Room much better than expected. Quite spacious. Historic building with a lot of character. About a five minute walk from bus station. I think they have free on site parking for cars.
I would not recommend this pub for an overnight stay. Access to the room was not easy - all rooms are up at least one flight of stairs - at the top of the first flight, immediately in front of you, is a door which is not easy to open when you're standing on stairs with a rucksack/suitcase! The room itself was OK, not amazing. The chap that showed me to my room was not overly helpful - advised me there's no food at all - no dinner or breakfast available. Also: the bathroom bin had not been emptied; I asked for (and was given) some milk so I could make a coffee in the morning but by the morning the milk had 'gone off', so I had to have black coffee; there was no plug in the bathroom basin; the light above the basin did not work; there was no net curtain at the window which meant if you had the curtains open people across the road could see into your room. When I tried to check out the next morning there was nobody around at all, so I just left my key in the drop box. When I tried to leave the front door was locked - I could not exit the property!! After several minutes I found the back door which, luckily, was not locked, so I exited there and had to walk through the car park and around the building to get to the front of the pub so I could make my way to town.
I think I've answered this in my comments above.
The rooms are adiquate, we wanted an accessable now on ground floor which was provided.
The hotel and barcare a little 'tired', we have staued there for an annual event for last 3 years and although still value for money, not much has changed.
Location was great stayed many times
Room number 5 needs a bit of TLC
Overall
I found the upper side of my bed and side desk near the bed were bit dusty
gute Lage und nettes Personal
Zimmer sehr verwohnt und unsauber . Insbesondere das Bad
No breakfast however on the staff’s recommendation we went to King’s Cafe which was excellent. The bedding was good and the beds were comfortable.
The room needed decorating. There were holes in the wall where something previously had been hung. Just needed a little more TLC
Parking. Easy to access room and to leave. Close to shops. Very roomy. Lovely bar staff
Nothing
Central location , £8 taxi to racecourse
Limited stock , no ice .
Needs a refurbish was clean but shower was useless and in need of new shower curtain
Knew it was an old building and would be quirky but the bathroom floor was so uneven you felt like you were going to fall forward and was really difficult getting into the bath for shower as no where to hold onto
One of our rooms had a funky smell about it.
Non provided. Fairly central.
Left a beer glass on the windowsil. No milk in thecroom. Loud music on a Friday nihht.
Central to the town centre.
Great central location, friendly and helpful staff team, very good value for money
Location good right in easy distance to town. Plenty of shops . Friendly staff
Needs some updating in rooms .
No breakfast
No breakfast. Cat roaming free and jumping onto my table during my meal
Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was nice, a previous reviewer mentioned the clear window in bathroom for room 10, we stayed here and i have to say if anyone could see in that window they have more to be worried about than whos in the shower, its practically in the roof with no building overlooking it.
It is a listed building so didnt expect high end but everything felt a little grubby, like doors, handles, stair rails and like it could use a deep clean, also the fan in the room had enough dust to make a felt bunny. We stayed during a heat wave, be warned do not book this hotel in hot weather, we almost cooked on the second floor, spent the night with wet towels over us to stay alive, in hind site if the heat hadnt affected my brain i would have left and found somewhere else. A pity it would be a very nice place given a good clean and perhaps a better fan system in hot weather, i know there could be no air conditioning given the buildings status but there are good options out there for in room standing.
Location, Comfort.
Nettes Personal und gute Lage
Zimmer stark abgenutzt und unsauber.
Good location for exploring and going out in Newbury Town centre. Due to the issues we had experienced the manager was kind and gave us a full refund the next day.
The room was damp and ceiling had a leak all night.
Location and car park.
Though we only paid £70, the smell in the corridors was horrendous, the state of the carpets and decor was to put it kindly poor. And the fact that laundry was left in public spaces was not good.
The soap! Unlike many budget hotels this one has really good quality soap that actually does the job.
There was no one in the pub there was no atmosphere
Close to amenities
Whole place stinks of mould , wall paper hanging of ceilings, bed mites, bath too high , would never stay here again !!!!
A convenient one night stay within my budget that met my requirements and close walk to coffee shops
Plenty of parking, great location.
It was ridiculously hot, no fault of the venue for the weather, but more aircon could have been provided.
Didn’t do breakfast. Location was good. Free car park but have to remember to put the car registration at reception.
Not finding the car park until we were told how to get there by the receptionist at the next hotel.
The simplicity of the room. Well furnished for my needs and my Hearing Dog for the Deaf, Honey. The staff gave me the heads up about their resident cats which was good. We only met one cautiously curious one. A white one called Nibbles.
I did give feedback that the hot water tap washer need replacing, and the shower head need descaling (not surprising in a hard water area, but these are extremely minor points.

Nothing
Had no breakfasr, not clear from online information whether it was an.option, but ate elsewhere
Was going round in circles with emails, an email asking for my email address! Didn't navigate well online, may have been at my end
Really friendly and helpful staff. Great music and location. Huge free car park for patrons. Great value for money. Excellent location.
Couldn't get the shower to stay at constant temperature but it didn't really bother me.
Bed comfortable and linen clean… really like the quirkiness of the place with a being such an old building
The bathroom for room 10 looks out over the car park with the shower directly in front of a clear window with no blind… felt like a flasher at points! There was rubbish in the bin from the previous occupant and on dropping my charger I bent down to pick it up and noticed a thick layer of dust on the skirting board next to the bed!
This old coaching inn exhibits all of the charms of a Grade 2 listed building. Food in the restaurant was discounted for residents, though no breakfast is provided. There are however a couple of places providing breakfast nearby. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay

Bar area seemed a bit grotty and smelly. live band playing till late.
Clean, pub on property, staff was great, parking, coffee and cream in room.
Many flights of stairs with no air.
Good location and games room. Own parking. Good location.
Very nice place great helpful staff

Ideal accommodation for a group of blokes attending events or the races like us - very comfortable bed - great location for accessing what newbury as to offer with an added bonus of free parking & the price was exceptional
The height to access the shower & get out in room 5 was a bit precarious if u slipped
Nice, central location in Newbury. Quiet at night. Comfortable bed. Friendly staff. Larger room than expected and nice and warm.
Uneven floor in room, which wouldn’t suit everybody. Could benefit from a large overhead light, as a bit dark! Plug was jammed in the sink, so water wouldn’t drain away. No tea provided in the room, just coffee.
Good hospitality
friendly clean perfect location
nothing
Convenient position for Newbury town centre. Free parking was a bonus. Very comfortable beds. Very friendly staff.
Needs a bit of TLC and updating.
Everything
I've stayed at the Bacon arms a few times. Staff are very helpful and friendly
The Bacon Arms is exceptionally located in Newbury and comes complete with a car park if you are travelling by car. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room I had came with high ceilings, heating you could adjust, a view of the rear of the pub, and an ensuite shower bathroom. The room and beds was modest in decoration but clean, and comfortable. Getting access to and from the pub afterhours was straight forward but if you are checking-in early or late be sure to check with the team at The Bacon Arms first. They are responsive by the Booking.com message portal.
Everything in this hotel is as you would want.
The staff are freindley the rooms are good the food is good and the bar is great
This is a great place to stay i am currunyley booking my 3rd stay here
It is very clean a warm welcome, good food and a lovely bar
staff made us so welcome and the landlord said cool hand luke humphreys the number 2 darts player in the world 🌎 lives around the corner and this was his local small world 🌎
no negative points at all
Great location in Newbury city centre. Free parking. Good staff. WiFi good. Bed comfortable and bed linen/towels clean. Tea & coffee provided. Easy access. Basic & no frills hotel but suited all my needs and excellent value for money.
Very good
I liked it
The staff were super friendly and helpful.
The room looked tired and a bit dated. There were slight issues with the drains at times as there were occasional times of smelling dirty used water.
The location is perfect - just a short walk to the town. Parking is also free, which is a huge bonus in Newbury - large car park. The staff are lovely, so friendly and helpful. The beer garden is excellent. It's okay for a cheap stay - no frills.
Rooms are very tired and bed was not comfortable. We've stayed a few times as our son lives locally, but this will be our last. I struggled to sleep on this visit.
It was a nice large room and had netflix available
The bed was like sleeping on a stone. The floor was very noisy and until closing at around 11 it is quite noisy from customers.
Great location, very basic room. Great for one night
Very basic room
Great building with old fashioned charm

Dirty carpet. Waste bin was full.
Location. Nice building
Filthy carpets. Dirty bathroom. No towels.
Friendly and close to all amenities
The good price, great location and free parking.
The decor is a bit tired but other than that it's great value for your money.
Very lovely staff, bed was comfort and sleep well. Helpful in the hotel.
Perfect 😃
Good location with car parking facilities
Room could have been cleaner Rooms need re painting as well as public toilets No manager or staff on site in the mornings
Location fine. Very quiet, close to centre of town. Car parking was free. Bedroom and bathroom had storage and plenty of room to move around in.
The wealthy travelling public in the coaching era stayed at the Bacon Arms. Today the wealthy would not stay here,. Its rather bear with uncarpeted floors. Its tired and is in need of a revamp but not modernisation. The rear room is large and open, it needs more intimate spaces. The food is typical pub food and monotamous, it needs to attract more clientel.
The room smelt like smoke and it was dirty, I couldn’t sleep as it was loud and the bed wasn’t comfortable one of the lights didn’t work too. The price was ridiculous for what the room was like.
Good location. We had a back room and it was nice and quiet. Served it’s purpose as we just needed a bed
As there was no food at the facility it would have been good if we’d had a wee fridge
The family room suitable for up to 4 people (1 double and 2 single beds) was suitably clean (although the mirror needed a clean). There is a spacious bathroom and bedroom for this option and the bed was surprisingly comfortable (it didn't feel like it was on a level) Good location for town with history all around it.
Bedroom numbered 6 was unfortunately a huge disappointment with no spare rooms to exchange to. The sink in the bathroom overflowed/leaked all over the floor. The taps don't turn off so it's easy to overflow when cleaning teeth. Spare towels were given to remedy the floor wetness/apparently it wasn't possible to get a plumber in! The shower has mildew on the walls etc., The window was broken inside (secondary glazing outside) leaving jagged edges! The wardrobe had 1 handle missing with a screw , and finally a light bulb was out (there were 2 others). These complaints are easy fixes and I hope they have already been remedied!
The beds were comfy and near the town center
There was damp in the room and the floor was unlevel the bathroom was very unlevel not very clean We didn’t stay here long so was ok for short time
It was ok b

Aardig personeel, goede bedden en douche.
Erg gehorig.
Friendly, good atmosphere, clean, comfy beds. Great location
Nothing was good
Don’t go
Great fresh white bedding and towels Smart bathroom nice tiles and lighting Price Location near the Gurkha restaurant
Creaky flooring No bedside light Good The hotel looks rather run down on the interior. Worn carpets. Old decor But for the price it’s was worth it
Just the location.
