Ruwan Jungle Homestay

Ruwan est un hôte très compétent et surtout très agréable. Il est aux petits soins avec ses clients. Le gîte est situé dans la jungle et le décor est magnifique. Je recommande vivement cet endroit pour y séjourner et passer un bon moment.

Amazing host, very kind and very friendly

I really loved my stay at Ruwan's! Extremely comfortable bed and everything I needed was provided, including a fridge full of cold water! It was a peaceful escape in the jungle, and Ruwan was very friendly and helpful, collecting me in his TukTuk from my hostel and then providing a lift onwards when I left.

This isn't something that I didn't like, but something to be aware of. The property is a little further away from the main town and beach of Mirissa. Personally, I thought it was really nice to escape and be a bit more separate, but you will probably use tuktuks (very affordable) or have a little walk into town. There are some restaurants and a smaller beach nearby though.

Spacious, clean rooms equipped with comfy beds, ACs and a modern bathroom. Breakfast was served on our porch every morning and was simple but delicious. The porch had some lovely hammocks to relax in and watch for monkeys / exotic birds / squirrels. Ruwan has his own tuktuk and gave us many rides, even taking us on a tour down to Galle. Location is nice because it’s off the main road, but still very central. Above all, Ruwan’s family was so kind and welcoming. They invited us to a huge bash for their son’s first birthday, which gave us great insights into Sri Lankan culture and was a wild experience for our baby!

Everything was exceptional Ruwan communication before arrival and during stay very helpful person the place is amazing so peaceful and it’s not far to walk to coconut hill or beach and parrot rock, restaurants ect .Even saw monkey in tree here ,hearing the birds in morning definitely paradise breakfast very good . My room was great hot water fridge water supplied for drinking fan & air con choice very clean and homely touch with plants very comfortable stay good wifi too

Ruwan war ein außergewöhnlicher Gastgeber und extrem zuvorkommend. Er hat sich sofort um all unsere Wünsche gekümmert und zu dem Geburtstag einer Freundin sogar einen Kuchen auf seine Kosten besorgt. Das Frühstück wurde jeden Tag frisch zubereitet und ist da auch auf unsere Obsteünsche eingegangen. Die Betten waren sehr bequem und das Bad sauber. Die Lage war auch gut, man ist zwar etwas weiter von der Hauptstraße entfernt aber trotzdem innerhalb 5 Minuten am Strand. Kleine süße Läden, ein Supermarkt sowie ein gym waren auch Fußläufig. All in all, TOP!

Это было ужасно. Мы забронировали дом, размером 46 метров. Итог- мы приехали, никакого дома там нет. Первый этаж- хозяйский, нас провели по крутой лестнице на второй этаж. Это не дом, а надстройка на втором этаже. Нас поселили в комнату, размер которой, был максимум 23-25 метров, при этом перемещаться там было невозможно, так как стояли две двухспальные кровати. Запах в номере такой, что дышать невозможно- плесень, затхость. У меня астма, она тут же дала о себе знать. Стены в туалетной комнате покрашены в черно- серый депрессивный цвет. Кухня, которую нам показали- это ужас. Комнатка 1*2метра, без окна, духатища, кроме чайника нет ничего. В номере стоит кулер, но ни чашки ни стакана нет. Когда мы попросили 2 стакана, нам их несли минут 10. Хозяин- это вообще отдельный разговор. Когда мы ему сказали, что это не наш дом, который мы бронировали, он нас стал убеждать, что это именно то, что мы забронировали. Когда мы указали, что размер не соответствует нашей брони, он просто предложил вынести одну кровать. Это что, раздвинет стены? После долгих пререканий, он сказал, что наш номер занят. Весело. Ну их там пятеро, а вас двое - сказал он.? Моё какое дело. Он пообещал, что завтра он нас переселит. Ок, мы люди не скандальные, ждём. При этом деньги он взял всё сразу, не дав нам опомниться. Короче, настроение на этот день было испорчено капитально. Ночуем, наступает утро, ничего не происходит. Сидим, ждём. Приходит хозяин и говорит, что вот-вот те жильцы уедут. Ок. Ждём. В это время он начинае нам навязывать свои услуги, что бы нас куда-то отвезти, показывает нам отзывы, причём это навязчиво и настойчиво. Около 12 утра наконец нам(прошло уже полдня) нам показали номер побольше ( комната, а не дом) кошмар. Он чуть-чуть побольше, но там уже стоит 3 огромных кровати, грязь невыносимая, вонь страшная. Мы отказались и стали требовать возврат денег. Мы даже были согласны заплатить за эту жалкую комнатушку ща одну ужасную ночь полную стоимость, но тут начинается кошмар.

Wir waren 7 Tage bei Ruwan und seiner Familie im Jungle Homestay und es war eine tolle Zeit. Alle sind sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Die Unterkunft ist liebevoll eingerichtet, es hat an nichts gefehlt. Wasser gab es kostenlos. Kühlschrank im Zimmer. Jeder Wunsch wurde erfüllt. Gefrühstückt haben wir auf der zum Zimmer gehörenden Terrasse mitten im Grünen und konnten Affen, Streifenhörnchen und mehr aus direkter Nähe beobachten. Das Frühstück war lecker und reichlich. Ruwan hat einen tollen Tagesausflug mit seinem TukTuk mit uns unternommen. Wir konnten unter anderem viele Schildkröten sehen. Außerdem hat er uns zu einem nahegelegenen Strand gefahren und auch wieder abgeholt. Auf Wunsch gibt es Abendessen und das war wirklich sehr lecker und reichlich. Wäscheservice wird ebenfalls mit angeboten. Die Unterkunft liegt ruhig und trotzdem sind Geschäfte und der Strand schnell zu erreichen. Wir wären gerne länger geblieben, aber leider ist der Urlaub vorbei. Wir kommen sicher wieder. Ein großes DANKE für eine unvergessliche Zeit :-)

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property in Mirissa. The host is a truly lovely person who goes above and beyond to help with organizing activities and recommending things to do in the area. The property itself is peaceful and surrounded by nature, yet conveniently located only about 400 meters from the main street. It’s the perfect balance between tranquility and accessibility. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay, and I would happily recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Die Unterkunft ist super ruhig gelegen, weg von der lärmigen Hauptstrasse von Mirissa. Der Weg zu Fuss ins Zentrum is ein hübscher Spaziergang. Das Zimmer mit Bad war sehr geräumig. Alles funktionierte einwandfrei. Ruwan ist ein wahnsinnig toller Gastgeber. Er organisierte für uns mehrere Ausflüge, bei welchen er uns persönlich begleitete. Er ist ein sehr herzlicher und korrekter Mensch. Wir würden jederzeit wieder bei ihm übernachten.

Nous avons été accueillis chaleureusement par Ruwan et sa famille, comme de véritables membres de la famille. Leur gentillesse et leur disponibilité ont rendu notre séjour encore plus agréable. Ruwan a été adorable avec nous, toujours à l’écoute de nos demandes et très réactif dans ses réponses. Il nous a beaucoup aidés durant notre séjour : il nous a emmenés en tuk-tuk voir les tortues, nous a recommandé d’excellentes adresses pour manger avec un très bon rapport qualité-prix, et a même réservé pour nous une sortie en mer au cours de laquelle nous avons eu la chance d’observer des dauphins. Un vrai plus ! Le logement est très bien situé, à proximité des magnifiques plages de Coconut Beach et Carrots Beach, sur une côte absolument splendide. La chambre était propre et confortable, avec climatisation, réfrigérateur, eau à disposition et moustiquaires sur les lits. Le logement est fonctionnel et agréable, parfait pour profiter pleinement du séjour. Nous recommandons vivement cet hébergement pour la qualité de l’accueil et l’emplacement idéal.

Дом расположен среди джунглей 🌿 — вокруг зелень, тишина и ощущение полного уединения с природой. Очень красиво, чисто и по-настоящему атмосферно. Номер уютный, комфортный, со всем необходимым для приятного отдыха. Отдельно хочется отметить хозяина — невероятно гостеприимного и внимательного человека. Он приготовил для нас настоящий домашний ужин: съездил на рынок, выбрал свежайшую рыбу и креветки и приготовил великолепные блюда. Всё было вкусно, по-домашнему и с душой. Он всегда был на связи, помогал по любым вопросам и искренне заботился о нашем комфорте. Завтраки по утрам под пение птиц — это особенное удовольствие. Атмосфера спокойствия и уюта делает это место по-настоящему уникальным. Искренне рекомендую всем, кто планирует отдых в Мериссе, останавливаться в Ruwan Jungle Homestay. Это место, куда хочется вернуться. We stayed in Mirissa for 5 nights and chose Ruwan Jungle Homestay for our accommodation — and it was absolutely the right choice. The house is surrounded by lush jungle, creating a peaceful and beautiful atmosphere. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The room was cozy, comfortable, and fully equipped for a relaxing stay. The host is an exceptionally warm and welcoming person. He prepared a wonderful homemade dinner for us: he personally went to the market, bought the freshest fish and prawns, and cooked an amazing meal. It was delicious, authentic, and made with great care. He was always available, ready to help with anything we needed, and truly cared about our comfort. Breakfasts in the morning, accompanied by birds singing, were a special highlight of our stay. I highly recommend Ruwan Jungle Homestay to anyone planning to stay in Mirissa. It’s a place that makes your trip truly memorable.

great position, close to the beach and city centre by walk, very nice appartament with jungle feeling garden around, highly reccomend Imalsha restaurant, close on the way to Mirissa on the right side of main road, and if you are looking good healthy fruit smoothie, visit Sethu juices stand, close on the right side of the road, when walking to Coconut hill, and the best of all, Ruwan, one of the best host I met, hardworking man, very helpful not only with the advice but also trip organization, highly reccomend this place for staying in Mirissa

Ruwan’s homestay is a beautiful property and comfortable when you’re in Mirissa. The beach is very near and the place is close to multiple cafés within 500mts and above. The owner made sure we had a comfortable stay and also helped us with activities in and around the place. Options like scuba/whale watching/snorkelling are available if you ask the owner. We were also served breakfast which was all freshly prepared.

The area is surrounded by a lot of greenery so make sure you carry mosquito repellents if you are sensitive. The beds have the net but if you’re sitting outside room you will need the repellents.

Ruwan jest niezwykle gościnny i pomocny, atmosfera jaką tworzy w swoim hostelu sprawia, że czujesz się tam jak członek jego rodziny. Pyszne poranne śniadania w towarzystwie obserwujących cię małp dodają pobytowi dodatkowych plusów.

Siamo arrivate tardi e siamo partite prestissimo per l'escursione, siamo state veramente poco per godere della tranquillità del posto. Proprietario accogliente. Ci ha preparato la colazione prestissimo e ci ha fornito tutta l'acqua fresca che volevamo.

La camera è spaziosa. Ottima colazione abbondante

Ruwan, il proprietario , ci ha fatto sentire a casa, è una persona molto gentile, simpatica e disponibile. La camera è molto accogliente e pulita ed ha uno splendido balcone da cui ammirare gli animali della jungla. Ottima ed abbondante colazione. Posizione molto rilassante, ma vicina alla spiaggia ed ai locali della zona.

We had a fantastic stay with Ruwan. He was so accommodating, kind and helpful - we wished we could have stayed longer! From the start Ruwan was kind enough to offer to take us to many places and organised a whale watching tour which was amazing. He stocked the fridge with water and kept asking if we needed more. When I was unwell he offered everything he could to help and then sorted a taxi for us to our next destination. Overall our favourite homestay in Sri Lanka!

Sehr freundlicher Empfang. Ruwan kümmert sich richtig herzlich um seine Gäste. Zimmer sehr sauber Ausblick auf die Umgebung mit Tieren (Affen, Pfau, Streiffenhörnchen) Super Frühstück.

Wat een warme, vriendelijke host is Ruwan. We werden verwelkomd met ‘coconut junglestyle’ De kamers zijn groot, mooi en schoon. We hebben genoten van de rust in de hangmatten en de vele bloemen en planten. Vooral boven was fijn omdat het daar lekker licht was. ‘S Ochtends een lekker ontbijt, de ene dag Sri Lankaans, de andere dag westers. Hij deed er alles aan om ons te helpen, vroeg wat we graag wilden zien en doen. Zo bracht hij ons met de tuktuk overal heen. ‘s Avonds hebben we heerlijk verse vis gegeten, in de ochtend zijn de kinderen gaan surfen in Weligama. (Helaas is de zee daar meer vervuild) In de middag hebben we een uitstapje gemaakt naar Galle. Dank je wel voor het fijne verblijf Ruwan 🙏🏻 Echt een aanrader deze plek!

Un oasis de tranquilidad en Mirissa. Cerca de todo, pero lo suficientemente lejano para descansar sin ruidos. Ruwan es un espléndido anfitrión y muy cercano, ayudando en todo lo que puede. Los desayunos muy ricos, con mucha variedad y platos típicos de Sri Lanka. Además te recibe con el frigorífico lleno de agua para el día a día. Sin duda volvería a alojarme si vuelvo a Mirissa.

Fantastic stay. We are couple on Sri Lanka trip from India. Ruwan is very nice person and very very honest and helpful. I stayed in first floor room. Newly constructed and very comfortable room with Ac , refrigerator, kitchen, dryer and very clean bathroom with clean bed sheets and towels. Very happy with my stay. I recommend this place for everyone to come and spend time. Coconut beach, parrot beach is 600 mtrs walking and Marissa beach is 900 mtrs walking. 100% recommend to stay with Ruwan. Thank you

Ruwan and his family were very careful to ensure us a nice stay. Room is big and clean, beads were confortable, hot water at the bathroom. Good location, minutes walking to the beach and restaurants nearby.

I had such a great stay at Ruwan's Jungle homestay. The rooms are beautifully decorated, Ruwan is a wonderful kind man, the beds are comfy, the location is about 10 minute walk to the main beach area, there is a rooftop where you can see across the entire canopy of the jungle and see some cool animals, cute chipmunks run around the garden area, the breakfast is tasty, the wi-fi is good, the showers have hot water, Ruwan also picked me up and dropped me off where I wanted to be before and after my stay and he also helped me get a scooter from his friend at a good price for a very well maintained bike.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! We booked for 2 nights and stayed four. Testament to how wonderful this Homestay is and how wonderful this family are. Ruwan is such a great host. This is a must to anyone staying in this area.

Home from home! Ruwan and his family couldn’t have made us feel more welcome to their lovely Homestay. Nothing was too much trouble. The room had a very comfortable bed and modern bathroom. The shower was powerful and in the heat a welcome relief. Our room was on the small side but this wasn’t a problem as the outside space had a hammock, table and chairs. Breakfast was served daily by Ruwan and his lovely daughter. It was fresh and plentiful and always delivered with a big smile. The air conditioning in the room wasn’t great and took some getting used to. Ruwan did kindly offer to change our room but we declined as we didn’t want to inconvenience him with another room to clean. However it is only fair to share this information. We stayed 4 Nights with Ruwan and his family and everyday he checked on our welfare, if we needed anything or a ride anywhere. He organised a wonderful Whale watching trip for us, one we would recommend, as a must when in this area. Ruwan kindly cooked us a delicious Sri Lanka. Fish supper despite his wife only day’s earlier giving birth to their son. On New Years Day the family invited us for breakfast in their home. The food was plentiful, delicious and a reflection of this family’s kindness and willingness to share their hospitality with us. I urge Anyone in this area to visit Ruwan and his family if wanting an authentic experience. Ruwan, thank you , we will be back. You are in our hearts forever. Xox

Breakfast was delicious and we could get to eat Jackfruit too. The property is well maintained and full of greenery. The owner Mr. Ruwan is very cooperative.

Everything was perfect. There is nothing to put about dislike

We booked it, and when came to check in, we didn’t choose to stay. Guy met as very friendly but when we said that we didn’t like, he directly turned to opposite mood. Room had crazy mold smell. There was not really windows in the room. Mold smell is very harmful for people body, so we left it. Otherwise room was okey. No space at all and a lot of furniture. For even cheaper price later on we rented really nice fresh accommodation. But around the room area is very nice, jungle, calm you feel like you are in the wild, great

Small steep stairs are a workout with heavy luggage and hot water for shower is not boiling.

Quiet place close to the center, you can book various activities, as well as a delicious lunch or dinner. We decided on fish and crab and it was delicious. The air conditioning in the room works efficiently, large and pleasant to the touch towels, a hammock in front of the door. We recommend

Amazing stay with Ruwan. Even though we were only there for 1 night, Ruwan went out his way to help us in any way he could - communicating with whale watching tours, driving to next location. Really felt like he was looking out for us, and trying to help, including helping us to save money where possible. Set back from the Main Street so nice and quiet, cute moneys about the tree!

Ruwan was a very friendly and generous host. We very much enjoyed our short 2 night stay at the homestay. He made several arrangements for us including a great whale watching trip (boat provided breakfast), taking us to the port in his tuktuk at 6am for the trip and sorting out our taxi to Galle. It's a great location, very tucked away and quiet but easy to get to the beautiful beach or bars/cafes/restaurants of Mirissa. His family also were extremely friendly and he gave us an excellent breakfast.

There are a few places nearby where the bass music was pretty loud also in the morning/night so that didnt help with sleeping, but obviously, that is not the fault of the accomodation

Ruwan is a wonderful host and a great guy. Always prepared to help and give you advice, you can really ask him anything. He can even cook you a nice dinner and makes breakfast according to your wishes.

We got the lower apartment and it was a bit stuffy, air condition helps a bit.

We booked 2 rooms and stayed 3 nights. The rooms were super clean and Ruwan was very helpful with everything. He arranged everything we asked for and also offered us some short Tuk Tuk rides when needed.

The valve for the hot water was quite high in both rooms, making it a bit of a struggle each time to reach and turn it on. However, this can be easily resolved by using a short stool to step on.

Lovely place, just like we wanted - in the jungle, yet very close to the beaches and High St. And Ruwan - exceptional host! Always ready to help and to go extra mile to fulfil your needs! Highly recommend to experience good karma of the place and Ruwan’s family.

Ruwan did work very hard to get his 10-point rating, he will go to any length to solve your problems and make them his. He even allowed us to add milk in Sri Lankan coffee :). He also really wanted to show us 40 baby elephants drinking milk and was a bit sad that we did not go with him.

Ruwan jungle home was absolutely incredible. The location is amazing - off the main road so nice and quiet but just a short walk to the restaurants and the beach. The beds are comfortable and rooms cool and the monkeys visit in the morning. We ate all across Mirrissa, but the best food we had was at Ruwans. We had amazing breakfast every day, and Ruwans wife made us the most delicious dinners twice. The best food. But most of all - Ruwan is an amazing host. He made sure we were so well looked after, and took us on day trips - made sure we had all the best experiences. We left Ruwans desperate to go back and feeling as though we had made a great friend. Thank you Ruwan and family for such a brilliant stay.

Ruwan is such an amazing host! He will help organise any trips for you for a locals price, he will give you all the tips for the area and cook you an amazing breakfast for you each morning. He is a man of many talents 🌟 The room is very clean and spacious, it also has a beautiful balcony with a hammock where you can listen to nature. On top of that you get a fridge filled with water which is very handy in this hot climate! I recommend for your stay in Mirissa 🌞

Very good value for the price! At Ruwans you get at little appartment, featuring the bedroom as pictured with a comfy big bed, a modern bathroom and even a little kitchen. Everything was very clean! We also liked the moskito-net even though there were no moskitos in the room, luckily:) a simple but nice and homemade breakfast is served on the balkony, with nice jungle view. You are in 400-500m walking distance from the main road with shops and restaurants and beach. Ruwan organised a scooter for us, picked us up from the train station and offered several rides for free to other places which was more than friendly!! We can recommend his place:)

Nothing, it is just what you expect!

The Jungle Homestay is situated very close to the beach but also far enough to be away from the busy main road. So you enjoy the quiet and listen to the hum of nature in a jungle setting. The room covers all the basics very well with the benefit of having A/C. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious.

We had two units for our family of five and they each had a private entrance. Ruwan was very easy to reach and he really took the initiative to make our stay as easy and pleasant as possible. He was cheerful and sincere. He arranged our whale watching tour and took us to see turtles.

You might want to check if toiletries (shampoo especially) are provided as we had to ask for it. But Ruwan, as usual, came quickly to the rescue and all was good. Thank you, Ruwan.

More Days i had, more Days i would Stay with Ruwan. (Extended from 3 to 5 nights) It's a very Nice place to Stay in Mirissa, i can tell you. 1st, i slept like a baby. AC working, WiFi working, mosquito net in place. He is a great host and Will Help with everything he can I really liked it , and i can recommend Ruwan

Everything perfect

It was beautiful. The rooms are tidy and comfortable. The multiple trees made the temperature cooler. It was really relaxing to just hang out outside the house. Ruwan was the best host one could have. He was so helpful and friendly and enthusiastic. He arranged pick up from the airport for us, took us around in his tuk-tuk , took us snokerling and surfing. He was also really fun to chill with. The food here was heavenly, it’s a slice of traditional cuisine . Ruwan went out of his way to serve us tea and coconut water when we requested. If you want to experience the authentic Mirissa you must definitely visit.

So happy i booked this place for the longest duration of our trip. The room was spacious with plenty of furniture to store our things including an indoor and outdoor dining area. We had the best villa on the property- little trek through some plants to get there but then meant our terrace was private with nobody walking past. The host was very attentive and always available for anything we needed. He even dropped us off at restaurants in his tuk tuk. There was also a fridge full of chilled water ready for our arrival. Also loved how the bathroom had the feel of being outside without actually being outside. Got to see peacocks, squirrels and monkeys while enjoying breakfast without any interference from the wildlife. The host also has a very sweet well trained dog that does not wander into guest area. Aircon was amazing.

The only thing i could possibly complain about is the aircon being too good as actually woke up in the middle of the night freezing 🤣

Wow, what a spot! We stayed in a room with a balcony, which was such an awesome place to relax. We were unlucky with the weather during our two night stay, so it was a great spot to watch the rain fall. It was very quiet, away from the main road. The host, Ruwan, is an incredibly generous, kind and warm host. His hospitality was superb. The breakfast was very good! Lastly, there’s a beautiful dog on the property. This accomodation was excellent and we are so glad we booked.

This was a lovely place to stay! It was in a great location within walking distance to the beach and places to eat. It had everything we needed including a fridge with cold water. Breakfast was delicious. Ruwan was fantastic and went above and beyond to look after us. He gave us advice on the local area, drove me early to the harbour to see the fish markets and drove us to Galle. A wonderful host!

Actually we just wanted to stay 1 night to have a short stop from the airport to Arugam but then we met this awesome guy Ruwan and his lovely homestay and we ended up staying there for a whole week. The rooms are beautiful and you have a very big bed, fan and a good AC. We absolutely loved the balcony with the hammock and the unique jungle view where you can watch all kinds of aninimals. Its super quite there and still so close to the beaches, the restaurants and the shops! Just perfect. You get a delicious breakfast and you can easily rent a scooter from him which we used a lot to discover this beautiful area. What we liked most was Ruwan himself. He is an outstanding guy who is so helpful, kindhearted and friendly in every situation. From our first phone call (to manage the airport shuttle) to our last tuktuk ride to our next destination we had a great time with him while he always treated us like his own family. All of his recommendations were super helpful, as you can read it in all the other positive reviews. Its true, he is a genuinely good guy who just wants to make his guests happy and help them in all situations. We will miss him and his place for sure and hope to see him someday again. We totally recommend his accommodation and would absolutely come back! :)

Ruwan's breakfast was an incredible Sri Lankan style breakfast! He even went to go get milk especially for me to make Kiritea!

We liked Ruwan’s hospitality. He is a nice host. All was prepared for our stay. We were welcomed with coco nuts. He was attentive and kind.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it started with Ruwan contacting us to ask if he could pick us up from somewhere to make it easier for us. This saved a lot of time and hassle and made a great first impression. He asked about our interests and what we had planned and then arranged everything for us, with good local knowledge and contacts. He always put us first and gave us lots of extras, like free water, stopping to buy us fruit and trips in his tuk tuk to wherever we needed to go. The room was beautiful and spacious with the biggest bed. We were provided with so much food for breakfast, served on the balcony, and always with a smile. We laughed a lot and always enjoyed his company. His wife and daughters were also charming. A home cooked dinner of chicken kotthu and dhal one night was the best we had in our 3 week trip. Nothing is too hard, nor too far away for him to tackle- He even took us to Sinharaja Rainforest. We won't forget our time with him.

Ruwan is an utterly fantastic host, with an awesome homestay. Ruwan was incredibly knowledgeable, generous and you truly felt welcomed into his beautiful family. Our son didn't want to leave and nor did we. The best hospitality we've ever had.

Have had an amazing time at Ruwan’s homestay. He is sooo kind and goes above and beyond to help and make your stay enjoyable. On my arrival, he bought me a fresh coconut as a welcome drink. He also cooked me a delicious vegetarian meal on the night I arrived and stayed to chat with me to discuss how I could spend my time in Mirissa. The place is really in the jungly and I have seen so many animals in my stay here - monkeys, woodpeckers, turtles, squirrels! He works so hard and is such a genuinely nice man, I’m very grateful to have come across Ruwan’s homestay :)

This was our favorite accommodations in all of Sri Lanka. We ended up staying 5 nights. The owner, Ruwan, is such a friendly guy and made all the effort to make us feel at home. During our first night the AC broke in our room and the next morning Ruwan allowed us to move to a different room without any problem. He also prepared a delicious breakfast for us every morning. The room itself was spacious and clean, the beds comfortable and the area very jungle-like. We even saw monkeys from our window several times (also woken up by them running on the roof).

One thing that I should point out is that currently (June 2024) there is a construction of another apartment, but it wasn't too noisy or dirty. Just saying this so that you won't be surprised when you arrive to this perfect homestay!

the property and facilities were phenomenal, very comfortable rooms with all amenities.

the owner ruwan at the start was very friendly to us and cooked us a lovely breakfast (that we paid extra for), he even offered us a free ride in his tuktuk to the beach. After the first breakfast some of the items that were included in the breakfast weren’t available which was disappointing but we didn’t mind, then he spoke to my partner in a strange way that I did not appreciate about the prices of our fare down to mirissa and would not stop asking her about the prices saying how he could get them cheaper. then on the third day he cooked us 1 very over cooked egg for each of us with fruit and toast but left it out when we were not ready so by the time we got out there, there was flys all over our food which was pretty disappointing, a simple cover for our food would have been appreciated. when it came to payment he asked for extra money after we already paid his daughter because he required to be elsewhere even though he told us that the drive to the beach was for free and if we wanted to pay him extra money we could have but we decided not to because of the genuine lack of effort in our breakfast.

He's an incredibly kind and genuine person who went above and beyond to ensure I had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Unlike others who might try to overcharge tourists, Ruwan offered the best help and the most reasonable prices. He even helped me a lot with things after my stay in Mirissa. Ruwan was friendly and the room was very clean and comfortable. He was really good with recommendations and was always there when we needed him. The fully stocked fridge with water was a life saver and such a nice touch so you didn’t have to keep asking.

Perfect location only 700m from the beach. You can sleep very quiet, it's a very clean room. Good breakfast. Ruwan is very friendly and knows the exact spot to see seaturtles and when! Don't hesitate just book this homestay! Ruwan is very customer friendly!

Ruwan is a great host, always ready to help. I recommend also to have at least one dinner here - was better than on the beach! The location is quite near to the main beach and he can take you there with a tuk tuk or can organise things like whale watching or visits to distant beaches and temples.

Ruwan is an incredible host, I genuinely believe he’s one of the kindest and friendliest hosts I have ever had, and I don’t say that lightly! He will do anything to make your stay comfortable and memorable. The facilities are great, super comfy beds with good wifi and good A/C. The bathroom is clean with a powerful shower and it even has a fully kitted kitchen to use. He offered us dinner but we had already booked to go out, we wish we had the dinner with him as it looked delicious. Fish and prawns with salad and potato’s. He even did our laundry for a super cheap price. The location is good. A 10 minute walk to the beach and plenty of restaraunts/bars nearby. He will offer to take you to places if you want to see things nearby. I highly recommend anyone to stay here.

The accommodation was nicely a little off the main road, so it was quiet and peaceful.

Nice apartment in the jungle, with a hammock on the balcony for evening relaxation. Well equipped and in close proximity to the beach, 5 min walk. Ruwan is a great host who cares a lot about his guests and is always willing to help. We would love to come back here again! Highly recommended!

Ruwan is the best host ever!!! A host that not only put his 101% to help us but also a super multi-talented guy. Can we say we are really very happy with the homestay!! It was really clean and the toilet, wow?!!! The place is well-equipped, has a fridge (with freezer), comes with a kitchen and room is air-conditioned! It's really pretty and insta-worthy! Ruwan speaks good English too! He is a superb driver. He gave us a really good package price for all the activities (including transport) for our 4D3N stay here. He brought us to the Safari to see jungle animals (we had a private jeep haha!!!), settled the tickets for our whale-watching activity (and even drove us there early in the morning to reserve the best seats!!), brought us to eat nice local dinner, even brought us to less touristy places to buy goodies e.g. Sri Lankan Tea!!!!! He even taught us to surf. How crazy is that? He can do literally EVERYTHING!!!!!! They say “Jack of all trades, master of none” but Ruwan is literally the master of EVERYTHING😭 plus his family is so cute and friendly which makes us feel so welcomed!!! Oh and for those who love dogs, he has a super cute black dog🥹 Ruwan is also very attentive to the needs of the guests and is extremely genuine, we were so touched 😭 He would call us to check where are we to ensure we are safe, come over with his tuk tuk to fetch us whenever he need him. Situated at the forest's edge, the area is rich in wildlife, offering sightings of peacocks, various monkeys, countless birds, and even a monitor lizard. If you enjoy being around animals, this place is for you, though be prepared for some noise. The nearby beach is also great for watching turtles in the morning. The Host: I have to mention Ruwan, the host. He was incredibly helpful, fulfilling our requests without asking for extra payment, although I felt it was right to give him something. Just let Ruwan know what you need, and he'll handle it. Additionally, the food Ruwan prepared for us was incredibly delicious. We had curry shrimp that was simply unforgettable. The Room: Our room was excellent, featuring its kitchen where we occasionally cooked seafood. The facilities, including the internet, were all in good working order. I worked remotely for two weeks, and the internet service met my needs. Just a note: as I did, you might need to ask Ruwan to upgrade the internet service for a fee if you require faster speeds. Conclusion: I wholeheartedly recommend Ruwan Jungle Homestay for anyone looking for a comfortable stay close to nature, with excellent service and unforgettable food.

Ruwan was a great host and gave us loats of recommendations for activities.In his jungle garden there were monkeys who came by to say hello and the acommandation is not on the main road which makes your stay more quiet. There are heaps of bars and restaurants such as the beach in walking diatance.

It was all perfect..

Although only 10 minutes from the main beach front, it is a very nice quiet spot. The plot is full of lush plants and foliage, which is cool. The room was spacious with a lovely bed and mosquito net. With a variety of local options at breakfast time. Ruwan and his family are very very nice, nothing is too much trouble either to provide or arrange for you. A very nice touch I thought was a large number of chilled bottles of water waiting for you in the fridge, rather than the usual one bottle. A little thing, but very thoughtful when you are visiting a country where hydration is important, and a great example of how kind they are.

Having travelled throughout South East Asia for many years we found our room, the service, the location and the amazing wildlife to be the most authentic and genuine experience we have ever had. We stayed for a total of 19 nights. Our long stay was made even more special by the exceptional levels of hospitality and sincere care shown towards us by Ruwan and His Wife Sasangi who also provided us with the most beautiful food made from local ingredients, Sasangi is an extraordinary cook all of which is provided from their family kitchen. For those looking to enjoy a real taste of Sri Lankan life in idyllic surroundings then look no further. We can't recommend Ruwans Jungle Homestay highly enough....a score of 10 just doesn't do it justice we wish we were able to give it far more than that. Ruwan was the best host we’ve ever had. His family are lovely and made us a wonderful dinner one evening. He sorted a whale watching tour for us for a discounted rate and taxied us around when needed. He went above and beyond at every given opportunity. The room was clean and had air con, a fridge and plenty of free water.

There is really nice garden and hammock. It’s nice to chill there. The place was clean and also it’s great to have big fridge with water. The host is nice and answers all your questions.

If you’re an introvert the host can be a little overwhelming. Also it’s really loud in the morning.
