff were lovely and the new restaurant was fantastic. Loved the rusks.

Bedroom was cramped, fan did not work and mosquitoes were terrible.

We did not arrive at Kliphuijs Richmond, as we were informed that the entire town did not have Electricity or Water. But our gracious host moved us to their sister hotel in Hanover.

Everything! Nashville was welcoming and very helpful! All staff were polite and helpful. Spotlessly clean, neat and cared for hotel. Loved the gardens and all lounges. Dinner and breakfast delicious. Love to stay longer next time.

Nothing. Electricity went off with the rain and there was no water, but staff came to the rescue with hot and cold water. Not their fault at all.
