全体的に綺麗だが、共有スペースのタオルやゴミなどいつ回収してるんだろう…？っていう感じで、ぱっと見たときに気づかないところの掃除行き届いていない感じはしました。

Absolutely stunning location. I loved the old school grandma kind-of vibe of the place with the old photos and all. Bed was comfy, blackout curtains in each bunk bed was very welcome. Manager was super attentive and flexible to help when needed. Overall I'd say 10 out of 10

The building felt a tiny bit dated, but hey for the amount of facilities available (gym, pool table, 2 kitchens, free pressed coffee, etc) I can't complaint

Good value for money and warm for the middle if winter; good centre village location

Definitely a bit tired, needs some tlc, but clean and tidy

The beds were so comfy & room was super warm. Didn't end up using these things unfortunately but loved that there was a pool table, a hot tub, board games, and morning tea available.

Only thing I can think of are the showers, they were absolutely fine just didn't like them because of the lack of space within the shower itself.

Basic accomodation in a quite old motel, but the room was really warm. Shared toilet and shower. Kitchen available, quite old but functional with free rice, pasta, oats, coffee, tea and sugar.

The room had a little moist smell. The common kitchen/dining room was quite cold

L’auberge est idéalement placée, il est très facile de se garer, la chambre était spacieuse et bien agencée. La cuisine commune est très grande et bien équipée, avec sa salle de repos. Un très bon point de chute !

Pas assez de douches, l’eau chaude n’est pas très chaude.

Friendly manager willing to take time out of his busy day to chat to guests. Good car parking. Location is good, nice walks locally.

The whole property is very dated,our en-suite especially. The main kitchen relies on guests cleaning utensils, trays etc, these could’ve done with a good deep clean. The oven door didn’t close tightly so wouldn’t warm up adequately. It’s well used!

Laundry definitely needed some maintenance

L'accueil est top, on a du café et des petits cakes à disposition. Le lieu est agréable et bien situé. Les lits sont vraiment confortables et il fait super bon dans la chambre.

Chateau backpakers tiene una buena ubicación. Lo mejor es que sirven bollos con te o café para el desayuno y la merienda. La persona en recepción es agradable. Buenas vistas

The location was great, comfortable beds and easy parking. Lovely gesture of tea and coffee with a pastry in the morning.

The bathroom was a bit tight and with the sliding door a bit wobbly. Nothing we couldn’t cope with

Friendly, informative staff, comfortable double bed, easy walk to all village amenities. Complimentary oats in the shared kitchen is a nice touch.

Great location, kitchen facilities great with everything you need, complementary staples as well as coffees cakes etc. Host was very helpful and clearly working hard to be on top of everything.

Property is outdated, although price was reasonable, the room did feel a little uncomfortable and could be cleaned to a higher standard.

The rooms could do with a bit of a deeper clean. Would have been appreciated to not have the rooms open prior to arrival to prevent insects coming into the rooms

Absolutely filthy. Room smelled really badly of damp and mildew, the whole place was tired and dirty. Our sheets weren't exactly clean, woke up with small bites all over my head (suspect bed bugs in pillow), kitchen facility dirty, shower/toilet block shared by 3 rooms, tired, didn't want to use shower. Reception area shut before times of closing, roof in dining area close to reception leaking. We had paid for 2 nights, left after one night but couldn't find staff to raise our concerns. Avoid at all cost

Ampi spazi, parcheggio coperto per biciclette, staff molto disponibile. Caffè, tè e piccoli snack offerti ai clienti. Abbiamo avuto bisogno di un late check out e il responsabile si è adoperato per venirci incontro.

Pulizia un filino approssimativa. Niente di grave, ma non curatissimo.

It is a bit 'old and tired. Bed not all that comfortable.

Gute Lage, nett eingerichtet. Bei der Einrichtung hat man sich Mühe gegeben. Nette Idee Nudeln, Reis und Haferflocken kostenlos zur Verfügung zu stellen. Wir wurden freundlich und mit guten Tipps empfangen.

Nicht sehr sauber. Die Unterkunft war einer der eher schmutzigen Variante. Oberflächig wird gereinigt aber hin und wieder sollte man auch etwas mehr säubern. Im Zimmer waren spinnen und Spinnweben die hingen da vermutlich länger. Die Küche war solala sauber.

Really friendly and helpful staff, gave us great recommendations for our trip and onward journey too. Facilities are great, well stocked kitchen with cupboard staples available. Afternoon tea and snacks also provided! Really enjoyed our stay.

It is quite outdated but we felt it added to the charm of the hostel!

Heel motel vol hikers, maar ik denk dat de host alsnog de meeste stappen zet van allemaal; onvermoeibaar spant hij zich in om alles te verzorgen voor de gasten. Het is allemaal niet het nieuwste van het nieuwste, maar onze kamer was schoon. Prima bed en douche. De keuken bij de receptie was netjes, (die bij de dorms ietsje minder), iedere dag was er een complimentary snack en drink, super netjes! Bij mooi weer hadden we een spectaculair uitzicht vanaf ons zitje voor de kamer.

Dear Booking.com Customer Support Team, I am writing to formally lodge a serious complaint regarding my recent stay booked through Booking.com at Chateau Backpackers & Motels, Franz Josef, from 25 January to 27 January 2026. Booking confirmation number: 6322449325 This was an extremely distressing experience for my family and posed a clear health and hygiene risk. From the moment we entered the room, the conditions were unacceptable and far below basic accommodation standards: • Bed bugs were present • The room had spiders and a heavy infestation of mosquitoes • The room and surrounding areas were filthy and poorly maintained • There was a clear lack of proper cleaning and pest control across the property As a result, none of us were able to sleep properly for both nights. I personally suffered severe mosquito bites, leaving my leg swollen. More concerning was the impact on my young children, my wife, and my elderly mother, all of whom were extremely uncomfortable and distressed throughout the stay. This was not a matter of personal preference or inconvenience — it was a serious health and safety issue. A property in this condition should not be listed on Booking.com, particularly for families. I would also like to highlight that I have been a long-standing and regular user of Booking.com for many years, and I have always trusted the platform to provide accommodation that meets basic hygiene and safety standards. Unfortunately, this experience has significantly shaken that trust. If this matter is not resolved fairly, I will seriously reconsider using Booking.com for future travel. Due to the remote location and the fact that we were travelling with children and an elderly parent, relocating at short notice was not feasible. Given the seriousness of these failures and the health impact on my family, I am formally requesting: 1. A full refund for the entire stay, and 2. An urgent investigation by Booking.

I’m so sorry I didn’t take his name, but the manager was brilliant, really informative on things to do in the local area. The place is a bit tired, but you know about it from the photos when booking. Great price and location . The spa was an added bonus.

A large motel with beautiful rooms. The reception was very friendly and helpful. We received great hiking tips. The location is perfect and quiet. We would love to come back anytime.

The cleanliness of the room could have been better. There were a few cobwebs here and there that shouldn't have been there. But overall, it was acceptable.

Comfortable room that was well equipped, clean and lovely view of Franz Josef.

Incredible location and a treat seeing the snowy mountains when you left the room in the morning! Complimentary oats, pasta and rice was a lovely touch, as well as home baked treats for the morning and afternoon. The host was so lovely and ridiculously hard working, doing everything himself! Would recommend

A little dated but not a problem!

Spacious room, free parking and good location right in Franz Josef.

Everything is very old, the place needs serious maintenance. The mattresses are terrible, very very soft and uncomfortable. The minimum is to have good mattresses so guests can rest properly.

The location was great. Parking was very accessible and close to my room.

Cockroach in the kitchenette, which was next to the bed. Bathroom was not as clean as it might be. The shower temperature was very difficult to control and I have a 2 year old so she basically had to have it on cold so it didn't turn to hot instead of warm. Dangerous.

The accomodation was close to everything that you might need in Franz Josef. It had a fridge within our room and the shared kitchen was well equipped.

The maintenance and cleanliness was not not as it should be. The motel is old and not well maintained. We removed by ourselves lot of spider-nets within the room. There are few newer things here and there but overall the general state of the motel was not ok.

We wisten dat er geen ontbijtservice was, locatie zelf was prima. Omdat dit het enige was dat we nog konden reserveren namen we genoegen met de status van onderhoud en hygiëne. Het is immers een backpackersmotel. Gastheer was vriendelijk en behulpzaam.

De hygiëne viel tegen, de staat van onderhoud. Dit was deels te verwachten.

It has a great atmosphere and is located very well. Everything is simple but decent and especially the host made it an extra nice stay, even baking fresh complimentary snacks.

Still, the rooms are quite a bit outdated and could be cleaner.

I really enjoyed my stay at the chateau backpackers. It’s a nice hostel with a lot of different facilities (hot pool and small fitness centre) and on a good day, the mountains were visible out of the kitchen. The staff is really helpful and friendly. I really appreciated that the owner baked delicious muffins and scones for his costumers

Tolle Lage. Supermarkt schnell zu Fuß erreichbar. Tee, Kaffee und ein kleiner Snack zu bestimmten Zeiten in dem Raum vor der Küche. Free Food Box in der Küche.

Musste relativ weit die Straße runter parken. Sanitäre Anlagen waren zwar an sich sauber, aber in den Ecken wird nicht sauber gemacht. Der kleine Mülleimer bei der Toilette war extrem voll und wurde die 3 Tage, die ich da war, nicht geleert! Kühlschrank in der Küche ist definitiv zu klein. Matratze war viel zu weich.

Great reception and continual support from Chris the manager and general dogsbody! Good location. Quiet nights sleep. Great shower.

Es ist halt ein Hostel, da darf man nicht so in die Ecken gucken. Wenn man es doch tut... besser Hausschuhe/Flipflops dabei haben.
