Beautiful garden, really nice host. Easy to get in contact!
Amazing place with mount kinabalu view
View, all the heater
Not enough cooking utensils
Beautiful location among the gardens with great views.
The gardens were beautiful and enjoyed the stream nearby. Having a table outdoors to enjoy the cool air and scenery was lovely. Mr. Lee, the caretaker was friendly, helpful and responsive to our queries. The room was clean and ready for check-in at the indicated time.
The room could be equipped with more amenities such as a fridge and air conditioning. However, the main concern we had was the insufficient water supply that ran out once the kids had a shower and there was no hot water supply once the water level is low. The bathroom had a bathtub but it was unusable due to the water supply issue. The accommodation was pricey for the basic offering.
The garden.. there's a beautiful river stream nearby
Mr Lee, the place caretaker is awesome , friendly and helpful. The garden is well kept and if you really want to shut off, this is the place to go because it’s very quiet (peaceful but there’s a catch to this).
For the asking price , I was expecting decent facilities and was absolutely shocked there was not even a TV. I thought there would be a TV as a bare minimum (with YouTube access) to keep guest entertained because there’s absolutely nothing to do here at night, other than taking a bath and sleep. Wifi is atrociously slow, might as well use your mobile to be a hotspot. The bathroom is alright but the hot water system can be a bit of a challenge(hassle) as it can become cold after filling up the bathtub to around 40%.
The garden! And the privacy of the property.
Water heater.
This feels like a small family-run place, and the uncle who handled our stay was kind and welcoming. The bed was clean and we appreciated the quiet surroundings.
The water from the taps was yellow (perhaps because of the natural minerals, but still quite uncomfortable to use). Overall, it felt very basic and did not match the premium price point. For what we paid, we could easily stay in a 5 star hotel in KL for less.
The beautiful surroundings flowers everywhere. Wake up in the morning open the door with amazing view of mount kinabalu just take my breath away
So many flies its literarily everywhere in the room not to mention toilet. I think the management should spray or mop the floor with serai wangi
Room is clean
No tv, no fridge, no WiFi proper. A bit pricey
Best place to relax! Sleep with sound of river, wake up with bird's chirp. Perfect garden and mount KK just in front of you when you open the door. You can reach amazing river only 5 min walk from room. No aircon in the room. Sleep with natural cool air!
Love the beautiful view and ambiance. Very peaceful and had a clear view of Mount Kinabalu in the morning. We were lucky as we went in Nov where usually the mountain is covered by clouds
toilet bind only able to go down 3/4.
If breakfast can have it in the room is better.
enviroment
Was lousy..there is no vegetarian food available.
More choice for vegetarian and the way that they prepare food.
exterior wall painting, outdoor chairs, benches has signs of decays under extreme weather, these requires refresh and replacement.
Super Lage Toller Garten Mister Lee und seine Crew waren sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Sehr unkompliziertes Handling mit Checkin/Checkout
Anfahrt über unbefestigte und ausgespühlte Strasse
The view was awesome. You can literally the sound of birds chirping and rivers flowing. The garden is very well maintained. Kudos to Mr Lee and the staff are makes us feel at home.
It is good to have microwave oven in the room
Lovely view and surrounding area. Facilities were good and the room was clean. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Overall a great stay, the nearby restaurant was good value and nice food.
The taxi struggled abit finding the location and the breakfast was OK, but could have been better.
Beautiful environment. Picture perfect view of Mt. Kinabalu.
A bit dated. Needs maintenance. Was here 5 years ago and it was stunning. 5 years later, the external facade needed a coat of paint, the roofing needed work, and the patio needed some work. And a tv would have been great.
We had a wonderful stay at Spring Garden, Kota Kinabalu. 🌿✨ It’s a cozy little house surrounded by a beautiful garden right at the foothills of the amazing Mount Kinabalu. The atmosphere was peaceful, fresh, and very cooling at night — perfect for a restful sleep. The accommodation was very comfortable: • A spacious and comfy queen-sized double bed • A large bathtub with a fully functional water heater • A clean and well-kept bathroom We were especially touched by the thoughtful gestures a small birthday decoration prepared for my son, along with a ‘small’ bouquet of flowers and fresh avocados waiting at our doorstep. 🥑💐 Such warm hospitality made our stay extra special. Another highlight was the chance to do a short hike to enjoy the waterfall from Mount Kinabalu, which made the experience even more memorable. This place is truly suitable for a small family looking for comfort, nature, and a unique stay experience. Highly recommended! 🌸🏡
Our stay at Spring Garden, Kota Kinabalu was a unique experience, but there are some important points to consider before booking. There are no TVs and no air-conditioning in the rooms. While the nights are naturally very cold, some guests might still find the lack of facilities inconvenient. The price is also higher compared to other hotels in the area. Breakfast is not provided on-site. Guests need to go to Benjamin Café outside Spring Garden, which closes at 8pm,a bit inconvenient if you want a later dinner. The biggest challenge for us was the access road. It’s uneven, very dark at night, and quite difficult to find. We arrived at 10pm and actually got lost on the way. Thankfully, Mr. Lee, the caretaker, kindly guided us over the phone until we reached the place safely. For this reason, I would recommend arriving during daylight to enjoy the scenery and avoid getting lost. Although the garden entrance is free and the environment is peaceful, overall the value for money feels less compared to other nearby accommodations.
The stay was good. The staff were too friendly and helpful. The location was great. The scenery is mindblowing. It was a getaway from all the stress that city life could give, hahaha.
They didn't have tv . This wasn't really an issue, though. If you like nature, then this is the place for you. Kota kinabalu was just at your doorstep. Another thing I would like to highlight is to check on the amenities in the room. Some of the coffee glasses are kind of dirty, but if checked properly, it is fine. It was fine for us because we never used the glasses as we had our coffee in the restaurant nearby, but for those who does please ensure that is clean. That is all, but all other things are cleaned and well taken care of. The manager over there is always catering to the guest. So I will give a thumbs up to this place.
Excellent view and garden, private river view.
None, just they offer ticket entry fot visitor. However, this may reduce the privacy of the guest as anyone can enter
Loved the serene surroundings, room was simply furnished, but met our needs. Overall clean room. Beautiful views when you just step out of the room.
Not a complaint - but would be nice to have a TV in the room!
Nice garden. Excellent service.
None
The garden and views were fantastic . The little river at the back was a real treat. Mr Lee, the caretaker, helped us carry our luggage from the car to the unit n back. He had photos with information which he conveniently shared with us via WhatsApp.
1. The road into the unit was unpaved and not so easy to drive. 2. The path from the carpark to the unit would have been better if there were lined with gravel. We arrived after the gardener cut the grass and everywhere we walked, we brought the grass around. 3. While the unit was pleasant and a good option to be away from all electronics, I would appreciate giving us the option of have cable TV. 4. WiFi was a bit wonky esp at night. 5. The price per night is a bit steep.
The room is big with good view, but you need to be cautious and handle the blinds a lot as people outside can see you. The view is really great, you can see mount kinabalu from just outside your room's door. The flowers are pretty too. The view is 5 stars! The river nearby is wonderful, feels like a private river. The water is ice cold from the mountain. Mr Lee is nice and helpful. The gardener and cleaner are also friendly.
The road from H.Benjamin to Spring Garden is bad, too rocky and uneven. It made us think twice to go out of the place. The water heater takes time to reheat, owner needs to change to a bigger capacity of heater tank. Wifi keeps disconnecting. No tv..kids are bored. Ada banyak sawang labah2 di toilet..toilet bowl hijau berlumut! For more than rm1k per night, the room does not worth the price. Maybe they need to reduce the rate to make it worth the experience.
The place is super clean and peaceful place with a beautiful view. The hospitality is very good. The host helped us with our luggages despite us arriving at 11pm. Overall so beautiful. Definitely will come again. Place is so awesome!!!
Althought its clean theres still some spider webs but its okay. The heater wasnt working at times, but its okay its not everyday we feel the cool weather lol. LOVE IT 10/10
Beautiful view, amazing room and amazing host Mr. Lee
The road going down to Spring Garden Villa and the road going up for breakfast to Benjamin.
I like the surroundings of the hotel, which is surrounded by flowers and is in accordance to the name 'Garden'. Not only that, you can find a small river which allows you to feel very close to the nature.
I don't really like the infrastructure going there, the road was awful and so bad. Aside from that, the lack of other amenities in the complex is also another downside if you are looking for some other facilities. But that's not a dealbreaker for me :)
An excellent location to unwind. The surroundings is just spectacular with well maintained beautiful varieties of flowers and garden landscape. With views of Mt Kinabalu can be seen clearly from 6 am to 8 am / 4 pm - 5 pm. There is a small waterfall/river at the back of Spring Garden. Easy 10 mins walk. But pls be careful when you walk towards the grass near the river as the ground is soft. My husband didn’t realize it & had a slipped & was all muddied on jacket & short pants. Although the room rates is high but the view, the quietness, chirping of birds and the beautiful surrounding garden made it worthwhile. If you are looking for nearby breakfast, lunch or dinner, you can visit Tranquera House, serving delicious & reasonable priced Nyonya cuisine, which is only 3 mins drive from Spring Garden. However, you need to call at least 3 - 4 hrs in advance to place orders. Thanks to Mr Lee, the Property Manager for his responsiveness and good customer service.
The distance to walk for the free breakfast @ HJ Benjamin Residence is approx 1 km. Suggest to rent a car for ease of traveling.
The place was comfortable and clean, with a great view of the mountain. Garden is well maintained, as well as the short trail towards a beautiful river at the back of the garden. Amenities are sufficient, the toilet has heated floor and heated rail for drying clothes. Breakfast is just a few minutes drive away. This place is perfect for switching off to relax, recharge, and offers good privacy. Mr Lee was exceptionally helpful, and goes the extra mile. Thank you, we will be back again.
We don’t have an issue with this, but just be aware that the road from breakfast place to the hotel is very rocky and has no street lights.
The scenery was fantastic. Staffs (the gardeners) are very kind and friendly.
The room is quite empty for the price. Doesn’t have tv, doesn’t have wifi, no fridge, no microwave, no mini kitchen. Maybe it’s just me, i’ve always prefer a suite instead.
Really nice place with a lot of beautiful flowers.
Very muddy and wet due to constant rain. Come during sunny season. The owner should build better walk way in case the path gets muddy. Nothing much to do apart from enjoying the view. The breakfast is meh as is a set menu of simple breakfast. The room is generally clean but the wardrobe smells old, need to be removed. The shower water hole needs to be cleaned, we found a worm crawling. The location is quite far from kundasang city, around 20-30 mins drive depending on the restaurants you want to go.
We like the quietness and serenity of the location as well as the very beautifully manicured garden which was quite extensive. The cabin/room we booked was cleaned, spacious for 4 adults, and the toiletries provided were sufficient except for toilet paper and tissue paper which were not enough for 4 pax in a room.
The location is only accessible by car and the breakfast place was about a kilometre away. But the manager of the property was very kind to drive us to and fro each day to the breakfast place. It would have been quite difficult to walk there without that service provided. The breakfast place however could improve on their service level. I think one more chair in the room would also be appreciated.
Beautiful views, privacy, space and well maintained area! Lovely staff and it felt like being on another side of the world
The property would be even greater with entertainment devices - if not bring your own. Most come to disconnect entirely if not which is great too
The location and Place is nice.
The property is very very very old. Look never main well. Only few room and never occupied.
It was an 'adventurous' journey to the garden. It was a breathtaking new 'ambience' one can experience upon arriving at Spring Garden. Its location is private, secluded and spacious full with greenery and flowers. Very pleasant scene and I can spent hours/days sitting on the gardens and admiring the scene. The cabin has an excellent architecture. I like it the way it is. The furnishing is simple yet very cosy and comfortable. The sun rises as early as 4.30am - 5.00 am and you will get to see the gorgeous Mount Kinabalu !! I have never been to a place like this and the whole family love it very much.
The internet is slow and tv was not provided in the smaller cabin ( I know it is intentional, i.e for guests to stay outdoor rather than indoor). Thus, those coming with family i.e kids, may want to bring their own laptop with data plan etc etc. At night it can get very cold 17dc-15dc, it is advisable to wear socks as the floor heater is not working to our expectation.
Spacious and peaceful. Backdrop was very beautiful. Waterfall at the back of the property was worth the walk. Well kept grounds with beautiful hydrangeas. Easy to communicate with host and grounds keepers were all lovely and helpful even though English was not their first language.
Nothing
It's very serene, private, warm and cozy (given the fact that it's situated in a high cold place). Although breakfast is about 5mins drive away, there were plenty of other brunch spots nearby the cabin (relatively 10-20mins away). Water bottles and amenities like soap and shampoo etc were generously given. Room was wide enough for 4 pax, doesn't feel squeezy. Host was very kind to help carry my heavy luggage to the cabin. The view of Mt Kinabalu is as promised in the photos! Very nice place to catch a clear view of the mountain in the early mornings.
Would have been better if there were a TV in the room.
weather
lots n lots of insect , no restaurant . super far from everything
The view is superb. You wake up to Mount K evryday. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the surrounding environment is all very beautiful and private. Special thanks to Mr Lee - very responsive.
The gravel road leading to the property - uneven and rocky. Can be difficult for passenger vehicle. The road is also not lit - very dark at night.
The room View was so good
Hope they have TV at Room
Beautiful surroundings with garden
Everything is good
We love the garden full of flowers, the stream & of course the view of Mount Kinabalu right outside our door.
Nil
Nice location and view Good for rest and nice air
Just no WiFi provider And no signal on mobile
The garden view is really perfect and feel comfortable, as well the room.
In the range of the price upon staying, they should provide at least a mini microwave and mini fridge inside the room.
Mr.Lee is very responsive and helpful! Went above and beyond when possible. Even provided softer pillows on request. Beds were comfortable, room was clean and setting was idyllic. Would recommend to anyone wanting a stay that is away from the crowds. View of Mt.Kinabalu every morning was spectacular.
Would have been nice to have a sofa in the room, for additional seating. More hooks/rack for hanging jackets and clothes would be good. The drive down to lodgings is a dirt road, steep in places. We managed with our regular car but be aware in heavy rain it could be tricky going up and down without a 4WD.
Beautiful place in a great location. We liked the chalet as well as the garden and really enjoyed the walk up to have breakfast in the nearby hotel.
nothing
Amazing place, quiet, clean with full comfort. The garden is beautiful. The staff is efficient and friendly.
Breakfast wasn’t good. You have to take your car to get there.
Spectacular view of the mountain and the view. Beautiful garden Clean rooms and full of amenity
No TV and the accessibility to the resort, breakfast is served outside
Beautiful garden location with close views of the mountain (if the weather is on your side).
Quite over-priced for what you get. This was by far the most expensive place we stayed in Sabah, but things didn't work (wifi was very weak and dropped out constantly, heated towel rail didn't work so towels didn't dry, heated bathroom floor didn't seem to work). The staff were helpful and tried to fix things, but weren't always successful and at this price it was disappointing. We were quite cold the first night but there was no heating.
Beautiful Scenery and so peaceful
Property was fine, only the road going to place needs to be improve for non 4wheels vehicle.
Location, amenities, comfortibility, beautiful landscape
There’s no in house cafe and wish there’s a stairs going down the river from our chalet.
Beautiful property. Friendly staff.
Location was secluded and beautiful. The garden landscape was well tendered.
It was quite cold at night. There was only 1 pillow per guest.
The view! Mr Lee and staff were also very welcoming and helpful. Thank you for such a lovely stay.
Good view and very good hospitality.
The vast garden outside our room is really enchanting, it is so surreal that rendered us speechless. The room is very clean and Mr Lee was very helpful. The garderners were friendly too. The view of Mt Kinabalu with the garden as a setting really took our breath away.
Nil.
Nice ambiance. Be warned it's away from civilisation. No TV wifi is bad. We enjoyed the detox but if you can't stay without your phone not the place for you
I wish there were room service options and more food selection for breakfast
The surroundings of our lodge was too beautiful and overlooked Mt Kinabalu even tho it seemed quite a distance from it. The beautiful well-tended garden served as a good foreground for photos taken w Mt K in the backdrop. Room was clean, warmed with good flooring and even the toilet seat had heating. The bathtub was a great addition and my kids loved it so much. The room was spacious, clean and nice with tall ceilings. Breakfast was provided in another lodge just along the way out from Spring Garden. The host was so kind to wait for us till nightfall as our rental car had some issues and caused delays. It is a pity we ran out of time to explore the river which we heard we could go down to. We will come back here if we had the choice!
It was a pity the rack for drying clothes wasn’t working (host said it would be fixed soon by electrician). Otherwise, nothing to dislike! Even the walk from the parking area wasn’t a dread as the garden was so pretty to walk in and out of daily.
Comfortable and nice natural environment with blossom flowers
A bit cold in the night but still acceptable
Serene and peaceful
Towel heater not working
Everything. They even have a river at the back. Perfect view of Mount Kinabalu in the morning!
I wish the blanket is thicker because at night it was sooo cold. Also, wish they have ceiling fan because in the afternoon and evening it was kind of hot
The hospitality from the owner is top class. Very accommodative and respectful of privacy
The road to the accommodation is a challenge
The chalets were secluded away in a small garden area overlooking mount Kinabalu. It was actually a pleasant surprise when we woke up one morning and the clouds clear up to show the Mountain top. Place is very peaceful and quiet and very memorable for our short but sweet honeymoon
Kindly beware of the crusher run when you go downhill towards the chalet area. Try not to drive too fast and crusher runs are known to puncture your car tyres unknowingly
Beautiful place with amazingly beautiful flowers. The room was Very clean with awesome floor & towel heaters The staff was so helpful & friendly. If the weather is good, you will wake up to the beautiful view of the majestic Mount Kinabalu.
The road leading to this place is rocky. There is a risk of damaging the car wheels.
