The staff team where brill and always happy to help! The location is bang in the centre of town.

Only downside was parking. Ambleside is clearly a tourist town and sadly the Temperance Inn doesn't have a carpark. So first hour or so of our wee break was walking around looking for best places to park.

Old pub in the heart of Ambleside, great atmosphere and the staff were brilliant.Great inclusive breakfast.

It was noisy. Guests coming and going. Making lots of noise. Be prepared to climb the stairs with your luggage. Beer prices were higher than other pubs and there's plenty to choose from. No parking and the nearest paid car park is small.

Valerie went out of her way to make us feel welcome. She has a kind and caring nature.

The inn is absolutely cozy, beautifully decorated and the staff beyond friendly and attentive. The breakfast was lovely and quickly served.

Had to ask for oat milk to be available and plant based butter wasn't always available. Huge trucks outside doing deliveries often. A fridge would be a good addition.

Our room was at the front of the property which was on a main road and very noisy, if we’d have known we’d have booked a back room

I thought it was old style but it is just old and needs a refurbishment.

Extremely dirty, room small, it was stinky, overpriced and breakfast was so bad. Just literally everything was bad.

Location was great, bar area was lovely & staff very friendly.

Lots of stairs up to room, no a/c during the Summer heat spell.

This quaint and comfortable hotel is located at the end of the busy business area of Ambleside, and I loved that the location was a bit more quiet than being in the center of the shopping district. We stayed here two nights; once at the beginning of our trip, and again at the end. It was convenient for us because we could wash our clothes at the laundromat right around the corner from the hotel. Our rooms were quiet comfortable and the food at the pub downstairs was a surprisingly mixture of pub and asian cuisine. (I particularly enjoyed the sticky asian chicken bites!) But what I enjoyed most about the place was the staff. The staff at The Temperance Inn was beyond excellent. We had a few extra needs, and the two young women who helped us were so very kind and patient and caring towards us. They made us feel as if we were staying at their home. Really really lovely people.

Hats off to the staff. They were great! Very friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Good entertainment in the bar too and a good atmosphere. Room was very clean and well equipped. Great location.

Room 27 - pillows were awful!! I had a really poor night's sleep. They were too firm and too high. Cooked breakfast was very good, but it seemed to be understaffed. Coffee ran out. Continental selection was low. We could have done with some help with the toaster but the 2 staff were very busy taking orders and serving food.

It is situated in the centre of the town, making exploration easy. The staff were friendly and accommodating and I appreciated the earlier check-in.

The hotel staff were really very nice, welcoming and helpful! The warm breakfast was fantastic! Our room was okay, decently spaced with all required furniture. The location was quite convenient too: very close to the bus depot and surrounded by nice places to shop and eat.

As it was extremely warm inside (and somewhat outside as well :)), we wanted to open the window but could not open it (was stuck), however the hotel staff did offer to call someone to open the window which I didn't do at the end. The bathroom was "mostly" clean with the exception of the shower stall which still had mold remains between the tile joints which were coming off during shower.

Location was excellent. Staff are very helpful.

No parking. Perhaps arrange parking for residents at nearby car parks on foc basis or at least discounted.

Great location in town, close to the bus stop and stores. The pub downstairs has tasty food with an outdoor seating area. Best thing about the place is the staff. They are so warm and friendly and very helpful and kind.

Added charge for dogs which is understandable, but no dog bowl or bed/blanket provided which was disappointing. Temperature of the room was absolutely unbearable, window would only open slightly so no air could circulate, no fan provided either. It wasn’t even a particularly hot night but the rooms seem to hold a lot of heat. Extremely uncomfortable nights sleep :(

The staff was incredibly friendly and delivered the service of a 5star hotel.

The staff were very helpful . We would highly recommend it. I booked for my Dad and his girlfriend for his birthday. They said the room was very comfortable they even had a fan which was amazing as they stayed during the heatwave. They were both very impressed with the breakfast too .

The Temperance Inn was immaculately clean and welcoming. The staff were profession, friendly and extremely helpful. The room was super with all the facilities advertised and the addition of a fan which was very much appreciated. The food was always fresh and perfectly cooked and presented. The beer garden was maintained and kept immaculately clean and was a super asset in the high temperatures this week.

Air conditioning would be a bonus and a lift but the staff were always on hand to help anyone that needed assistance with bags and cases.

Rooms very nice, lovely place to stay and local to all bus stops for sightseeing

It was very warm due to the heat, it might have helped if there was fans put in the room.

We have stayed multiple times we travel on motorbikes and we are allowed to park them around the back which is a key factor but also the staff rooms food and beer are all good.

No complaints I got stung in the beer garden maybe a few of those wasp / insect traps would be good..

Great location & very good food!

The staff were friendly and helpful. My bed was comfortable and the decor in my room was immaculate. The shower was lovely and the full veggie breakfast delicious.

It would be good if the tables at breakfast were reserved for guests as I was staying alone and lost ‘my’ table when I left to get a cup of tea. A small thing but the stairs to the rooms smelt a little stale.

Only scored down because the curtains in the room didnt fill the window therefore some light could come through. Also stayed to watch the England football game and the sound system didnt work so had to watch game with no sound. Also not offered a parking permit which is on offer for local carparks when we’ve stayed at many of the other accommodation options in Ambleside

Central location, 15 minutes from Ambleside pier and right at the centre of Ambleside. Plenty of car park nearby. Decent pub and restaurant in the ground floor. All staff are very helpful and really nice! Kudos!

Location of this hotel is fantastic, just at the bottom of the town centre. It doesn't have it's own car park, but there is a smaller car park 2 mins walk from the hotel, and a much larger one a few hundred meters away. You can buy a three-day parking pass for a very reasonable rate. The food at breakfast and in the evenings was really very good, and the staff we really great.

The room was a little on the small side, but we did suffer more than most as we had luggage for a 12-day visit. Aside from this the room has everything we needed and the bathroom was really bright and clean. The walk-in-shower was really good.

It is a great location, I had a really comfortable stay, nice food. Room quite basic but clean, dinner was lovely and I enjoyed the choice at breakfast. Would stay again

Staff were very helpful, especially with our bikes and arranged accommodation in the cottage at the back of the property which made coming and going easier for us. Part of a cycling tour and would happily use again. Very handy for walking into town.

Evening menu a bit limited although the quality was good. Cooked breakfast nicely done, without being greasy.

We didn't get to stay here. Our stay was cancelled due to power cut we was just given our luggage as we had left it earlier and was told sorry you will have to find elsewhere

Great location with friendly staff. Rooms were tastefully decorated and very clean. Had a great nights sleep followed by a delicious (very filling) fully breakfast..well worth the reasonable price.

We felt fully welcomed at the Temperance Inn, and it is perfectly located in Ambleside as the base for walks. The breakfast in the morning was delicious, and even the biscuits kept in the room were better than other hotels we've stayed in.

I had a lovely room on the top floor that was nice and quiet and well appointed. Bathroom was spacious.

Didn’t love the fact that I had to tromp up several flights of stairs to my room - but the flip side of that was the quiet. The inn is on top of a pub so rooms on lower floors may be more noisy.

Evening meal was excellent - lovely menu and fantastic food! Staff very helpful and even put a fan in our room ready for our arrival on a scorching day. Room clean, tea and biscuits provided.

Bathroom smelt a bit damp, tiles weren’t all clean and shower didn’t drain well. Bunk beds creaked a lot but comfortable mattresses.

I'm so glad we chose the Temperance Inn for our stay in Ambleside. The rooms are on the floors above the restaurant/bar, we only ate breakfast there but is was popular at all times of day. It has a nice modern but cosy feel to it, everything seemed pretty new. The room was beautiful, ours was on the top floor, where other guests were staying too, and you couldn't hear any noises from the street or the other rooms. The bathroom was spotless and very new fittings. Breakfast was great, there was fresh fruit, cereal, toast too I think (we didn't have any), unlimited tea and filter coffee, and then an item from the hot breakfast menu was included. We had the full English breakfasts - really lovely, and good for setting you up for a day in the hills. The staff we met were all very friendly and helpful, and chatted away to each other too, there was a nice atmosphere about the place like they enjoyed being there too. It was very reasonably priced considering how nice the breakfast was and how high quality the rooms etc were. It's right in the centre of Ambleside, so also handy on rainy days for a potter around the shops, and not far from the bus stop. We only stayed one night but really enjoyed our stay there and will definitely stay there again when we're back in Ambleside.

Beer garden and live music & friendly welcoming staff

We were on the top floor which was 8 short flights of stairs. Would have preferred a lower floor but booked last minute.

Stayed two nights in a single room while in the Lakes to hike for a weekend and it had everything I needed for that short time. Comfortable rooms, thought a bit stuffy given the window in my room did not open more than few inches.

Everything was superb but the staff went above and beyond with everything. Super helpful. Location is excellent and we parked in Lake Road Car Park. Cannot recommend highly enough.

The staff are really lovely. Every member was really welcoming and helpful throughout. The hotel has been through an excellent refurbishment. Very fine, traditional bar area and redecoration everywhere. Great breakfast options and service. Real ale options at the bar. Parking very close by. Great communication from the hotel and they were able to honour our request for twin beds.

The food menu is a bit funky for our taste! Modern, to be fair, but not vey interesting. The bedroom was practical, comfy beds, great shower, but the " brown" furniture was a bit old fashioned and gloomy compared with the excellent furniture and fittngs elsewhere. A very minot point which didn't spoil our stay - a note maybe for the next refurb!
