Our hosts were great! Nava and his wife made our stay very comfortable. We had both dinners at the homestay and they were very yummy. They assisted us with any questions and helped us with all our transport. The views are amazing!

Sehr nette, zuvorkommende Hosts. Da wir nicht die üblichen Touristen-Dinge tun wollten, konnten sie uns aber nicht wirklich helfen bei der Planung. Das Nachtessen, das man dazubuchen kann, ist hervorragend. Top 3 der Currys, die wir auf der vierwöchigen Reise hatten. Warme Dusche. Das Zimmer ist relativ einfach, aber für den Preis völlig okay. Die Aussicht ist atemberaubend.

Man hört die Hauptstrasse in der Nähe relativ gut. Die Strasse ist dort sehr steil, weshalb die Leute auf der Strasse stark beschleunigen müssen. Das hat uns in der Nacht etwas gestört. Das Zimmer ist zudem kaum isoliert, so dass man alles hört. In der ersten Nacht war noch relativ lang Musik in der Nachbarschaft.

The view from the terrace alone was worth the trip — waking up to those green hills in Haputale was something special. But honestly, what made this stay was Nava and his wife. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was incredible — warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. I was dealing with a personal issue during my stay, and the two of them went above and beyond to help me through it, checking in and making sure I had what I needed. That kind of care is rare to find. The place itself was spotless and comfortable too. I couldn't recommend this stay enough — if you're lucky enough to be hosted by Nava and his wife, you're in great hands.

Die Gastfamilie war so unglaublich nett. Sie haben mir geholfen, alles zu organisieren, was ich in Haputale machen wollte und haben sich richtig für mich ins Zeug gelegt. Am Ende haben sie mir sogar Obst für meine Weiterreise geschenkt. Das Zimmer hat alles, was man braucht. Luxus braucht man keinen zu erwarten, aber das Preis Leistungsverhältnis ist super. Man kann zu Fuß gute Restaurants erreichen. Und vom Zimmer aus hat man einen unbeschreiblichen Blick in die Weite.

Hostitelia boli naozaj milí a cítili sme sa u nich dobre. Izba a kúpelňa bola čistá s pekným výhľadom. Využili sme aj odvoz na letisko. Odporúčame!

Behulpzame en vriendelijke gastheer en -vrouw. Tegen kleine vergoeding kon ik mijn wandelkleding laten wassen, wat fijn was na een lange wandeletappe van de Pekoe-trail. Ik heb hier 2 extra dagen erbij gepakt om wat meer van de omgeving te zien. Er is genoeg te zien/te doen. Eenvoudige kamer met uitzicht, goede prijs-kwaliteit verhouding.

Locatie ligt hogerop en is daardoor verder van de weg verwijderd, maar je hoort goed de verkeersdrukte van deze ondergelegen weg. Aangezien er nét op dit punt een stijging van de weg is,, moeten met name de vractwagens kracht zetten en dat hoor je goed. Het is niet echt echt rustig zitten op je balkon. In de nacht valt het overigens mee met het verkeer.

Невероятно красивое место с обворожительным видом, очень добродушные хозяева, все чисто и аккуратно, однозначно советуем, по дороге на водопад Диялума очень удобно остановиться. Хозяева приготовили за дополнительную плату вкусный завтрак

A very friendly family stay, made us feel welcome and we are really delicious healthy food, lots of very tasty fresh vegetables, the best. Close enough to walk in to Haputale.

部屋はとても綺麗で水回りも清潔でした。オーナー夫婦はとても優しく、朝食と夕食をオプションでつけましたがとても美味しかったです。ホテルの下のメイン道路からバスに乗ることもできました。景色がとてもいい場所にあるので何もせずお茶を飲みながら景色を眺めるのにもぴったりだと思います。

Ontzettend aardige mensen! Wij gingen de pekoe-trail (3 dagen voor 11-12-13) lopen en de eigenaar was zo aardig om onze grote bagage helemaal op te halen in Nuwara Eliya. Zo kwamen wij na Pekoe-12 aan in Haputale waar onze bagage al stond. Super! Goede locatie, mooi uitzicht en lekker balkon. Ook lekker eten!

Het is eenvoudig maar helemaal niks mis mee!

Ein sehr familiär geführtes Gästehaus. Preis-Leistung Top. Gandhi und Nawa erfüllten mir jeden Wunsch. Mein Highlight jedoch war, mit den beiden mein eigenes Curry zu kochen. Immer wieder gerne nocheinmal Thumb up Family Rest.

The hosts are soo nice and kind and lovely. The view is beautiful and the room very very clean. They also brought me to the bus station in the next city. Thank you for everything

Mein Zimmer war leider nicht mit Ausblick aufs Tal aber man konnte die Gemeinschaftsterrasse nutzen sowie für den Ausblick aufs Dach gehen

Sehr liebe, hilfsbereite Gastgeber, von denen wir viel über Haputale und seine Bewohner erfahren haben. Auch haben sie uns Tipps für eine wunderschöne Wanderung direkt ab der Unterkunft gegeben. Nava hat uns sogar zu unserem nächsten Ziel gefahren und Gandhi ist eine hervorragende Köchin. Tolles abwechslungsreiches und authentisches Essen. Beste Aussicht, sauberes, funktionales Zimmer mit warmer Dusche. Vielen Dank für die unvergessliche Zeit!

Nichts

This is a lovely little home stay, it offers just a basic, local, but comfy room & all you need is there. Clean towel, blanket (it gets a bit cold at night), hot water, water cooker & tea, super friendly hosts with enough basic English and the best view possible. Nice Sri Lankan breakfast is possible on request. It’s 15/20 min walk from town but tuktuk easy to get if you don’t want to walk- add the nr and whatsapp the guy & he’ll take you anywhere (pick me doesn’t work well in ella region). The whole area is super beautiful, visited Lipton’s Seat area & tea factory from here and would recommend!

A very welcoming and friendly couple run Thumbs Up guesthouse. The beds are very comfortable, the room is clean and the shower is very good. Location is only 10 minutes walk to the town. We had a really nice dinner and breakfast here, some of the beat cooking we've had in Sri Lanka. Thank you also for letting us use the washing machine and driving us to our next stop. Would highly recommend staying here.

Great, clean room with an amazing view from your private balcony. So peaceful overlooking the tea plantation.Yet, only 15 min walk to all restaurants and Hapulle town center. The owner, Gandie and her husband, are kind. Such caring & nice people that make you feel home. I will be happy to stay there again.

Comfortable, basic accommodation. Our hosts, Nava and Ghandi, were helpful and friendly. Good food Location is a short distance from the centre (300 rp) tuk tuk ride) which made it quiet.

Je recommande cet hébergement. Les propriétés sont très accueillants et les repas sont fabuleux.

Отель расположен в красивейшем месте Хапутале. Вид со двора просто потрясающий. Смотровая площадка в пешей доступности, но виды из самого отеля и поблизости гораздо лучше, чем из смотровой площадки. Въезд удобный, на тук-туке можно въехать прямо до крыльца, так что, если дождь, не промокнете. Хозяева очень приятные интеллигентные люди. Хозяйка чистоплотная, матрасы новые, белье чистое, все было аккуратным и удобным. Смело рекомендую.

Super friendly and lovely owners. They made me a great dinner and packed breakfast for a good price. The room is clean and comfortable. It's a bit of a walk from the railway station, but also walkable from the Haputale Main Viewpoint for amazing views. When the tuk-tuk driver didn't show up in the morning, the owner drove me to Lipton's Seat (would recommend going and then walking down to Dambatenne Tea Factory!) Overall great value!

Highly recommend.Amazing and kind hosts. The view to the valley is stunning. Room was clean and renovated. Toilet and shower as well. It is about 10 min walk from the town centre. You can rent a scooter there as well.

The family are so friendly and attentive that you immediately feel part of the family. The location is slightly outside of town but the walk to and from town has quite an incredible scenery. Plus you get away from the busy area and can sit on your own balcony watching the sunrise or sunset - beautiful. The room has been newly renovated and is exceptionally clean with new bedding and pillows. The kettle in the room is an added bonus with plenty of teabags to satisfy you during your stay. The beds are extremely comfortable and big. The shower is very good and is hot with good pressure. Great for exploring the local area and we caught local buses to Lipton's seat, the Tea factory and Diyaluma Waterfalls. Dinner and Breakfast are offered by the hosts and we would suggest speaking with the host early into your stay to make arrangements. Tip - in Haputale go behind the Bus Stand and there is a minibus that takes locals all the way to Lipton's Estate. Leaves at 10:30 and comes back at 14:00 - 200 Rupees per person. To get to the waterfalls get Bus Number 322 to Wellawaya which stops on the road outside the homestay. Leaves Haputale at 07:30. 150 Rupees per person. From Diyaluma get any bus back to Beragala Junction and then transfer to any bus heading to Bandarawela or Haputale. This is a truly wonderful homestay and we would recommend it to everyone wishing to stay in Haputale. Quite beautiful and special.

Value for money. Nice room with views, good walking possibilities in the surrounding. Beautiful surrounding, good breakfast, very nice hosts, waterboiler and tea and sucker in the room, hot shower. Go with the local bus (behind the main road) to Lipton tea factories. Beautiful views, a lot of tea plants. The factory is oke to visit. Nice to go up from there to ‘Lipton seat’. With sunrise it is often a great view. We saw only mist. But still we enjoyed the ‘outing’ a lot. We liked also the balconies and nice chairs to sit everywhere. 1 km from town. We walked.

Everything was fine. The price is comparable. The room is rather small but we liked it a lot, with windows and good views. The waterpressure is everywhere rather low. All accommodations are on a road or between two roads. This location was just in between the roads. You hear traffic, but this was oke to us and no other options, or far away.

My stay at Thumb Up was truly special! Ghanty made me feel really welcome and at home, the atmosphere is one of familiality and kindness towards their guests. The room was clean and very comfortable, perfect to settle in after a long day of exploring Haputale and the beautiful nature around it with a scooter you can rent directly from them. Watching the sunset from the roof terrace overlooking the tea plantations and hills really rounded off every day and made my stay even more enjoyable. If you‘re looking to stay in Haputale, this is the place!
