Heatpump not serviced so didn’t heat well until my husband cleaned the filters No service of our unit on the second day - no rubbish removed which we though was disappointing Cutlery missing - we cooked food but 2 knives, and only one fork

It was very warm and comfy and had everything we needed. Easy check in and comfy bed and pillows. Very friendly staff.

Room names instead of numbers and the check in note did not have a graphic as to which room was the room we booked. I guess the parking was on a first come first serve basis as there were no clear marks.

Reviewed May 9, 2026Great spot in Ranfurly, clean spacious room, comfy bed, good shower and excellent kitchen facilities. Very friendly host. We drove up to Naseby for dinner at the Royal Hotel (highly recommended!) and had a great overnight stay at Hawkdun Lodge. Great value for money!

Reviewed Apr 21, 2026The deluxe room was very nice and roomy. We enjoyed our short stay. Once we arrived there was a note on the office telling us what room we were in and that the key was inside the room.
We saw no staff from the time we arrived as the office was closed and the same in the morning. When we left in the morning there was still no one in the office so we left the key in the door.

I had booked a room with the options double bed or twin bed. I asked for a twin bed and that was confirmed by the hotel through booking.com. Upon arrival, I got a room with a double bed and asked for the booked twin bed room. Then I was charged 40 NZ$ on top of what I already paid to get the twin bed. They argued it was the fault of booking.com, but I do not agree. Also, I did not like that. .

Can be a little noisy from other guests entering / leaving and talking in car parking area outside windows. Property decor a little dated but made up by friendly staff and cleanliness.

Reviewed Feb 27, 2026We had a lovely room, the main kitchen was avaliable for us to use & very well equipped. Everywhere was exceptionally clean, the owner originated from Buxton & with us being from Sheffield we had a great chat.
We needed a rest from our busy site seeing tour of NZ & found nothing to dislike here, it might be a bit quiet for some but for us it was perfect, just what we needed.

The shower door had dropped and needed fixing. The pressure was ok but could do with a bit of a upgrade with the shower slider and head. The parking was pretty tight but in fairness we had a van so had to use the disabled.

Absolutely great stay but found office unmanned most of time - numbers on door to contact - sent text and got no response. It would be nice if hosts were more responsive. I found the same issue when initially enquiring about this booking. Other than that lovely and friendly.

$25 breakfast was a little too expensive for what you got. For that price you could have a full English in town. Maybe add some cold meats and cheese to better justify it. Otherwise it would have been a 10.

It would have been helpful if the motel provided information on its facilities in the unit i.e. a compendium. It’s a shame the kitchen isn’t equipped for cooking as it is such a spacious kitchen and the ability to prepare meals in the unit, rather than in a shared communal space, would have made it an exceptional place to stay.

Reviewed Nov 13, 2025Very comfortable room, easy parking right outside the door, excellent location with an easy stroll into the centre of Ranfurly (very small!), a remarkable common room available for groups - my second stay since 2023 and it was every bit as good as the last time. And it is such a good-looking building!!
Only one coat hanger in my room and the only milk provided were just tiny sachets. BYO if you travel with your own breakfast cereal!
