The Well House Galle Sri Lanka

Cette villa paradisiaque nous a offert un séjour inoubliable! Cachée entre les palmiers, nous avons pu profiter de sa magnifique piscine et de son intérieur très spacieux. De plus, le personnel est adorable, serviable et arrangeant mais reste très discret et veille à la propreté de l’ensemble de l’établissement. L’emplacement était très appréciable notamment pour sa proximité avec la plage et le centre. Nous recommandons les yeux fermés ce logement!

Si vous souhaitez cuisiner, sachez que la cuisine est fonctionnelle mais elle est un peu vétuste par rapport au reste du logement qui lui est incroyable!

Absolutely loved the stay. We came with a two pets-dogs, and it was very comfortable. Initially we came for only two days, but we extended our trip for another two days because it was so beautiful, relaxing and the hospitality was at its best. And it’s literally on the beach. It also gives access to privacy, lots of nature. Really good food by the private chef and amazing pool. Absolutely love the entire premises and the hospitality. Most of the attractions are also pretty close by. I highly recommend and would love to come back and stay again.

That we had to leave

This was a highlight of our vacation. Perfect for ending our trip with a high note. Firstly, the facilities were amazing - such cool historical colonial style. The pool was great as well. Secondly, we felt like royalty - the staff was so warm and welcoming. And they noticed everything, we felt so taken care of. The most amazing part was the in house cook who prepared such nice meals for us. I highly recommend choosing this accommodation.

Keep in mind that you have to travel a bit with tuk tuk if you want to go to Galle Fort.

Beautiful building, great gardens and pool, spotlessly clean

It was a really beautiful house and garden. We loved watching the birds flying around at the garden and we easily spend several hours relaxing by the lovely pool. The rooms are nicely decorated and there are many places to sit down and relax. The staff is exceptionally nice and professional, they did an amazing job!

The setting was simply amazing. The staff was very well groomed and courteous. Last but but not the least the food was amazingly delicious

The rooms were too far away from each other

The Well House, Galle / Unawatuna border Outside the gates, the streets are busy, noisy and chaotic – but the moment you step through The Well House entrance, it feels like entering a completely different world. The property is beautiful, clean and peaceful, with a well-maintained garden and a lovely swimming pool that create a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the rooms are spacious, bright and well cleaned. The overall ambiance of the place is elegant and serene. There are a few things worth noting. There is no guest kitchen available. Instead, the property has a chef who prepares meals on request, but guests do not have access to the kitchen. This works well if you prefer ordering food, but may be limiting for those who like to cook themselves or especially when traveling with children, the lack of a refrigerator and the inability to prepare small evening snacks was inconvenient. The room furnishings are quite minimal. There were no chairs or a table inside the room, so the only place to sit was on the bed. There is outdoor seating in the garden, but having basic seating inside the room would significantly improve comfort. Additionally, there is no refrigerator in the room, only a kettle. The nearby beach was unfortunately very dirty, with plastic and rubbish everywhere and no visible effort to keep it clean. This is not the property’s fault, but the contrast with the beautifully maintained garden was striking. Overall, The Well House is a peaceful and stylish retreat on the Galle–Unawatuna border. With a few improvements to room amenities, the experience could be nearly perfect.

What I personally did not like was that the marketing Lady representative sent a list of rules stating that bringing your own food is strictly forbidden and subject to fines. This felt unnecessarily strict and unwelcoming, especially for longer stays or guests who prefer flexibility.

The property is well kept, and the staff were very attentive to our needs. The rooms are spacious but basic. Food was tasty. Main plus point is the staff, they were simply great.

The pool was not kid friendly, its around 5 feet in depth throughout so you cant leave kids by themselves Food was tasty but it was overpriced and not value for money. There were no shower cubicles, and the bathroom gets wet once you have a shower Even though there are 4 rooms, 2 rooms are in the main building and the other 2 rooms away from the main building Also trying to add 3% on top for credit cards is a big no no!

Wybierając Well House miejsca na odpoczynek po intensywnym zwiedzaniu. Willa i jej personel spełniły nasze oczekiwania. Pracownicy dyskretnie ale uważnie i szybko reagowali na nawet nie wypowiedziane potrzeby. Szef Kuchni Mangala serwował nam natomiast codziennie rano wyborne śniadanie a wieczorem wykwintne kolacje. Na mieście było by może ciut taniej? Fakt. Jednak smak, sposób podania i atmosfera w Well House sprawiły, że stołowaliśmy się wyłącznie na miejscu. Jeżli szukasz miejsca dającego poczucie komfortu to dobrze trafiłeś.

The place was beautiful and clean. Superb staff. The chef is brilliant ans the eastern food is a must try.

The rooms are slightly away but manageable.

We spent five nights at The Well House as a family of seven and loved every moment. The villa feels like a private tropical estate - beautifully green, spacious and peaceful, with a refined colonial touch. It offers several separate bedrooms and a large pool. It’s perfect for families or groups of friends who value privacy. What really made our stay special was the staff. They were kind, attentive and yet almost invisible. Towels appeared before we could ask, mosquito coils were lit the moment we sat outside, and every meal was cooked exactly how we liked it. They even arranged fresh seafood from local fishermen and surprised my brother with a birthday cake. The location is only a few minutes by tuk-tuk or 15 mins walk to Dewata Beach and central Unawatuna. It’s quiet, safe, and ideal for families or small groups seeking a place that feels both luxurious and truly homely.

Nothing major. The property is large, so sometimes you have to walk a bit between rooms, but that’s part of its charm and for us was only a plus.

Het is een fantastische plek, mooi 250 jaar oud koloniaal (Nederlands) gebouwd huis helemaal voor jezelf met een lekker schoon zwembad. Wat wij het leukst vonden waren de 3 gastheren die ons de hele week in de watten gelegd hebben. De kok maakte elke dag een heerlijk vers ontbijt naar wens (voor ons op verzoek engels). Het dinner was elke dag een culinair hoogstandje, de kok was echt heel goed en had duidelijk plezier in zijn kookkunsten voor ons. Elke dag werd de kamer opgeruimd en de bedden opgemaakt. De gastheer die dat deed maakte elke dag een andere creatie van handdoeken op het bed. Taxi's tuk tuk's en dagjes uit werden allemaal door de heren naar wens geregeld. Ook werden boodschappen voor ons gedaan, gewoon je lijstje doorgeven en de boodschappen stonden even later in de koelkast.

De vloer in de veranda is wat glad als het nat is, hier moet je even rekening mee houden. De strandopgang is wat verder weg en niet makkelijk bereikbaar. De douche was niet heel warm, maar het was 30 graden buiten...

A cute villa perfectly located within minutes from the Bonavista beach in Unwatuna and a few kilometres from the Galle Fort. The food and service was good and the place was almost like home. We enjoyed our holiday which was a double birthday celebration and staff were very accommodating of the varying needs of our group , some of whom were very senior as well as the kid.

However some basic conveniences have been overlooked which can be looked into ..No towel racks in the bathrooms and no shelves to keep things. One room in the outhouse had no racks to store suitcases and we had to ask for tables..Small things I will admit but it is the details that make a guest feel welcome. There was also a misunderstanding on payment modes and what was acceptable as proof of payment which really did put a bad taste in the mouth at the end of the holiday. It is better to pay in advance of your stay and have all things properly documented since there is much confusion within the team on what works well for them .

Location

Gorgeous property, pool and gardens with excellent staff and lovely food, couldn’t do enough to cater for the family and we loved it, thank you. Kids loved playing in the pool and gardens.

The bedrooms are all very separate and not connected. There are 2 which are connected in a different building the other side of the garden and the other 2 which are attached to opposite sides of the house are far away from each other (need to walk outside to get between them all.) Wasn’t an ideal lay out for us having 2 young kids who would have preferred a separate room.

Location, Spacious, Nature

Excellent Staff! 4 man team (including gardener) looked after us very well. Very good food. Chef was able to prepare meals as per our taste. Good location close to Galle city and Una town and beach. Comfortable rooms with AC. Lovely property with nice pool and gardens with a sea breeze.

The water pressure in bathrooms was useable but could have been better. Food costs were slightly on higher side. 'Open plan' bathroom 2 of the bedrooms were unnecessary. A door or partitions would have been much better. Wifi works, but can be patchy at some places on the property,

Staff very responsive

Very expensive Beach very disappointing . Bathrooms very small and no doors for them.

Everything was pristine. The villa is in a wonderful location between Unawatuna and Galle, both easily accessible via tuk tuk. The villa was bigger than we thought and the bedrooms were beautifully designed. Pradeep and his colleagues were fantastic and were always available to help us out. The pool area was also lovely. We didn’t eat dinner at the villa but enjoyed two incredible breakfasts prepared by the very talented in-house chef - thank you!

This place is MAGICAL. From the moment we arrived we where in awe at the beautiful property. The photos on booking.com do not do it justice. Each room was stunning, the open plan dining/living area had space for big groups and the pool and garden where so well maintained. Beautiful property. The staff made our trip- we became like a little family. They could not do enough for us day to day. The chef prepared some of the best food we have ever tried and totally catered to all of our needs. Nothing was too much for them and they went above and beyond without being asked. They genuinely made our stay there magical.

The only small detail was the water pressure in some of the showers was a little low. Some guests would have preferred a physical door in their bathroom for privacy reasons. Bar than- FAULTLESS

Lovely staff that helped us with everything we needed. Location was a bit far from the city of Galle but it gives you some much needed peace and quiet with an almost private beach in the vicinity.

Great stay at well house, a very niche boutique hotel next to the jungle. Mangala is an excellent chef well versed in all international cuisines, Pradeep will spoil you with his top class service, Chandrawansa will take care of your rooms and cleanliness of the villa, and Peter is a high profile gardener who takes care of trees, fruits vegetables with passion and love.

Rooms are separate, if you have more than 2 kids they will have to sleep in a separate building

The house was clean and very well presented. The pool was nice, a little small, but perfectly adequate for family of 5.

Water proof mattress protector made for hot nights sleep (despite AC and fan). Beach across the road not so impressive. Food by chef was good and plentiful but too expensive (breakfast and dinner for 5 people over 3 nights added 60% to room charge). Cheaper to get tuk tuk to Galle Fort and eat more cheaply and better. Service charge of 13% on top was unexpected and unwelcome - I was not inclined to tip extra. Hope the service charge goes to thee staff

The villa is amazing and the staff are best of best. Food catered for our taste, garden and pool are fantastic.

1. The water pressure of taps and shower was bad 2. Toilet & bath area without doors in two rooms! (Not everyone would like it) At least a curtain would have helped with a good exhaust 3. Breakfast charges are comparatively high. Could have been included with the room rates on a nominal charge.

Spacious rooms tastefully designed. Very comfortable bed and clean modern designed bathrooms. The elegant design preserves the spirit of the historic architecture of the villa. The garden and the pool offered an oasis of calm. Great food and the staff went the extra mile at any request.
