SURF N SPICE - HIRIKETiYA

Das Personal war nett und das Frühstück war sehr lecker.

Die Unterkunft an sich müsste mal renoviert werden und war nicht sehr komfortabel. Da man in der Regenzeit nicht gut im Meer schwimmen konnte, würde ich das nächste Mal eine Unterkunft mit Pool nehmen.

A lot of stray dogs in the streets around the property which were noisy at night and uncomfortable to walk past.

Positiv: Gutes Frühstück und gute Lage nahe am Strand.

Negativ: Die Zimmer entsprechen nicht den Bildern, wirken alt und teilweise fleckig. Sowohl Zimmer als auch Bad waren nicht sauber. Das Hotel ist sehr hellhörig, die Fenster sind undicht, sodass viel Lärm von außen zu hören ist. Außerdem kommen Insekten ins Zimmer. Zusätzlich gab es während unseres Aufenthalts eine Baustelle direkt neben dem Hotel, was den Lärm noch verstärkt hat. Insgesamt haben wir uns nicht wohlgefühlt.

Le lieu est très mignon et paisible & l’équipe et d’une vraie gentillesse, avec le cœur sur la main ! Les petites dej sont très très bons et variés ! Je vous recommande cet endroit, l’emplacement est idéal, entre la plage principale, Hiriketiya Beach et Dickwella Beach.

El desayuno es una auténtica pasada y las zonas comunes están fenomenal.

La habitación compartida olía bastante a humedad, pero en relación al precio el hostel está genial

The location between both beaches was great, giving the option of busier surfing beach or more laid back lounging and chilling beach. Staff were superb, friendly and helpful throughout. Food and service were top notch, the bbq each evening and the amazing breakfast being standouts! Would highly recommend.

A lovely warm welcome with a coconut on arrival, it was a nice vibe day and night with delish food and cocktails! Great location in between the busier Hiriketiya beach and more chilled Dickwella. The stay was clean, the staff are friendly and the dogs are adorable. Highly recommend!

The room felt a little sparse (some pictures on the walls & a mirror would be a nice touch). A hairdryer in the room would also be a great addition.

Location was perfect. Staff very friendly. Close to Smoke and Bitters and lovely quiet beach on that side. Breakfast and food served was amazing

The location was very close to beach.

The room was appalling. The bed had dead bugs all over it when we arrived & there was no mosquito net over the bed. There were gaps all around the doors to the balcony that allowed mosquitoes into the room.. The fan had only one speed which was too fast & noisy. We had to unpack on the floor as there was no luggage racks & no cupboard to store your belongings. The bathroom had no vanity or benchtops & the shower had a very inefficient drain & nowhere to put your shampoo except floor.. The cafe at front seemed nice & staff were attentive & helpful but the hot food was cold by the time it reached us.. At $100 per night they are not good value for the money..

The staff was fantastic, incredibly attentive and kind. We really enjoyed the breakfast, and on our second day the staff prepared it very early in the morning so we could take away as we had to catch an early flight. Anything we needed was taken care of - my partner even got a nice haircut on the premises. Highly recommend Surf N Spice for the overall experience, staff, on-site restaurant and location.

The room was very simple but it met my expectations and was great value. Nothing we didn't like and the excellent service more than made up for the fewer facilities.

Das Hotel könnte eine kleine Runderneuerung gebrauchen.

Przepyszne śniadania!!! W cenie noclegu do wyboru były śniadania z karty. Najlepsze jakie jedliśmy do tej pory na Sri lance ☺️ Pokój przestronny, wielkie łóżko, czysto i przytulnie. Polecamy!!

Budowa obok - przez co było dość głośno od 7:00. Dużo małp wokół więc nie skorzystasz za bardzo z balkonu bo praktycznie skaczą nad głową ☺️

The Breakfast was amazing! They put a lot of effort in the food and everything. Pretty cute! Thanks a lot. They also organized a scooter for me and everything was very chilled and easy-going. The cute dogs and monkeys playing on the roof every morning are the cherry on the top

Super goed ontbijt en fantastische service

We werden hartelijk ontvangen met een drankje. De kamer was ook zeer ruim.

We hadden het gevoel dat ze in een renovatie zaten, we hadden bijvoorbeeld bij een raam geen gordijnen. Uiteindelijk hebben ze dit wel kunnen oplossen.

Top Lage, sehr nettes Personal, abends gibt es BBQ, Frühstück kann zwischen mehreren Sachen ausgewählt werden und war inbegriffen, wir haben nach einem Roller gefragt, dieser wurde von der Unterkunft organisiert und direkt an die Unterkunft gebracht, also super unkompliziert.

We were warmly welcomed with a fresh coconut. Loved the cafe and good coffee, the complimentary breakfast, the friendly staff! Room was comfortable and spacious.

One of the best breakfasts in Sri Lanka at their café. The staff is very friendly and even recommended surfing with Noah, which we loved! The location is good, between the two beaches. They have two dogs, Surf and Spice. There’s no hot water, but it wasn’t a problem. We were able to leave our backpacks after checkout. The bed wasn’t as comfortable as in other hotels

Mit dem inkludierten, ausgezeichneten Frühstück und den makellosen Zimmern war dieses Hostel das Highlight unserer dreiwöchigen Reise. Das gesamte Team ist unglaublich herzlich, aufmerksam und gibt einem jederzeit das Gefühl, dass es ihnen wirklich wichtig ist, wie es uns geht. Auch die Lage ist perfekt: Zum entspannten Dickwella Beach sind es nur zwei Minuten zu Fuß und zur traumhaften Bucht von Hiriketiya gerade einmal fünf Minuten. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder – vielen Dank für alles!

Lokatie is perfect, alles op loopafstand en ontzettend vriendelijk personeel. We hebben samen met personeel een tour gedaan door t binnenland en allerlei kleine dorpen bezocht.

Een van de kamers had iets groter mogen zijn..

Iedereen die hier werkt is enorm vriendelijk en wil graag helpen. We genoten van de heerlijke ontbijtjes en de eigenaar heeft ons zelf naar de volgende bestemming gebracht waarbij we nog een paar leuke stops maakten. Prijs kwaliteitverhouding is super.

Wij hadden soms last van de bouwgeluiden uit de buurt, hier kan de accomodatie echter weinig aan doen.

Super lief personeel, leuke plek om te eten en ‘s avonds nog wat te drinken. Heerlijk ontbijt!

Het personeel. Zo vriendelijk, betrokken en actief heb ik ze nog nooit gezien. Iedereen in Sri Lanka was heel aardig, maar de mensen bij Surf N Spice overtroffen dat nog! Ook het ontbijt was heel lekker met voldoende keuze en het smaakte ook goed. De kamers waren prima, schoon en netjes, dus niets daarover te klagen. Oh, en de locatie was voor ons perfect: zeer dicht bij het strand, maar toch rustig. Maar belangrijker: vrijwel direct naast Smoke & bitters!

De deurkruk van mijn deur werkte niet goed, dus ik moest met de sleutel de deur steeds dicht doen. De deur kon dus alleen maar op slot, ook als ik dat niet wilde. Klein detail, maar verder geen probleem dus.

Everything was perfect and as promised

There is absolutely nothing good about this property except that it is near to the beach.

The floors have weird stains. The bathroom did not have hot water. The entire property does not include hot water and they did not mention this until I found out at night when I tried to take a shower. I ended up checking out and finding a much better place just 1km away. I checked out at 10pm the same day due to many frustrations with this hotel. The bathroom needs a complete overhaul. It is just nasty. The pictures that are uploaded here does not reflect what the rooms actually look like. The toilet is pathetic condition. There is no reception area. The bartender is the receptionist and barrista. Too many flies and mosquitos were around the bar area and this was frustrating.

Perfect location, in a quiet area and very close to both beaches. Big garden with a lot of space and a nice outdoor cafe. Very good breakfast. Very nice and friendly owners and staff. Totally recommend!

The staff are super friendly and cool guys. The breakfast included is the food off their menu and its the best breakfast we've had any where. Located at the better side of hiriketiya. So much more chilled Also they own 2 cute puppies named. 10/10 stay

Amazing location between Dikwella and Hirikateya beach. The people running the place are very friendly, breakfast is delicious and they have the cutest dogs named Surf and Spice.

Would be nice to have AC in the dorm rooms

Great location (5 min to a beautiful and quiet beach, 10 min to a great surfing beach with shopping opportunities). High quality food and very nicely arranged (best breakfast and coffee). The young staff is very polite, courteous and hard-working (they organized a great birthday surprise and barbecue dinner for 6 people). Nice lounge area with good music and free water from a water dispenser. We highly recommend the accommodation to everyone! :-)

No hot water (we were informed of this before check-in - but it wasn't a problem at all due to the summer temperatures)

Breakfast was excellent as were the staff and location. The staff were always friendly and smiling , and couldnt be more helpful. Coffee was amazing 🤩

My grey room could do with a lick of paint and some soft furnishings and somewhere to hang clothes but the bed was comfortable. There was no hot water shower but after day at the beach cold water was just fine .

Really great position between the two beaches, so was the best of both locations! Super friendly, helpful staff who were always happy to stop, chat and help you. The bedroom was large, bed comfortable and own balcony which we loved. The breakfasts were the best of our whole Sri Lankan trip, you could chose off a menu. Each day we had the Sri Lankan breakfast which we loved, many other places we have stayed assume a European traveller would want a 'european breakfast' and thats not so at all. Coffee was so good, the best of our Sri Lankan trip! Thank you Surf n Spice, we loved our stay and were sad to leave!

The location is perfect between Hiri beach and Dikwella. It’s located so it’s quiet at night. The staff is very sweet and breakfast is amazing - one of the best I had in Sri Lanka, even better than some luxury and way more expensive hotels. The cafe area is charming and very nice to hang out.

Room was clean but very moldy. We had to ask to get the room cleaned, it wasn’t daily. Private rooms could use a bit of renovation.

So delicious breakfast! You can choose between different meals and the coffee is one of the best I have tasted so far in Sri Lanka. The staff is so friendly and helpful, with both questions, tips and ordering tuktuk. Can really recommend this place. The dorm doesn’t have an AC, but a fan in front of each bed in the dorm.

Absolutely everything was fantastic! Location was perfect, between Dickwella beach and Hiriketiya beach (both walking distance). Tushare and team were super friendly, always with a smile. The room was very clean, good water pressure and good AC. The breakfast was super delicious and the coffee was definitely the best in Sri Lanka!! Thank you so so much for everything, we will definitely come back!

Watch out, there is NO WARM WATER in this location! You dont expect that when they ask 77 euro/night, but it simply isn't there. Shower and shaving is cold. If i would have known that before, i would not have booked. You probably pay for the location, ambiance and breakfast which are all very nice. Breakfast is really superb, including double espresso and a choice from their excellent menu. The guys who run it are also very friendly. Unfortunately the hotel part does not have the same standard as their restaurant part. The fan has only 1 speed (much too fast), light buttons are not clean and the bed was too soft for us (but ok, that is a matter of personal taste). The shower is so slippery that it is actually dangerous.

Great group of guys running Surf n Spice. Location is also perfect between the two beaches, one quiet and one lively. They have just opened a coffee bar which was very high quality

Hard to beat for the price point. Run by a group of lovely local guys; they are very kind and helpful and as a solo female traveller I felt completely safe and comfortable at all times. They organised a fantastic local surf guide for a really reasonable price. The barrista is award winning and reallllyyy knows his stuff scales/aeropress/variety of beans etc - I wasn't expecting to find the best coffee/3rd wave level in this place but I did!

The noise is hard to escape in Hiri. I had the front room downstairs which was lovely and spacious but I could hear everything downstairs and was woken up by noise from the road/monkeys.

The staff was very nice and super friendly. The location is amazing. We were there with 8 friends and a child. The breakfast was very lovingly prepared and tasted wonderful.

Great location for acces to both beaches (and the great restaurant Smoke and Bitters), the breakfast is absolutely fantastic and could easily be served in a 5 star hotel. They have a free water fill station.

The bed was not super comfy and the bathroom is not really practical. But price value the room is certainly okay.

It was the best Hostel I have been to.! Super large and comfortable beds, extremly kind workers and the best breakfast every morning!!! In a few minutes at hiriketiya and Dickwella Beach. Best price incl. Breakfast!

Nice big room. The AC-room even had a walk in closet. Best breakfast we had in Sri Lanka. Staff was very kind. Location is very good.

Spacious room with big and comfortable bed. The bathroom is a bit older but it was spotless clean. Shower gel and shampoo were provided. Staff were very friendly. There was a big balcony in our room with chairs where we could relax. Location is good, just a few mins walk from a bus stop and 7 mins walk to Hiriketiya beach and 4 mins to Dikwella beach. We appreciated the water dispenser so we didn't have to buy lots of plastic water bottles. WiFi worked perfectly. Breakfast was very tasty, you can choose from 6 options and all of them are great. You can play local board game Carrom or cards, borrow books from a library, play badminton in the garden or just relax in a hammock. Everything is provided for free at this place. Highly appreciated!

Very warm and accommodating staff. The hotel is in a great location - 7 minutes walk to hiri beach so it's a bit out of the action and more quiet which I enjoyed. WiFi was reliable and around 12 mbps. Amazing breakfast!

No hot water and air con is optional. It's a budget friendly no frills hotel, which I didn't mind. You don't need hot water in Sri Lanka.

Room was great and spotlessly clean, and also had a huge balcony where we could dry our clothes and towels in the hot Sri Lankan sun. Within walking distance to Hiriketiya and Dickwella beaches, and literally 3 mins walk to Smoke and Bitters (which was the purpose of our stay at Hiriketiya). Breakfast was in their amazing garden, we had the French toast and a Sri Lankan breakfast, honestly one of the best breakfasts we’d had for our entire trip. The staff were friendly and very helpful too. Would definitely stay again!

The breakfast was good, albeit basic. Staff were friendly. It was the near the beach - not my priority, but this meant it was relatively quiet.

Fittings in the room were a bit wonky: old electrical sockets. (The plug on kettle provided in the room would not fit in the socket.) Room was small (and filled with an unnecessarily large bed) and a tad overpriced for what it was.

The room was really spacious, the bed comfortable and huge and we had a good view from the balcony. The breakfast was amazing, we could chose between 6 dishes! As for the location, it’s between Hiriketiya beach and Dickwella beach so you can reach both within 5-10min. The staff was really nice and provided us some useful information about how to take the bus.

There was only cold water coming from the shower but as the temperature outside is quite hot and humid it’s not a big deal.

It´s a calm place where you can find your peace while watching monkeys and chipmunks. In the meantime, you are spoiled with a delicious breakfast. The beds are protected by a fine mosquitonet and you also get your own personal fan.

We had to keep the door open from time to time to air the room. A bit more ventilation wouldn't harm.

Great location. Near some restaurants and hostels, about a 5-10 minute walk to the main beach. Nice if you’re wanting to stay somewhere chill but still be near the action. The breakfast was unreal, try the whole menu if you can! Staff were so kind. Free water so you can fill up, much more sustainable than buying loads of plastic bottles. Room was beautifully made up.

Quite a few ants in the room but I think that’s a regular occurrence in the area. Also lizards would sometimes come in the room

Not the greatest interior set up (no mirror or any wall art), bathroom smelt bad/worse every day. But the positives definitely make up for all the negatives. We recommend! ☺️

Breakfast was AMAZING! They are building a cafe which we are so sad we did not get to try! Lovely location, right in the middle of both beaches. Great staff, monkeys running through and peacocks as well.

Great location, staff, breakfast and comfortable beds. Booked it two times and extended one stay because I really enjoyed it. It’s not too busy and feels very familiar.

The staff is super friendly and helpful & they serve a great breakfast. We also experienced a really great hopper night, where they took the time to explain us everything about the food and it felt like a private dinner for the people who were there. Also I loved the pillows – hadn’t had such a good sleep for the last weeks. Great place!

Felt a little bit like being in the jungle - monkeys and peacocks hanging out in the garden and bats flying around in the dark. Everything is safe though, so we liked it a lot. Breakfast was a treat - there were 4-5 different options available. We tried Sri Lankan version / French toast / burger and chips. French toast and burger and chips were huge and really delicious! Staff was friendly and location also very convenient - a walking distance both to Dickwella and Hiriketiya. Wifi worked well.

Just a couple of things to manage expectations: The room could use a little bit of special cleaning as there were not very nice stains on the floor. Bathroom would also need some maintenance as the whole building is not the newest. There is no hot water.

The staff are so good here. So helpful and happy! The room was a good size with a big bathroom and the bed was really comfortable. I liked that it is in between 2 beaches …hiriketiya - a 5 min walk with lots of choice and people or Pehembiya which is awesome for sunset. The Sri Lankan choice breakfast was soooo good and so filling. Really enjoyed my stay here, felt safe, welcome smd comfortable.

There’s no hot water but you don’t need it tbh. Some more comfy chairs for the balcony would be great !

The guys running Surf N Spice are great! They serve the best breakfast we had in Sri Lanka and helped us with renting a motorbike just within 30 minutes. They are really kind! The location is great, not right on the surf strip, but very walkable! For the price they are asking it is a steal.

For the name Surf N Spice, the common spaces (and I guess also the rooms) could use a little bit more ‘Spice’. It’s all still very basic or empty - but that could also be why the price is so attractive.
