Sani Pass View Cottage

I have never experienced such a warm welcome. Everything was provided for, from home baked bread, delicious fudge on the pillow, a well-stocked fridge and an evening carafe of sherry. Angie willingly shared her knowledge of the area (so many interesting facts beyond what one could ever research via conventional means) and what we were to expect on our booked trip into Lesotho making us most welcome and excited for what was to come.

It was perfect in every way.

What a beautiful place with a beautiful view. It was lovely to wake up too each morning! The owner was also lovely and left lots of provisions like eggs milk butter as well as lovely touches like sweets on the pillow. Has lots of modern amenities too including an air fryer. I loved my stay here and would have liked to have stayed longer

Everything was good

Everything! The place is beautiful and peaceful. It is close to all the amenities and there’s a beautiful view of the Drakensberg mountains. The host is amazing and the check in and checkout process is a breeze.

Hosts are extremely friendly, was greeted by the best tasting bread freshly baked, some fridge supplies and firewood. The cottage was exceptionally clean, cosy and felt like home. The morning and afternoon view of the mountains made us lazy to leave the bed with such an amzing view.

We received a loaf of fresh bread, and could use foodstuffs provided in the fridge (milk, juice, etc) at no extra charge. The owner is lovely, the view is wonderful and the room was clean and comfortable

The warmest welcome by the lovely hosts! There was firewood for the fireplace, milk, eggs & cheese in the fridge and a freshly baked bread waiting for us. The cottage has everything you need. The view over the Drakensbergen (Giant’s cup) and garden are wonderful.

Die ruhige Lage mit Aussicht auf die Berge ist einmalig, die Ausstattung ist super und der Empfang der Gastgeber sehr herzlich Als i- Tüpfelchen bekamen wir sogar frische leckere Lebensmittel geschenkt…rundum grandios!

Für mich der perfekte Ausgangspunkt, um am nächsten Tag auf meine Sani-Pass-Tour in Richtung Lesotho zu gehen. Das Haus hat eine super ruhige Lage mit toller Aussicht und bietet eine in jeder Hinsicht entspannte Atmosphäre. Es ist geräumig und hat alles, was man braucht. Vielen Dank an meine Gastgeber für den freundlichen Empfang und die vielen Annehmlichkeiten wie selbstgebackenes Brot, Lebensmittel, Obst, Saft... Ich habe mich sehr willkommen und wie zu Hause gefühlt. Schade, dass ich nur eine Nacht bleiben konnte.

It was probably our best stay in South Africa! We enjoyed it so much.

The only thing that was a bit weird is that bathroom towels were made of synthetic, not cotton. But probably the reason is that they dry faster.

Beautiful stay at the Sani Pass View cottage! Gorgeous view, so quiet and peaceful. Our host was lovely - she gave us great recommendations for the area and even treated us to homemade bread, as well as local cheese, eggs, butter and milk and fruit. Such a delight!

There is no aircon which wasn't a problem in late March, but could be troublesome for hot sleepers in warmer months. Windows remain open for cool air to come in.

Exactly what we were looking for, peaceful and quiet with beautiful views and an awesome outdoor fire pit. It was a nice touch to be left some freshly baked bread and goodies in the fridge. Excellent value for money.

I like that it’s self catering and the host provides FREE basics like eggs, milk, butter, milk, wood fire and even tasty fudge and sherry. It’s such a kind and thoughtful gesture. The views of the Sani Pass mountains are breathtaking.

Huisje in de tuin van Angie met prachtig uitzicht. Keuken/kamer en slaapkamer/badkamer. Van alle gemakken voorzien en spotgoedkoop. En ligt een heel brood voor je klaar, sap, melk, eieren, boter en kaas in de koelkast, fruit in de fruitschaal, chocolaatjes in een doosje op het bed en een karafje sherry als slaapmutsje. En ze regelt ook nog de Sanipas tour.

Miejsce świetne. Piękny widok. Wlaściciel przywitał nas bardzo serdecznie. Mila niespodzianka w postaci świeżego chleba, sera i owoców. Schłodzona woda i soki. Ogrodzony teren. Czuliśmy się bezpiecznie.

Ein liebevoll gestaltetes Cottage mit einem wahnsinnig schönen Blick auf die Berge. Es gab ein frisch gebackenes Brot, Eier, Käse, Butter, frischen O-Saft und Milch zur Begrüßung. Super freundliche Hosts, die sich sehr lieb gekümmert haben. Ein Highlight war die angebotene geführte Tour mit einem 4X4 den Sani-Pass hoch!!!! Jederzeit wieder !!!!

Alles. Ich kann meinen Vorschreibern in allen Punkten zustimmen. Die beste Unterkunft in SA, die ich je hatte. Sehr empfehlenswert.

Die Unterkunft liegt am Rande von Underberg in einer idyllischen, ruhigen Gegend. Das Häuschen befindet sich auf dem Privatgrundstück des Vermieters, welcher auch Sani Pass Touren anbietet, welche wir in Anspruch genommen und seeeeehr zufrieden waren. Es war eine wunderschöne Tour und können diese nur weiterempfehlen (sanipassprivatetours). Man hat auf der Terasse einen wunderschönen Ausblick über die Landschaft und kann dort den Abend super verbringen. Ein erstklassiges Restaurant liegt nur fünf Minuten mit dem Auto entfernt und die ganze Gegend ist sehr sicher. Die Gastgeber haben uns ein Brot gebacken und Aufschnitt für das Frühstück in den Kühlschrank getan. Ansonsten bietet die Unterkunft alles was man zur Selbstversorgung braucht und man könnte theoretisch sogar grillen. Es ist liebevoll eingerichtet und wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen. Ein Parkplatz befindet sich direkt neben dem Häuschen.

Fantastic view Well equipped Hospitality, fresh bread on arrival, fresh orange juice, cheese and butter

The cottage has everything you need for a few days visit. The view is beautiful. Angie is a lovely host. She provided juice, milk, butter eggs, bread and fruit. She also helped us to contact a mechanic when we had problems with our vehicle.

La vue extraordinaire, l'accueil chaleureux, les multiples petites attention comme des œufs, du pain frais, une corbeille de fruits, du jus d'orange, des chocolats. Tout était parfait confortable, calme. Pour couronner le tout, ils sont aussi organisateurs de tours privés dans le Sani Pass. Ce fut là aussi prodigieux. Une journée inoubliable avec un chauffeur guide fabuleux.

Ein sehr gepflegtes und sauberes Cottage in ruhiger Lage mit grandiosen Blick aus die Bergkulisse. Sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet! In Angie ist eine herzliche Gastgeberin. Hilfsbereit mit Rat und Tat. Das Cottage ist sehr gut ausgestattet und zur Begrüßung hab es Obst, Eier, Butter, Milch. Smoothies und... Einmalig! Der Garten ist bezaubernd und äußerst gepflegt. WLAN sehr schnell... Alles bestens. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Incredible scenic location, beautiful decor and spotlessly clean. Excellent location in town. Was here for a running race and I never sleep well the night before, yet it was so peaceful and comfortable here, I slept like a log. Lovely hot shower post-run as well.

Loved the place, it was very calming and peaceful. I traveled alone to Himeville got lost but thankfully Angie and her husband as well as the meter taxi guy really helped.

Stunning views and such a clean environment. Garden was beautiful and we even got welcomed with chocolates on the bed, lovely baked rye bread, fruits amd wayyyy more. Exceptional welcoming. Really felt at home!

What an absolutely wonderful stay! This far exceeded my expectations. The views and tranquillity are just incredible. It is the most picturesque little cottage with the most outstanding views out across the landscape which changes colour constantly - I was even greeted by a buck who darted across the fields. The hosts were so attentive and brought extra firewood and had even baked fresh bread and filled the fridge with milk, cheese, eggs and juice! Wonderful TV and wifi - absolutely everything you could want. And, although the hosts were very attentive they left you to enjoy the peace and quite without hassling you. Thank you for a dream time out - definitely a highlight of my time in SA!

Just everything about the place and the scenic.

I didn't see anything fitting any criticism.

The cottage was well-appointed cosiness personified, and with a congenial welcome from Angie and Greg, which included everything from unimpeded views over Hodgson's Peaks and the local farmlands to coffee and teas, fresh bread, milk, cheese and fruit, as well as pillow treats, one would scarcely needed to pack any food and drink for a romantic first night! The general furnishings were comfy and neatly co-ordinated in black and white. Kettle, toaster, microwave, mini oven, airfryer, mini fridge-and-freezer and hairdryer were all available, so the appliances more than met our basic needs. The towels were soft and snuggly after our steaming hot showers, and the pristine white linen and weighted blankets kept us toasty even as the winter temperatures plummeted in the wee hours. If the chess board, Mastermind, and supplied paperbacks weren't enough to keep us occupied in miserable conditions, Wifi, DSTV, Netflix and Youtube were on hand, and if we'd felt the need to commune with nature of an evening, a firepit and Weber braai would have taken the edge off a chilly night of stargazing. So impressed were we with Sani View Cottage that we sincerely hope our hosts will pencil us in for next Father's Day weekend before the hordes start the stampede for their door.

Being "townies" we struggled a little with getting the fire going in the indoor fireplace, but once Greg had given us a bit of his rural expertise, we were "A-for-away".

Angie went out of her way to make our first night of our honeymoon special with freshly baked bread, chocolate, fudge and a bottle of champagne. She was incredibly kind and the cottage was comfortable with a spectacular view.

Perfect location and the cottage was fully equipped with everything we could need. Angie the hostess made sure we are well taken care of and supplied everything that one could wish for on a short stay. She is also very knowledgeable on the conditions of the environment and gave as expert advice on what to expect on our journey/adventure up Sani pass the next day. A fantastic lady. Thanx Angie.

We were delighted with all the spoils in the cottage - fresh bread, cheese,, eggs, orange juice, milk, fresh fruit, and homemade choc fudge on bedside tables. The setting is absolutely magical with an uninterrupted view of the mountains, and Sani Pass. We could walk along a mown path beside a wetland, and enjoy the birdlife from our stoep. Highly recommend this private little cottage with all one could need.

Angie is an amazing hostess that goes above and beyond. Beautiful cottage that has everything you need and the most incredible views.

The cottage was beautifully laid out. We were surprised with so many delicious treats, which was totally unexpected. The fresh bread, fruit and cheese were a welcome treat to weary travellers.

The location is beautiful. Not only is Himeville an idyllic and peaceful village, but the cottage is located at the edge of the village, offering residents uninterrupted views across verdant fields where birds frolic, towards the majestic Drakensberg mountain range, a stone's throw from the "Kingdom in the Sky". (Lesotho)

It would of course be useful if there were an ATM in Himeville, bit this is out of the hands of the average permanent resident, I imagine. Since we were self-drive tourists, it was not too much of an undertaking to quickly drive to Underberg to obtain supplies. (We might have done this prior to arriving in Himeville, but hastened there in order to visit the museum before it closed at 3pm - and I might add that the museum is outstanding).

Lovely homemade bread, cheese, eggs and fruit made a lovely breakfast. Loved having the dogs come to visit us. Beautiful flowers growing all around . Decor is outstanding and the kitchenette had absolutely everything that we needed for our convenience and definitely the biggest bed I have ever slept in

A lovely host and we appreciated the unexpected extras

Lovely cottage nestled in the beautifull and safe town off Himeville. Peacefull setting with the most awesome view off Sani Pass in the distance. The cottage had more than we needed for an overnight stay. Angie spoiled us with homemade bread that we enjoyed immediately. Also there were treats on the bed and the fridge was stocked with everything we needed for breakfast.

The pictures were a true reflection of the cottage, it was a private space. The host was so wonderful, she even had some goodies in the cottage for us, the chocolate on the pillows were such a beautiful sight. The cottage was fitted with all the appliances one needs to make the stay so comfortable

The wifi was not working properly, but I guess that was because of the load shedding

This small house does all the important basics right: Internet 110%; Electricity and reliability 110%; Hot Water 100%; Water Pressure 95%. The view to the mountains is exceptional. The nearby town has good value restaurants: the Whistling Goat had especially good food for very reasonable prices. We came here as birders (one of us has a PhD; we've been studying and writing about birds for 30+ years. This is our third trip to South Africa and 5th trip to southern Africa). The local area for birds is wonderful...contact Stuart McLean who is from the area (bird guide for 30+ years) in order to find Flufftails, and any specialties of the Sani Pass/Lesotho part of the nearby park. He is a bargain! This small house is centrally located for birding and we would stay here again.

What we wish was better: it is a small house not sheltered from the sun...hence it was quite hot inside during the day. (We spent 6 days in early December 2024...temperature reached 32-35C [90-95F] each day (an unusually hot late spring). At night the house did not cool down...we were uncomfortable on several nights trying to sleep. Yes there are ceiling fans (good one in the bedroom)...but there are no screens on the windows, and insects were a nuisance at night. Also, impossible to cook in the kitchen/living room because of the heat. As this is the lodge's first year in business, we are sure they will make the small changes needed to insure comfort in extreme conditions. (If a heat pump [mini-split] unit could be installed that would make this place superb.) And a larger refrigerator...Owners are good, kind people who run tours to Sani Pass for a good price. We would stay here again.
