Villa Camélia Boutique House

Beautiful house and vast, tranquil gardens with incredible plants and butterflies. This is such a special location and felt very different to anywhere else we stayed or visited on the island. The decoration inside the house is beautiful and filled with lots of interesting pieces. The breakfast was incredible (ample meat-free options, lots of different breads, a gorgeous homemade cake) and the staff we met were all very friendly and helpful. The location is close to a nice local restaurant and supermarkets (both easily walkable) and it was lovely just to sit out in the gardens, but worth noting the temperature is much colder than by the coast which we hadn't expected!

We'd chosen to book a more expensive room, as it was our final nights of the holiday. However the room we were given was one of the few that didn't have a garden view (it looked onto the gravel road and a big wall) and our 'patio' area with chairs etc was right beside a huge air conditioner vent, so it wasn't very appealing to sit out in! The room was quite dark and also smelled very damp inside, though they are clearly trying to deal with this because there were dehumidifiers, but it still wasn't great. Sadly we felt the room let down the rest of the experience.

Lovely grounds. Great swimming pool. Lovely Berta making breakfast and my kids double room was spacious and well appointed.

My wife and my room was small and stuffy, however, with only a tiny plugin air circulation unit and the smallest fridge I have ever seen.

The location was good, and the pool area and surrounding grounds were beautiful and relaxing. A bed in the room was very comfortable.

The biggest concern was food hygiene at breakfast: cheese, cold cuts and butter were left unrefrigerated at room temperature for almost three hours each morning, and some of the same items were served again on subsequent days. We saw the same piece of butter repeatedly, first with crumbs/dirt on it and later with what appeared to be mould, and we were also served orange juice that was sour, fizzy and even started fermenting. Dirty dishes were left on nearby tables until the end of breakfast service so you are eating surrounded by dirty plates. Sound insulation was extremely poor, we could clearly hear every footstep from the floor above as well as other guests’ conversations, which made the stay quite uncomfortable.

It's beautiful and unique but in need of some TLC both to the rooms and the garden. If you're looking for a quiet place to be this would be it. Easy access to trailheads. Close proximity to a shopping center. Fun family style dining for breakfast - a sweet way to connect with the other guests.

Just be aware there's not much to do in Camacha in the evenings. We didn't mind - Berta did prepare a dinner for the guests under the stars on our second night which was sweet. Just check prices with her before you order.

The room is bit small

Bertha, the cook, was super nice. We stayed two nights; on the first morning we had to wake up early to catch the sunrise at Pico de Arieiro, and she and her daughter prepared sandwiches and snacks for us that they left in the fridge the night prior. The second morning all the guests sat around a table for her homemade breakfast. Her peppermint cake is MINT! The vibes on the property were immaculate, super quiet and relaxing.

Finding the property can be tricky. It's on the left side of an Italian restaurant, through a gated fence.

I loved breakfast, and the garden was nice but there are buildings around so it's not very cosy. Pictures are not showing the other side on purpose.

We got smaller room then expected, and also I think they mix pictures on their booking profile so we paid more for a smaller room, bigger rooms are put for lower price, when we asked about it they said that the bigger rooms are called studio, which does't exists on their profile at all.

J’ai particulièrement apprécié le jardin, la piscine et l’accueil chaleureux. La décoration des chambres et de la réception est très agréable et soignée. Enfin, le calme qui règne dans l’établissement est vraiment appréciable. »

Het ontbijt was heel uitgebreid en met veel zorg bereidt. Personeel is supervriendelijk. Het interieur is bijzonder, het oude karakter van het huis is behouden, met gekke, leuke moderne details. De tuin is heerlijk met een lekker groot zwembad. Er staan veel parasols , die zijn wel nodig. Ik zag dat er extra beplanting is aangelegd, dat zal ook fijn zijn voor iets schaduw.

Eigenlijk niets, we hebben een heerlijk verblijf gehad al was het maar 1 nacht. Wij vonden de ligging niet bijzonder maar dat is ruim goed gemaakt zodra je het "domein" betreedt.

De locatie, de rust, het hele landgoed, de natuur, de schitterende tuin en het prachtige zwembad.

Eigenlijk helemaal niks!

You can tell that the house needs more care - the rooms smell very moldy, the walls are cracked, the knifes in the room were falling apart. We stayed for two nights and our second breakfast was the same stuff left over from the first one - even the orange juice went bad… Overall, it felt like there was a lack of money, but the place has a lot pf potentiL

Bylo to perfektní. Nádherné ubytování v Portugalském stylu. Úžasná zahrada, bazén a výborná snídaně. Majitelé byli úžasní. Nejkrásnější ubytování na Madeiře. A to máme velmi vysoké požadavky

O espaço super acolhedor e confortável. Tudo muito arrumado e o staff muito prestável . A massagem foi excepcional.

O pequeno almoço poderia ter mais variedade de produtos .

O que mais gostei foi o cuidado da Alberta no preparo diário do café da manhã com toda sua simpatia, dando toque de lar para o ambiente. Outro ponto positivo é a tranquilidade da pousada, excelente para quem quer relaxar.

Pontos de aprimoramento: a construção é bem antiga, logo, tem manutenção a desejar, como lâminas de madeira afundando, mal cheiro no banheiro, e nas áreas comuns (salas da casa) percebe-se a necessidade de uma limpeza melhor. De qualquer forma, recomendo o local.

Das Personal beim Frühstück war sehr freundlich.

Das Zimmer war meiner Einschätzung nach in keiner Weise De Luxe. Die Ausstattung war insgesamt sehr unpraktisch. Das Doppelbett war sehr schmal. Außer dem Personal beim Frühstück hat man in dem Hotel niemanden gesehen. Um den defekten Kühlschrank wurde sich nicht gekümmert

We really enjoyed our stay, the room was spacious and clean, the bed was massive and very comfortable. It was a pleasure to stay at such a beautiful location, would return any time.

As plantas e o jardim

O quarto era extremadamente pequeno, a casa de banho minúscula e sem privacidade, alguns detalhes de manutenção partidos, a qualidade do pequeno almoço era muito básica. Para entrar ao spa era preciso pagar mais 20€ p/p extra e dava para ficar somente 1 hora.

There was some charm to the property, especially the grounds and the quiet area. The only advantage was the proximity to the rental car return and airport.

We had high hopes for this place based on the reviews, but it ended the moment we arrived. There was no one to check us in, even though we arrived before the self-check in period (we did not have self check in instructions). The room was really hot and we were not able to adjust the temperature. The bed was not comfortable (especially the pillows). The breakfast was meh - we felt like we were eating it just to not be hungry but was not like our other stays in Madeira. Mostly, we were disappointed bc the booking said that a sauna was available and did not specify an extra charge (this was the reason we booked this place as our last stop in Madeira but traveling home). Turns out, the sauna costs an extra 20 euro per person, per hour! This was outrageous and was not clearly advertised. When we addressed the misadvertisement of the sauna and fees, the host still insisted on the cost. 40 euros for a couple for 1 hour of sauna felt outrageous, so we opted to go to a hotel and do a day pass to the spa instead.

Das melhores estadias de sempre. Superou as expectativas, foi muito melhor do que alguns hotéis de 5 e 4 estrelas onde já estive. Excelente espaço, staff muito atencioso e simpático, comida caseira e fresca, um belo sítio para descontrair, praticar yoga, sentir a natureza.

Très joli établissement à la décoration personnalisée et atypique, tout en couleur. Agréable salon commun et jolie chambre avec une literie confortable. Excellent petit déjeuner Et très gentille attention de la part de la personne de l'établissement qui nous a proposé de nous préparer le petit déjeuner dès 7h (et non 8h) car nous avions un vol matinal.

Nous avons fait plusieurs établissements à Madère, et le plus souvent des petites structures type Quinta. Il est vrai que celle-ci était de loin la plus chère (peut-être car proche de Funchal) sans comprendre pourquoi un tel prix était proposé au regard de ce que nous avons payé dans les autres établissements. Le rapport qualité prix reste à notre sens insuffisant. Bémol aussi sur le jardin avec une vue marquée par les lotissements alentours et jardin peu calme car gêné par le bruit très important de la ventilation de la piscine municipale qui est juste à côté. Globalement d'ailleurs le site autour de l'établissement n'est pas très agréable (zone commerciale de la petite ville) Enfin deux petites choses : - dommage de n'avoir personne pour accueillir même pour une arrivée à 18h30 - bouilloire en chambre certes mais thé payant (seule fois où cela était comme cela, dommage pour ce prix)

Everything about Villa Camelia Boutique House was absolutely wonderful. The location on the island is perfect — peaceful and away from the crowds, yet still close enough to the town and hiking trails. The space is incredibly generous and gives a real sense of privacy. Every single detail has been thoughtfully designed: the copper shower, striped towels and baskets, yoga mats — everything feels curated with love and style. The pool is amazing, and the whole place has such a beautiful atmosphere and soul. As someone who truly loves interiors, I appreciated every corner of this villa. The breakfasts were delicious, and Berta, who prepares them, is absolutely lovely. The entire staff was incredibly kind and welcoming — from the housekeeping team to the gardeners. The owner is also wonderful; you can really feel how much care and heart has gone into creating this place. It genuinely feels like home. Honestly, I’m almost afraid to leave such a glowing review because I definitely want to come back, and I hope this hidden gem never loses its charm.

Ontzettend uitgebreid ontbijt met een hele lieve hardwerkende dame die alles tot in de puntjes verzorgde. Mooie tuin en prachtig zwembad. Heerlijke regendouche en leuke inrichting van de kamer en het huis.

Wij hadden helaas een kamer waar geen raam open kon en alles erg naar vocht rook.

Außergewöhnliches, kleines Boutique Hotel, günstig aber versteckt gelegen und Dank der vorab erhaltenen Video Beschreibung gut zu finden. Die Chefin des Frühstücksbüffets Berta ist das Herz der Anlage.

Nothing special

The villa is very old, the pictures does not show that. The check in was done by non English speaker so it was hard to understand. No special view from the villa, especially not from all the rooms. We got the 1 room which is facing the back side of the villa and the parking way. The room and the shared area has a bad dusty and moldy smell as well as the bed itself. The breakfast area has only one long table shared with all the other guests, the table is not clean and full of ants. Would not recommend

Breakfast was good, would have appreciated fresh juice rather than from concentrate, I picked this hotel based on the high breakfast rating. Bertha (apologies if I have misspelled her name) was fantastic and very friendly. The location is gorgeous, we loved sitting out in the garden after hikes.

Our room (no. 2), had a bad smell from the toilets, the bathroom was also very cold and damp, with towels not drying properly and the walls looked on the verge of developing mould. It also looks to be damaging a lovely oil painting in the bathroom. The honesty bar, whilst a nice idea felt like very poor value, €4 for a beer I can get in the local shop for less than €2. If the prices were more aligned I would have happily used it, but opted to buy my own and bring them back to the hotel.

The breakfast was elaborate. Many types of coffee, teas, juices. Homemade coffee bread and other breads were available. There was always a tray of ripe cut fruits. There was a hot meal option: beans, eggs, sauteed veggies. The guests were friendly and the cook was delightful.

Enorm sfeervolle kamers en gebouw met veel aandacht voor de kleine details. Erg ruime badkamer. De honesty bar is een leuke extra. Het ontbijt is echt fenomenaal: veel keuze en een super vriendelijke gastvrouw die zorgt dat je niks tekort komt. Wij moesten da laatste ochtend vroeg vertrekken dus heeft ze een lunchpakket voor ons samengesteld. Top! Locatie ook heel goed om de Pico Aireiro te bezoeken bij zonsondergang.

De poort om naar buiten te gaan was nog op slot dus we moesten via de hoofdingang tegen de richting in eruit, dat zorgde voor wat stress.

Je dirais tout! Quelle magnifique villa! C’est un plaisir de découvrir tous les jolis détails de la villa, c’est une oeuvre d’art! On se croirait dans un musée! Le jardin est incroyable aussi, tout est super bien pensé jusqu’au moindre petit détail. Je n’ai jamais vu ça auparavant. Un gros clin d’oeil à Bertha qui nous a acceuilli tellement chaleureusement, et avec énormément de bienveillance. Le petit déjeuner qu’elle prépare est le meilleur qu’on ait eu de tout notre séjour et de loin! Une très belle rencontre, c’est une belle personne qui est au petit soin, tellement gentille et généreuse. Elle nous manque déjà. Quand on reviendra à Madère on ira la voir c’est sûr! Elle nous a même préparé un petit sac avec un petit déjeuner car on avait un check out très tôt le dernier jour. Ce séjour restera gravé dans nos mémoires!

Het personeel was meer dan gastvrij. Zowel bij de check-in als bij het ontbijt voelden wij ons gelijk thuis en op ons gemak. De dame bij het ontbijt was enorm lief, zorgde erg goed voor ons en gaf ons zelfs wat zelfgebakken cake mee voor tijdens de hike en de terugreis. Zo zorgzaam en zo vriendelijk, een absolute 10!

Op de kamers was de luchtvochtigheidsgraad erg hoog.
