Bappa's Place

Loved everything about this hostel! Beds are huge and comfortable, nice showers, powerful AC, walking distance to the beach, social but not party vibes.

Location was convenient. Clean. Tidy. Kind of modern. Quiet considering that other portion was a hostel. Clean water available. Hot water was consistent

I liked pretty much everything. Maybe a bit expensive for the private room

Tolle Sanitäranlagen und Betten! Das Personal war auch super lieb.

Location is perfect. Near everything. Walking distance to all the places tourists frequent.

I stayed in the female dorm, and the male staff came in and out of the room quite often... top bunk bed had no curtain for privacy, and getting on the top bunk was another struggle on its own, to be honest ! The lights in the communal area stay on at night.. not the most comfortable stay .. In the bathroom, girls kept on leaving their undies behind.. this is was not my favourite living situation At All.

It’s close to restaurants and beach. The bed is big and has black out curtains on the bottom bunk bed.

The beds were slightly bigger than regular ones, which made them super comfy. Everything was very clean, and the location was great close to the best roti restaurant in town. The showers and other facilities were also spacious and clean.

There are only 10 person dorms, and the beds don’t have curtains for extra privacy.

Clean facilities, nice staff

No social vibe at all, monkeys on the roof at night

Really enjoyed my stay here! Comfortable beds, clean facilities, good hangout spaces to meet fellow travelers. No hot water for showers but that’s not uncommon for Asia. 700 Rp for laundry and came back clean and folded. Location is tucked away from the main road so it’s nice and quiet but still within walking distance to many restaurants and the beach. Good aircon!

No bed curtains lol

The room was beautiful, clean and very spacious, and the staff members were all friendly and helpful. The beach is less than a 5 minute walk away.

Super nettes Personal und alles sehr sauber. Ich kann's nur empfehlen.

Mir fehlte es ein bisschen an Möglichkeiten, um nasse Sachen aufzuhängen. Aber das ist wirklich motzen auf sehr hohem Niveau.

Bappa’s place was perfect for my stay in Hiri. It has everything you need, is a short walk to the beach and restaurants, and was a great place to meet people. It’s on a quiet street away from town and isn’t a party hostel but everyone is super social and friendly!

It's a chill hostel, laid-back vibe. A bit expensive. Really nice that there is a kitchen you can use! Beds and bathrooms are great, comfy and clean.

Super clean kitchen, great location, easy to socialise

It’s almost impossible to close the door to the female dorm quietly, so it’s disturbing when sleeping.

I book the dorm and it was really clean and calm. The localisation is just perfect you can walk to the beach really easily and it’s clean for a dorm. They also have a nice AC and proper curtains for having your own privacy. Highly recommend

Great location away from the main busy road, but near fantastic restaurants and still only 3 minute walk to the beach. Lovely rooms with big beds.

One of my favourite hostels in Sri Lanka! The female dorm was great - spacious, comfy beds, enough storage space. The showers and bathroom area is great & has everything you need. Also enjoyed the kitchen upstairs, inc free coffee.

Only improvement I'd make is blackout curtains around the beds.

Super clean and comfortable hostel which had a really cozy feel to it. The staff were really happy to help where needed too. Great location, just a couple mins walk to the beach!

It wasn’t particularly social in the fact that there were no family dinners, etc. But for me it was a perfect, quiet getaway!

Great place! Very big and comfy beds and space for your luggage. The facilities were clean, and the hostel also has a kitchen on the rooftop with fridge. The staff is very kind and helpful. Thank you!

No hot water :(

Chill hostel, owners are helpful, not such a social vibe but great place to sleep in the area, close to lots of restaurants and 5-10min walk from the beach. They provide the towel and have free water & coffee.

Booked a bed in a female dorm which they could not provide, no hot water.

De mixed dorm is really great and the beds are build in.

Based on the reviews I was expecting like some common area or family dinner or something. There were no activities organized or a place where you could hang or socialize. So great if you just need a good bed, but not the best hostel to make friends

The rooms were spacious and clean. The beds were large and comfortable with ample reading lights and storage for your large bags under the bed and lockable storage for your belongings. The bathrooms were clean and great condition. Had the absolute best nights sleep while there and have recommended to friends I've met along the way to all book here.

Nothing

All! The vibe, the location and the staff

Having to leave

comfy bed and nice property

The staff is lovely and rooms very clean !The biggest bunk beds i have ever seen are that they come in a queen size ! 2 min walking to the beach . Great place and location. They even have a kitchen to cook on ! Came for 1 day and stayed 1 week! Thanks, guys, for the great job !

The hostel is really nice, rooms are spacious, beds are really big, you have plenty of space where to leave your things, and it is small so it’s not too big or crowded. It’s also 1 minute away from Hiriketiya beach and next to some really cute restaurants. Staff is super kind and accommodating, I would definitely come back :)

Bathrooms and showers are not separated between gender and there is no hot water. I did not mind too much (maybe the hot water a bit more) but it’s good to know. Showers and bathrooms areas were clean but I would probably add one extra round of cleaning since there are only a few for around 20 people staying.

All! The location, the place is very clean, the staff is super friendly and always willing to help. I was in hour different hostels in Hiriketiya and this is by far the best one.

Nothing to say against.

- Great location (close to the beach and lots of restaurants/cafes within walking distance) - Beds are huge and everyone has a lamp, locker, storage space and outlet - Kitchen is well equipped

Super helpful and friendly staff Super clean Huge and comfy beds Quiet at night Good laundry service Great location

Nothing

Bappa's place was the best hostel of my trip! The energy in this place is really good, and I met a lot of great people here! I liked it so much that I came back for a second time. It's located 6 minutes from the beach and the centre, perfect for getting away from the noise that the centre often has (music from restaurants/bars), so a good night's sleep is guaranteed. Also the condition of the hostel is marvellous!!! The dormitory is big enough to get dressed in and we have a specific space to put our backpacks. The beds are huge and very good! Best dorm I've ever stayed in! Another icing on the cake for me was the coffee machine they have in the kitchen, with the best coffee I've had in Sri Lanka! The kitchen is very well equipped and super modern, located on their rooftop! To summarise: I highly recommend this place! Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

To be completely honest, I have nothing bad to say! The hostel is really nice and the people who work here are really nice too! Go for it solo travellers ;)

It's a wonderful quiet place, really close to the beach. The beds are extremely comfortable and don't make any noise when someone gets in and out. Also you can use the kitchen with a fridge upstairs!

It's a small hostel with a really nice vibe but if you are looking for a party place it might not be for you.

I had the best stay ! The vibe was so chill and everyone was so friendly. The beds were very comfortable and big, the showers were amazing. The staff is just soooo nice ! They would absolutely anything to help. I had a surf enjury and I couldn’t walk for over a week, if it weren’t for sishani and Shan I don’t know what I would done.. Sishani took me to the hospital, brang me food every day and helped me a lot. If you’re hesitating don’t because it’s the best for the price and the location and the quality.

Everything was good

Private room

Space was really nice and very close to the beach ⛱️

We did our laundry there, they told us it would be ready in the same day so we added our pyjamas. The laundry only arrived the next day. So we were in this uncomfortable position where we did not have most our clothes including pyjama and we were sleeping in a shared room...

It's a very nice and cosy hostel, 6 minutes from hirikiteya beach. The location is really good, because it is not in the busy area but at the same time it is not far from the centre/busy area. Right next to the hostel, you have a great place to have breakfast/lunch or dinner for a fair price (cheap, I would say). About the accommodation, the place is really clean and with a nice kitchen!

Very comfortable mattress, probably the largest I had from hostel dormitory beds. Location, close to the beach nice restaurants near by. Helpful staff.

Seems no hot water? If you’re okay with cold shower it would be okay. But shower room were very clean which I liked.

The beds are large, clean and very comfortable. The concrete absorbs all the sound so you get a good night's sleep and they have curtains for privacy. The location is great with restaurants nearby and a short walk from the beach.

Really clean, good facilities. Not super social for solo travel.

First time in dorms and it was the perfect place for it! All new and clean and the stuff was great

Everything

Design, value for money

I liked how close it was to the beach.

The air conditioning smelled badly and it was overpriced.

Bappa's was incredible! We booked 2 nights, but ended up staying for 4 more days. The location is just removed from the beach in a quieter area, an easy walk. The rooms/ bathrooms and kitchen were so clean and comfortable! Some of the comfiest beds I have found in a hostel. The staff was great, helping us book the extra nights and do our laundry with ease. The yard had a bunch of different chairs to sit in while enjoying morning coffee.

Hands down the best hostel I’ve ever been to. 10/10

Modern design, built beautifully and also comfortable for traveler needs. Fully equipped kitchen for resident use. Staff so helpful and nice.

Good location, comfortable bed and decent shower.

This hostel was awesome. It's modern, clean and very comfy.

Helpful staff, clean dorms with a lovely air freshener, cold AC, good common areas, many places to hang wet swimwear / towels

No hot water

Super friendly and helpful staff! Newly built and very clean property. Super comfy bed and spacious, stylish private room. Shared, new kitchen with all kitchenware you would want (juice maker, blender, stove, coffee machine, fridge, spices etc.)! Water and coffee for free! Great location, just a 2 minutes walk to the bay in a calm area. Highly recommended! Thanks again!

Really nothing!

New hostel, sociable but not party which is nice. The bunk beds are much bigger than most hostels so plenty of space to sleep and comfy.

They should set the dorm a/c at a temperature and not allow guests to adjust - I was kept up all night by the beeping of multiple people in the dorm fighting over the temperature turning it up and down constantly. Maybe give the bed that is under the a/c a bigger blanket to keep them warm. Over priced for a hostel in my opinion but I enjoyed my stay.

New place, amazing hostel with one privat room. Loved the detail of the design they put in to it. Everything was clean. Staff was always available and really friendly.

Really nice hostel! One of the best I’ve stayed in. It’s pretty new which you can tell. Nice facilities, good vibe, nice lounge area and rooftop and kitchen.

Only thing missing is curtains in the dorms for privacy

Very good Hostel, amazing Staff, big beds, good location, good kitchen etc. Not a party hostel but still good to meet people. I recommend 10/10. I stayed 9 nights at the end instead of 3

If there were curtains, it would be an 11/10 :D

Very clean beds with crisp white sheets! Modern design, kind staff, very close to the beach.

Nice clean hostel with great kitchen facilities.

Could do with some curtains round the bed and have the freezer switched on!

The hostel was new, very clean and close to the beach. It was my favorite place to stay at in Sri Lanka. Not only the facilities were great but also the people, especially the manager Darshana is so sweet and made everyone feel really welcome. I hope I will come visit this place again one day.

Amazing hostel! Never had such a good and clean hostel bed. They also have a big kitchen with everything you need to make your own home cooked meal. The manager, Darshana, is very friendly and can help you with, for example, finding bus information. I would definitely recommend this hostel.

Just everything! This is a brand new hostel and they thought about everything a traveller needs to make themselves comfortable. The beds, the showers, the lounge area, the amazingly well equipped kitchen (literally everything is in there and it’s all clean and easy to use, I want a kitchen like that at home seriously!). And the staff, they are so sweet and go out of their way to make you feel at home. The location is perfect, you will be in the ocean by 6 am because it’s so close. The hostel doesn’t organize activities (yet) but the setup of the hostel is made to make socializing very easy. We ended up having dinner with all the guests almost every night. So don’t hesitate, book it!

Nope!

This hostel is great! Everything was very new and clean. Big beds with all the things you need, like a locker, shelves, light and sockets. Under the beds is space for your backpack. The showers and toilets where clean and enough for all guest. No queuing. Staff was very friendly and helpful! The beach is only a 3 min walk. Wifi works well! I would definitely recommend this hostel. It’s worth the few more dollars !

We only missed a mirror in the ladies dorm. That would be handy, but no mayor problem!

The place is completely new and in awesome condition. Comfortable beds with AC, clean and modern facilities. The staff is nice!

Very clean and they have everything you need for a backpackers

This place is mint. Facilities are great (Cold showers however not an issue). Very nice rooms with large comfy beds, lockers, personal reading lights, towel and power plug. Owner and stuff super friendly and helpful. Kitchen and chill area upstairs which is open for use anytime. Drinking water available on site too which makes things easier. Great location, less than 5 minutes walk to the beach. Nice chill hostel. Loved it. Highly recommend.

Nothing

Staff at Bappa’s were so attentive and caring which made my stay very smooth. The facilities are perfect (including an on-site kitchen which is available to use). The dorm beds are large and comfortable with good under bed storage space. Bappa’s is located along a stretch with several other hostels and it is less than a 5 minute walk to the beach. It’s perfect if you’re looking to book a surf trip.

I cannot fault this accommodation. I hope it becomes a busy hotspot for travellers.

Everything is perfect, very clean and nice also the beds are very big

Friendly People Nice new Rooms Dorms are Western Standards Large Beds, AC, Nice Showers

Dorm Room only has Cold Water in the Shower but in this Climat not a Problem.

Nice place, very clean, confortable beds, nice garden to do yoga. Very new kitchen where you could prepare youre own meals. The staff was very friendly, there is also a confortable common area where you can sit outside the rooms.it is very close to the beach.

brand new hostel in town, everything is super clean, staff very very friendly and helpful, showers are amazing, beds are spacious and very comfortable, room is nicely designed with shelves and little lockers on each bed. only 2 min from the beach - definitely recommend staying here.

/

Very new place with the biggest and most comfy beds I’ve experienced in a dorm yet. All the amenities, very friendly staff with excellent English skills and 1 min walking distance to the beach. Kitchen is very well equipped with a sweet coffee machine, blender, …

Friendly staff, clean, pretty gardens. Walking distance to beautiful surfing beach

Nothing

Such a nice place to stay. I highly recommend it. The hostel is brand new. It opened around 10 days ago. It’s super clean, close to the beach and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Clean, modern space with wide beds and strong AC and fans, excellent wifi (able to take video calls), super sweet staff and really nice vegan cafe up top on a lovely deck AND so close to the beach and other great food spots! There are outside showers to rinse your feet/body after a swim in the ocean too.

Nothing at all! Love Bappa’s and stayed 4 nights here. They’re bit new so not as many reviews but compared to what I’ve heard of other hostels and experienced myself, it’s fantastic.

I was actually the first guest to stay at the hostel because it is brand new. It was a bit of a gamble because there were no reviews but I am very glad I took the risk! They have done a really excellent job. The place is really well designed. The dorm I stayed in was spacious and very clean. The beds are almost double sized. They have really convenient storage under the beds for bags so the rooms won’t feel cluttered when full. The showers are amazing - great water pressure, big mirrors in each booth, shampoo and conditioner were provided! The location is also great - you are just a couple of minutes from the beach. The hosts were also really friendly. They are opening a cafe soon too but in the meantime there is kingsleys next door for roti and coffee in the morning which is delicious.

There was nothing I didn’t like! As a new hostel it will obviously take time for people to start booking in in large numbers, so if you’re looking for a party hostel it might not be the place for you (right now) but if you want to stay somewhere very clean, beautiful, chilled and close to all of the action for a great price then you won’t regret staying here!
