I would have liked a small space (maybe table) in the kitchen to help with food prep. I would have liked better wi-fi. But these are small quibbles because, overall, we were very happy here.

Reviewed Jul 14, 2026Very relaxing stay. The suite is a super-spacious, bright room, with lovely views over the woods and the gardens. Very comfortable bed and the bathroom has a beautiful roll top bath, with more pretty views for you to soak away modern stresses, taking pride of place. Simon and Eilish were lovely hosts and the scrambled eggs breakfast option was delicious. I would have loved to have gotten to know their sweet dog, Max, a bit more but he's very shy, unless you have a treat to hand, maybe :-) It's only a few minutes away from Abbeyleix town so do check out the wonderful Morrissey's pub and Joe Bergin's pub, if you have the opportunity.

The location is peaceful, in a quiet rural setting, though not far from the quaint village of Abbeyleix or the spectular ruins at the Rock of Dunamase. Breakfast was delicious, as a welcome healthy alternative to the pervasive meat-heavy Irish morning feasts. I highly recommend the Blackhill Woods Retreat.

Das Frühstück war unglaublich lecker und wurde uns sogar aufs Zimmer gebracht – ein richtig schöner Start in den Tag. Auch das Haus selbst sowie die Umgebung sind wunderschön und laden zum Entspannen ein. Absolut empfehlenswert!

We were desperate for a place as we had been up for over 36 hours and my husband was falling asleep at the wheel! We were able to get in our room within 40 minutes and I’ve never enjoyed a place more!!!

Reviewed Aug 17, 2025Très belle demeure nichée dans un cadre de verdure volontairement laissé sauvage par notre hôte très accueillant, sympathique et de bon conseil sur les points d'intérêts de la région. La chambre était très spacieuse et disposait d'un dressing qui donnait ensuite sur une salle de bain avec douche et surtout très belle baignoire avec vu que le bois à l'arrière de la maison. Le petit déjeuner est une option payante avec plusieurs choix possibles et servi à l'heure pile demandée en chambre, sur un plateau.
La douche jure un peu avec la classe de la baignoire. Les joints sont à refaire.

Basically a b&b staying in owners home. Dog barking sometimes. Bathroom shower and floor needs a lot of grout replaced and shower caulk needs replacing. Entry way rug has dog hair, stair carpet is old and not a good impression. Should’ve been informed of dog presence when booking. Balcony of bedroom was covered w moss and lichen and didn’t look safe although there was furniture on it.

Located not too far from reach but far enough to be removed and secluded, the retreat Offerten everything we wehe looking for: nature, comfortable beds, homey feeling. The absolute highlight was the breakfast, which we enjoyed while Waschung the birds chirping about in the meadow. an absolute cinderella Moment. Thank you so much!

I loved the space in the room, the facilities provided including the large bath and the hosts kindness and providence. The breakfast was a lovely healthy alternative to what I’m used to and the host even invited me to a yoga class in the evening!
