The family and their friendly dogs. The family were lovely and made us a fantastic breakfast. The location is pretty good in terms of it being walkable to restaurants and a supermarket.

The property is very dated, aspects of this are in keeping with its colonial charm but the bathrooms are in dire need of refurbishment. Unfortunately there is also extensive mould and damp in the bedroom we stayed in, on the walls and ceiling. There is a strong smell of damp in the room and I couldn’t sleep at all.

The owner was so friendly and helpful and gave us lots of interesting information on the history of the area. The breakfast was delicious, especially the fresh fruit juice. The rooms were comfortable and clean.

The showers could have been slightly stronger.

Een prachtig koloniaal huis. Grote kamers met mooie meubels. De badkamer was minder mooi dan de slaapkamer, maar voldeed. Een uitgebreid en heel lekker ontbijt. Een van de beste van de hele reis! Vanuit het huis kan je de mooie wandeling naar Single tree top hill doen.

Je had een familiaal gevoel in dit kleinschalige verblijf. Zeer vriendelijke ontvangst door de eigenaar. Goed ontbijt. Verwacht geen luxe, maar de kamers zijn wel prima in orde.

De ramen en hoekjes in de badkamer kunnen wel wat properder!

Estuvimos un grupo de amigos, la casa era solo para nosotros, le propusimos al dueño que dejase dormir a nuestro guía, pagándole una habitación más, pues era tarde y con mucha lluvia, y no le dejó, el pobre tuvo que dormir en la furgo.

From the moment we arrived, the wonderful hosts welcomed us with genuine warmth and made us feel like family. Their kindness, generosity, and attention to every little detail made our stay truly unforgettable. The stunning colonial house is full of history and charm—it feels like walking into another era. The rooms are cozy, beautifully maintained, and the huge beds are incredibly comfortable, ensuring a perfect night's sleep. Breakfast was simply amazing: a generous spread of homemade dishes prepared with love, fresh tropical fruits, and delicious freshly squeezed juices. Every meal reflected the care and hospitality of the hosts. This is much more than a place to sleep—it's an experience you'll remember long after your trip. We can't recommend it highly enough and would return in a heartbeat!

The host family went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the breakfast was absolutely fabulous. The portions were so generous that we couldn’t even finish everything! Whenever we requested tea, the hosts happily prepared it for us. As an extra gesture of kindness, they even dropped us off at the railway station, despite it not being included in the booking. The location was also excellent. Pizza Hut, Domino’s, and several other restaurants were just steps away from the property, while a supermarket was only a 1–2 minute walk away, making it very convenient for anything we needed. Without a doubt, these were some of the best hosts we have ever had. We loved every moment of our stay and would gladly choose to stay here again if we return to Nuwara Eliya. Highly recommended!

There was a noticeable incense aroma in the property upon arrival, which might feel a little strong at first for some guests, but we got used to it very quickly and it wasn’t an issue during the rest of our stay.

We had a lovely stay at Shirin1892 in Nuwara Eliya. The house has a wonderful old charm dating back to 1892 and although the rooms are old, they were clean and comfortable. Our host Asela was incredibly kind and welcoming and we really enjoyed the delicious Sri Lankan breakfast served every morning!

民宿入口道路是陡碎石坡而且很狹窄，要小心駕駛。住了兩晚，兩天都有遇到停電的情況。浴室水量極為細小，洗澡很困難。房間隔音不好。其它沒什麼缺點。

Les propriétaires sont d'une grande gentillesse et sont très avenants. Une étape hors du temps dans cette ancienne maison coloniale. Les lits sont confortables. Le petit déjeuner excellent et copieux !

j'ai beaucoup aimé ce voyage dans le temps, j'étais comme une invitée dans le cottage. Le charme de l'ancien fait que les commodités sont aussi d'époque mais pour moi, c'est le charme justement. Le petit déjeuner était délicieux, gargantuesque.

On a aimé le jardin et le calme de la maison. Les hôtes sont très gentils. Le petit déjeuner est très bon. La situation géographique est très bien.

C'est très vieillot. Les chambres sont grandes mais très vieillottes. Les chambres sont un peu sombres. Un matin le petit déjeuner a été servi dans la cuisine sombre alors qu'il faisait très beau. On a trouvé ça un peu dommage.

Das Frühstück und das freundliche Personal. Bett war bequem. Half einem bei Tourenbuchungen und den Weitertransport. Wäscheservice war sauber, schnell und günstig.

Das Zimmer hatte einen extrem schmutzigen und fleckigen Teppichboden, den man ohne Schuhe nicht betreten möchte. Das Bad fiel in sich fast schon zusammen. Das Waschbecken drohte jeden Moment aus der Wand zu brechen. Die Wandhalterungen waren fast alle abgebrochen oder fielen aus der Wand. Der Wasserstrahl in der Dusche ist sehr schwach. Man könnte zwischen den einzelnen Tropfen problemlos hin und her springen. In der Badewanner war die Emailleschicht komplett ab. Der Boden war fast schwarz. Sehr hellhöriges Haus. Allgemein, das Inventar gehört komplett renoviert. Die Fotos im Internet sind sehr beschönigt!

This was an absolutely brilliant stay. The house is in a very quiet location. The room we had was huge, spacious and very comfortable. The host was very friendly, and made us a great breakfast to take away when we left early in the morning. We wanted to go out for dinner and it was raining, and the host very kindly insisted to take us to a restaurant and get us back to the property in his van.

You need to pass through a bit of a dirt road to get to the place. However, completely worth it when you get there :)

Bonne surprise la chambre de 4 qui était une petite suite avec 2 chambres séparées. Très spacieux. Le personnel a été au petit soin, comme nous partions très tôt pour la gare on nous a proposé un petit dej a emporté qui était très copieux et très bon.

Je ne sais pas si c'est une malchance mais il y a eu malheureusement une grosse fête avec musique à fond jusqu'à 1h00 du matin et elle a repris avec la même intensité à 6h00 du matin...

Very friendly host who went out of his way to make us comfortable, even giving us a lift to a local hotel for afternoon tea. The house and its history was interesting and our room and the bathroom were very clean and spacious. The breakfast was huge and tasty and they even made me gluten free alternatives which was much appreciated!

Large rooms. Very friendly host. Excellent breakfast. Great value for money. Awareness: Not luxurious, but spacious and clean. Good hot water in bath, but wash basin was freezing cold water. An area looking like bath tub, but was narrow, so had to bathe outside it. The approach road to main road, is a bit raw and it's dark at night, not safe to walk. If you have own vehicle, great, else host is very kind to offer a drop and pickup to restaurant for dinner. Host Mr Asela also offers free pickup from bus/rail Overall, with slight adjustments, perfect homestay. I would rate 9/10

Das Haus wirkt wie aus der Zeit gefallen. Die Einrichtung ist noch orginalgetreu, man fühlt sich wie im viktorianischen Zeitalter. Zudem ist der Besitzer sehr zuvorkommend und hat uns sogar zum bahnhof gebracht

Auch wenn viele die Bäder als kleinen Kritikpunkt erachten- so ist es doch eine Besonderheit dass die Bäder im Orginalzustand überdauert haben!

Everything was absolutely perfect! The room was clean, cozy, and well prepared. The entire place was spotless and matched the description. The host was very kind, helpful, and always available if needed. I would gladly come back and can only recommend this place

The owner of the guest house picked and dropped us from nanu oya train station. And everything was very nice. He arranged transport for us for Horton's plains as well and packed our breakfast at 5:30am. The view from the room of fields was nice in the morning too.

Some areas on the walls were paint coming off. And pressure in the shower was very low. Nothing too much but just a suggestion to improve that. Still 10/10 on everything else.

Ein charmantes Gästehaus mit kolonialem Flair. Der Gastgeber hat uns sogar kostenlos vom Bahnhof abgeholt, was sehr praktisch war. Das sri Frühstück war frisch und lecker. Die Umgebung mit See und Park ist klein, aber sehr idyllisch. Hier fühlt man sich ein bisschen in die Kolonialzeit zurückversetzt. Sehr empfehlenswert für einen besonderen Aufenthalt.

I really wanted a quiet getaway to both work and relax, and Shirin 1892 exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was quite delicious, nutritious, and thoughtfully prepared. The owner, Mr. Asela Ariyarathne was attentive to every detail, and the rest of the staff were a delight, too. Shirin 1892 is one of the safest spaces for a stay over for especially a solo traveller and the same applies to those who travel in groups. Highly recommended without any reservation.

The nicest owner you can think of. Helped us a lot by picking up from the train station and high tea etc, and arranging a tour. Always up for a nice conversation. The house is beautiful and brings you back to the old days with a lot of charm Located 2 mins walk from a decent supermarket, 10mins walk from the disappointing lake and 5 mins ride from the centre.

The house is old and the owner is obliged not to change much. So yes the bathroom is a little outdated and the house isn't overly warm in the rainy days. But you just can't expect 100% modern facilities, certainly not at this price point

La famiglia che gestisce questa casa si tipico stile angosassone/coloniale è assolutamente deliziosa, la colazione è buonissima e abbondante, la casa è pulita anche se forse un po' vecchiotta, ma assolutamente meritevole di una visita, fare solo attenzione che non piova tutto il tempo quando passare a Nuwara Elyia! :)

The owner of the property is extremely cordial and cooperative person. I really admire him. In fact, he assisted us a lot to make our one day visit in Nuwara Eliya successful. One more thing, the breakfast was really fantastic with delicious egg hopper and fresh fruit juice. However, the facilities in washroom may be improved.

We stayed here for two nights in old English house. The breakfast was amazing, beds were comfortable. Great owners. They prepared wonderful package breakfast for early morning departure to Horton Plains. We also appreciated blankets, during nights was cold. The rooms are big for all family.

We loved the host, super friendly, personable and helpful! The location is ideal, we could walk to Gregory Lake as well as see the golf course/cricket fields. He gave us a great room and the breakfast was our favorite in Sri Lanka and included hoppers!

Leider nicht so sauber gewesen…ist aber auch ein riesiges altes Haus. Kein Wasserdruck - duschen war schwierig.

Homestay is located near to the main road and tourist attractions. The host was great and provided good breakfast even though we started early at around 5.30 am in the morning to hortons national park. The inside of the house take us a few decades back preserving the heritage of Britishers.

The path to the homestay was a bit lonely without lights in the night.

Excellent hosting by Asela from pickup/ drop, arranging tour packages and going out of the way to make the stay as comfortable as possible. Close to supermarket and a local restaurant. House is well maintained with an authentic feel. Breakfast is good.

I’ve visited Nuwara Eliya many times in my life, but I’ve never truly connected with the place until now. It changed during my most recent trip, and I now realize that where you stay can make all the difference. This time, we stayed at Shirin 1892, and it completely transformed my experience. I can honestly say I enjoyed Nuwara Eliya more than ever before and Shirin 1892 was a big reason why. The property felt like a dreamy, cozy home from the moment we arrived. The rooms were beautifully done, comfortable, and clean. What stood out to me the most was how well-maintained the bathrooms were something I always look for in a good stay. Interestingly, it wasn’t too cold outside, but inside the property, it was pleasantly chilly adding to that perfect "hill station" charm, which I absolutely loved. We had booked all three rooms, so we enjoyed complete freedom and privacy as a family. The calm, peaceful vibe of the place was simply unmatched. The surrounding views were breathtaking, and the garden was lovely ideal for a quiet stroll or a cup of tea in the morning. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Mr. Asela for his warm hospitality and for maintaining such a special property. A special shoutout to his wonderful wife, who welcomed us on day one with the warmest smile and carried that same kindness throughout our stay. She made us tea whenever we asked and prepared a delightful breakfast each morning simple gestures that meant so much. I’m also deeply grateful to Anura Uncle, who picked us up from Nanuoya railway station and kindly drove us to several places the next day, making our trip even more convenient and enjoyable. While some might see Shirin 1892 as an older property, I truly believe that’s part of its charm. In a world filled with flashy, newly built places, this one stands out with its cozy, antique feel because as they say, old is gold. We stayed from the 8th May to the 10th May, and it was a stay I’ll always remember.

The rooms were nice. The breakfast was decent and the owner was very cooperative. The location is in close proximity to restaurants like pizza hut and dominos as well as a super shop named keels.

The lodge is situated a bit close to 100 meters downward a slope from the main road. The owner has a dog that roams around the property has a tendency to attack if gotten close to. One of our members got bitten by the dog because she got a bit close to the dog for capturing a photo.

Un super accueil, l’endroit est assez sympa et c’est vraiment la maison coloniale. Il faut venir quand il ne pleut pas. Le petit déjeuner est bon.

Le sol est en moquette, il avait plu la veille et l’eau a du rentrer dans la maison car elle était encore mouillée devant le lit, ce qui donne une odeur pertinente de moisi.

L'atmosfera della casa, ma soprattutto il proprietario che ci ha accolto con estrema cortesia. Ci ha permesso di cenare col nostro driver nel bellissimo soggiorno, con tanto di cammino acceso. La colazione è ottima, le camere e tutta la casa pulite. Non ultimo un bel giardino.
