Friendly welcome on arrival with continued good service from the staff. Good menu choice at very competitive rates for evening meals. Great location and comfortable room.
Nothing really
Location and Staff where great,Food good value
Shower door leaked a bit in room 2
The food was lovely when we had dinner. Staff pleasant. Location great.
Room 6 smelt of dogs. Rooms could do with updating
Der Spaziergang am Strand
Alles.
Location. Manager was very pleasant.
Sunday roast average. Charged twice for same drink. Rooms were tire, needed redecoration.
Very nice, catered for gluten free
More tea in room
Friendly welcome
Inadvertently had booked a table in restaurant that was full because of a pub quiz night. However, got served promptly. Breakfast was advertised as full English, but there were no staff there to take my order. For the price I paid, I think it could have been better and I don’t feel I was valued as a customer.
The breakfast was super! The staff were really friendly, responsive and helpful. Free parking on site was great.
Our room was quite small, with little space for belongings. The bathroom had no hand soap at the sink. The mattress was very soft. The approach to our room (#2) was quite dark.
Personal
Great location
The room was a little grubby, comfortable but could have been cleaner
Great location! Across the road from the beach (dog friendly party) and the B&B is dog friendly. Staff were loverly and there is parking.
It's very dated - the wall paper is coming away, the curtains were coming off the hooks, the window didn't close, there was no shower gel, the water pressure in the shower wasn't very good and the room was very small.
Close to sea front
We stayed at the Skyglass & Kettle for one night and also had dinner there with friends, and overall we had a brilliant experience. For us, the location is the biggest selling point — you literally couldn’t ask for a better spot! It’s directly opposite Gordon’s Zip Zap and less than a few minutes’ walk to the beach. There’s free parking at the pub on a first-come, first-served basis, although there’s also plenty of free on-street parking nearby, so parking wasn’t an issue for us. We stayed in Family Room 1 on the first floor. As advertised, it had a double bed and two single beds, but what we particularly liked was the layout. The double bed was at one end of the room, while the two single beds were at the other, almost creating a little separate sleeping area for the children. The room itself was a really good size, and the beds were SO comfortable — honestly, some of the comfiest beds we’ve slept in! The children were very happy too. The staff were fantastic throughout our stay and the service was great. The room had everything we needed — towels, shower gel and plenty of toilet roll — and we were also given a telephone number to contact if we needed anything during the night, which was a nice touch. We also had dinner there that evening with friends, which was another really positive part of our experience. The portions were a little smaller than some pub meals we’re used to, but the quality of the food was excellent and we all really enjoyed our meals. It was incredibly busy that evening and, if I’m honest, it felt like the team could probably have done with a few more staff. They warned us that food would be around an hour, but it actually arrived after about 35–40 minutes, so we were very happy. We were with friends, sipping our drinks and chatting, so the wait really wasn’t an issue. The following morning, breakfast was brilliant. Alongside the continental options, there was also a choice of cooked breakfast, which was a great bonus.
There were a couple of minor things that could be improved. The toilet seat didn’t quite seem to be the right shape for the toilet, and although the shower had good pressure, the shower door didn’t close properly. The en-suite was quite compact, with the bathroom door very close to the end of the bed, so there isn’t a huge amount of space in that area. We also only had one fan for the side of the room with the two single beds. We happened to stay during the heatwave and had brought our own portable fan, so we were fine. To be fair, we were given a number to call if we needed anything, so I’m sure an additional fan could have been provided if we asked.
Clean, friendly staff and the location was excellent
Needs updating a bit and a set of drawers in the rooms would be good.
Close to beach
Room was small hit head in bathroom ceiling. Shower was terrible couldnt turn down water temp. No shower gel.
.
.
A very busy pub right on the coast. 2 Min walk to the beach. Live music on the night I was there. Nice room with a shower plenty of towles a kettle with ample tea coffee sugar and milk. A very small car park but lots of free parking on the road outside and the surrounding roads. I paid for breakfast which was excellent and very reasonabley priced. The weather was exceptional the weekend I stayed which also helped
I was on the second floor. Although I managed with a small bag I wouldnt have fancied dragging a 20k suitcase up there. Stairs were spiral and a little rickaty
Ontbijt was prima.
Clean and tidy. Good breakfast and value for money.
Nothing.
Dichtbij het strand. Goed bed.
De hygiëne in het restaurant/bar was zeer matig, plakkerige tafels, onfrisse geur, tapijt gangen vies, kamer gedateerd. Geen gastvrije ontvangst. Douchen kon niet door te heet water!
Location is amazing right on the seafront
Nothing, it met our needs
The location is very good, very close to the beach. The pub was lively and friendly staff. The breakfast was very good,
The rooms are very tired, the outside could do with a lick of paint to brighten up the outsidre, no luxuries, the food was adequate, a bit more attention to presentation, even when you're busy,
Staff overall were friendly, location was great.
Room was on the third floor during this summer's heatwave, the window barely opened and there was no breeze. I asked for a fan and was told there wasn't enough for the staff, let alone guests staying - my lipsticks melted in the room to give you some context as to how hot it was. It was very uncomfortably hot and I struggled to sleep both nights, even on top of the covers! The room smelt musty and of damp, there was no window in the bathroom and the wallpaper was peeling. There were lots of hairs in the bathtub on arrival and the bathroom only had shower gel and handwash - no shampoo or conditioner! On the second day of my stay, the housekeeper arrived at 10am to clean my room, I asked her to come back at midday as I would be out for the rest of the day, she never returned so my room wasn't cleaned. The pub itself was very busy and lots of food items on the menu had sold out too.
The location and the staff are great. The room suitable, considering your above a pub. Don't get me wrong, the pub does not disuryou at all. The staff is very friendly and helpfull.
The room was a bit messy. But not to disturbing.
Nothing
everything - checked in and left 5 minutes after entering my room.
The location
The property is dirty and rundown
It was clean and quiet.
The hotel is tired and frankly getting a bit shabby. Which television channels could be accessed was a bit hit and miss, not all worked. Given the heat a fan would have helped.
We were very disappointed with our stay at Spyglass & Kettle. Upon arrival, we were placed in very small rooms. One of the rooms was expected to accommodate two adults and two young children, which felt far too cramped. Ventilation was also a major issue. The children's room had windows that could not be opened at all, and in our room only one very small window could be opened. The remaining windows had been screwed shut. Combined with the visible mould in several places, this created an uncomfortable and unhealthy environment. The breakfast was equally disappointing. The selection was extremely limited and most items were gone within the first ten minutes. Drinks were not refilled, there was virtually no choice of toppings or spreads apart from a few small portions of marmalade and Nutella, and several guests were left without breakfast items because nothing was replenished. Overall, we expected a much better standard of accommodation and service. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we would not choose to stay here again.
Klassisches Pub Flair
Nichts
Bed was comfy, staff were very pleasant and food was ok once I had returned original side of chips as were cold. Views were incredible and obviously a popular restaurant.
Very low sloping ceilings, no usable mirror in bathroom, no air con so room was uncomfortably warm and fan provided did not really help, room needed decorating and showed signs of damp in desk area
The location is excellent. The beach is literally on the other side of the road.
We stayed during one of the summer heatwaves and our room (nr 2) was unbearably hot. We appreciate that the premises are not air conditioned and that we were provided with a fan but due to the heat rising from the kitchen and the pub, we could only stay one night and had to leave a day early.
The staff were lovely and did their best. The location is incredible.
Everything else - the room was unclean, the shower was literally broken (parts falling off) and stuck running scalding hot. We had no hand soap in the room. The room is SW facing, on the top floor, and without air con. Letting people stay here was borderline inhumane. This is no fault of the staff - the place seems underprepared and under invested in. For a company reporting £200+ profits last year, there's no excuse. The price was reasonable for the location and time of year, but only when compared to other hotels nearby - still north of £100 per night to sleep in a shabby sauna. Sort it out Greene King.
Beautiful location and the waitresses and cleaning staff were very friendly, helpful and polite.
Bar staff who initially grating me when I arrived to check in were not particularly welcoming. Half of the jets in my shower head did not work, so the water flow was incredibly week, and it was located ridiculously high, preventing me from washing suds out of my hair!
The staff are super hospitable and the whole place has a fantastic atmosphere. The rooms are clean and functional. Fantastic position by the sea.
It was roasting hot on the 3rd floor! It would be great if the curtains were shut when the sun hits the room to help prevent the heat building up during the day before check in. Also having fan avaliability would be excellent (Although I admit I didn't ask if there may be avaliability to be fair)
I use the Spyglass and Kettle regularly, the room was as clean and tidy as usual.
Unfortunately, I was unable to get hot water from the shower and I could not find the switch for the light above the bathroom mirror. I also found it slightly expensive for just one night.
Excellent breakfast and dinner, even though very very busy..grest staff, friendly and hslful
The room tricky if tall as sloping ceilings and shower poor as fixed st ceiling height
Good location and good value
Shower was dangerously hot and could not be turned down. I wasn't expecting a 5 star hotel room in a lun, but I do expect to be able to use the Shower. We are regular visitors to southbourne but won't stay here again
Friendly, clean, great location
Lovely friendly staff and great value for money.
The room could do with updating
Great location. Easy parking for 4 motorcycles. Friendly helpful staff. Good food and good value
Bedroom furniture functional but a bit tired.
Great staff & location
Nothing
The location was excellent and staff were friendly
The room was so hot and no air plus verry very tiny and no fan given. No change of towels, bin emtied or tea milk top ups the next day
Location and breakfast
Very rude staff. Not enough staff to handle the demand with staying and visiting guests. Never arrive on Quiz night if you want to be served! Kitchen closed at 8pm although we had booked dinner for 8pm. They reluctantly agreed to do a meal for us but then didn’t have any salad available on the hottest day in June! The shower knobs came off in our hands and the shower when working only had boiling hot water! The staff told us to use another rooms bathroom shower ….. oh and walk back to our room in a towel! Seriously?? Only one fan in the bedroom and small sky light windows so the bedroom was like a hot oven! Medium thick quilts on the bed and the radiators were still on a low setting! This was June in a heat wave! Rooms and bathrooms could do with some redecoration and repairs. We ended up walking to Southbourne to get food from Sainsbury’s so we had a picnic on the cliff top. That was the best bit about our visit.
Estava localizado pertinho do mar!
It all felt like a huge hassle! There were steep stairs and no elevator. The breakfast was poor, and there wasn't even the usual coffee machine. If you wanted coffee, you had to pay extra or help yourself to plain black coffee—no hot milk. Good grief! I’ve never seen such a lack of care!
It is right next to Southbourne beach, less touristy and crowded location.
Location
All good
All staff were polite and attentive. Room was clean and large - only thing, no hair dryer in room Location was brilliant - right across the road from the beach and free parking at hotel or in area
Nothing
Location
Bathroom- the shower enclosure did not close properly. Needs updating. Also needs a shelf for toiletries etc. Only one window that was an opening window thus on a very hot evening was a bit stuffy. Having said that we would stay again as its right opposite an entrance to the path to the beach.
Location is excellent.
We stayed during a heatwave and the room was just too hot and airless despite the fan. However, this was a very unusual situation in fairness to the venue.
Location
Long way upstairs. Room very hot. Shower poor.
the staff were brilliant but clearly over worked at busy times
the whole building needs work it all looks very old and tiered and needs modernisation i noticed this as soon as we pulled up
Super Lage nah am Strand.
This property was very disappointing. Our room was small and gloomy and very noisy so we had to jeep window closed and it was a hot one. Food in restaurant was very poor. I know only pub food but inedible and I.m not usually fussy. After 1 night we left. We didn't enjoy our stay one bit
..we only liked the location. Nice beach
Free parking, good food, good wifi
Our room was comfortable with a good shower. Breakfast was excellent with both a cooked breakfast and continental breakfast available. We had one evening meal there which was also very good. The location was on the coast and within a 10 minute walk from the town centre where there are a number of other places to eat.
Nothing really...it is a busy pub so there will be noise at times.
Room was small and basic but clean. Also, decor and condition a bit tired. Room prepared with only one set of towels when we booked it for 2 people. Room was more or less what we expected for the price. Fine for 1 night. Check in was at the pub and a little unorganised (the bar staff couldn't find a pen so we could sign the check in form!). Breakfast was plentiful both cold and cooked to order.
Room was tired and in need of a refresh. Ditto the stairs and hallway to the rooms. Filter coffee at breakfast was awful and an additional cost for the staff to make a custom coffee.
Parking, location.
Door that wouldnt lock. put chair in front of door. TV did not work. Loose toilet seat. Blind hanging off the fixing,. Shower fixing loose. Overall appalling as the room cost £150 for the one night.
Beach front locations ,excellent service and a big thank you to the manager she help me with a flat tyre for my journey home 👍
Location to beach & buses Mostly dogs welcome !!!
Not told we need to book a table in evenings due to the evening entertainment
Easy going atmosphere, private entrance, good WiFi, free continental breakfast
Rooms 5-8, its a struggle up the stairs,
Excellent pub, excellent staff and excellent breakfast. Very good location.
Shower was minute. Evening food was a tad disappointing - slightly overcooked - and breakfast on last day was a bit chaotic due to lack of milk due apparently to missing keys.
Location, breakfast, bar meals and staff were very good and the room was clean.
Room was very small even for one person but had everything we needed and we only stayed for 2 nights. I don't think we would stay for any longer.
We love this place and we are definately planning to come back.
My brother in law complained that the shower didn't work properly. He said it was hard to get the right pressure and heat.
I regularly stay at The Spyglass and Kettle and it very much serves my purpose as I only sleep at the hotel, it is perfectly situated on the East Cliff with plenty of free parking.
At the bar when purchasing drinks and signing into the hotel took longer than I would expect considering the number of bar staff. I also had problems using the key card. Unfortunately, the heating was on during the hottest may week on record which meant a very hot night's sleep.
It was very clean & pleasant atmosphere, & the staff were great & helpful
Im not one too complain, But my room was very hot, no air conditioning & only had one top small window that opened, i was very Happy with everything else tho, Thank You
I love that they are so welcoming to dogs! Also, the location is just brilliant! It is right opposite one of the few dog friendly beaches in the area. The single room was spacious and perfect for me and my dog.
I asked what time the kitchen closed and was told 21h00 so I was really surprised to be told at 20h05 that the kitchen was closed. After begging as only one extra person to be fed, they relented and my order was duly taken. But I was then really surprised to see a table of four, who were not staying overnight, ordering food at 20h40! That is just really bad!
Location great. Staff helpfull. Food delicious
Just the room facing the back but not a big problem
Friendly staff and nice choice of food
Too many steps up to our room no tables available for guests who were staying as all the tables had reserved signs on them for their evening quiz
Location Dog friendly
Stairs to room husband disabled and dog can’t get up and down stairs
Shower didn’t drain. Loo flush broken. My room in the eaves, couldnt see in the mirrors! Breakfast 45 minutes delay
The nearness to the Clifftop
In essence this is what would be described as a very good pub but, from my point of view, not really an hotel. I appreciate I sought a budget hotel but the access to the shower and even into the room was difficult. No shelves for toiletry in the sink/toilet/shower area. Breakfast service left a lot to be desired but the staff were wonderful in trying to make the stay bearable. There did not seem to be any one in overall charge although a phone number was displayed in my room.
Good.Good.Good.
Very comfortable room
good lively vibe, very helpful friendly staff (especially at breakfast) room was clean & tidy, food was of a good standard & overall good value , great location for access to the sea & surrounding facilities .
Room was very tired & could do with redecorating at least, ( carpet & curtains very worn )fire alarm went off at 1.00am was a false alarm but Was sorted out quickly thankfully , the bed was very hard & uncomfortable ( could do with a topper at least)
Location - so close to the prom and beach Staff were lovely and friendly 20%off if you dine there, which we were anyway!
Stairs - only because one of us was post op
We love the location.
Poor breakfast service. Bedroom very basic no heating working.
breakfast was a fab deal and lovely
The 'economy' room, at £75 per person, was tiny, grimy, the window doesn't shut or lock, the curtains were hanging off the pole, the mattress was lumpy and hard and the whole room is grimy. I asked for my room to not be disturbed by leaving the door hanger on, but a male member of staff was in there when I returned from breakfast and a walk, which made me uncomfortable as a female travelling alone. My suitcase and underwear had been moved where I had left it on the bed, not expecting anyone to be in there.
Great location, helpful staff, nice selection and quality menu available in the restaurant.
Bathroom was a bit restricted for head room
Staff amazing
Nothing
The location was the main reason I booked there. The majority of staff were amazing and helpful. Lots of parking available on the road outside. The local people were very friendly. Lovely cooked breakfast every morning. It was a very busy place and the location was spot on so I had a lovely time. Friday evening they had a live band and it was lovely meeting people and the band were really good!
Very busy and the service was slow. There were a few staff that looked quite stressed and forgot to smile. There was one evening on Saturday when the Manager who was in charge was really unfriendly and unhelpful. The room was clean but do not think it was value for money. The shower was quite difficult to work out and only ended up having a very quick wash as not a great experience trying to work out how it worked. Rooms need updating to charge their current prices. Rooms need a small fridge.
The breakfast was lovely and the location was very good . loved the room. And loved it had everything in it

Situated on Southbourne clifftop with a stunning Blue Flag beach view for a picturesque seaside stay.
Unwind in the on-site bar and lounge, followed by a meal at the pub restaurant after a day of exploring the area.
Free parking provides convenient access to Bournemouth’s coast and nearby attractions.
