Petit Ermitage

The beautiful room which was a little studio was better than what we expected, very clean with a very comfortable bed. Perfect and safe location, walkable to shops and restaurants. James was very responsive and helpful in every way. And Pat very friendly and cooked us a very delicious breakfast. We can highly recommend this little gem and wouldn't hesitate a second to stay there again.

Breakfast from Norma was amazing, the best we had in our 4 week trip. Whole separate part of the house with comfortable accommodation. Great host, who helped us with general advice and places to visit. Nice little bar a few steps away for a late night drink and lovely walkable town of Franschoek on your doorstep, with great restaurants.

Die Unterkunft war sehr sauber und gepflegt. Das Frühstück war hervorragend – frisch nach Bestellung von der freundlichen Norma zubereitet. Besonders schön war der private Garten mit Pool, der zum Entspannen einlädt. James war jederzeit super freundlich, äußerst hilfsbereit und immer ansprechbar. Die Lage war unschlagbar, quasi mittendrin und dennoch ruhig gelegen. Wir haben uns rundum wohlgefühlt und kommen gerne wieder.

James was very helpful before and during our stay. The apartment was spacious and very comfortable with everything you might need, and a great breakfast. We really enjoyed using the pool, and the location is great - just a couple minutes to the restaurants. Private parking always a plus!

What an absolute pleasure! James was the most gracious and helpful host. He recommended wine estates which we both enjoyed and a restaurant for dinner which was excellent. Absolutely going above and beyond. The breakfast started coming and just never ended, an honest mountain of food which was incredibly delicious. Would definitely highly recommend Petit Ermitage. We were greeted by James and he then gave us a lift to the wine tram as we were running a little late, very considerate! It was comfortable accommodation and beautifully clean with everything that you could want for an excellent stay. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast and service was friendly and efficient.

Unser Aufenthalt in der Annex/Petit Ermitage war perfekt. James, der Gastgeber empfing uns und versorgte uns mit prima Empfehlungen für Weingüter und Restaurants. Das Apartment war geschmackvoll und liebevoll ausgestattet, am Pool konnten wir erholsam ein paar Stunden verbringen. Die Lage war optimal, nur wenige Schritte von der „Hauptstraße“ entfernt und damit waren viele Restaurants und Geschäfte per Fuß zu erreichen. Ein weiteres Highlight war das Frühstück, von Norma frisch zubereitet und serviert.

Es war ein außergewöhnlicher Aufenthalt in Franschhoek. Le Petit Ermitage ist eine absolute Wohlfühloase – großzügig geschnitten, modern eingerichtet, blitzsauber und mit allem ausgestattet, was man sich wünschen kann. Der private Pool im eigenen Garten rundet einen perfekten Tag noch ab. Die Lage ist perfekt: ruhig und dennoch so zentral, dass man die Stadt bequem zu Fuß erkunden, eine Fahrradtour starten oder direkt in die Wine Tram einsteigen kann. Unser Highlight war übrigens eine Mountainbike-Tour in Kombination mit verschiedenen Wine-Tastings. :) James ist ein unglaublich freundlicher und aufmerksamer Gastgeber, der sich mit viel Leidenschaft um seine Gäste kümmert. Auch das Frühstück war jeden Morgen ein Highlight – frisch, liebevoll zubereitet und einfach köstlich. Ein großes Dankeschön an Noma!! Unser Aufenthalt war von Anfang bis Ende fantastisch. Wir haben uns rundum wohlgefühlt und können Le Petit Ermitage uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.

Elegant, well equipped, spacious apartment. Five minutes walk from great range of restaurants and shops, and easy walking distance to wine tram . Very safe and quiet area. Comfortable bed and powerful shower . James is an exemplary host. Great communication before and during our stay . Couldn’t do enough to help us with recommendations for restaurants and things to do. Always available but never intrusive. Delicious breakfasts cooked to order by Norma who also did our laundry which we really appreciated.Norma is a lovely lady, gracious and she looked after us so well . She and James are a great team! Lovely private pool and garden. Looking forward to staying here again when we’re next in Franschhoek , and seeing James’s new extension and renovation- with his attention to detail and good taste we’re sure it will be fantastic. Vielen Dank an James für diesen wunderbaren Aufenthalt und die ausgezeichnete Unterkunft. Wir hatten eine super Zeit in Franschoek. Die Unterkunft ist super, groß, modern, sauber und top ausgestattet mit einer super Lage. James ist als Host so liebenswert und hilfsbereit. Das Frühstück war ausgezeichnet und ist wirklich sehr zu empfehlen. Ein großer Dank an Noma für dieses Frühstück. Es wurde von Noma sogar unsere Wäsche gewaschen ohne Kosten (wir haben Trinkgeld gegeben). Die Lage ist sehr gut und man erreicht die Stadt leicht zu Fuß, kann mit dem Fahrrad fahren oder von dort auch die WineTram nehmen. Es war wirklich ein sensationeller Aufenthalt und wir können es weiterempfehlen.

De eigenaar James is een ontzettende vriendelijke gastheer. Tijd voor een praatje en wat goede tips in de buurt. Het appartement/huis is schoon en van alle gemakken voorzien. Het ontbijt wordt verzorgd door Norma. Ook heel vriendelijk, zonnetje in huis. Het ontbijt is heel uitgebreid en ontzettend lekker. We hebben genoten van Franschhoek. Dankjewel James.

Fantastic place to stay. Good location- central to all art galleries, restaurants, market, 15 min walking from Wine tram station. Very comfortable warm bed, cozy rooms and beautiful garden with pool. James is very friendly host, he made the best fresh fruit salad and gave good tips for our wine tram tour. Breakfast was exceptionally delicious and freshly made. Would stay again in future!

Wir wurden von James sehr herzlich in Empfang genommen. Auch für Tipps zu Franschhoek und Umgebung stand der Gastgeber bereits vor Beginn der Reise zur Verfügung. Norma ist ebenfalls sehr nett und zaubert ein köstliches, individuelles Frühstück. Die Unterkunft ist äußerst sauber, geräumig und bietet alles, was man für einen kurzen Aufenthalt benötigt. Dank Heizstrahler und -decke mussten wir auch im südafrikanischen Winter nicht frieren. Die Lage des Petit Ermitage könnte nicht besser sein: sämtliche Restaurants, Geschäfte und auch der Startpunkt der Wine Tram sind fußläufig zu erreichen. Wir können James' Unterkunft nur wärmstens weiterempfehlen.

Wat een prachtige B&B! Leuk en zeer volledig ingericht met een aparte woonkamer. Echt alles erop en eraan. James was een geweldige gastheer die met alles meedacht en wilde helpen. Het heerlijke ontbijt werd gemaakt en geserveerd door Norma, wat echt buitengewoon lekker was. De B&B is zeer gunstig gelegen nabij het centrum op korte loopafstand van goede restaurants en leuke winkeltjes. Franschhoek als plaatsje heeft ons enorm verrast.

James and Norma were the perfect hosts. Great communication pre to arrival meant we were organised for very busy weekend. Free laundry service was a bonus. Great location, secure parking, and very tasteful interior design.

Location, host, cleanliness, facilities

As per other reviews the location is superb. We were extremely comfortable here. The quality of the accommodation including the bedding was to be commended. We so enjoyed the freedom we had to use the lovely pool and garden and come and go as we pleased. The owner, James, and his assistant Norma helped us to feel very relaxed and welcome. We were trusted to enjoy the facilities using our own common sense without the need for "do not" notices all over the place, which was very refreshing for me and helped to make the stay. Thanks so much to Norma who set up a braii in the garden on our first evening so that we could enjoy some locally bought steak. We enjoyed our stay so much that I tried to book again for next year but it seems to not be available for our dates.

The Petit Ermitage is a cosy apartment in the heart of Franschhoek with an extraordinarily welcoming host, James and his wonderful staff member, Norma. The place is spotless clean and it has absolutely everything you could think of, from toiletries, coffee and honesty bar to table games, TV, a swimming pool for your own use and safe parking behind a gate. The breakfast is served from 08:00 on and you can select from a broad menu. Norma prepares it with care and it was simply fantastic! They were also so kind to take care of our laundry within less than one day. And of course James … this man is full of life, his good mood and positive energy is contagious. Such a friendly and open person!! James gave us excellent tips for restaurants and wineries (just have a look at his website) and he is reachable via Whatsapp. Thank you James for your generosity and for welcoming us at your place. Very kind attentive host and we had a delicious breakfast. The room is Easily accessible to both the wine tram and the town. The pool was lovely to relax in after a day in the vineyards 😊

I cannot recommend Petit Ermitage highly enough! The attention to detail here is truly exceptional. The space is beautifully furnished, with thoughtful touches that cater to every need during your stay. Everything is immaculate and exudes luxury. I particularly appreciated the small conveniences, like the UK to SA plug that James thoughtfully provided—it was a lifesaver! James himself went above and beyond; not only was he incredibly welcoming, but he also graciously helped me reverse my car out of his driveway. His kindness and professionalism truly set this place apart. The breakfast was beautifully served outside with white linen napkin , fine porcelain and delicious wholesome food ! If you're looking for a remarkable experience, look no further than Petit Ermitage—it's a gem!

James makes sure everything is perfect. There is nothing that has not been thought of. The facilities are excellent. It's suitable for long stays. There is a corner to work and I used the high tech TV as a screen. The breakfast is amazing, thank you Norma. The pool area is fantastic. We spent a lot of time watching the birds in the tropical garden around the pool.

I cannot think of anything that can possibly be improved.

Amazing place to stay in Franschhoek! James was a great host and made our stay very enjoyable.

Really exceptional accomodation, James, the host is unbelievable friendly and helpful and a pleasure to talk to. The flat (it’s a flat rather than a room) is spacious and clean, there’s a privat wine bar and wine fridge, even a small kitchen and even a private pool. Breakfast is incredible! It’s very close to all the restaurants and shops. We’ve been to a lot of Guesthouses in recent years, but this is by far the best!

There’s literally nothing to complain about

Fantastic living room / bedroom apartment with private access to parking space and swimming pool. Great location close the main street but beautifully quiet. The host was very welcoming.

I can’t recommend staying here enough! We had the most incredible time. James is the absolute best host we have ever had. He was so kind and generous with his time. The room was very clean, the bed sheets smelled so clean and fresh. The breakfast provided was also top notch. I will definitely be staying here the next time I’m back in Franchoek. I was very appreciative of all of James’ recommendations on what to do while in town.

Wow, this place is amazing! James is a great host, he gave us a lot of tips and made sure that we were feeling comfortable at the B&B. They have a lovely breakfast which is served in the apartment. The apartment is spacious, nicely furnished and clean and there is a pool in the backyard where you can relax after a day on the Winetram. We really can recommend staying at James place.

Everything about Petit Ermitage was perfect for our stay. It is ideally located close to the restaurants and shops in Franschhoek, with no safety concerns even walking back after dark. James was the consummate host, contacting us before our stay to offer advice and recommendations, then meeting us on arrival. He also dropped in occasionally to check everything was going well for us. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, with a very comfortable bed and strong shower (both important to us). It is well-appointed with everything you could need including a stocked wine rack and fridge containing miniatures, mixers and beer. We spent an afternoon by the pool, which is clean, well maintained and had the most comfortable loungers we have ever used. We had a lovely breakfast provided by Norma; it was our favourite of the whole holiday trip. The fruit bowl was delicious, (thick) freshly squeezed orange juice and a selection of local sausages to choose from. This is a five-star review for Petit Ermitage, and we would definitely recommend staying if you are in the area.

James is an excellent host, he went above and beyond to cater to a dietary requirement when it came to our breakfast - it was also delicious! The accommodation has everything you need and more. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool and loungers and being in close proximity to town. We had an excellent time and hope to visit again soon.

The host communicated clearly a couple of days before my stay on potential problems on the route. He was there when I arrived and left. He gave good advice about the town and surrounds. I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh fruit salad at breakfast.
