the location and the way to the hotel is really horrible. the hotel should be closed for at least 3 months as there is a construction work going on over the road. our car tire got affected by the road. we had to walk for 2/3 minutes to the hotel while going there at the evening.

The room was clean and new, the air conditioning worked perfectly and the bed was really comfortable. The most amazing thing is the view from the room: the mountains open up beautifully right from the bed. The breakfast was excellent and the service in every way was first class.

The shower head was broken and the water sprayed everywhere, and the water was lukewarm, not completely cold, but not warm either.

Great view from the Balkony.The room was clean and fresh made. The cook guy was a really so much friendly and nice and prepared for us a nice breakfast. A quiet place,we slept there so good.

The way to the hotel is terrible.Our driver has almost damaged his car.The road to the hotel is killed and needs some renovations (or the hotel should inform his guests about that). The manager speaks English not at all and there was a problems with communication. Each time when we asked about something he said just yes yes yes without understanding. The menu card looks huge with a lot of choose but in a real they had just rice and chicken (and the portion was so small). The rest of the days we have eaten in a town. The manager closing the main door in the evening and when you coming back in the evening to the hotel you should hope that he will open it (but we wrote him in WhatsApp and there was no answer at 10pm).So we must go around the hotel to find other way to jump to room. It makes no sense to do that! The rooms looks nice but it’s just first feeling.The TV was not working, the bath is not practical to use because the hot water running just 5 minutes and then you have to wait 30 mins again to continue to fill up your bath. The sockets was not working and jumped out from the wall. The light switches are made so unlogically and you have to look all the time where is a switcher and for what is it. The mini bar was broken and it was full of water inside.

The accommodation was clean and very comfortable. The staff were extremely hospitable and always took great care of us and were very attentive throughout our stay. Achintha looked after us so well and was always on hand whenever we needed anything. The road to the accommodation is a little bumpy, but the views more than make it worth it. El trato fue muy bueno. Nos facilitaron el traslado al centro y nos hicieron varias recomendaciones. Achintha muy amable. Si buscas aislarte y estar alejado de la ciudad y el bullicio es muy recomendable.

El alojamiento está a unos 9 km del centro. El camino está bastante mal y aunque lo facilitan mucho llendote a buscar en tuktuk te limita la estancia si buscas hacer actividades y pasear por la ciudad.

Staff were so attentive to really treating us as valued guests- the service was outstanding and we had onsite chef catering a delicious breakfast, freshly brewed coffee and tea and you have option of catered dinner which was delicious. The view of our vila was spectacular overlooking mountains with our own space. We could see view from our beds or own patio where we were served breakfast. Our room was spacious. Highly recommend staying here!

Don’t be deterred by rocky trail to get to Villa as team take good care of you to send tuk tuk for transfer. It’s so worth it if you are looking for a serene getaway with personable service!!

NOTHING The staff were trying their best but the place was awful to say the least

This is by far the worst place I’ve ever booked on this platform. I don’t understand how is this place allowed on Booking.com in the first place. The road was blocked and we were sent a tuk tuk that took half an hour to reach the place. The ride is off the cliff on an unpaved road and we arrived at night which made the ride very scary and uncomfortable. Upon our arrival, we realize that we’re the only people staying there as they only had that room (the other one was under construction), just us two girls and the staff in the middle of the mountain. There was zero privacy as the room is next to the entrance and the kitchen. I couldn’t believe we paid 130usd for that place honestly, it’s a big scam and I hope people read my review and refrain from booking so that they don’t go through what we went through.

when we arrived we realized it is a one room villa similar to Airbnb style and that it, there are no additional other rooms or facilities, so if you book it, you would e totally disconnected especially at night! we arrived at night and it was rainy, the roads were very bumpy and our driver couldn't reach there with the car, so the staff send 3 ticktoks to pick us up with our luggage, the room and toilet need heavy renovation and deep cleaning, there is a big gap under the room door where big insects or small animals can enter easily. We were about to sleep when we found a frog jumping over our clothes in the room! the owner shall put more efforts to renew the place

The TV wasn’t working as the bill had not been paid as per notice on TV screen. Description says hot tub and sauna but that is not true. Spoke to the manager and he said that’s the bath tub, which was very misleading for us. Pictures show a fruit bowl and bathroom basics like shaving set etc but none of this is provided. Bathroom tap was dirty. Stains on the bed sheets and towels. Bath didn’t work and leaked all over the floor. Room needs painting and facilities need updating. Lots of random rugs all over the room that are tatty and shabby looking. The place is 30 minutes outside of town so very pricey for the location you can get cheaper in town.

First of all I want to mention the very nice staff. The guy named Vinoj was very helpful and did everything to make our stay as good as possible. Upon arrival, we agreed that he would show us around Ella and all the most famous objects the next morning. He planned the route so well that we were everywhere on time and in place. we saw the train coming and the nine arch bridge. Breakfast was also very tasty.

[READ "WHAT WE DIDNT LIKE" FIRST] The communication prior to arrival was good - the property confirmed our arrival time to time our honeymoon setup, which was SO cute !! Our bed felt clean, the view is STUNNING, and the manager/chef was very kind and helpful. We asked for a bottle of wine from town and something off the menu, and they made it work for us. The location is remote, 30+ mins up the mountain from Ella, would only recommend coming here for a night or two away.

[READ THIS FIRST] OUTSIDE ELLA, including a rocky road that our driver was very nervous to drive over so it took us an additional 30 minutes to go the last 1 mile. Really the location of this place was the issue for me, i missed the other reviews saying how far it was, so hope others catch this one. Unfortunately the flower-filled bath they arranged for our arrival was cold, it turns out the water heater is VERY small and only lasts about 5 minutes.

Its a quiet a bumpy road to get there, but its worth it. Very friendly staff and the place is clean. Good breakfast too.

It is my 3rd time in Sri Lanka. There are very few places that i would 100% recommend to my friends or family. This one leave you in "awww". First - memorable TUK TUK drive to the property where hotel is located. Its the whole experience! The room is so cute and lovely, it feels like home. It was raining for our whole stay and the basic terrace was too wet to sit on. There is room for improvement for some of the furnishings to make sure they're more suitable for the damp climate. Given the rain, water dropping could be heard on the roof above the. Lots of potential for the location but building materials not upto scratch. No access to anywhere else so have to eat in the hotel. Need to take the tuk tuk to access. Might be ok for intrepid travellers.

A bit hard to access as the road is not done/poorly maintained. The floor was not clean and overall the room could be better maintained/renovated. We didn’t have enough hot water for 2 small kids and then had to wait to take our very short shower as the boiler is small. The property is situated in the middle of a tea plantation, in the jungle. The room was very spacious and clean, with a superb view over the valley. The staff was incredibly welcoming, taking good care of us during our stay. All in all, it was a memorable experience, which we highly recommend.

There's not much to complain

Fantastic views and a great space. A little way outside of Ella (contact the place prior to coming to arrange transport), but worth it to escape the crowds and see the views stretching across the south of the island. The villa is set up well, and the staff are attentive. The food was some of the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka too, breakfast especially.

The air con system is not very powerful so it takes a long time to cool the room. The road up to it is awful, if you get travel sick this place is not for you.

So much potential here, hopefully with the expansion, the finer touches will be done. It’s one room only- we were expecting a hotel as advertised. Quite intimate as a result with us and the staff! It’s also a fair drive from Ella, perhaps another 25 mins of mountain road and track. Easily done with a tuk tuk and the staff were happy to help with this.

A real taste of paradise...................... Recently had the pleasure of staying at the Royo Rock Ella Hotel, You are truly ontop of the world. The view is breathtaking, really magical. Make sure you get up at sunrise to see the stunning skies, hear the birds and the chanting too. The room was superb, way better than we expected actually and was huge. We had dinner in our room one night too which was a real treat. The Bathtub is great and a really lovely backdrop. The dinner was great and the breakfast was too. Special mention to the hotels Tuk Tuk driver who is on hand for trips into Ella and suggested a great place to stop for the best views of the 9 arch bridge.We felt really spoilt. I love everything about this property, it situated in the heart of tea plantation. Room, bathroom, lobby everything is so big and beautiful. They have a in-house kitchen with chef, you can order anything anytime from their menu. We were there on new year so they prepared huge breakfast for us with many sweets. This property is a highly recommended. Special mention for their staff, Manoj, Chef Chamaro and others ensure every small big thing to make our short stay to their place memorable. Definitely going to stay their again on my next Sri lanka trip.

The road to get to the property is a rather bumpy but it’s fine if you take it slow. We saw plenty of Tuk tuks go past without any issues.

The staff suddenly added extra charges and taxes onto the bill. There was no respect for privacy. People had also gone into our room while we were out, when we specifically requested to be left alone

The property is lovely staff were so nice very helpful. The views from this property are absolutely breathtaking. The road to the property isn’t the best but the staff arrange a tuk tuk so not to bad.

The location up in the clouds with so many species of birds and most amazingly we saw fireflies. The mountains view is remarkable. Mr. Manoj and his colleague was really helpful in preparing food and everything we’ve asked for. Our Driver Mr. Nadun is super man. Thank you for everything.

View was great, that is really the selling point of the stay. The hot water tank is not big, but it fills really quickly. So when 1 person showered for long time. Other just need to wait for a little bit, which is definitely okay. Shower pressure was perfect! Price of dinner was fair, which is nice.

Some what more privacy would be great. Cannot sit in the bathtub with the window sheets open, without having the chance the owners passing by. They should build an extra stairs where the owner can go to their own place and extra wall to create a private terrace Tip don’t go in the dark when it is raining, road is really bad.

(First I was bit sceptical of booking this hotel with one or 2 recent bad review but I am glad that I have booked it. It was the best small hotel we stayed at in Sri Lanka with great experience. Really enjoyed the stay at the hotel. The surrounding area is beautiful and it was a nice, relaxing experience. The breakfast and dinne was also enjoyable. we had a beautiful room with the most amazing view. very relaxing stay. Also we hired scooters from the hotel ( provided only to in house guests) and manage to explore most of Ella in 2 days. Little bit expensive but worth every penny.

The inside of the room and the view

Many bad things happened in our stay: -there was a lot of insects and a lizzard in the bathroom that came for the roof. -no water since morning in the hotel, and we couldnt take a bath and we are late and we have to leave dirty . -No privacy for this room, we couldn't enjoy the view and the bathtub feature with the view because the workers kept coming and going on the terrace and they could see us all the time and also in the bathroom and that kept us uncomfortable in our room.

A place to be, far away from the city and all the hustle and bustle. Here you can listen to the birds and take time for yourself. Incredibly beautiful to be so close to heaven. And by the way, the devel chicken was one of the best we had eaten in all of Sri Lanka.

Very Nice Location a way from ella twun with a magical 180 degree view. Staff service is best. Food was a 👍 🍜🥞🍟️. Room is big. Bath tub view amazing. great experience. Best place in ella.
