Misthill Rest - Lavish Villa

I must preface all my reviews of Sri Lankan hotels with this: most smaller hotels are family businesses whose ambition is not to be a mogul, but to make enough to get by. Hence, all the owners and workers are extremely polite and helpful. Their attitude is universally friendly and accommodating. The room with high ceilings was spacious which could have caused one of the issues, see below. The food was freshly cooked and delicious. Wifi is fine. Price per room is good, but you will have to weigh that up against the negatives.

The problems: my room was freezing. There is no air conditioning. Perhaps I was there at a freakish time but the room was uncomfortably cold. They provided a small fan heater which was useless. I ended up buying a small electric bar heater to help make the room warmer during my 3 night stay. I left this behind for the manager to use for future cold tourists. The hotel, nestled amongst several others on a hillside, is located too far from the town of Nuwari Eliya to access easily. That's why the on-site restaurant is so important. As I stated above, the food is great. But the hotel is not walkable to anywhere. Perched on a hill, the water pressure is horrid. Out of their control, but something to consider. You will be washing your hair one hair at a time.

Parfait pour une nuit étape, la gentillesse des hôtes était vraiment à noter et super grande chambre avec petit balcon ! Le petit déjeuner est copieux et local. Très bon rapport qualité prix !

Un peu excentré de la ville, il faudra commander un tuktuk pour boire un verre le soir (le passage devant la maison est un peu compliqué en voiture) mais les sri lankais ont l'habitude !

Staff were wonderful. Room a good size with hillside view, our room was a corner room. Bed comfy. Cool at night, no need for AC. Breakfast was good, eggs, fruit juice, toast, fruit, yoghurt.

We made a quick one-night stop at Misthill Rest after a long travel day, and we were absolutely thrilled with the hosts! Super friendly and helpful, they made us feel right at home. The on-site dinner was fantastic (we didn't want to head into town), and breakfast the next morning was equally amazing. The room was cozy with hot water and everything we needed – we relaxed and recharged perfectly. Outstanding value for money, we'd definitely stay again! Highly recommended. 😊

Struttura raggiungibile tramite una strada ripida e complessa (abbiamo fatto difficoltà a trovare un taxi che ci riportasse a casa dopo aver cenato ). Per il resto le camere sono ampie e pulite e il personale molto cortese e disponibile.

La casa es muy bonita , con grandes ventanales y mucha luz. La habitación era grande y confortable. Comida muy rica (hicimos una cena y un desayuno).. Krisna siempre estuvo pendiente de que estuviéramos a gusto, atendiendo a todo lo que necesitamos y fue eficaz y resolutivo. También nos gestionó un conductor para el día siguiente para ir a coger el tren a Ella. Es una persona muy atenta y se nota que quiere que los clientes estamos a gusto.

La ubicación está muy lejos del centro. Necesitas coche o tuck-tuck para ir y venir

Das Zimmer war toll. Das Bett war sehr bequem. Zur Begrüßung gab's direkt Tee und Kekse. Das Frühstück war super lecker, hatten uns für die beiden Varianten des Sri Lankischen Frühstücks entschieden, das war toll und unfassbar viel. Der Manager hat für uns recherchiert, wann der Bus nach Ella fährt, da unser Zug gecancelt wurde - das hatte er auch nochmal erfragt. Und hat uns dann nochmal geschrieben, ob alles mit dem Bus funktioniert hat. Es gab keine 3% Gebühr beim Zahlen mit der Karte, wie sonst fast immer in Sri Lanka bisher.

Das Wasser in der Dusche war leider nur kurz warm, so dass wir dann eher kalt geduscht haben. Die Villa liegt leider außerhalb, so dass man nochmal 15 Minuten mit dem TukTuk fahren muss zur Stadt und der Weg ist recht steil, ging aber mit dem TukTuk.

Sauberes, nettes Zimmer. Manager sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Hat uns einen sehr guten Wanderweg empfohlen - Pekoe trail durch die Teeplantagen! Als uns am Abend kalt war, wurde sofort ein elektrischer Heizofen auf das Zimmer gebracht. Frühstück und Abendessen sehr gut. Für die Zufahrt braucht man ein Transportmittel.

Für die lauten indischen Zimmernachbarn kann das Hotel nichts!

Accueil charmant, très belle chambre, excellent petit déjeuner et rice and curry ! Nous avons apprécié le tour proposé et le prix du transport pour Ella. La guest housse est éloignée du centre, il faut mieux avoir un moyen de transport.

Freundliches und aufmerksames Personal. Wir wurden vollumfänglich betreut. Ebenso unser Fahrer wurde sehr gut betreut.

The place is a cozy home stay with almost everything you need. The views are also amazing. The highlight of the stay was the staff who were really eager to help and very resourceful. I'd like to come back for their hospitality.

The house design seems to have an issue because you can hear loud whirring and whistling sounds from the winds hitting the roof. The spring beds are also a bit noisy too. Had a little hard time sleeping at night.

El alojamiento y el personal hacen que te sientas en casa, por lo que es perfecto para la zona. En nuestro caso, tras un duro día de viaje, nos recibieron con tés y galletas de jengibre para que entraramos en calor. La cena fue excelente, la mejor cena de nuestro 15 días en Sri Lanka. La amabilidad del personal es extraordinaria.

El acceso es complejo por sus rampas y el estado de la calzada. Aun así, no tuvimos problemas en aparca nuestro Tuk Tuk en la puerta.

La atención recibida, muy pendientes. Te ofrecen te y galletas al llegar, comida muy buena tanto para cenar como desayuno, avisamos de las horas y asi tardaron muy poco en servir. Habitacion y baño con todo lo necesario. Teniamos frio y nos trajeron un radiador y mas mantas.

La ubicación está bastante apartada del centro.

Een prima hotel voor een nachtje. Er is namelijk niet zoveel te doen. Het staat boven op een berg, omringt met andere gebouwen, weinig moois om je heen, maar dat wisten ook van te voren. Wij gingen het hotel in, zijn met de taxi wat gaan eten, terug gegaan, slapen en de volgende dag vroeg naar de trein gegaan. Dus het was een kort verblijf. Het hotel was wel netjes en goed verzorgd. Het ontbijt was prima. Het mooiste en beste van het hotel was de eigenaar, zeer vriendelijk goed engels sprekende man. Wij hadden wat problemen met de treinkaartjes en hij heeft ons hier heel fijn advies bij gegeven. En ons de situatie beter uitgelegd dan onze chauffeur wie de kaartjes zou regelen. Heel dankbaar voor.

Out of town

The Sri Lankan breakfast was pretty nice and made to order. Staff extremely friendly. We similarly had lots of issues with the hot water (it is very temperamental) but the host was obliging and got it sorted quickly. Reasonable rate for Nuwara Eliya.

The bed linen did not fit the beds properly so continually came off the mattress during the night. It was cold and quite windy the night we stayed and one of the rooms was absolutely freezing, with no blanket available despite requesting (a blow heater was provided but this didn't offer much). Some of the bed linen was also not clean. The location is quite out of the way of the main town and the side road up to the villa is VERY precarious, particularly in/after rainfall. Unfortunately it didn't really live up to "lavish" for us.

The staff were amazingly kind and went all the way to make us comfortable. The breakfast was...delicious but HUGE! We had to take some with us. You get a choice of 3 cuisines but then you also get eggs, yoghurt, fruit, pancakes etc which was very unexpected. The accommodation was comfortable and it was very clean. Nusha was the perfect host, even arranging to send transport at the last minute to pick up our party of 6 from the train. Thank you for a very comfortable stay.

Although the property was quite a long way from town, it was cheap to get there and it needed to be a distance away as the town was very lively and noisy.

Spotlessly clean rooms with great views. The staff were super attentive and kind. Breakfast was good too.

Located about 6k outside the village, Misthill Rest is a bit of a secluded refuge. The staff (all men) are super friendly and accommodating. You've got to try the Sri Lankan breakfast. Also, they were most understanding when we had to modify our booking for a medical reason. Unfortunately, we did not really get a good night's sleep because the curtains didn't cover the whole width of the windows so the sun comes in a couple of hours too soon. The TV service was disconnected and the mattress and pillows were so hard it felt like you had spent the night sleeping at a bus stop. Maybe the place needs a bit of a touch up.

We stayed here twice and are so glad we did. The manager Najvy is such a professional - attentive, knowledgeable and helpful without being intrusive. All the staff are excellent. We chose to stay in and have dinner as it was so good the first stay we knew we would enjoy it again - we were not disappointed - the cook is excellent. We would happily stay here again.

We are so pleased we stayed here. The property is perched high on a hill a few klms outside Nuwara Eliya. From the moment we arrived we were spoilt - the staff are excellent, providing refreshment on arrival and assisting with carrying our bags to our rooms. The rooms were spacious with great bed linen and comfortable beds. The shower was good with supplied toiletries. There is a choice of 3 different styles of breakfast which was absolutely delicious, well prepared and served with a smile. We also ate there for dinner for 2 of our 3 nights - the chef is a great cook - the food was delicious and served hot and fresh from the kitchen. The warm brownie for dessert was so good we had it twice as well! This was a great find.

Guest house situé en hauteur avec une jolie vue. Un accueil très professionnel et souriant de l'équipe et un patron toujours désireux de répondre à nos attentes. Chambre propre, très ímagréable et bien équipée. Dîner et petit-déjeuner copieux et de qualité. Une belle adresse à prix raisonnable.

Das einzige was vielleicht nicht so toll ist, ist die Lage: ca. 10 Autominuten von Nuwara Elliaha entfernt. Ich hatte ein Auto also kein Problem. Das Hochfahren von der Hauptstrasse auf schlechter, kurvenreicher Strasse ist herausvordernd. Ansonsten alles super.

Wir waren dort nur für eine Nacht, weil wir am nächsten Morgen sehr früh zu den Horton Plains aufbrechehn wollten. EIn Frühstück togo wäre uns angeboten worden. Leider hat es in Strömen geregnet und wir haben vor Ort gefrühstückt. Sowohl das Abendessen am Abend davor als auch das Frühstück waren hervorragend und mehr als üppig! Auf meine Glutenunverträglichkeit, die ich im Vorfeld angefragt hatte, wurde problemlos eingegangen. Die Gastgeber waren so herzlich und freundlich! Die Unterkunft selbst ist etwas außerhalb von Nuwara Eliya gelegen, ein Auto / Fahrer ist notwendig. Die Umgebung ist nicht sehr einladend. Die Zufahrt ist steil und bei Regen matschig, aber machbar. Die Unterkunft ist sauber, die Zimmer geräumig. Es dauerte etwas, bis warmes Wasser kam. Für einen Stoppover auf dem Weg nach Ella auf alle Fälle eine empfehlenswerte Unterkunft, alleine schon wegen der netten Gastgeber!

The property is clean, spacious and the amenities are modern. It’s a quaint hotel with minimal rooms. The staff are friendly, accommodating and want to provide you with whatever you need to make your stay a good one. Breakfast is by order and whatever changes you require they arrange. The rooms are large, the bathroom has a shower and the hot water and pressure are good. The owner and main guy was beyond helpful and extremely nice 😊

The WiFi constantly dropped out and we were without wifi most nights. The walls between the rooms are quite thin and you can hear almost everything, even what’s happening downstairs.

We had an amazing stay at Misthill Rest, the staff couldn't do enough for us and made sure that our stay was perfect. Upon arrival we were greeted with tea and biscuits, which was lovely. Our room with a balcony was wonderful and very clean. We booked to have our evening meal at Misthill Rest, the food was so tasty, and the portions were huge, we definitely didn't go hungry! They didn't serve alcohol on site, but the driver went to the shop for us so that we could have a beer with our dinner, great service! The breakfast was also very good as well, and the portions once again were very generous. They also provided free accommodation for our driver which was very much appreciated. I would recommend staying here, you won't be disappointed!

The road up to Misthill Rest is quite treacherous, but as we were in a car and had a driver, we managed it okay. Just something to be aware of ahead of arriving here. Also, the hotel was quite cold, but I asked for a heater which we had in our room for the duration of our stay. Just remember to take a warm jumper with you, as Nuwara Eliya is much cooler!

Honestly this was my favorite stay out of all my hotels during 3 weeks in Sri Lanka. The property is beautiful and the rooms very clean, well laid out and cozy. But the thing that really set Misthill Rest apart is the impeccable service. Nusha, Mr. Najvy and the entire team is just top notch. Mr. Najvy was extremely caring kind and very accommodating to my driver. Kader. I appreciate that so much.

Nothing to not like! It’s just a bit tricky getting up to the property but well worth it.

The Manager did an EXCELLENT work. Everything was perfect, he and his team really went the extra mile and we had our best stay to date in Sri Lanka. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were absolutely delicious. Thank you for a great time!

Wir verbrachten nur eine Nacht in diesem Hotel, hatten aber eine großartige Zeit. Der Inhaber und das gesamte Personal sind unglaublich freundlich und hilfsbereit – sie erfüllen einem jeden Wunsch. Sowohl das Abendessen als auch das Frühstück können wir wärmstens empfehlen. Es lohnt sich, im Hotel zu essen, statt außerhalb – hier hatten wir das beste Curry und Sambol unseres gesamten Aufenthalts in Sri Lanka.

Die Fenster ziehen leider etwas, uns wurde aber ein Heizstrahler für das Zimmer angeboten.

We had an amazing stay here. The beds were comfortable and the shower was hot. This was by far the best hotel breakfast we had (we selected the Indian and Sri Lankan breakfast). Highly recommend.
