Location
The property is an old farmhouse, so we fully expected it to be rustic and dated, and that in itself wouldn’t have bothered us. Unfortunately, the main issue was the standard of cleanliness. There was a strong smell of damp on arrival and we ended up having to clean the property ourselves before settling in. Plates and glasses were dirty with food, hand and lip marks still on them, the tablecloth was dirty and ripped, and there was even a piece of pepperoni left on a dining chair. Two pillowcases were stained (although the stains came out when we washed them), and while the bed linen otherwise seemed clean, we found dog hairs on the sheets. There were cobwebs and spiders in most corners, the windows were very dirty, mould at the back of the fridge, and strangely, a dog lead in the kitchen utensil drawer. The property would really benefit from a deep clean and some refurbishment. A number of items are very tired, including rusted lamps, the outside table and front door. It’s a lovely old farmhouse with potential and we didn’t expect luxury, but unfortunately the cleanliness really affected our stay. With a thorough clean and some TLC, it could be a much nicer experience.
Location is fantastic with parking outside. Cosy and compact.
Slightly dated inside and an odd smell downstairs .. not unpleasant, but unusual. With a lick of paint and new flooring this place would be a 10/10. The tv is very small.
A cosy wee barn in an excellent location. The beds were very comfortable. It had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable & enjoyable. Would definitely book again.
There's nothing we didn't like
Cosy
Nothing
Upstairs the beds and the bathroom were good. We could have used more storage space though. There was the option of oil heating at no extra charge and the hot water heated up very quickly. There was enough parking, very important so close to the town centre.
There was no extractor fan meaning that cooking smells lingered. The presses were a bit smelly too and pots and pans need replacing.
Amazing place and superb host! We had such a great time staying at the barn, the location was fantastic and Joseph was so helpful and accommodating! We will definitely be back!
Nothing!
Good location, responsive staff (when issues were raised).
Property was damp - suspect due to age of building. Previous guests had left a bad smell in the twin bedroom - which had not been properly cleaned. The owner did attempt to resolve the matter when highlighted but it did ruin our stay a bit.
Beautiful cozy old building, lovely inside with a nice little woodburner,, open plan downstairs and two nice sized bedrooms upstairs, decent sized bathroom, lots of towels and toiletries, kitchen equipped with everything you would need. Ardara is a beautiful little village which has retained it's old worlde Irish charm, the pubs restaurants and shops are so welcoming, we often think about exploring other places on this island but are always drawn back to Donegal, it's natural beauty, relaxed atmosphere and it's friendly people. Would not hesitate to recommend this well situated charming old building .
Wish we had booked longer
How close we were to the shops. Just off the street but a stone's throw from some of THE best bakeries we've been to. Free parking right next to the house was awesome.
Just a small thing. We had received a note about the fireplace - we could get "fire sticks" or something whatever they are. We didn't understand if they meant we had to go buy the stuff for a fire or if it were somewhere for us to fetch. I think clearer instructions would have been helpful. Having said that the heaters worked really well.
Great location and very quiet. The house is well equipped and the beds are so comfortable.
The only thing that I would change is the size of the tv.
I liked the location. It was close to a few options for take-away or dining in. I loved the fact that I was able to travel with my dog. Parking space was available. In general, everything I needed was provided: instant coffee, plates, cups, a microwave, a kettle, etc. The bed was comfy enough, and it was very quiet after 11 pm. I also loved the spot where I could sit outside and listen to live music from the nearby pub. The contact with the owner was very prompt. He answered all my questions and informed me about every step. Thank you for that!
The place was not very clean. I had to clean many things myself before I could use them, such as the shower, plates, and cups. Cleaning supplies were available, so I used what was provided at the property.
Location was fab, quaint little cottage. 5 people fit us all comfortable despite being small. It was perfect.
This was such an excellent place to stay! The location is fabulous and close to everything in town! Hosts were amazing and went above and beyond for our group! We highly recommend!
The location could not have been any better.
A FEW OF OUR FAMILY THOUGHT THE BEDS UNCONFORTABLE BUT i DIDN'T.
Perfect just what was needed to recharge. Home from home. Everything U need is there. Love this area definitely be back again. The locals are fantastic, so kind and every1 we met from shops bars and cafes where fantastic. Everyone liked to stop for a chat. Couldn't fault the barn, the locals and the area. What a base to start from every morning to look at the surrounding area. Breathtaking
Excellent location - perfect stay right in middle of the town.
Marvelous location in a beautiful little town
We loved the authenticity of the setting and the fact that the owners were endlessly patient with us during the stay. The kitchen was very well equipped and the beds were super comfortable. The barn is very close to all Ardara has to offer. Pat at the Beehive Pub was a very welcome host. It didn’t take long to meander back to the barn after our evening jaunts.
The fact that we don’t own it!
The barn is a great place to stay and although you are in the town you weren’t disturbed by any noise. It has a well equipped kitchen. A lovely fire stove. 2 lovely bedrooms upstairs and a shower room. Access to a front garden and off street parking.
I couldn’t fault this place.
An absolutely gorgeous cosy cottage in the heart of the town of Ardara

Location
Cleanliness, lot of out of date food in cupboards, strange smell downstairs
Everything was fantastic big stove clean tidy location amazing beds so comfortable 2 min from shops pubs and food places and affordable thank you
Location was very good. Shower was decent
Beds were uncomfortable, kitchen was very dated and lacked dishwasher and freezer. The living room furniture was old and downstairs very musty smelling Overall not a good value for price and we left a day early
Location is perfect right in centre of the town. This was our second time staying at the barn and will definitely be back.
Great location, right beside pubs, restaurants and local amenities
The stairs were difficult for my sister who has a disability.would be helpful if it was explained when booking.
The hosts Joseph & Celine with little Amber greeted us but did not intrude, There was a heat wave & the downstairs was so beautifully cool & welcoming. We had everything we needed & more. Situation fantastic, right on the edge of town but quiet at night, Wonderful privacy. The big garden with swing & garden furniture were all used with delight. We stayed an extra night as it happened to be free & we were thrilled. Our two little dogs felt so at home. Joseph even filled up some gaps in the hedge so as we could laze & know the doggies were safe. What wonderful countryside. We went on planned walkways every day. We didn't bother driving to any of the lovely beaches as we know the area quite well. Ardara is a picture post card & the locals we dealt with were sound Donegal folk...the best. We celebrated with rest of family who were staying in Woodhill House, two fantastic nights with top service. Great memories.. better that any trip abroad. Thanks Joseph from the Morris family
Honestly there was nothing except it took me quite a while to climb the stairs, not so fit!
Quirky 2 storage cottage. Well equipped and great location.
Unfortunately the downstairs smelled very fusty. Fridge had no freezer section.
Central location⁷
Everything and more!!
The location and the proximity to all that you would ever dream of! pubs, restaurants, music, facilities, etc and most of all the wonderful welcome and friends that you get to know. Never a problem!!
cute, well equipped, warm and very convenient to the town
the stairs were very steep
stunning cottage with everything you need and perfect location for exploring stunning beaches, wild Atlantic way
everything was great, it just got cold quite quickly without the heating on but we went in March which is understandable. so bring layers if you’re coming in winter
So cosy! .Good heating & enclosed stove for a fire in eve. All practical things provided in kitchen . Privacy as off main road but with the practicality of being in the town & not noisy at night despite being stones throw from local bars. . Great shower. Quaint decor , really clean , comfortable rooms nicely decorated . Proper cottage feel with comfort of mod cons. Master bedroom has good space & extra bed. Easily fit 3 people here & 2 in spare room if needed. Wifi excellent. Energy saving switches for appliances. Everything you need for a small group or short stay. Host very responsive if you need him for anything & had fire on for us arriving night one which was a welcoming touch. Ideal location. Great little village . Plenty bars, gastrobars, cafes, take aways in addition to hair & beauty salons if needed & nice gift shops to suit all budgets. Friendly locals & really easy going. A relaxed break even with a nice busy ambiance for a small village close to beautiful beaches , hill walks & a good location as a base if you wanted to go further afield to other attractions such as Slieve league cliffs. Live music at night in some bars also which was very good. Local whiskey distillery tour walking distance also if of interest.
Upstairs gets very warm which isnt a bad thing but could only turn off radiator in master room so I would advise to use fire downstairs & turning on radiators for 15/30 mins to warm up upstairs is all that is needed . In summer you wouldnt need at all. It was cold weekend and house was super warm. So not a bad point but just to note to have upstairs comfortable in evening dont use heating for a long spell-use the fire & heating on a short burst. One firelog is sufficient for an eve or you could purchase a small bail of briquettes from local centra supermarket. Also 2 garages on either outskirts of town where you can purchase. All cleaning products provided bar a mop which you might like if you have children , I advise bringing kitchen roll/ floor wipes for spills if so. Tv works off aerial so reception was interrupted. This was non issue for us as only was put on for weather report but if want to watch a movie or something bring a chromecast or tablet device & preloaded things to watch. Couldnt complain at all. A fab little retreat in a cute cottage in a very lovely village.
This was a wonderful place to stay! Right in the village but in a secluded spot with parking. Pet friendly which was great for our dogs Toto & Dotty . Joseph is a fantastic host . He was very responsive and had the stove lit on arrival which was so nice as we arrived quite late. The heating has a boost switch which activates the radiator almost instantly! There was piping hot water all the time too . The kitchen is well equipped and the beds were super comfy. The house is very spacious and very cosy.
N/ A
The accommodation was much better than we expected. Right in the centre of Ardara with parking and easy access to all the places we wanted to visit. Beautiful bedrooms and bathroom and very well equipped kitchen. Will definitely return.
Nothing
the central location was great! The owners were very friendly. The shower was clean as was the oven and the windows Nice touches left for us such as children’s books, toys and a pram Nice garden with baby swing and adult swing bench
There was a bin by the fire with lots of random rubbish in it like wrappers, a dummy which seem unnecessary and would have been easy to clear out We couldn’t find the remote for the TV and asked the owner who told us to take a look down the sides of the armchairs and sofa (quite odd as I thought this would be something that the owner would have made sure was to hand prior to our arrival) when we did root through the sofa we found a half eaten packet of crisps and lots of crumbs - cleaning needs to be addressed here Not toddler safe due to the stairs the bed linen was very wrinkly as not ironed I feel that the property was not worth the money due to items such as the cleanliness. We had friends stay in 3 other places in the town all much more affordable, more spacious and with better cleaning
