Dear Rita, Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for these wonderful days ♥️ Your home is so much more than just a place to stay—it feels like a beautiful museum, filled with charm, elegance, and soul. Every vintage painting, every carefully chosen detail tells a story and creates such a warm atmosphere. And I have to mention my absolute favorite—the amazing large bathtub, which was the perfect place to relax after our unforgettable Tomorrowland days. But what touched us the most was you. Your kindness, generosity, and genuine care made us feel truly welcome. Every morning you prepared delicious and different breakfasts, always thinking about what we liked. It wasn’t just breakfast—it was your love and hospitality on a plate. You can feel that everything here was created with love, not as a business, but as a home that you genuinely care about. That love can be felt in every little detail, and it makes this place incredibly special. Thank you for surrounding us with such warmth and kindness. Staying here felt like visiting someone who truly cared about us, and that’s something we will never forget. We already know that we would love to come back one day. De kamer, badkamer en het terras waren erg netjes. Alles wat je nodig hebt was aanwezig. Rita is een ontzettend lieve vrouw. Ze legt je helemaal in de watten en zorgt dat je niks te kort komt. We hebben genoten.

Heerlijk ontbijt, super lieve gastvrouw. Ze laat je meteen welkom voelen. Mooie locatie, heerlijke bedden. We zijn verwend!

Zeer hartelijke ontvangst en gastvrouw Rita legt je echt in de watten, ook met leuke extra's.. Als Mechelen nog eens op de planning staat, gaan we,zeker terug.

Es ist WUNDERSCHÖN dort! Die Dame des Hauses ist wortwörtlich ein lachender Engel. Ich weiß garnicht wo ich anfangen und wo ich aufhören soll. Es war einfach eine 11/10. An alle die überlegen: MACHT ES!

Die Verkehrslage ist sehr beirrend und ich habe einen Bußgeldbescheid bekommen weil ich die Straße vor dem Hotel langgefahren bin. Seid also vorsichtig und beobachtet die Schilder haargenau!! (Bei mir war es Durchfahrt für jedermann in beide Richtungen verboten)

Rita was the perfect host and lovely. Our room and bathroom were amazing, as was the breakfast each morning. We can’t fault anything.

De sfeer, het ontvangst, Rita is een prima gastvrouw die ook veel uitleg geeft ... Warm welkom en kleine extra's in de kamer ... Ligging van de B&B

Het enige nadeel dat je zou kunnen vinden is dat je voor naar de badkamer en het toilet te gaan over de gang moet ...een badjes ter beschikking zou dan misschien wel handig zijn ...

Spectacular rooms, comfortable sitting areas, a hostess that went the extra mile to make me feel comfortable and welcome. Breakfasts were wonderful! I felt very spoiled! Thank you!

de kwaliteit van een B&B is niet in de eerste plaats de optelsom van alle faciliteiten, maar de gastvrijheid van de eigenaar. In het geval van de Lachende Engel was dit laatste uitzonderlijk: warm, gemeend, hartelijk, behulpzaam. Maar ook het eerste (de faciliteiten) was prima in orde: gezellig, warm, met smaak en stijlvol ingericht, maar ook gedegen: goede bedden, prachtige badkamer, heerlijk ontbijt: alles om van een verblijf in een B&B een zalige tijd te maken.

De gastvrouw is bijzonder vriendelijk, en heeft veel tips. We hebben genoten van een fantastisch bourgondisch ontbijt. De locatie is tegen het centrum aan, alles is op loopafstand. De ambiance is onovertroffen, en we hebben toch al veel gezien van de wereld. Maar ze stijlvol en met vakmanschap doorgevoerd zie je nergens.

Rita de eigenaresse je wordt in de watten gelegd koelkastje gevuld met Cava, frisdrank kleine tapas en alles inclusief. En dan het zeer uitgebreide ontbijt te veel om op te noemen alles vers. Ze geeft je heel veel informatie over de stad Mechelen.

Struttura di charme, colazione ricca ed eccellente, la padrona di casa Rita e'una persona veramente simpatica ed accogliente, con un eccezzionale cura del dettaglio, dall'aperitivo di benvenuto ai cioccolatini per il caffe', grazie di tutto Rita! sicuramente avremo modo di rivederci

il soggiorno e'stato troppo breve!

Het was ons een waar genoegen om bij Rita te gast te mogen zijn. De manier waarop zij ons wegwijs maakte, de enorme gastvrijheid waarmee we ontvangen werden en de positiviteit waarmee Rita in het leven staat, was voor ons echt een meerwaarde. 's Avonds konden we ook gratis genieten van een fles cava, een biertje, frisdrank, een koffie of thee in onze persoonlijke livingruimte naast de kamer, telkens met aangepaste hapjes.

Niks viel ons tegen.

A very nice and cozy B&B located nearby the city center and central station. Every detail is so thoughtful and all is well-organized. Especially the breakfast by the super cute owner is remarkable. We stayed for 3 nights and can comfortably recommend the place.

The Host Rita was absolutely amazing! Unfortunately during our stay I ended up in hospital.. She came to the hospital with fresh clothes for me and made sure I was ok. She was amazing and such a good host.

Fabulous B&B very conveniently located for the railway station and old town of Mechelen, extremely comfortable, clean and has bucket loads of character. The owner Rita was exceptionally helpful, organised and did her best to look after me. She made me wonderful breakfasts which set me up for the rest of the day! I loved my stay at De Lachende Engel and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it.

Nothing. The only thing I would suggest to be aware of is that being an historic (but beautiful) house, the stairs are narrow and quite steep, there are also a couple steps to enter the B&B, so it may not be entirely suitable for travellers with mobility issues. Rita very kindly offered to carry my bags up and down the stairs, and there are plenty of lights, including actually on the stairs so they are very clear and well lit.

We had a very comfortable stay in the room on the second floor with the extra living space. Rita is a very welcoming and helpful host and provided wonderful breakfasts. The B&B is conveniently located half way between the railway station and the centre.

Stylish, spacious stay with very friendly host. All for good value for money.

Amazing Place Rita is very polite, treated me very well and the house is very clean and organized

The house is full of purposely placed objects. Several mirrors were placed to reflect more light. A better and more varied breakfast is almost unthinkable.

The location was great for walking around the city. The host Rita was extremely helpful and generous, she provided everything we needed plus extras like packed lunch and free drinks. We had the second floor which was a large, comfortable lounge and bedroom next-door. Both rooms had air conditioning.

Sorry but I didn't like the bathroom being in the bedroom.

Apart from the good location, museum like interior with so many fun details, cosy atmosphere, well furnished room, the ample facilities and amenities in both bedroom and bathroom, soft bed & large bathroom... what I liked most about De Lachende Engel was the owner. Thumbs up for Rita, as she did a superb job at making me feel welcome and comfortable (even before arriving!) for what was my first solo trip AND first ever stay in a b&b. By the small changes during my stay I could see that she listens to what you (un)intentionally say about your experience in her b&b and strives to meet your wishes and exceed your expectations. Like when I did not want to go out for dinner on my second evening and texted her if I could have some of her (breakfast) sandwiches instead. No problem whatsoever she said, and I found the table all set in the kitchen upon my return in the evening. Or when I remarked that my room (simply by its location and the lovely colour palette) is a bit dark also during the day. Next time I came back she had opened wide all curtains to let as much natural light stream in as possible. So what stands out to me most is Rita, who is a wonderful host and will make your stay as perfect as it can possibly get.

Can't think of anything that's worth writing down as a negative.

I liked the vibe of this place and the location. But the most of all, I liked the hospitality we received from Rita! What an amazing host.

It was hard to leave.

I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my stay. First, the location is excellent; just a 10-minute walk from the train station and about the same to the market square. Also, Mechelen is about a 15-minute train ride to Antwerp and not far from Lier and Ghent so it makes it convenient to use as a home base. The entire house is beautifully furnished along with rare items such as stained-glass windows. My room was great with the bonus of a large adjacent room I had for my own use with a stunning hand-painted desk, sofa, and all the amenities including a mini-fridge stocked with soft drinks and excellent local Belgian beer, plus treats such as chocolate and nuts left for me every day. I spent time relaxing there every evening as I made my plans for the next day. As nice as the house is, the key to the stay is Rita, the charming owner, who is the friendliest and most energetic person I met on my entire trip. I looked forward to not only the huge breakfast each day but spending time talking with her during the meal. I will definitely return. Highly recommended.

Had a wonderful stay here. The room was huge and so cosy, with lots of beautiful things to admire. The washroom and outdoor patio was the same, I only wish I'd had more time to enjoy. The breakfast was personalised and also very generous with options for all diets and even the chance to take some food with me for the day. Would highly recommend a stay here.
