The Black Lion Pub & Boutique Guesthouse

My son and I were looking for a unique place to stay in London and we found it at the Black Lion Pub. The bar downstairs had an amazing old-world ambiance and a great selection of beers on tap. The hotel was quite close to the trains going downtown London. There were plenty of restaurants nearby of various ethnicity. And plenty of pubs to do a pub crawl. The breakfast in the morning was very good!

The one downside that I saw was that with plenty of luggage for a multi-week Europe trip, there was no elevator. And we were put on the top floor. We did get help with the luggage going up to the room which was very helpful.

Everything, friendly, clean and love the oldie worldie decor. Even the continental breakfast was delicious. Brilliant aircon.

Very friendly staff. Lovely looking pub & rooms. Good selection at breakfast and the bar snacks we had were superb! We were heading to Wembley Stadium and this was a great location.

The only negative was the main road was very busy and noisy outside our room on the first night. This was less of an issue on the second night, but it could be worth requesting a quiter room if you are a light sleeper.

Gorgeous room, and a warm welcome. The room was spacious with very clean. Very central and easy to find. We had a few drinks in the bar snd some delicious bar snacks.

Cleanest, accommodation in all of London,excellent location. Five mins from tube and trains. Lovely staff couldnt be more helpful. Would definitely recommend it.

The building has a beautiful Victorian era style which I loved, the breakfast is simple but very good, the staff are all kind and greet you with a smile, the room we stayed in was very small but was enough for the 2 nights we spent there and had great AC. The location is very convenient as it’s close to the station and bus stops and it also has a cute park behind it, the street is quite lively at night too so it feels quite safe.

Breakfast started quite late, I needed to be up and out earlier really.

Everything was immaculate and lovely continental breakfast too. Staff were very friendly and the rooms were well equipped with ac in the hot weather a bonus! Loved the feel and look of the rooms. Free bottles of water.

The road outside was noisy but not the hotels fault.

We kozen voor dit verblijf om een concert bij te wonen in Wembley Stadium. Het hotel is prima gelegen, kort bij zowel een London Overground als een London Underground station. Dit maakt dat er een goede verbinding is, zowel met Wembley Stadium als met het centrum van Londen. Het verblijf zelf is prima en maakt deel uit van een combinatie pub/hotel in een historisch pand. Wij hadden een grote kamer met veel ruimtegevoel door de vele ramen. De kamer was smaakvol en praktisch ingericht in een gezellige stijl. De badkamer was ruim met een wastafel, douche en toilet. Alles was kraaknet. Het ontbijt was uitgebreid met lekkere producten. Een groot pluspunt was het aanbod vers fruit. Er is voldoende keus en zeker voor iedereen wat wils.

De buurt waarin het hotel gelegen is, is wat vuiler en kan door sommige mensen als onveiliger aangevoeld worden. Wij hebben ons echter op geen enkel moment onveilig gevoeld.

Everything! The room was excellent with an exceptionally comfy bed. It was evident that the rooms had been fully refurbished in the last 3 years and were well presented. Breakfast was excellent. A continental breakfast was provided with a good choice of eggs, cheese, meat, fruit and pastries along with juices and yogurt. We had the Sunday Roast on the day we arrived, which was fantastic for £20. T. The owners are the standard menu choice was also good. The pub is amazing and full of character and the owners are to be commended on what they have done to improve it. We will definitely stay here again.

The neighborhood was a little uncomfortable. We didn’t feel entirely safe walking in the evening.

Be prepared for lots of stairs to your room.

The location was quite good for attending Wembley, so long as you're comfortable walking a bit from the tube station or taking the local train, both of which were easy to access and convenient for us. The neighborhood is very alive and enjoyably multicultural. :D Easy to find other places to grab a bite, coffee, or anything you forgot to bring. A couple of fruit markets and outdoor vendors along the walk to any of the tube or bus options as well. The Inn itself is so lovely. They've restored it quite nicely and the front desk staff were all so polite and welcoming! The a/c was a godsend in the middle of the heatwave, and the room definitely large for London. You actually have room to exist instead of kind of squeeze in and sleep. XD

The hours of check in are a little unclear between Booking and their personal website. With the heat affecting GWR train times, it would be really helpful if staff were more responsive to phone/text when their guests reach out with concerns regarding whether they'll be able to enter their accommodations. Obviously, the trains aren't their responsibility (so this didn't affect their score, or our experience once we arrived), it was just another layer of stress that we couldn't get in touch with anyone while it was happening and therefore didn't know if we'd be able to access the room, as they do not staff overnight.

It was perfect!

The room and ensuite were beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. The room was air conditioned which was very welcome during the heatwave! There was no noise from outside, or from other rooms so we slept very well and were completely undisturbed. I loved the Rituals complimentary toiletries! The staff were all amazing, polite and attentive. I really appreciated the time that the staff took to not only check us in, but they escorted us up to our room, showing us the facilities on the way, and making sure we knew how to access the building out of hours etc The continental breakfast was beautiful. All very nicely laid out and high quality fresh produce.

Das Pub, das Hotel war sauber.

Diese Unterkunft erfüllt das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis überhaupt nicht. Die Gegend ist heruntergekommen (siehe Fotos), das Black Lion liegt an einer Durchzugsstraße, die Anbindung durch Busse ist zwar gegeben, diese sind jedoch meist bummvoll und stecken über lange Strecken im Stau. Die U-Bahn ist zwar relativ nah, aber keine besonders günstige Linie. Das Zimmer, das wir zugewiesen bekamen, war so klein, dass man sich kaum umdrehen konnte, das Fenster ging auf einen schmutzigen Hof, aus dem Küchengerüche aufstiegen, sodass man das Fenster nicht öffnen konnte/wollte. Die Klimaanlage war direkt über dem Bett montiert und blies einen unmittelbar an, was unangenehm und laut war. Der Raum lag direkt neben dem Treppenaufgang und war sehr hellhörig, auch die Umgebung der Hotels war sehr laut. Das Zimmer glich in keiner Weise jenen Zimmern, die auf Booking gezeigt werden (siehe Fotos) und das Frühstück war wenig vertrauenseinflößend. Der Schinken war von äußerst seltsamer Farbe und im Hochsommer völlig ungekühlt. Der Käse war bereits um 7.30 vertrocknet und die Croissants schmeckten säuerlich. Es gab keine Cafémaschiene und der angebotene Filtercafé war so dünn, dass er absolut keinen Geschmack hatte. Aus persönlichen Gründen mussten wir unseren Aufenthalt in London leider nach einer Nacht wieder beenden und baten um ein Entgegenkommen. Es war nur das Barpersonal zu sprechen, das meinte es könne uns nicht helfen, man werde den Hotelmanager anrufen, erst nach mehrmaligem Nachfragen wurde uns ausgerichtet, dass wir mit niemanden sprechen können. Angeblich war den ganzen Tag niemand vor Ort, der für den Hotelbetrieb zuständig war. Das Black Lion meinte und helfen zu wollen, verwies uns letztlich an Booking, Booking sicherte uns Unterstützung zu, ließ uns jedoch kurz darauf wissen, dass die Unterkunft unserer Bitte nicht nachkommen würde. Die Unterkunft behauptete daraufhin neuerlich, sie könnten uns nicht helfen, Booking müsse unser Anliegen regeln.

Beautiful old pub converted into a boutique hotel. Lovely spacious room with character, very comfy beds, AC, a quirky and delightful bathroom, lovely staff and a nice breakfast.

Nothing except it was quite expensive but given Harry Styles was on at Wembley we expected that.

Cleanliness, rooms, attentive staff

For the price, a full cooked breakfast would have been preferable.

Spacious and well appointed room with a comfortable bed and excellent shower. We hadnt realised it would be air conditioned but this turned out to be a welcome feature over a hot period. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive whilst maintaining the relaxed atmosphere that we like in pub accomodation. The Sunday roast was perfect and the breakfasts were delicious. The location is well served by public transport with the Mildmay and Jubilee line a short walk away.

Der Pub ist superschön saniert, die Zimmer individuell gestaltet, Parkett im Schlafzimmer, schönes, geräumiges Bad. Sehr, sehr sauber! Das Frühstück war einfach, aber ausreichend. Das Personal sehr bemüht bei kleinen Sonderwünschen! Der Pub liegt einige Gehminuten von der Tube bzw zu diversen Bushaltestellen. Für uns ideal, da Wembley Stadion ohne Umsteigen erreichbar ist, aber auch andere Ziele gut erreichbar sind

Frühstück zwar ausreichend, aber weitere Brotsorten, mehr Käseauswahl oder Abwechslung wäre schön gewesen. Leider keine Kosmetiktücher im Bad, die haben wir auch in einfachen Unterkünften schon gehabt. Das Viertel ist multikulti und zum Teil nicht so im Schuss. Wir haben uns aber wohl und sicher gefühlt.

We loved being above the pub. It was lovely being able to have a pint before retiring to our room for the evening. The room, including the bathroom, was more spacious and accommodating than expected. Breakfast was fine - well attended by staff. We were initial concerned about the location, but happily able to catch a bus from just out front of the hotel. The train station, we discovered was only a couple of blocks, easily accessible.

The only drawback was the lack of a lift. We were traveling for many days and had heavy bags to lift up the (45) steps. Although we had help from one of the staff members, it was still an effort going up an down the steps, especially after a long day of sightseeing.

The hotel was stunning. The restored building had plenty of charm and our room was spacious and clean. The staff were phenomenal and accommodating, happy to help with any request.

A beautiful property with a high standard of decor and cleanliness. The interior of the building was lovely and the staff were excellent.

The way the TVs are attached to the walls means that the wires don’t fit into the TV properly, so you have to jiggle them about to stop pixelating

Our room was very spacious with comfortable mattress and good pillows. The bathroom was just beautiful, newly done. Loved the decorative touches in the room. The breakfast was very good with sourdough, yogurt, granola, fruit, good jams and quality butter, boiled eggs, ham, pastries and juices. No big fry but that didn't bother me. The bar downstairs is beautiful with a relaxing atmosphere

There is some traffic noise from the street, nothing extraordinary for London but just worth bearing in mind for anyone who is a light sleeper.

The room was lovely but the noise at night was not! The sink kept gurgling every hour, then a group staying at the hotel came in at 4am and were singing and drinking in the hallways. The food in the pub was great, but the breakfast was not worth it.

The staff was amazing, friendly and attentive. We enjoyed interacting with them. The complimentary bottled water was a fantastic treat. Access to both the bus and underground lines were easy to navigate with Google Maps. It was a quick ride to the city center from the Jubilee line. The breakfast was presented beautifully and tasted great. The shower was slow draining, but once informed, the staff acted quickly to resolve the issue. The building and its architecture gorgeous! The rooms were well appointed and extremely clean.

The stairs were a lot, but the staff helped us with our luggage. Would love additional area to store toiletries near the sink and in the shower, but overall, it was lovely. Our pub was definitely the nicest one in the area. We preferred going into the city or other neighborhoods to eat for lunch and dinner.

Das Personal wsr super nett und zuvorkommend. Die Zimmer sind individuell und mit Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet. Die Sauberkeit ließ keine Wünsche offen. In dem angeschlossenen, sehr schönen Pub haben wir unsere Erlebnisse vom Tag gerne nocheinmal Revue passieren lassen. Die Lage ist fußläufig zur Undergrund.

Wenn man länger als ein paar Nächte bleibt, könnte das Frühstück etwas abwechlungsreicher sein.

The room was spacious. The decor modern and tastefully done. Bathroom contained a good size bath with shower over . Beds were comfitabke and the room was nice and warm. I noted an aircondtioner unit on the wall for hot days in summer.

The breakfast was disappointing. A continental style breakfast. Was hoping to have a choice of a cooked breakfast but sad8ly not at this establishment. The menu in the pub was mainly indian food which was fast food and not particularly interesting. Pity because the staff were very friendly and accomodating.

Probably the cleanest hotel we’ve ever stayed in, rooms are immaculate and the beds and pillows are extremely comfortable. Gorgeous listed building, friendly & efficient staff. Would definitely stay here again.

The breakfast was good for cold continental, but would have been better to have a couple of hot options too and even a self service proper coffee machine rather than only filter available.

An exceptional find. The staff took the trouble to text me to let me know I could check-in early, now that's a first... ...the room was large, impeccably clean and extremely well-appointed. The bed was colossal and comfortable. The pub itself is a visual, Edwardian delight with a massive range of draft beers, fireplaces and cosy corners. The staff are outstanding; helpful, gracious - nothing is too much trouble for them. They're really hit the sweet spot with this offer - all credit to the owners and the manager. This is a fine place to stay.

Stairs are a bit steep but don't let that put you off...

Wir hatten ein sehr schönes großes Zimmer das sehr geschmackvoll renoviert war. Der Pub ist wirklich schön und sauber, die Anbindung an den ÖNPV ist super, Bus vor der Tür die U-Bahn erreicht man in ca 5. Minuten.

Leider war das Frühstück sehr überschaubar und die Hauptstrasse vor der Tür könnte für manche zu laut sein.

The attention to detail exceeded my expectations. The room was huge, beautifully decorated and was spotless. Staff were friendly and helpful, we had service with a smile from check in to check out. The breakfast was good and plentiful. The pub had retained it's Victorian charm and was warm and welcoming. We ate from the bar snack menu and the food was hot, fresh and tasty. I wish we had time to experience the main restaurant. I would stay here again without hesitation when we are next in the area.

Loved the room, very nicely decorated with a welcoming feel. Just as important was the delicious food available in the restaurant downstairs. Staff were very friendly and very quick to resolve a problem with electrics in the room.

Breakfast was good but maybe just a better quality of cheese and ham perhaps but no real complaints. But it did the job!

The refurbishment of the room matches the historic decor elsewhere in the pub and is of the highest quality whilst providing a modern shower and loo.

The continental breakfast was excellent. Everything was fresh and plentiful.

The road noise was pretty loud however I was happy to put up with it for the sake of my beautiful stay.
