I thought some of the furniture needed a re-fresh or steam clean - perhaps even switch around the 2 light colored sofa's so that the cleaner sofa is evident on first impression.

Reviewed May 19, 2026Sheperd Lodge hat uns rundum gefallen. Das Frühstück war super, alles wurde speziell sogar nach Wunsch eingekauft und frisch zubereitet. Die Lage war für uns perfekt (ganz nah an Pretoria, Johannesburg und Hartebeespoortdam), es war ruhig, der Garten wunderschön, wir konnten sehr bequem und sicher mit Uber überall hin, wo wir wollten. Unsere Gastgeberin Penny war herzlich und sehr hilfsbereit, das Personal ebenso.

Reviewed Nov 23, 2025The house is beautiful and landscaping is breathtaking, comforting, and relaxing. Breakfast is served on back patio where you can take in the beautiful setting and provides a relaxing setting for a great breakfast made to order. We couldn't ask for more. The property is also well secured with double drive through gates and security cameras which made us feel completely safe. The location is comfortably situated between Johannesburg and Pretoria providing easy access to both.
There's nothing we can think of that we didn't like. It was a lovely stay and the owners were a pleasure to talk with.

I can not fault anything, everything was perfect. I loved the vintage aesthetics, game boards, my room had a view of the garden. Penny made sure we are comfortable and we got everything we needed whenever. The pictures aren’t doing any justice. It was serene , just what I needed to escape the city life. I got back home relaxed and rejuvenated and ready to take the world. It was a perfect staycation destination. For someone like me who likes creating content, I have content for days lol. I am definitely coming back for more days 😍

A larger sized bed would have been better, as my partner and I were rather squashed together. We also could not figure out if the accommodation provided access to free-to-air TV channels + the remote control did not work properly. Block-out curtains would also have added to the comfort factor

I left having made a new friend! The location is ideal and I will be regular. The breakfast hit the spot after days on the road. Felt like my mother tending to me when I was young. Reviewed Aug 1, 2023Firstly the location is everything. Never thought there'd be such a calm, peaceful, serene piece of land in the middle of Bryanston. You have to be there to believe it. We were treated to an upgrade of the room we booked and also had a delicious, filling breakfast. They have streaming services for entertainment and electric blankets for the cold winter. Penny was a great host as well and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. In the cold morning we found that she'd lit up the fireplace by the breakfast table. Amazing establishment. Sitting on the balcony and listening to trees whispering I'm the wind was so calming. It's a really serene place.

Every morning starts with super made to order English breakfast by the heartwarming and ultra friendly people running the place. What's also convenient is that they have both solar and a generator so no worries about loadshedding here! Thanks Joe, Jackie, Janet, Bruce and others. I will return (soon!) Stayed here 4 nights extended with 2.
