Mumfords

Please be aware that there are no washing facilities (washing machine or drying rack) provided at this property. This was one of the main reasons we booked this property so I would not recommend booking if this is a requirement for you as it was for us. It is advertised on booking.com as having these facilities. Nicky said she would do my washing for me but I was not comfortable with this. The checkout time was not as advertised. Mumfords say 10.30am but booking.com advertises 11am so be aware of this if a late check out is important for you. The place needed a good dust but it was a pleasant stay in a beautiful location.

We enjoyed such a relaxing and peaceful stay taking in the stunning views! The hosts Nicky & Fran were so kind, friendly and attentive leaving us special treats to enjoy. Would highly recommend and would love to return .

Nicky & Fran are delightful hosts who go above and beyond to ensure a comfortable, private and enjoyable stay at Mumfords. The cabin itself is something I couldn’t even dream up. Gorgeous ethereal views over the cove, enjoyed from multiple private viewing points we explored during our stay. We enjoyed our time immensely, a stay made even more exceptional by all the thoughtful delights and recommendations added by our lovely hosts. We can’t wait to come back and will be recommending Mumfords to all travelling to NZ.

An exceptional place and truly wonderful hosts. I absolutely loved my stay! The accommodation was spotless, comfortable, and even better than the photos. The hosts were incredibly kind, welcoming, and always happy to help with local tips and recommendations. We felt at home from the moment we arrived. A memorable experience — I would come back without hesitation!

The view from the accommodation is spectacular. There was also an impressive library of reading material.

We would have liked to be able to lock the chalet when we went out for the day.

Mumfords is everything you can hope for and more. Beautiful property, with everything you could possibly want. wonderful views and gardens, in a quiet peaceful location. Our hosts Nicky and Fran were generous with their time, recommendations and so many homemade treats. They made us feel special. Nothing was too much trouble. Definitely our best stay in NZ.

Outdoor baths beneath open skies, Decking views that truly mesmerise. Dolphins dancing in the harbour below, Cruise ships gliding, jet skis in flow. We wandered your land, to the water’s edge, Pāua shells gathered, memories pledged. Thank you for sharing this special retreat, And for making our stay so wonderfully complete. There is not one thing to dislike about this place!

We absolutely loved everything about this place! The detail, the breathtaking view and location, the warm wooden interior with beautiful vintage accessories and decor making it feel quaint and homey, like the sinks and barn doors! The layout was perfect, having a view from the bed with a TV that turned towards the bed or the kitchen was such a cool bonus too and everything was spotless. The hosts were so welcoming and lovely and were out of sight but always available if we needed them, the information package we got was very detailed too. They have made a real effort with this place. Everything was thought of with amazing detail and anything we needed we always found, it was the perfect cabin getaway, would 100% recommend!

The view was stellar...worth atleast a 30pt drop in blood pressure. Extra personal touches with freshly made chocolates, duck eggs, fresh cream and freshly made jelly from their garden. Kind and attentive hosts. Sought to help us enjoy local insider highlights. Lovely garden with beautiful flowers and walking paths. The serenading by the birds was so lovely.

We had a 10/10 stay at Mumfords. The care and attention to detail was perfect. Nicky and Fran were very friendly and generous in leaving us a few treats from the garden and home made ice cream. From the deck you get the most amazing view and peace sound of the birds. The outdoor bath was lovely and the walk down to the beach below is beautiful. Nicky and Fran were great welcoming hosts. This place is truly a gem and we wish that we had more time to spend at their beautifully unique place. The trail down to their own private beach was a pleasant surprise. The duck eggs and homemade treats were delicious. You can feel the love and care that they put into this home. The view from their couch and porch overlooking the water is spectacular. I could sit there all day.

We loved the view from the terrace and through the windows to your garden and the sea. It's a truly beautiful place you have. Around the house are lovely flowers, trees, bushes, tui, bumblebee, wood pigeons etc. We have enjoyed staying here for 4 days over Christmas - our last days of 5 fantastic weeks on the South Island. Thank you for spoiling us with duck eggs, Frans chocolate, walnuts, apple jelly, turkey slices with cranberries, Christmas cake etc. - and the nice bookmark to take home to Denmark. We enjoyed the treats. Thank you for your smiles, hospitality and informations.

We enjoyed our stay at Mumfords. It is charming, has excellent views and lovely grounds with a walkway down to the water. In addition it is properly equipped with everything we needed. We also liked Nicky and Fran a great deal. They live on the property in a separate structure that in no way intrudes on Mumfords. They brought us homemade chocolates and jam. They left in the room fresh duck eggs and walnuts. Nicky was also helpful in advising us where to go and things to do in Akaroa and on the Banks Peninsula. And upon leaving, Fran gave us a bookmark that she had made. My wife adored the huge flowered gardens.

Beautiful location with lovely views of the water

Super cute stay, felt like walking into a storybook. The view, the cottage, the surrounding garden, the outdoor bath - so gorgeous. Bed - must be a king size - very comfy.

Could not find cooking oil on the first night (however perhaps I just didn't find it and didn't ask!) and a bit more milk would help. The AC unit/heatpump is controlled by the host and took a while to figure out but once we got that sorted was all good.

Amazing views and garden to explore.

Location was perfect - only a short drive from Akaroa township but so secluded and peaceful. There is no noise but birdsong, trees moving and the ocean. From the house & deck you cannot see or hear anyone, so relaxing. Found the entrance easy to spot from the road. Property itself had everything required and was clean and comfortable. Hosts were lovely! The pictures are accurate but don't do it justice.

Our stay was absolutely amazing! We felt at home from the very first moment and couldn’t have asked for a better way to end our honeymoon. The place is peaceful, surrounded by stunning views, private beach, and offers complete privacy. The house is cozy and well equipped — the bed is super comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need, and all the facilities are excellent. Highly recommended! ❤️

Ein traumhafter Ort in Mitten des Waldes mit Ruhe und Frieden! Anders kann man Mumfords gar nicht beschreiben. Die Gastgeber waren zuvorkommend, hilfsbereit und sehr engagiert. Mitten auf einem Hügel im Wald steht das Ferienhaus, welches Ruhe und Natur bietet. Eine Aussenbadewanne und ein Holzofen sorgen für ein total entspanntes Urlaubsgefühl. Das Bett war super kuschelig. Wir kommen sicher wieder! Danke für diese schöne Erfahrung.

Mumfords was in a peaceful environment surrounded by mountains overlooking the water. The sunsets and sunrises were spectacular as were the birds singing in the trees. A telescope in the house allowed us to see the birds up close. It had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Nicky and Fran met us on arrival (communication prior to and during our stay was excellent) and the extras of home made chocolates, jam and tomato sauce added to our feeling very welcomed by Nicky and Fran. The Woodfire was also perfect! Our biggest regret was not being able to stay longer.

Everything was PERFECT!

We absolutely loved our stay at Mumfords. This picturesque spot has only gotten better since our last visit! All our favorite parts remained; waking up to that stunning view and bird song, making the most of the cosy fire and all the small details that make the place a joy - including Nicky and Fran as such great hosts - even better is the gorgeous outdoor tub perfect for matariki star gazing. Many thanks again for a magical stay!

Nicky & Fran were fantastic hosts. They are in the property next door but they kept to themselves and where always available if needed. (which we didn't need). The home made chocolates, ice creams & farewell gift were very thoughtful and made the stay very homely. Location was a short drive from town. The privacy and seclusion was exactly what we were after. And the VIEW! It is truely magical. The bath on the deck at night was spectacular. We look forward to returning to this fantastic location.

We loved everything about this place! The hosts are great 👍. Very attentive and responsive. You name it, they'll help. Easy drive to the town center. Akaroa is very walkable.

Most beautiful views of harbour. Very private with lovely gardens to explore. Comfortable bed and perfect accommodation. Hosts extremely kind and helpful. Perfect place to stop and relax after days of driving. Akaroa and Mumfords truly a slice of paradise.

Mumfords was simply perfect. Nicky and Fran put real effort into making your stay additionally special. The views,the birdsong,the gardens were beautiful. The stay was made very memorable by the warmth of the welcome...and the addition of glorious weather.

Absolutely nothing

Private, lovingly maintained guest cottage a short distance from owner’s home. Idyllic flower filled gardens set above private walk to the bay. Cottage stocked with all amenities and owners made us feel most welcome with home made treats. Large outdoor soaking tub very relaxing to gaze over the bay or star watching. A short drive to quaint town with delicious French bakery and many cafes. Owner has lived here for 40 years and shared points of interest for sightseeing. Quite possibly our best rental ever.

Fantastic wooden comfortable cabin set in a garden overlooking Akaroa Harbour. Love a kitchen that has cookbooks, espeically Eilizabeth David books.

So many things to mention. Nicky and Fran could not have been more welcoming or gracious hosts, spoiling us with unexpected home made treats each day. The space itself is beautiful; roomy but comfortable with the most amazing views. The garden is the icing on the cake; obviously a labour of love and it shows. There is total privacy especially when using the huge out door copper bath, a truly magical experience, like living on your own estate. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home.

Absolutely stunning views. So nice to watch the sun set over the bay from the balcony. Good facilities for cooking and coffee. Comfy, clean and beautiful. Lots of great books. There was nothing I didn’t like.

The property is located just a little further from Akaroa and is a very beautifully landscaped place. We enjoyed our visit very much and walked the property with all the flowers and nice views. The hosts Nicky and Fram treated us so well and surprised us with several delicious treats at our arrival. We also enjoyed the great advice for food and things to do in the area. We would stay there again for sure.

We like everything!! It was a perfect place to recover energy!! My only advice is to the owners to add a few extra photos of the bath.

The view at Mumford's is exceptionally awesome and stunning! Idyllic, peaceful, tranquil surroundings set in lovely gardens with native bird song (we had two beautiful wood pigeons join us for breakfast perched right next to us). It's a special place. We were lucky to have spent time there. We loved the personal touches such as Nicky's jam and daily delivery of the newspaper and Fran's chocolate cake. The bath on the deck is a real treat with it's forest and sea vistas. Definitely a place to come back too.
