Horizon Resort & Hostel Sigiriya

Very comfortable and a great location inbetween two parts on the road for restaurants. Close to a great sunset spot with a view of Lions Rock by a lake. Saw a wild elephant from afar. Nice breakfast and very prompt service from the staff. Great value for money.

Sitio tranquilo con muy buena ubicación. Camas muy cómodas, desayuno completo.

The hotel is really well located, surrounded by nature and quiet to sleep at night. The host is very helpful, he organised all our taxi drivers around the country, with the best prices. He has a great communication and flexibility, he made our trip in Sri Lanka very comfortable ! Je highly recommend !

Very nice and helpful family, the son helped us a lot and gave us advice. We had a delicious breakfast every day. Favorable location of the accommodation.

L’hôte et sa famille sont très sympas ☺️ Le cadre est juste magnifique, si on aime la tranquillité c’est l’endroit parfait. L’hébergement est situé à proximité des restaurants.

Really lovely family who looked after us during our staff, advising about the best places to visit and what time. They were also able to organise tours and tuk tuks directly for us!

Internet was a little bit inconsistent but overall worked well

オーナーのシトゥさんの英語が堪能。 1人だったからか、自前のバイクで色んな所に連れて行ってくれました。

Very responsive and proactive host. Organised jeep safari and other activities for us cheaper than elsewhere. The property is conveniently located close to all shops and restaurants.

Clean & comfortable private room, good mattress, friendly staff, nice breakfast, good value for private rooms

The dorm was a completely different story. The beds were worn out, the mattresses uncomfortable and the pillows didn’t sleep well at all. The worst part was the shower; you could literally see exposed wiring and I actually got a small electric shock which is extremely dangerous!

Very kind host family, nice breakfast, great location

In all honesty when we arrived we thought we might find something else before we even checked in. But we stayed the first night, we got comfortable and stayed two more nights. It’s definitely not a resort as the name implies, it’s a very simple homestay. We really loved the position and Sigiriya is a beautiful place. It’s an easy walk to plenty of restaurants, laundry, shops and tour operators.

Having separate top sheets might be an issue for some. The bathroom could do with a bit of an update.

Nothing luxury but a good place for a one night stay. It was clean and conveniently placed, and good value for money.

amazing family run hostel in the mostly undeveloped surroundings of sigiriya and ~1km. comfortable beds, mosquito nets and towels/soap which was enough for our two nights. lovely breakfast in the morning. Sithu also helped us arrange a trip to polunawaru with bikes at a great value as well as our tuktuk to dambulla

Accueil agréable, propriétaire très gentil, souriant ! la chambre était propre, la salle de bain assez rustique et un peu vieillarde. Climatisation neuve. petit déjeuner assez basique.

Lovely family, super kind and welcoming. Location is within 3 minutes walking distance of many restaurants and cafe. Very comfortable bed, AC working well in the single room I booked, hot water for shower, very calm location to sleep well.

All was fine :)

Horizon was by far one of our favorite accommodations in Sri Lanka. We are 2 friends and booked a quadruple bedroom, with two big double beds. The room was spacious and so was the private bathroom, which had an excellent shower with hot water. Everything impeccably clean. Breakfast was good and the family who owns the place are very friendly people. Short distance to town. WiFi wasn’t the best but that’s very common around here. Would stay again.

Friendly staff and good location

This was a very comfortable stay. Located in a convenient location near the main road and restaurants. The family who run this homestay are very friendly - the breakfast we had was exceptional and very generous. The room was very clean and the shower was fantastic. I highly recommend this affordable stay to anyone.

I booked the dorm room at Horizon and it was very comfortable. This is a small guest house where I had lovely chats with the owners children and tasty simple breakfasts. It's centrally located near restaurants and shops in charming Sigiriya. Very clean and tidy, great value!

Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included and staff cooked a simple but delicious breakfast to order at whatever time you wanted.

Numerous power outages but really out of the hands of the residence and as a result of weather and monkeys :)

I had a great stay at Horizon Hostel! My room was very nice and the owners were very kind and helpful.

Horizon is in a great location for everything you would want to do in Sigiriya! A quick walk to Lion’s Rock and loads of restaurants nearby but it is in a quiet garden, we saw monkeys playing while we had our breakfast! The owners are brilliant, super friendly and communicative and organised a great elephant safari for us. The room was extremely clean, the bed was comfortable and there was an air con and loads of space!

Nothing!

Very friendly family owened guest house

One room did not have A/C, missed that part during the booking process. So can't blame them, but just a head up.

I had such a lovely three-day stay here! The homestay has a really warm, welcoming feel — Sithu was amazing throughout, super helpful with organizing tuk-tuks, transport, and local visits. He was always checking in to make sure everything was going well. His mom was equally wonderful — she made the most delicious breakfasts every day, and even got up early to make me breakfast at 6 a.m. before I left. One small suggestion would be to add mosquito nets to the windows so they can be left open, but overall this place was such a beautiful, peaceful spot. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Sigiriya!

Mix between hostel, homestay and private rooms. Simple but super clean room and bathroom. Outside terrace for socializing. Nice garden.

When people get up early for sunrise walk, it might be loud. Just ask them to keep it quiet when they do:) Hammock for chilling and enjoying the garden would be a great addition.

The location

The accommodations were subpar, with thin and uncomfortable mattresses, dampness throughout, and exposed wiring in the bathroom. The space was cluttered, dirty, and lacked any visible staff or support. Furthermore, the room walls exhibited mold growth and the ceiling emitted strange noises, giving the impression that it was on the verge of collapse.

This hotel is very close to the airport. If you have a flight, you can choose this hotel. I liked this place. The staff was very good.

There are a lot of mosquitoes in the room. The room has a mosquito net, but it is torn.

Perfect A/C, hot water and place to leave scooter in a quiet location. Would definitely stay here again when I return

The staff (mother and son) were great, the location was very close to the lion rock . They arranged a tuk for us to pidurangala rock to catch the sunrise. The stay was very comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic.

Really friendly and helpful staff who went out of their way to help me: booking early morning tuk tuks for a sunrise Sigariya hike and elephant safari!

Everything was great! I highly recommend the place.

everything was perfect.exceptional!

I booked a private room in this hostel because all the reviews were really good. It actually is the worst place I’ve ever been. The walls are really moldy, there were insects everywhere. The smell was horrible, and is was really humid. The left big window could lock so that felt really unsafe. The bathroom was extremely dirty, with mold as well. There were 2 giant cockroaches in the shower and a frog in the sink. I barricaded the door with my towel so they couldn’t come out at night. The guy working there knocked on my door at 12 at midnight to ask me for breakfast. He scared me by doing that. My bag and clothes felt humid and smelled really bad after 1 night. I dont know where all the comments are coming from, but please, skip this one.

It was fine!

Nothing.

Sithu and his family were super sweet hosts! They kindly came to the airport to pick me up and made me feel at home during my stay. Their place is very well located in Sigiriya and you will get to enjoy the green atmosphere around their house and feel at peace. It also had warm shower and AC! Highly recommended!

Location was close to the rock everyone wants to look at ☺️ Breakfast was nice and the chef was lovely Room was large and they had parking for the Tuk

Big damp issue in the room which made the stay less pleasant. Clothes didn’t smell great after being hung up in the room. Mold growing on walls and in bathrooms sadly,

Everything was perfect

Very sweet and welcoming family. The breakfast was really great. It was clean and the beds have been comfortable.

Everything is a bit old. But I mean.. it's Sri Lanka, right? It's a bit to far to walk to the lion rock and to Pidurangala Rock.

The location was great, the family were really informative and friendly. Breakfast was nice.

The room was disappointing. There was a mouldy damp smell and no airflow in the room. The shower had no hot water.

Good place to stay

The room was spacious, with clean sheets and two fans. The family that owns and runs it are so sweet; they give great advice about seeing things in the area but don’t push to sell you anything you don’t want. The entrance to Sigiriya is 3 min by walking and the guesthouse is surrounded by quiet nature. Really lovely place to stay for a couple nights!

It would be nice if there were screens on the windows so you could open them without bugs coming in.

First, i'd like to commend the host family for being kind and helpful. They were always answering questions and helping me with anything I needed. They served good food for breakfast ♥️ i really liked the fact that they always serve fruits. I appreciate that. Their restaurant was great too. I had fish curry for dinner and i enjoyed that 100%! They even offered and gave me more veggies and fish. No one has ever done that before! 😅 they cook really good food 🤗 It is in a good location. Walking distance to several restaurants. Around 1-2KM walk from the entrance of lion's rock and about 3.5KM to pidurangala rock. It was lovely to walk around the area. The price was a steal and a bonus of breakfast in the morning. You can't expect an AC for the price. It was very affordable compared to the other hostels around. If you need an AC, then go somewhere else but if you want a local feels then Horizon is perfect! It feels like home because of how the hostel looks. It's more like a homestay to me. It is peaceful (so you get your peace of mind if you need it 😅). I'd definitely stay there again. I am thankful for everything. 💗💗💗 Lastly, i forgot my white shirt and i tried contacting them again and asked for a big favor of asking any guests coming to Kandy to bring my shirt. So thankful to them that i got my shirt back. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I think this is important, a trash bin inside the room esp in the toilet/bath. The son/daughter sent me a whatsapp message twice asking for a "10" rating even if I haven't checked out yet. :( I explained that i didn't appreciate that because i will decide what rating i will give. I know how important it is for them but i got pressured to doing that when I actually intend to do it. I still had a great stay thats why im giving them a 10. There was a small dead cockroach. 😅 be mindful that sri lanka has a lot of mosquitoes and good thing they have mosquito net in the private room so it wasn't a huge problem for me.

Cleanliness, location, the friendliness of the family. The breakfast is very simple, but enough. Sweet family ,thank you.

Very nice people, very helpful! It's in the centre of sigirya. Shops, laundry service, rent a bike, restaurants,... are all nearby! If I come back to sigirya, I'll stay here.

Very good value. The family are very welcoming!

Nice and friendly hosts

The name "hostel" is maybe a little bit irritating because it was more a homestay than a hostel in my opinion.

Horizon is in a very convenient location for spending time in and around Sigiriya. As soon as I arrived I was greeted with so much warmth and kindness by the host family. The family is incredibly lovely to be around and were so helpful giving me information about the area of things to do and where to go to get things, they even booked an early morning tuktuk for me to see sunrise on Pidurangala Rock. The place is very clean, has a beautiful green surrounding and it is very peaceful at night time. The breakfasts are perfect and if you eat at their restaurant out the front don’t miss the rice and curry it was so flavourful! I planned to stay 1 night and ended up staying 3. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Horizon and hope to be back again soon.

Lovely place and lovely people. Simple and clean. Very close to the center, but very quiet and peaceful. Really good value for money. Highly recommended

Super friendly family! This is a really pure experience, it felt like home. Breakfast was really good, just like the dinner that we had there.

Good location, very peaceful, friendly hosts, excellent value for money, yummy food (I had dinner on top of breakfast included in the offer)

N/a

Very friendly family, they even cooked a meal for me when I arrived late in the evening Very calm There was a hook to hang on my mosquito net Big room with towel holder and big bathroom

perfect place for solo travelers, very quiet and hospitality is very incredible. the location is perfect and everything is reachable by walking. breakfast very good

everything good

Very kind host, good breakfast, basic but clean room. Nice location surrounded by nature 15 min walk to the Sigiriya site entrance. Nice patio with communal seating.

Great host family, very caring Great ubication, just 7 minutes walk to the lion rock It has a nice restaurant. They are improving installations, excelent quality price! Thanks for everything!

The bed was very nice and comfortable, everything was clean. The owner Chandi is also super sweet and waited up to make sure I was safe after dinner!

It was not clear before that the room did not come with A/C and the fan was a bit old (loud)

Excellent room and frendly staff. I highly recommend this rooms Supperb🤘🤘

Very big open space and lovely owner/management (Chandi) who provided me a with a lovely room and breakfast and coffee and allowed me to have a late check in. Big clean room and lovely shower with air con and really big bed, nice and quiet. Couldn’t recommend enough

Nothing!

The woman who runs it is wonderful. She is very friendly, happy, and eager to help. It’s on the main street, basically in the middle of “town.” Great location, easy to walk to all the restaurants and Lion Rock. Wifi was reliable and quick. Probably the cheapest private accommodation in Sigiriya so it was good for the wallet.

You get what you pay for. Sink wasn’t working, hot water smelled very bad, bathroom door didn’t close, fan sounded like it was going to fly off the ceiling. Room was very damp so it smelled a bit off- and the humidity caused my passport pages to curl. I wouldn’t stay for more than a night or two.

Good.

All good.
