What’s not to like! It is great

I booked this lodge as a gift for my two daughters. The Lois and Alan are wonderful and welcoming people. My girls had a fantastic time and came home buzzing about their stay. In their own words.. "As someone whos lived in NZ my whole life I've never experienced such welcoming kiwi hospitality. Wonderful people and a beautiful place to stay enjoyed my time there."

Absolutely nothing we could fault

This place was amazing and the hosts were fabulous - so passionate about whanganui and really easy company on arrival, beautiful afternoon tea for us on arrival which was such a nice touch. Breakfast was too much to eat and all super fresh, yum! Then the grounds and spa were cherry on top - we had tui’s sitting in the window outside the bedroom and the stream down the bottom of the garden was magical.

We should have stayed two nights

We were greeted with a very tasty afternoon tea of little sandwiches and home made caramel slice. The outlook was restful with bird life outside the picture window. The beds were extremely comfortable and was a pity we had to get up. Breakfast was delicious. Hosts were lovely.

There was nothing to dislike

The property was beautiful, great location.fabulous owners, who were very informative, interesting and friendly, lovely breakfast, - hot tub an added bonus.

We couldn’t fault this beautiful BNB the accommodation was simply amazing so roomy and absolutely spotless. The hosts were delightful provided us with everything and more that we needed. Plus a wonderful freshly homemade afternoon tea when we arrived and breakfast the next morning.

These guest rooms far exceeded expectations. More of a luxury resort set of rooms (2 bedrooms, living room, well appointed washroom, hot tub, beautiful grounds) than a simple bed for the night! Plus, Lois and Alan were lovely hosts. Breakfast was fresh and enjoyable. Next time we'll stay longer!

Very comfortable and accommodation and welcoming hosts. Lots of extra touches to make you feel at home. There is private outdoor spa pool and a beautiful garden setting. The breakfast was delicious.

Beautifully presented accommodation in a quiet location. Clean & comfortable with superb hosts. Being able to watch the wild birds at the feeders in the garden & lying in the hot tub at night looking at the stars were added bonuses.

This is a jewel of a place. What total comfort! Lois and Alan have such great taste and Lois’ attention to detail is outstanding. Delicious breakfast. Alan is a great communicator throughout the process. They really want you to have a great stay. They were friendly, caring and nothing is too much trouble. Sitting in the hot tub looking at the stars and speeding satellites above was magical. Whanganui is a lovely town with lots of history and art. They both have lots of advice and tips. Highly recommend!

Loved the really warm genuine welcome, the beautiful setting and the immaculate guest wing. The decor, the linen, the bathroom items were all first class. There were canapés awaiting us, bubbly and a spa tub. This place is heaven on earth and is truly exceptional. Breakfast was beautiful and just what I would do at home except it had fruits from the garden I hadn’t tasted before - a great way to start the day. Magical hosts, magical home. Absolutely loved it.

What a marvellous BnB! Durie Vale Lodge exceeded our expectations in every area. The breakfasts were lovely, made even better by the friendly interaction with our hosts. We really enjoyed our stay. Thanks so much Lois and Alan.

Lois and Alan were very welcoming and helpful. The suite of rooms are beautifully furnished and the private hot tub outside was a bonus. The huge bed was very comfortable. It was helpful to have the use of a washing machine. It was nice that Lois and Alan had time to chat with us each morning over an excellent breakfast - they are lovely hosts.

The kitchenette was a little limited - but we ate out so it didn’t matter. And the wine and snacks provided made up for it! Nice bathroom and bedroom with a little sitting area. Hot tub looked great but sadly we were having such a good evening in Whanganui we didn’t get back in time to use it!

Every aspect was beyond our expectations. Wonderful generous hosts. Tranquil natural setting. Spacious and elegant accommodation. Plus quality beds and linen. Generous and superb breakfast prepared by hosts.

Everything, the facilities and the generosity of Alan and Lois was beyond our expectations. We had a lovely room, the use of a jacuzzi and the gardens. Breakfast was outstanding. Superbly located to explore the wonderful town of Whanganui and surrounds.

Oh my gosh everything. What a wonderful place! It was an accommodation highlight for us.The hosts care about your experience and it shows. I wish we had stayed longer.

It’s difficult to know where to start. There is so much that we appreciated our stay at Durie Vale Lodge. I’ll start by saying that the accommodation itself is exceptional. Everything is of the highest quality and provides an experience that is one of real luxury. The photos and description provided online when booking are 100% accurate. The hosts, Lois and Alan, have put a lot of time and thought into the Airbnb. The decor is an excellent reflection of their interests and the lives that they have lived with their overseas travel. They are thoroughly interesting people who engage with their guests in a manner that is friendly, authentic and mindful of people’s privacy. Every morning we had a lovely menu to select our breakfast from. It was a great way to start the day and was a time where we were able to get good insights from Alan and Lois about local sites that were worth visiting. As well as the accommodation and the hospitality, we have to make special mention of their lovely chicken who stole my mother‘s heart. Totally delightful. We can completely recommend Durie Vale Lodge as a superb experience in itself and a well located base for spending time in Whanganui.

Alan and Lois the hosts are just lovely people. We had a warm welcome and they showed us around the property - with a beautiful garden. It was all clean and tidy and just lovely! The hot top is amazing as is the whole outdoor area. They made us a delicious breakfast according to our wishes. Alan and Lois are very accommodating and of great help with our problems. We truly enjoyed our time with them and if we are ever back in Aotearoa we will come back!

Great hosts, location was as we like it amid quiet neighborhood and native birds, including the nightly morepork. Not a full kitchen but plates, glasses, cutlery and microwave, which for someone that doesn’t believe you should cook while away was all we needed. Continental breakfast and waffles were beautifully presented and nothing was too much trouble. As ex B&B owners, we give it 100+ percent. Thank you Lois and Alan.

Very private in a lovely setting. Alan and Lois have thought of everything. Clear instructions on where to park, a wealth of knowledge about the area and what to do / where to go. Bathroom, bedrooms, lounge were incredibly clean and comfortable. Views from the apartment were just lovely.

We wouldn’t change a thing!

The property was beautiful! Alan & Lois were wonderful hosts and cooked a delicious breakfast. The bed had the most comfortable mattress. We have travelled 6 months in the last five years using Booking.com almost exclusively, and this is the first 10 I have ever given.

Everything. Private, magical gardens, upscale, well appointed plus. The hosts have thought of every need before you will. The hosts,Lois and Alan are such nice people. Wish we could have stayed longer. Wow…what a breakfast ❤️.

Sehr schöne und komfortable Wohnung. Gastgeber leben im Haus sind aber räumlich getrennt. Gutes Frühstück. Gelegenheit zum Kochen besteht nicht. Kaffee und Tee kann gemacht werden. Mini Kühlschrank. Wohnung liegt abseits vom Zentrum. Man muss mit dem Wagen in den Ort fahren.

Fantastic location, very friendly and informative hosts. It felt like we were visiting with friends. Superb personal touches.

The only tiny improvement we could suggest is replacing the shower head. Otherwise we were very happy with everything.

Everything was perfect. The hosts were delightful! Breakfast of yogurts, fruits, breads and fresh potted coffee was excellent. We enjoyed the garden tour. The room size and layout was spacious.

The bedside lighting in the Queen bedroom was only on one side of the bed.

Excellent hosts who made us feel like old friends. The accommodation was so comfortable and the location picturesque yet still close to the town centre. We loved the breakfasts, birdwatching and conversations.

Unsere Gastgeber waren außerordentlich freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Räumlichkeiten waren mit hohem ästhetischen Niveau ausgestattet, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Frühstück ließ keine Wünsche offen. Hervorzuheben ist der wunderschöne Garten zu Haus. Ein kleiner Spaziergang führt über einen Bach durch ein grünes Paradies. Die Unterkunft wird von uns sehr empfohlen.

Excellent place to stay in Whanganui. The wing and hosts are exceptional, and the breakfast home made with fresh ingredients. Great little touches all around (binoculars to watch birds through large windows from sofa or thickest bath towels I have ever used...). Definitely, we will come back for a longer stay.

Wunderschöne Unterkunft mit 2 Schlafzimmern und einem zentralen Wohnbereich. Die Gastgeber Lois und Alan sind unglaublich nett und machen den Aufenthalt zu etwas ganz besonderem. Das Frühstück ist auch außergewöhnlich gut. Hier kann man nur 10/10 Punkten vergeben. Besser geht nicht.

Breakfast was amazing! Some of the best waffles I've had! The property was beautiful with a lovely outlook - native birds feeding, fish and even a chook! Lots of small thoughtful extras. Highly recommend.

I found it hard to find the house number and hard to read the sign. It is dark and dirsnt stand out. A visitor friend had the same problem. 😊

We were absolutely overwhelmed with the presentation of the property-it was immaculate, and beautifully maintained. Breakfast was exceptional, truly the best we've had. Our Hosts, Alan and Lois, were such lovely people who made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. We highly recommend staying here and will definitely return!

Durie Vale Lodge is everything you would want for a quiet get away, and more. It was luxurious, tranquil, and our hosts were exceptional in their attention to detail, making us feel welcome, giving us our privacy and going out of their way to care for us. The private wing was warm and cozy. The bed was very comfortable. The amenities excellent. The native bush garden was delightful and the hot tub under the stars was the cherry on top. But don’t just take my word for it, find out for yourself.

If there is anything to make it better I’m sure the hosts will think of it and make it happen!

Wow, what a bonus surprise. Guest room (really a small flat/suite) is gorgeous. Alan and Lois are attentive proud hosts. The attention to detail, the homemade petit-fours, just outstanding.

We had a fantastic stay at the lodge. With delightful hosts, immaculately clean and comfortable accomodation together with exceptional attention to detail made our stay wonderful. The tasty nutritious breakfast was the perfect start to every day.

10/10 really doesn’t do this place justice. It’s absolutely perfect in every way. Alan and Lois really have found a slice of paradise. They are also the most wonderful people and fantastic hosts. You will not find better. This guest wing is extremely spacious , clean and comfortable. The beds are like clouds. Alan and Lois go above and beyond to ensure you’ll have everything you need. The breakfast is amazing and we could have chatted all day. Thank you for making our stay so lovely. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat.

Durie Vale Lodge exceeded our expectations as beautiful accommodation in a peaceful valley, just 5 minutes from the centre of Whanganui. Our rooms were immaculately clean, modern, well-appointed with everything we needed. Our livingroom looked out on tui feeding in the private and peaceful garden. Lois and Alan are warm and welcoming hosts who gave us great tips about local attractions. After a big bike ride beside the Whanganui River, it was bliss to spend a couple of hours that evening in the private outdoor hot tub, staring at the stars above.

Durie Vale Lodge is a hidden gem with such fantastic hosts that are so welcoming who really take care of you and treat you like a VIP. The private wing is super clean and cozy with luxurious linen and comfortable beds. The backdrop is stunning and you really feel like you are in your own little sanctuary. The attention to detail and the little extras provided make this place stand out. We can't wait to stay here again 😊

The lodge is a prime example of how hospitality should be lived. Upon arrival, you receive a warm welcome – a personal touch and with a lovingly prepared aperitif. The hot tub is already heated and invites you to relax. All rooms are furnished with great attention to detail and provide a warm, inviting atmosphere. Added to this is the high standard of cleanliness – you feel at home from the very first moment. The beds are extremely comfortable; we slept wonderfully. The absolute highlight was the breakfast: individually prepared, fresh, plentiful, and simply delicious. A big thank you to Lois and Alan for your wonderful hospitality – we felt right at home and will definitely be back!

The location was beautiful. Durie Vale Lodge is nestled in amongst lovely NZ native plants and our hosts have obviously a deep love for the environment. Bird life was just outside our bedroom windows. Our hosts could not have been more hospitable; they have created a warm, comfortable and beautiful accommodation. Breakfast was also lovely and healthy. We could not have asked for more and it was definately value for money. Thank you Alan and Lois.

From the minute we arrived Alan and Lois, our gracious hosts, took the time to show us around their delightful property. Being nature lovers ourselves, we were impressed with the carefully selected plants and the enchanting walkways across a tiny creek. The beautifully furnished private guest quarters looked out to this sanctuary, the bonus being visits by the local Tui and Keraru. We could not have been happier.

Beautiful garden and the apartment is clean and very well furnished. Fabulous breakfast with friendly and generous hosts. Location is peaceful and quiet but close to the city. Would happily stay again.

The property was well situated close to town but in a tranquil setting. Alan & Lois were wonderful hosts who were super welcoming with tonnes of local knowledge about the spots to see. Lois and Alan are wonderful hosts and amazing people, it was such a pleasure to meet them and having conversations with them. Home made delicious breakfast was absolutely a bonus. Absolute perfection!

Alan and Lois are superb hosts, They made us feel at ease immediately and we always felt relaxed in their company. You could tell they just wanted us to enjoy ourselves during our stay and made us feel more than welcome. The accommodation was clean, well appointed and luxurious. It is truly one of the best accommodations we have experienced in our 6 trips to NZ. Breakfast was an absolute delight with fresh homemade waffles and fine china. We loved their little pet bantam, Buttercup. She was almost as sweet as our hosts whose genuine consideration, humour and attention to detail made our stay very memorable.
