The rooms were tidy, but the rooms definitely need renovations as well as the bar area outside. We enjoyed the tickle tub and the food. Thank you chef! The deserts(malva pudding and brownies) were a little bit raw.
Bed was comfortable, we got upgraded to a 2 bedroom which was more than enough for a family of 3 . Breakfast and dinner was inclusive which made travelling affordable
Main road is still under construction so give yourself enough travel time for stop and go

Canoeing place was so dirty ,kids playground was poorly maintained ,the vegetation around, the carpets smell, the bar with limited beverages,no activities after breakfast, the sunset drive was really not appetizing at all ,area has dilapidated the wooden floor next to the bar is broken, management of that place must be serious that area has potential but its not looked after, the breakfast could be kept warm only if they have warmers

Reviewed May 4, 2026Everything was perfect for a couple's getaway, it was nice and quiet. We had a nice buffet on Saturday that felt literally like home, comforting and they had a good variety of choices. The salads were fresh and so was breakfast. We had a good room which was further than the rest as it was full when we arrived on Saturday but were moved to a much better room on Sunday night as there were a lot of guests that checked on that morning. It was really appreciated as it had better lighting,a bit bigger and closer to the pool and bar. The staff was very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Oupa is truly a gem, Bab"Solly was my highlight of my entire stay. He prepared a nice hot bath for us and me & Hubby really enjoyed it under the stars, Sir you are truly amazing and keep on being the gentleman that you are. Christo thank you for the hospitality and for the much deserved Game Drive that you took us on this morning, we managed to reconnect in nature and definitely feels like I came home with a new Husband 🤣 Overall, Siyabonga, Rea leboga, Baie Danke🙏

Reviewed Apr 14, 2026I loved that the rates included half-board which meant I didn't need to arrange meals for my family. Breakfast and dinner were nice. The food was tasty and there was sufficient variety to suit most tastes. The staff were friendly and helpful. The swimming pool is well kept but unfortunately not heated so we couldn't make use of it.
The facilities are a bit tired and run down. The pool table in the entertainment area needs to be replaced and I didn't feel like the bar stocked enough drinks. The "viewing deck" is not operational with no explanation given. There is a jumping castle for small kids that is old and a bit dirty. The jungle gym is not accessible due to a huge marshy area that has formed in that area. The common areas need to be maintained a bit better - I know it's a game lodge in the "bush" but there are areas where spider webs need to be cleaned and decor items need to be dusted. The TV in our unit did not work and although it was reported it was never attended to. There was no dessert served on our third night (a Sunday) with no explanation given. If you discourage your guests to bring any food onto the property then you need to ensure that you provide meals as promised. The lunch menu is non-existent. I was able to arrange a toasted sandwich for my kids for lunch, and luckily a milkshake each but it first had to be established if there was enough ice-cream to make 2 milkshakes. It should also be noted that the "bike trails" advertised do not exist. There is no marked trail, and the terrain is not really suitable for mountain biking which was a disappointment.
The configuration of the 4 sleeper units could be better. The "kitchen" is huge and serves no purpose since it's not self-catering accommodation. There are tea/coffee making facilities in the unit but items are not restocked and there is no shop on the property to purchase your own. There were 4 tea cups provided (no saucers) and ONE teaspoon. No other crockery and cutlery to be seen (in some old water damaged kitchen cupboards).
For me (and this is entirely my own opinion), when I go on holiday I look forward to accommodation and facilities that are either on par with my own home comforts or better. For this reason I found Ditholo Lodge to be lacking.

The staff where very helpful and tried their best, especially Jimmy and Frans. Just a pity the GM Christo was an outright liar.
The place is run down, the game viewer we where told is broken, we then got a game drive on a game viewer falling apart as well at 30km an hour because Christo did not want to do it. All activities advertised did not happen even after I addressed it on my first day. Garbage was everywhere and the excuse was it is the monkeys, I have been to many lodges with monkeys and the places always made a plan to keep the monkeys out. Staff was uninformed but really tried their best. We finally left a day early! Our rooms had to be moved. And all I hear from Christo is about other very important guests that he is busy with. I wonder what I need to do to get on that list? Is my money not the same as other guests?

A lot. Wifi not working in rooms, this was known to them. At the gate you pay R100.00. I was never told of this. Cleaners had to be spoken to very nicely by my wife and they outdone themselves the following day. Only manager and one waiter trying their best. Owners were overseas. The area where food is prepared is like garbage. Game Drive cars were not working and all trips were cancelled. Wife said the bar drinks were very expensive. TV was a problem. Every time you switch it on, you had to call the manager for his people to fix it. When loadshedding hit, it took me to go complain and ask where the back-up power was. Otherwise, they had not seen any need to communicate to us about any of that. I will never go there.
Everything was perfect, the lodge is well kept all staff were very kind and super helpful. Thank u especially to Jimmy, the bar man who provided exceptional service. Thank u to the guy who prepared the hot tub that was a super experience.
