Beautiful location, comfortable and clean.
Nothing
Nice newly renovated bathroom
overall Hotel felt dated and in need of renovation. Bed mattresses were far too soft, unsupportive and overall were not comfortable. Windows had old paint chipping off and required block of wood to keep sash window open
Exceptional bar food and breakfast
Great location, hot tub and sauna great after motorcycle trip
Shower leaks out the bathroom door, so used up lots of towels to prevent carpet getting wet.

The views from the hotel.
The bedroom was small and the windows need updating. Extractor fan in bathroom not working .
I liked the location plus the staff were nice. The bedroom was nice too. There was plenty parking.
I didn't like that we had to book in for breakfast in advance. Plus, the outdoor hot tub was out of action when we got there-the Saturday of the August bank holiday weekend, and I wasn't notified of this in advance, nor was it on the website. Only got told when I enquired about it after checking in. Had chosen the hotel because of the hot tub amenity, so we were disappointed, not to be able to use it. The alternative as per the receptionist was for us to use the other facilities of the spa but that closed at 6 pm on Saturday and didn't open till 10 am on Sunday, which didn't suit us. Plus a couples massage wasn't possible. As well as that, the vegetarian options for lunch were limited, and the price for the night was too expensive, given that not all the facilities were available.
Excellent location, comfortable room and professional staff.
Nothing.
The location was good. Close to ferry for Garnish island and the town.
The bedrooms were smal.l reception staff was not overly friendly. you have to pay extra to use the spa facilities 15 euro for half an hour .considering we spent 120 euro each on our accommodation.very poor. I expected this to be included . At breakfast you made your own tea and coffee .very poor .the carpets in the main area were stained . the bar had no rosé wine & was small. Food wasn't good value for money.
Very friendly staff and the breakfast was great.
There is a lift but there is also a lot of stairs. While the breakfast is great the dinner is very poor.

Nice location, good food
Very run down and not very clean
The staff were very polite and helpful, they seemed to lack hospitality training which you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
The reception was beautiful and quaint and very old world-ly. It was immaculately clean. There was a small office just at the back of the reception and there was a staff member literally shouting whilst on the phone. It was so off-putting and it destroyed the whole atmosphere. This staff member was on numerous occasions roaring on the phone, quoting prices and discussing bookings. It was just a ridiculous scenario.
Excellent location , bed room very comfortable young staff attentive and friendly.
For the three times we ate there the staff remove plates before everyone has finished eating …more acceptable for table of two but even cleared main course dishes for dinner for seven people
Sea view was exceptional. Breakfast was excellent. Bar was small and underwhelming
Great location and spa is a lovely setting. The staff was lovely very helpful and it had stunning views.
Very dated needs a little bit of renovation and rooms to the back of the hotel overlooking a yard and it's not very well kept.. found it expensive but it was a busy time this weekend for rowing and swim so presume that's why the price was high .
EVERYTHING
+ As the weather had been very exceptionally warm there should have been a sheet available in the room to act as a blanket. There was only a duvet and a dressing gown. The duvet was way too hot so I used the dressing gown as a blanket.
Good location and free off street parking. Large room and very quiet.
Nothing negative.
Location was good some of the waiting staff where pleasant.
Very tiny room for two. Torn curtains. Bad/dirty smell throughout. Food Very poor breakfast poor stale tasteless scones. Windows in room in poor state torn dirty curtain. Very small and hot.
Great breakfast, cracking location
Bar food mediocre at best

Location was beautiful, staff were quiet pleasant and friendly..
Food was flavourless, limited choice and overpriced. Breakfast was poor, no great selection of coffee. Selection of fruit and breads disappointing. Room was crampted and ensuite was tight.
Ein sehr schönes Zimmer bzw. Zwei Zimmer mit verbindungstür als familienzimmer. Sehr gutes Frühstück und ein tolles Ambiente
Fabulous location and friendly staff
Decor, is rather dated, cobwebs in the main light fitting in my room.
Food for dinner was poor
Location
Got stuck in elevator They gave me a key to a room which was occupied by someone else when I opened door Milk sachet was opened and not fresh that was left in room No shower gel Key didn’t work in door twice
Great location. Very comfortable and clean. Beautiful views of the bay
Service at dinner was quite slow and not a wide selection on the menu. Vegetarian breakfast was poor.
Lovely location. Nice room and foyer
Bar food was not as good as expected. Seats in bar torn in places
Breakfast was amazing and staff went above and beyond can’t wait to go back
Loved everything
Brilliant location.breakfast was lovely.
No pool
Lovely location, excellent dinner and breakfast
Room too hot could not sleep even with duvet off
Lovely location overlooking Glengarriff bay. Old world charm. Restaurants and Bar food was good and I had an excellent omelette for breakfast too. Bar staff and Breakfast staff were excellent . Room was well supplied with robe, slippers and good toiletries Location is good for exploring Beara peninsula
It was during a heat wave and my room at the back was like an oven and the window only opened 2 inches. *Minor complaint..the cord for the blinds was on the wrong side so you had to climb over the bed each time to use it.
The hotel is full of character and history. It’s very well maintained and tastefully decorated. The bedroom was lovely, comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. The setting is beautiful, and we were lucky to have our delicious breakfast with an amazing sea view
I liked everything!
breakfast was fine and young man in Bar late on Wed night got me a sandwich despite Reception saying all was closed.
No Air Condition, No fan, no phone in room, bedside lights on wall broken, bed side reading lamps had wires on pillows from plugs in the centre of the bed head. Temp in rook 30 degrees. Room overlook a dirty yard with plastic bags, wheel barrow full of dirty garden stuff and other dirty papers, etc in this yard....a breeding ground for rats. Coffee machine pod filled small cups in the room so full one could not move them. I called reception on my mobile - she said there was a phone in the room and a fan....lies.... I told her again there was no phone or fan.... and again requested another room, she disconnected my call..she said the house was full.....another lie... No reply from the phone when I called back...She checked me in a large dark haired Irish girl from Galway. At 4 am I went down to the veranda overlooking the sea and while there a man came washing the furniture and the area. I had to go into the sitting area...he almost washed me away. At 7 am I went for a walk, the new reception person {a foreign dark haired girl) checked and told me a room was free but not for single people for couples. Only small dark rooms facing the cliff and yard were for my type. I asked to speak to a Manager - told he may be there around 9 am. She printed out a complaint form. One could not read the print out.... I again asked for another room she say maybe but it would be facing the dirty yard the sea view is only for families. I checked out....most unhappy with the standard of service, attitude and lies.
We got a very small double room actually the smallest double room I ever stayed in... We had for in the bar i got seafood pie portion for main course was like a starter...It was all potatoes and cream very little fish ....
Convenient
Stairs a little awkward to navigate
Location,staff
Single room was v.small and hot!!
Setting
No air con
Beautiful setting, very welcoming and lovely staff. Comfortable and up to date.
Although the beautiful ensuite bathroom was obviously very recently installed there is no where to put your toilet bag or toiletries. No shelf, nothing. Also they should have a notice to inform the guest that they need to run the tap for a VERY long time to get any hot water.
Location is great
The food in the restaurant for dinner was terrible. Not fresh and bad. The pork dish I had the purée tasted like citric acid or maybe vinegar powder. The cheese board was horrible the hard cheese was like rubber, the blue cheese looked like it had been frozen and was reheated. You really could not deceive it. The staff on reception are not friendly. They didn’t even say to anyone did you enjoy your stay…. Safe home.. nothing. The room glass window was cracked also. We had to drive to Kenmare to get good food. The Breakfast in this hotel is good but the food in the restaurant is bad…..
Lovely historical hotel
Nothing
The Eccles Hotel and Spa is vast, with many guests and seating areas. The breakfast was ample and delicious, with self-serve cold items as well as hot items to order from the menu. The room pillows were my favorite.
This trip was a celebration of my friend’s 80th birthday. I was sure to get a place with an elevator since she walks with a cane. The problem was that the elevator took you to a floor, but because of the vastness of the various levels, she still had to walk up and down 19 steps, and go an extensive distance to get to our room. I felt bad for her. The halls were not clearly marked with how to get back to reception (there was only one sign), and the elevator doors were not marked as well. (It was like a maze.) In addition, our view was of the dirt/plant/working/yard portion of the hotel, so we listened to someone rolling up what sounded like a water hose the night before, and also a truck coming for a load the morning we were trying to sleep in. (There was no sleeping in.) Our stay definitely did not feel calm and spa-like whatsoever.
We had a great view of the sea from our room, beds really comfy and had a delicious dinner.
Hot tubs not working.
Spotless amd staff were great
The hotel has it's spirit, good location, big parking place. You can find gowns and slippers in your room, everything you need for a hot tea or coffee. It is very clean. I liked the food at the bar, the vegetarian dishes were delicious and original. Breakfast was very good, many options, tasty. You can have it with a view to a beautiful bay.
I was disappointed when I didn't get the spa service that was the reason I chose this hotel. The jacuzzi didn't work, and you have to book in advance and pay extra for the sauna (10€ for a half an hour for a person) and it is open only till 6pm. It's disappointing that spa treatments aren't included in the price of a rather luxurious hotel. I paid for my stay in advance and I felt unsafe when they asked me for my bank card details - they wrote down the number and code.
We absolutely loved our stay at Eccles Hotel and Spa and talk about it all the time! It was like stepping into a movie and back in time! It is an historic grand old hotel with the ambience you would expect of that kind of place. A lovely dining room with wonderful service and professional, considerate staff. Our room was small but looked over the water and, while parts of the hotel could use some updating, we wouldn't change a thing and would love to go back! It is also a beautiful drive through the mountains from Glengarriff to Kenmare and we had the best couple of days!
Terrace restaurant.
Bar wasn't great.
The best bed and pillows we have had on our month long trip
Nothing
The breakfast was good and we liked the history of the hotel and the location.
We didn’t have hot water in our room for the four days we stayed so as it was very inclement rainy and cold weather a hot shower would have been more then welcome We did not like the male manager of the bar staff who served us on the evening of Tuesday and Wednesday night. He was thoroughly condescending and if he saw us during the day completely ignored my friend and I. We are like sisters and have travelled extensively together over the last 30 years to many parts of Europe, Asia, Middle East in 5 and 4 star hotels and as anyone know unpleasant or unwelcoming staff are the biggest headache and leave a so/so memory of a hotel that should have be remembered with extremely fond memories.
The welcome, the hospitality.
The steps...
Location and classic design
Room
Bedroom & bathroom was clean & comfortable. Lots of Parking available. Staff were friendly. Lunch in the bar was good. Temperature in the room was comfortable, the weather was warm. Spa treatments, massage and facial were very good. I would highly recommend a massage. The outdoor spa area is a bit tired looking and has alot of potential to really impress. It is a shame, as had a fantastic experience otherwise regarding our treatments. The staff were very polite and friendly in the spa.
Breakfast was very dissapointing. We ordered a full Irish and I couldn't eat 80% of what was on the plate. The scrambled egg was rubbery and the mushrooms and bacon were very overdone. The breakfast had hints of being sat under a heat lamp for too long. This was very dissapointing given that we ordered off the breakfast menu. Ordering breakfast off a menu at a hotel usually guarantees freshly made, dishes served directly to your table, unlike breakfast self serve buffets. Our breakfasts were most definitely not freshly made to order. Another tell tale sign was, how quickly the staff served the cooked breakfast. It came out within a few minutes of ordering. I hadn't had time to look at what fruit/yoghurt options were on offer. We stayed mid week out of school holidays in May. The hotel seemed quiet (not too many guests) and there were at most, six tables dining at the same time as us for breakfast. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel however, I would certainly give breakfast a miss if we were to ever return. It really was not worth the extra cost.
Breakfast was really good, we had plenty of choices. The staff were pleasent and were happy to share their local knowledge on places to visit.
We stayed over on an exceptionally hot day and room fans in the front rooms wouldn't have gone a miss.
Checkin was goed. Schone kamer
Eten. Zowel het diner als ontbijt was middelmatig.
Lovely large lobby? Old school feel. Right on the bay with great views outbthe windows. Really liked our stay at the hotel and the tour of the Beara Peninsula as well. Highly recommend!
