The hotel and the staff are excellent. We had a great stay and after 2 nights were quite sad to leave. The property is OLD ! and that is what is so special about it. Friendly, warm owners and staff make you feel like you're staying with friends. I look forward to returning. A very special place.
The room and bathroom were great, very charming, the bed was very comfy and the room very warm (and self-adjustable). Gorgeous large fireplace in the lounge area. Beautiful area, I recommend to drive to the pass for the beautful views on the other side.
The dining room lacked charm, not sure if they were doing renovations, seemed like a temporary wall. I had great memories of the atmosphere in the lounge/common area of 20 years ago which I didn't find this time. I cannot recall what was different, maybe how the sofas are set-up all facing the fire? The staff lacked knowledge about their beers (local or not? pilsener vs hazy IPA, taps seemed swapped) and wines. The meal presentation could be better for the price too.
Amazingly clean, very friendly staff, perfect lounge/bar with a beautiful open fire.
It was authentic and old school. Warm inside while. snow outside. It’s history and wonderfully maintained.

The dinner offering was fantastic and the barman was standing ready to serve at 3pm when the hotel opens. The fire was roaring at 3pm also.
Quite expensive
The hotel was old world lively by the fire
All you could expect from an historic pub from the open fire in the bar, friendly staff, great food and lovely rooms we so enjoyed our stay. A visit to nearby Naseby for a wander and curling topped off a great weekend.
Fantastic location,
What a fantastic place to stay. Remote, beautiful lodge with outstanding staff, food, and facilities.
Staff were fabulous and welcoming. Food very good. Lovely open fire
Very peaceful location. Modernized roon in antique style. Nice not having tv in bedroom. Loved having dessert in the lounge in front of the fire. Felt very homely
The location, the hotel is at the south end of the spectacular Danseys Pass. The hotel is a step back in time, with a great lounge, bar and wonderful food in the restaurant. The bedrooms are spacious and warm. Parking is across the road a few steps from the entrance.
Nothing
I love the historic building, open fireplace, comfortable beds with lovely linen and wonderful hosts. 10/10 highly recommended
Beautiful place
If you’re driving over Danseys Pass, a stay at the Danseys Pass Hotel is an absolute must! It’s a total gem that feels like stepping back in time. The staff are incredibly welcoming, and the food is super delicious. Highly recommended!
Absolutely nothing!
Location was interesting.
Lots of restrictions and lack real of any positive host hospitality. Guest experience was mainly about what you cant do! Food was also low quality and very overpriced.
So unique, private and beautiful
Nothing
Authentic coaching inn with lovely ambience
Nothing of note
Not a lot.
Charging 5 star prices for what is in fact 2 to at best 3 star facilities. Corny signs all about the place making excuses for the facilities and how guests are expected to behave. Staff that would not have been out of place in a 1940's prison camp. Severe lack of furnishings within the rooms- not so much as a suitcase shelf- just a bed and a chair and that is it.
Beautiful Hotel set in Danseys Pass. Rooms were clean and comfortable and had a nicely styled vintage bathroom. The converted room to a coffee spot for visitors was a nice touch. The restaurant and bar were excellent vibe and included breakfast was great. Very Friendly staff.
Beautiful hotel perfect for our cycling stop over
Love the location and character
Not much to not like
Fabulous drive to what felt like a secret location with an asthetic of stepping back in time, but with comfort, style and great hospitality.
No complaints.
After a great ride through the pass and having an overnight stay over here was stunning. Great breakfast and diner too !
Nothing at all.
Room small but charming. Excellent dinner. Great bar and lounge area.
Location was stunning. The bar had a great atmosphere.
There could have been a wider breakfast selection.
Just a gorgeous hotel to stay in reliving the past with fabulous staff and wonderful fire and lovely dining and cute small quaint rooms and bathrooms
Absolutely everything! They were so accommodating and went out of their way to make our stay beautiful, we loved the board games and reading the history and loved that the rooms didn’t have a tv. Oh and the marshmallows- such a simple but beautiful thing!
Nothing at all.
The hotel was amazing. We loved sitting by the fire with a mulled wine and enjoying the ambience.
It’s so beautiful! Tucked away from everything so you can unwind and relax. It was cosy warm and the bed was comfy. We loved our time here.
Nothing bad to say!
The location was amazing and the host was very friendly, as were the staff. We loved our stay and will be back!
The ensuite shower was a bit tricky but everything very clean
Great place to stay friendly and helpful staff will recommend to friends
Fabulous atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff.
We enjoyed the breakfast, lots of choice.
all of it, great staff

Great location. Spectacular landscape through the Danseys Pass. Nice to stay in a historic New Zealand hotel which captures pioneering spirit.
Amazing historic building. Warm and homely. Great restaurant dinner
Great
The history. It felt welcoming and homely. The staff were lovely and friendly. Food was amazing. Loved the big open fire and the big comfy sofas.
Would have liked a cooked breakfast.
Our second visit and definitely won’t be the last. Such a beautiful place
Cozy and charming
Everything. A unique and stunning, private special spot
Nothing
Great facility in a remote location.
Paper thin walls between rooms. Rooms quite small by NZ standards - but it odd in the middle of nowhere
Everything was perfect - perfect accommodation and beautiful meal plus perfect continental breakfast ❤️
Nothing
Fabulous location. Great history. Properly quirky!
Staff were amazing, food was unreal, location remote and peaceful
A unique location and great history
Unfortunately there was very little water pressure in the shower (room 1) and the room had not been cleaned properly - dust on bedside cabinets and surfaces.
Lovely atmosphere
Nothing it was as expected
Great place well worth the effort to get there. Great food, very nice room with some historical features.
It is a quaint property of yester year in excellent condition. The staff were very accomodating and the food options excellent and very well cooked and prepared. The staff motto on their T shirts was: Make Danseys Pass Great Again, and they certainly did that. We really enjoyed our stay.
Location fantastic,160 years old and looking like that ,fabulous, great spot
Nothing
Amazing location. Well worth the visit to this beautiful area. I loved the old part of the hotel and the ability to sit around the fire in the evening. The dinner was excellent.
We arrived before 3pm and nothing was open, not even able to get a coffee at lunctime. We ended up going into Naesby and coming back after the 3pm opening time.
Breakfast was excellent. By the time I came to breakfast supplies had dwindled as some people had probably taken more than their fair share!
The bathroom suite was tiny, and had no outside window, so, despite an efficient extractor would have got mouldy easily. There was paint peeling off the ceiling too.
This is New Zealand’s best kept secret. This is an exceptional place - a real gem, where traditional meets comfortable with exquisite style and flair. The staff are wonderful and the evening meal was proper fine dining kept earthy, hearty and delicious. My highlight was roasting marshmallows by the fire.
In a perfect world, they’d be open for lunch too midweek during the high season.
Location ambience staff layout whole experience
The bed was too soft for me personally
Fun location
Didn’t open until 3.00pm. We arrived at 2.00pm and bar was not open or no food available
loved history of it and how well this was incorporated into rooms, lovely restaurant on site and very friendly staff
a wee way from any shops
The location is beautifully isolated. Perfect for that getaway from it all moment and yet a short drive away from the metropolis of Naseby - gateway to Central Otago. Lovely staff / very much enjoyed our meals/ building blends beautifully with the environment / awesome open fires in the public areas/ ambiance around every corner
Walls between rooms - very thin
Staying at the Dansey’s Pass Hotel is an authentic South Island experience - an absolute fav♥️
Amazing location and atmosphere. Great staff.
Staff were fantastic and food was excellent. Definitely recommend
Loved the character of the old hotel and its historical significance.
Great setting, awesome staff, great food and atmosphere

What an absolutely gorgeous spot, food was to die for, omg the homemade tartare sauce 🥰. Staff were so incredibly helpful and pleasant. Rooms were packed with cool personal touches, can’t wait to visit again and have another hand of cards in front off the fire .
Fantastic property. Great staff, Great food & super comfortable rooms & bed. Will definitely be back. Thanks
It is always a pleasure to stay at this hotel. The old world charm and roaring fire is perfect to sit in front of. Even marshmallows provided to roast. Perfect!
Excellent
Was all good
Well what a beautiful old hotel this is, WOW, only faults were room a little small and had shared tea/coffee area but that not a biggy, as we rated everything excellent, comfy bed, very clean, tidy room, staff awesome, dinner was out the gate and breakfast and atmosphere unreal, garden bar awesome, would highly recommend this hotel, the drive out was a tad scary for me as roads very narrow but thatadds to the adventure, so much history as well at the hotel
Awesome experience, however the smell of a dead rodent in the bathroom was unbearable.
