The best hostel I’ve stayed at! Tierra Alta is, without a doubt, the best hostel with dormitory-style accommodation I have ever stayed in. The location is excellent — just a 5-minute walk from the town centre, which makes it very convenient for exploring San Cristóbal. The staff are incredibly kind, welcoming and always available to help. The cleanliness is impeccable, and I would especially like to highlight the bathrooms and showers, which were spotless and very well maintained. The hostel itself is a beautiful old house that has been lovingly restored with great taste. I particularly loved the way they have preserved its character while filling the spaces with beautiful plants, creating a very welcoming and peaceful atmosphere. But what really made my stay special was the kindness and care of the staff. I missed my bus from Juchitán to San Cristóbal and had to wait for the next one, which meant I wouldn’t arrive until very late at night. I called the hostel to let them know, and they were incredibly understanding and kept checking on me until I finally arrived at almost 2 a.m. A very special thank you to José, who stayed attentive and made sure everything was okay until I arrived. That level of care and hospitality is something I truly appreciated. I highly recommend Tierra Alta. A beautiful place, wonderful staff and exceptional hospitality. I would definitely stay here again! ❤️

Heel fijne locatie en heel vriendelijk personeel. Het was ook erg schoon en rustig.

We hadden een privé kamer met tweepersoonsbed, dat was aan de kleine kant.

Tout était parfait, la gentillesse du personnel toujours attentionné, le confort et la propreté de la chambre et de la salle de bain. Je me suis sentie vraiment bien et comme chez moi dans cet hostel. Ils m’ont permis de faire un check in anticipé et un check out tardif, et gratuitement. J’ai également réservé un tour par l’hôtel pour aller au Cañon del Sumidero, c’était pas cher et super bien !

The staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The room and bathrooms was very clean and a good size. Bed was very comfortable. We loved the courtyard which all the rooms faced onto. It was a very quiet space and had a very relaxing chilled-out vibe. Only a 10-15 min walk to the main square. Overall, exceptional value for money.

La limpieza de todas las instalaciones. Los baños bien presentables, separados las tazas en un baño y las regaderas en otro baño y hay uno para hombres y otro para mujeres. La tranquilidad y la paz que se respira. Te ofrecen café en las mañanas. Tiene área de cocina y comedor. La decoración y las plantas en las terrazas. No parece Hostal, es un hotel del lujo.

Todo me gustó! Lo recomiendo ampliamente!!!

Super accueil, personnel très sympa, cuisine fonctionnelle, auberge toujours très propre et située à 2 pas du centre. De plus, il est facile de réserver les excursions pour visiter la région. Les tarifs, pour ma part, était plus bas que ceux vus sur internet. Je recommande fortement cette auberge.

Sehr freundlicher Gastgeber und super Personal. Sehr schöne Stimmung im Hostel. Man fühlt sich wie zu Hause. Bequeme Betten, warme Dusche und super ausgestattete Küche. Wir würden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen :)

サンクリで3軒泊まって、一番広くてきれいなホステルだったのはここ。他に比べて部屋が暖かい。 ホストのおじいちゃんが優しい。トイレとシャワーも十分あり、熱いお湯が出る。 朝に美味しいコーヒー淹れてくれてあり、紅茶やクッキーは常設。電子レンジあり、キッチン用具も揃っていた。飲料水は冷温両方出るタイプ。 セントロまで歩いて一直線10数分。

息子さんがチェックイン時に全く案内してくれず、他のゲストにキッチンなど聞いた。 部屋のベッドの中に入るとネットが不安定だった。 トイレのドアの鍵が扱いにくかった。 それでも総じてメリットの方が大きく、またサンクリに来たら泊まりたいと思う。 ホストのおじいちゃん、お元気でいてください。

Sem dúvida, o Tierra Alta Hostel foi o melhor hostel em que me hospedei em todo o México. O senhor José Luiz é uma pessoa extremamente simpática e muito atenciosa com os hóspedes. Ele chegou a me perguntar se eu havia passado frio, já que não estou acostumada com temperaturas mais baixas, pois moro no Brasil, onde faz calor o ano inteiro — achei esse cuidado um grande diferencial. A cozinha é muito limpa e bem equipada, com café e chá disponíveis à vontade durante todo o dia. As mesas para o café da manhã e para as refeições são grandes, limpas, modernas e muito bonitas. O pátio interno do hostel é maravilhoso e bem iluminado, pois recebe bastante luz natural. O quarto é limpo, espaçoso e tem janela. Os chuveiros são bem quentes, e o banheiro é extremamente limpo e organizado. Fiquei em um quarto compartilhado com banheiro externo, localizado no final do corredor (quarto nº 9, no térreo). A localização é excelente, há acesso por cartão eletrônico para entrar a qualquer horário, e o preço é muito justo. Sem dúvida, é um excelente custo-benefício. Recomendo fortemente!

Eu colocaria uma luz individual para cada cama além da tomada para carregar o celular que já existe.

El lugar es especial, se nota el amor y el cuidado en cada detalle. Hay distintos espacios donde pasar el rato y cada uno es cómodo y bello. Ademas cuenta con dispenser de agua fría y caliente, cocina, espacio de guardado, recepción 24hs, lavadero, estufas eléctricas, secador de pelo, mantas extras. El lugar se mantiene super limpio. Es un lujo la atención brindada por Jose Luis y el resto del personal. Sin dudas un 10/10, lo recomiendo y lo volvería a elegir!

Tout. L'hébergement est beau, propre, très très bien placé. Eau chaude. Vous trouverez tout ce qu'il faut dans la cuisine. L'hôte nous a permis de garder la chambre dans la journée pour nous faciliter notre départ (17h) sans aucune contrepartie.

Die Unterkunft ist sehr sauber. Ich habe noch nie so ein sauberes gemeinschaftliches Badezimmer gesehen. Es gab heißes Wasser in der Dusche und viel Wasserdruck. Auch der Besitzer ist sehr freundlich. Die Küche ist relativ groß und es gibt immer gratis Tee. Wir durften gratis Wäsche waschen.

Es ist relativ kalt, wenn man abends zur Toilette geht. Es gibt halt keine Heizung

El hostal es espectacular. Espacios amplios, cocina equipada y grande. Habitación cómoda. Muy limpio. Personal muy amable y servicial, gracias Jose Luis por la hospitalidad. Muy buena ubicación, a sólo 3 cuadras de la calle principal Real de Guadalupe

Wir hatten 4 super Tage im Tierra Alta Hostel. Die Lage ist gut, alles sehr sauber und die Zimmer einfach aber sehr schön. Die Hostelanlage selbst ist super cool gemacht. Ist gibt jede Menge Platz und Gemeinschaftsräume. Zudem ist das halboffene Konzept mit Innenhof besonders. Und der Höhepunkt: Wir waren über Heiligabend im Hostel und der Gastgeber hat gekocht und uns alle zum Essen eingeladen. Vielen Dank für alles.

El lugar es muy tranquilo y cómodo y tiene muy buena ubicación. Me sorprendió el mantenimiento diario y la limpieza.

This place is extraordinary and exceptional! It's inexplicably clean and the loving attention to how it's built is enthralling. There are so many amenities such as coffee and hot water and tea and good clean water to drink. Unlike other places that I have stayed, this place has great, hot water and Wi-Fi. The bathrooms and the facilities are super clean and there's lots of light everywhere. And there's lots of places to sit comfortably when you don't wanna be at Café somewhere. The staff was kind and the owner is a gem.

I'm traveling out of warm places, and San Cristobal itself kind of shocked me with its temperatures. It might be impossibly expensive to totally heat a spacious place like this, but it runs a little bit cool. I was happy for the sheets and thick fuzzy blankets.

The location, staff, facilities and cleanliness was amazing. The best shower I had in Mexico, super powerful and warm.

Really nice owner with great experience, has amazing advice for non touristy cenotes. Even has his webpage with many discounts and connections to other nice places in and around Valladolid. Beds are very comfy. Common areas are great for connecting. Mother of the owner makes incredible and local breakfast changing everyday. Towel is provided. Every dorm has its own bathroom. Scooter and bike rentals are available. Located only one block from the main square, supermarkets and local restaurants are 3 blocks away.

Personal muy simpática y atento, todo estaba muy limpio y la cocina muy funcional!! Además había varios equipamientos como una sala de lectura, lavadora, etc… y nos divertimos mucho con el billard y el ping-pong!!

Todo , cerca del centro , personal increíblemente amable y servicial en todo momento. Todo super limpio , totalmente nuevo, con cocina grande, comedor grande, respeto de horarios para descanso. La verdad que de los hostel los cuales estuve por México … este sin duda el mejor con mucha diferencia.

Δεν είχε πετσέτες και σαμπουάν/αφρόλουτρο στο ντουζ αλλά ήταν τόσο ωραία η διαμονή μου εκεί που δεν με ενόχλησε καθόλου.

Gran opción para hospedarte en este hostal, habitación cómodas, super limpias, las duchas siempre con agua caliente y una secadora . Áreas comunes con TV ,libros , la cocina muy bien equipada, muy acogedor sobre todo la tranquilidad. El ambiente es agradable . La ubicación cerca del andador guadalupe el más concurrido . El personal respetuoso . Te permiten dejar tus cosas después de tu check out. 💫

Un hostel ou on se sent comme à la maison. Le gérant et le staff sont d'une gentillesse et serviabilité incroyables, l'hôtel est propre et très agréable avec beaucoup d'espaces communs et une cuisine parfaitement équipée. Belles chambres également, bien isolées, un peu plus sombres au RDC. Calme, aucun bruit entre 23h et 7h. Pas d'activités organisées (en tout cas en octobre 2025) et il peut donc être un peu plus compliqué de rencontrer d'autres guests que dans d'autres hostels. Un tout grand merci pour votre accueil !

Extrem nette Familie die wirklich alles versuchen um dir/euch einen schönen Aufenthalt zu bescheren. Wir konnten früher einchecken und durften unsere Sachen sogar bis zur Abreise am Abend im Zimmer lassen. Man kann kostenlos Wäsche waschen, es gibt einen Pooltisch, man kann Tischtennis spielen. Die vielen Pflanzen kreieren eine sehr angenehme Atmosphäre. Die Küche ist sehr groß und hat alles was man braucht.

Es gibt nichts auszusetzen. Lediglich anzumerken ist, dass es für Alleinreisende nicht unbedingt geeignet ist, wenn man connecten will. Als Paar, Gruppe oder wenn man einfach mal abschalten möchte ist es aber der Perfekte Ort.

Very confortable,very good value for the price. I rested very well after 2 weeks of travelling.

Le personnel est adorable et très aidant. Les parties communes sont très mignonnes et on s'y sent super bien. Propreté irréprochable notamment les salles de bains et toilettes. Bien situé, très paisible, il faut marcher moins de 10 min pour être en plein centre et 20min pour le terminal ADO.

We loved it! Super clean, close to the center, hot water 24/7, fully equipped kitchen, great internet, excellent service and staff attention – 10 out of 10. We immediately felt at home. There's always coffee, tea, and cookies in the kitchen, and they let us check in early and check out a bit later. They even have ping pong! A wonderful place you'd want to come back to. Special thanks to the staff for their care and attention. 10/10

I throughly enjoyed my stay at this hostel. Jose was so helpful, allowed my to checkin early and checkout late. I extended my stay one more night just because of how good i felt. The facilities are also amazing. I would definetely come back again!

nicely decorated building, clean, use of kitchen, located near center, quiet, helpful owner, did bookings of tours and airport transfer for me. The cultural tour is recommendable.

This is absolutely the best hostel I have ever stayed in so far :) The place is so clean, comfy beds and the design of the house is just stunning. Always hot water, top clean bathrooms and shower. Wifi is really great!!! Wonderful connection. A great thing is you get a free coffee, tea, water, towel and you can make a laundry here as well. Edgard and Jose, who works here, they are amazing people. So helpful, always ready to give you an advice or recommendation. If you stay in San Cristobal, you definitely need to book this place ✨✨✨

En recepción se duermen como a las 10 pm y el hotel está cerrado 24/7, si regresas después de esa hora nadie te abrirá, si quieres una llave tienes que dejar $200 de depósito, de ahí en fuera todo excelente.

The location was just perfect and we were very pleased with the well equipped kitchen and the free coffee and tea. Everything is as clean as it can be and the owner is very attentive sweet and concerned with his guests well-being. We would definitely recommend staying at Tierra Alta!

The very welcoming atmosphere of this beautiful and very comfortable hostel is just amazing! Everything is so well taken care of and the staff Jose Luis and his son are so friendly and really caring for your well being. The cleanliness of the bathroom, the free use of the washing machine, the nice view on the roof overlooking the mountain area of San Cris. The kitchen is so well equiped and inviting to do your cooking, there is coffee and cookies and tea always available and a big fridge to store your stuff and spices you can use while preparing some food and the kitchen is super spacious and always clean! The hostal is a quiet heaven in a lovely side street of the more busy walking area. Staying in this hostel made my time in San Cristobal de las Casas a very memorable one. It was like being part of the family not a guest in a hostal. Thanks so much. Hope to visit again one day.

I absolutely love it! I felt so at home and everything was immaculate. Staff The staff were incredibly helpful with everything, and spoke english as well as spanish! Laundry I loved that I could do my own laundry with no restrictions. I have a lot of hand-wash clothing, including satins, wool, and jeans, and it was such a relief to be able to wash everything properly without any damage. Some places have made my clothes smaller, but not here! Showers The warm showers were a blessing after traveling for months without them. They were impeccably clean! I once went in after a lady with long dark hair, and though her hair was left in the shower, I didn’t mind because everything else was spotless. Normally, I would freak out if I found a strand of hair that wasn’t mine. Working Spaces You can work anywhere - on the terraces, in the living room, or the eating area. There are plugs everywhere: outside, on the floors, in the walls, both high and low. Plus, there are two WiFi connections. The only downside is that the WiFi can become a bit slow when the hostel is very busy. Entertainment The TV room has a smart TV, and the pool table can be converted into a ping pong table and another game table I don’t know the name of. Location The hostel is conveniently located, making it easy to explore the surrounding area. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and you can book plenty of tours with the hostel for a good price! Ambiance The atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming, perfect for unwinding after a long day of travel. Room Comfort The rooms are comfortable and clean, with cozy beds that ensure a good night’s sleep. Also the blankets are so soft! Food Options There are great food options available, and the kitchen facilities are well-maintained for those who prefer to cook their meals. Value for Money Considering all the amenities and the excellent service, this hostel provides great value for the price.

One day the warm water wasnt boiling hot and I like my showers to be around 48 degrees. Also I would assume those super soft blankets to the living room for extra comfort while watching movies.

We LOVED this place. Definitely the nicest place we stayed in Mexico, the rooms are very nice considering how cheap it is. The common area is beautiful and the staff is very helpful. Location is great, just a block away from the Main Street. The hotel also helped us with some tours, cheaper than if you get them somewhere else. Definitely recommend this place!
