The accommodation was in a great location, just a short walk from the centre of Ambleside. The room was clean, cosy, and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily come back again!

The property was central to the town and easy to locate. The free parking was a big bonus and made planning easier. The owner was friendly and helped with locating the lake and the town. It also came with tea & coffee, kettle and a hairdryer which were all helpful.

Whilst the location was good the rooms were slightly on the smaller side, especially the bathroom. Also, the bathroom had no soap or anything in the bathroom which we were not aware of. Small stains around the skirting boards and such but not too bad.

Great location, host was very friendly and helpful. Room was compact, but clean and had everything I needed. Overall, i thought this was great value for money.

The shower and toilet were cramped. Having come from a quiet location, the noise of cars going by at night wasnt great.

Beds were comfy, friendly staff and easy location.

Not a dislike but for future guests…parking is at rear of the building…go down the pay display parking then at the end it’s a right for hotel parking and it’s free and managed to always have a spot, just difficult to find in the dark when arriving, however was guided when called the owners for direction.

Nothing muck really maybe just location

Unfortunately, there were several serious problems with the room and our stay. When we first entered the room, the mattress already had a noticeable yellow stain/mark on it. We stayed for six nights, but the bed linen and towels were not changed during our stay. There was also no daily room cleaning. This was not made clear to me when I booked the accommodation, and I would have expected this information to be clearly stated in the booking details. We also found insects in the room and noticed visible dirt, mould and grime around the windows and other areas. The carpet had visible stains and did not appear to have been properly cleaned. I spoke to a member of staff about the condition of the room and the insects. I was told that the room would be cleaned while I was at work. However, when I returned, the room had a very strong smell of bleach/cleaning chemicals. The smell was so strong that I struggled to sleep and suffered with a headache. There was also a significant noise problem. Even at around 11pm, the television from the neighbouring room was extremely loud, which made it very difficult to sleep. I tried to contact Booking.com to explain everything and ask for help. Unfortunately, I felt that my concerns were not properly listened to. I was told that I could cancel the booking, but that the money I had already paid for all six nights could not be refunded. I even looked for alternative accommodation because I was so unhappy with the room and was prepared to lose the money I had already paid. However, it was high season and other available hotels were considerably more expensive, so unfortunately I had very little choice but to remain at the property. I have photographs showing the condition of the room and the issues I experienced. Overall, I feel the accommodation did not meet a reasonable standard of cleanliness or comfort, and I was very disappointed with the response when I tried to get help.from booking

The location is exceptional. Close to all amenities, shops, bars, and buses. Hosts are always available when needed, whilst remaining in the background.

In my opinion Ferndale Lodge is perfect. Perfect for a short or long stay. Summer, Autumn or Winter.

The location was ideal for quick access to town and several good walks. Staff were friendly and welcoming. I was able to park for free at the property.

The single room (room 1) was very small and the sprung mattress was not terribly comfortable. While parking was available for free, my car was often blocked in by other guests during the week which meant I was reliant on buses if going out early in the day.

Perfect place to stay for a trip to the lakes. Room has everything you need and bed is comfortable. The host couldn’t be anymore accommodating. Close to everything you need in Ambleside with only a short walk to the boats to Windermere! Bus stop close by for trips to Keswick also. Overall would fully recommend!

It was very clean, excellent location and Rob the host was very friendly and helpful.

My room was small, which singles often are, but there was no other space, indoors or outdoors, where you could sit to eat or relax.

No breakfast. Very central to Ambleside centre. A very good town with food shops bus terminal and best links by bus to other locations in Lake District. I would rate Ambleside as a central place to stay.

Room small but good. I could not open the window so it was hot but found a way to open the window later.

Quite expensive, a very small room, noisy at night

Perfect location. Room was a good size and very comfortable. Parking available behind the house, although a bit tight! Beautiful view from my room across to Loughrigg (from back of the house) Tea and coffee provided along with a proper kettle.

No toiletries provided, which is great from a sustainability point of view - luckily I had brought my own with me. But it would be better to be warned of this. They might have been provided on request, but I didn't need to ask.

This is our 5th time staying in Ambleside for myself and my Wife and the 1st time staying at Ferndale Lodge. I must say it did not disappoint, and based on this years experience we shall be returning the next time we come to the Lakes. Ferndale Lodge is a little gem of a find. We usually stay on the other side of Ambleside and this year we thought we would try another area. Glad we did. Ferndale Lodge is very easy to find and to get to (from the Bus Station) for all walking abilities. Once we arrived we were greeted by Rob, a lovely friendly easy going gentleman. He explained all about the room and how to get in and out (Which key was which) where to access spare items if needed ect, nothing was too much trouble. We had room 7 on the top floor. Nicely sized for what we needed for the weekend, tastefully decorated and to a high standard, Plenty of towels and of course a power shower. All in all a lovely little place and very well worth a visit. Keep up the good work Rob.

Comfy bed and great location for both the town and Lake Windermere.

It would have been nice if there was a small complimentary bottle of shampoo provided but we had to go and buy our own.

Very convenient for the town centre with lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance

We were on third floor and there isn’t a lift so that was a bit challenging. Also private parking was two rows in front of each other meaning you. could get blocked in but to be fair when that happened to us Rob the owner got the car that was blocking us in to move very quickly.

The room was very nice and clean and even had a view of one of the fells. The host was very welcoming and easy to reach when I had a question. I felt very comfortable here. The location is also perfect, right at the edge of the town centre.

Rob was friendly and helpful, and I was given a bigger room than expected which was a nice surprise. Clean and comfortable and a super convenient location for Ambleside centre and the bus station.

Not much - some gel/soap in the shower would be nice. And you might need earplugs depending on how late neighbouring rooms decide to stay up!

Shower was very small. Not suited to a 17 stone weight lifter with broad shoulders.

Room was small in size but well appointed and well cleaned. Daily turn-down service was also good. Wi-fi signal was strong and speed good. Location-wise, it's very central and close to all amenities and restaurants.

Noise isolation is not great - even though the window was double-glazed, tho room was faving a bisu road and traffic noise was constant. Also partition walls were of plasterboard, and not well insulated, as I could hea my neighbours talking quite distinctly. Thankfully, I had ear plugs so I was able to sleep during the night. The bathroom was also quite tiny and getting into and out of the shower was challenging.

Die Dusche hätte sauberer sein können. Das Zimmer liegt zur Hauptstrasse und ist eher nicht ideal für Personen, die Ruhe wünschen. Das Zimmer ist eher hellhörig, d.h. Gespräche aus dem Nachbarzimmer hört man teilweise.

Location was excellent and staff were helpful. The dishes and cutlery provided were much appreciated. The nearby Altitude Cafe was excellent for breakfast.

This is the only place that we have ever stayed that did not provide soap and shampoo. A small fridge would have been appreciated.

We loved staying here with our Golden Retriever on our recent visit to Ambleside . We stayed 4 nights . My husband was in charge of accommodation and normally I prefer a separate , self catering cottage sort of arrangement ,as our dog can be a bit overwhelmed around too many new people and other dogs. But this suited us perfectly! It’s a separate little building behind the main lodge with its own entrance , and one of their dog friendly rooms . Beautiful view of the hills and very quiet and private . Includes a designated parking space ! ♥️ A brilliant plus in Ambleside! The bed is large and very comfy . Some may feel the room is a tad small , especially if you have a large breed dog like us , but He slept soundly , snoring his head off , so I don’t think he was bothered . 😅 Room was clean and ship shape . Very central , just a few minutes walk to all shops , restaurants and the busses . We didn’t try the breakfast as we had our dog with us , and didn’t inquire about options , but no shortage of excellent bakeries nearby to grab a quick pastry , which is all we need anyway . No toiletries were provided other than hand soap , which , again, was fine with us , as we never use those provided by hotels and prefer to bring our own . Really loved our stay here and would definitely stay again !

I booked a "dog friendly" room - and the room met all expectations ... I had great privacy - with all facilities met ... I will certainly recommend this hotel - and hope to visit again.

Located very near to restaurants and town. Lovely comfortable room, great shower and lovely towels. Rob helped with restaurant recommendations and very handy parking pass, lots of info to hand as well. No breakfast but not even 1 minute walk to superb Cafe Altitude (upstairs at climbing wall)
