Room was small, the added wooden "shelf" around the bed made it quite difficult to move around.

Upon booking, I sent a request for late check out on bookings.com, received an approval response and got told I won’t be charged extra. When I called reception to ask what’s the latest time I can check out, the manager changed the story and said that I would need to be moved to another room and pay R800 per hour. She claimed that the response to my request was for the check in time… There are no extra charges for check in because I selected 2pm which is the standard. This misunderstanding between the hotel and bookings.com inconvenienced me.

I’d give a 11 out of 10 if it wasnt for the aircon and the shower. The main areas ( passage and stairs ) were hot and very humid - nothing an aircon can’t fix The shower was a bit too small , we struggled to close it and made a bit of a mess with water coming out. Could’ve used the bath tub ( stunning with views ) if we had enough time

Room size is amazing, the staff is very friendly, the closeness to the beach is amazing. Jacuzzi and pool are also very good.

Water pressure in the shower is abismal, and the bath tub takes more than an hour to fill up. Breakfast options could be better.

I had a lovely stay at North Star Hotel. The staff are exceptional - I was greeted by name and everyone appeared genuinely concerned to ensure that I was comfortable and having a good stay. The room was above expectations with extra inclusions not usually provided. I ate dinner at the hotel and it was extremely tasty. I also booked transport to the airport through the hotel and that was seemless.

The place is in excellent location if you enjoy the ocean but not only because the same offer accommodation with great sea view, bar and restaurant very reasonable , do it can be the right choices for vacation and business accommodations

The accommodation was really excellent! The staff was always ready to assist with anything and always had a pleasant demeanor. The food was good and the view and upkeep of the place was great! We were there with our kids and they had a blast! Will definitely return!

Not much not to like. Perhaps the stairs especially when coming with a big family and luggage, but the staff helped with everything. I do understand it maybe doesn't warrant to install a lift. Minor issue.

Ganz klar, hier gilt das Prinzip gewollt aber nicht gekonnt. Viele Details nicht durchdacht. Man versucht optisch in einer Liga zu spielen, die bei benutzen und genauem hinsehen nicht gehalten werden kann. Daher ist Preis /Leistung in keinem Verhältnis. Was sich auch daran erkennen lässt, dass wir die einzigen Gäste vor Ort waren. Das Hotel macht einen auf ‚sehr cool‘ für externe Gäste, die dann auch gut und gerne das Restaurant exklusiv nutzen dürfen bzw. Richtig laut Musik aufdrehen. Was für Hausgäste nicht in Ordnung ist. Uns wurden Abends kostenfreie Desserts ins Zimmer gebracht. Eine wirklich nette Geste. Allerdings waren alle Lichter im Zimmer an, als wir zurück kamen und wir hatten sehr viele Moskitos im Zimmer und wurden komplett verstochen… Viele vorherige Bewertungen schreiben von Schimmel. Wir konnten keinen sehen, man riecht es zeitweise und es schon sehr merkwürdig, dass generell alle Zimmer offen stehen gelassen werden. So, dass vermutlich alles gut durchlüftet wird.

The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. The room staff did a great job in cleaning our room and preparing it for the evening. Location is great and parking always available

we had breakfast included in our stay, but once you amend it, add an egg, or change anything , you pay for it. Both days i ordered a cortado instead of a cuppacino and was charged for it.. I didnt even have a juice.. very dissappointed in how this was handled and so unnecessary.

The property is right on the beach with a relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast and lunch was delicious. The staff are super helpful and friendly. The chef insisted on making us dinner when we returned after closing time. The minibar and extra treats were a welcome bonus. Parking on property available.

I would ask for a second floor room next time. Think this will give a bit more privacy.

The proximity to the ocean is so special, waking to the ocean views and sounds. The staff are so attentive and the property feels glam but also relaxed.

It gets noisy. The dinning area is below the rooms, so when they played music, it was as though the loud speakers were in my room. So much so, I could not even hear the tv in my room. Also, I wish I knew (1) it's a fishing area. Which means it's not necessarily a beach to relax and get into the water at. (2), beautiful view of the ocean, but it's at best 90° view, not 180°.

Check in process is horrible and very informal, you stand where it appears guys use the area as a make shift boardroom, and now you have to listen guys talking about strategies, profits and who slept with who at the last Christmas party! You need to separate this interaction, its like being interviewed in your mothers kitchen

Beware of fraud! First of all, it must be mentioned that the hotel is constantly holding events for external guests (business meetings, birthdays, restaurant...) so it can happen that it is quite crowded and loud or that you are not allowed to use the pool or that it is overcrowded with external guests. We were given a friendly welcome but when we entered the room we noticed that the ceiling was covered in mold from the air conditioning. My wife is allergic so this was an absolute no-go. We went to reception and a member of staff explained to us that they are constantly painting over it (wow, great solution). So it was clear that we didn't want to stay here anymore. We had paid for 3 nights and finally agreed with the hotel manager that 2 nights would be refunded and they would keep the first one (I think that's generous on our part and not just on the hotel's part). We even got the whole thing in writing and we were told the money would come within the next 14 days. Of course, nothing was refunded, and emails weren't answered (several times). We contacted Booking, but also no chance (which is actually crazy that this hotel is still allowed to be online). Booking ultimately refunded part of the amount as a gesture of goodwill, but the hotel didn't refund anything. Maybe you'll be lucky and there won't be any moldy rooms here, and maybe you'll be lucky and it won't be overcrowded either.But after a discussed and written confirmed payment was not made, this hotel is operating fraud and therefore you should think carefully about whether you want to stay here, what a pity for the nice people who work there

The views were just awesome! Beautiful property with gorgeous sights from every angle! The majority of the staff were friendly and attentive! The male staff kept the boys entertained and even played soccer with them. The cleaning ladies were wonderful and left the rooms in tip top condition. We had lots of water in the room. The rooms were neat and comfortable. Everything was neat and in working order which made our stay great. The owners were friendly enough and had the friendlies little boy there to play with my boys which was nice. The lady owner was kind enough to borrow me her laptop charger which I really appreciated! She offered us some entertainment for the kids in the area as she was aware that there is not much for the kids to do. The evenings were great as there were no crowds in the restaurant. The property is in a safe area and also well maintained.

They were not flexible with my request. My booking included breakfast because of the kids. I did inform that I personally do not eat breakfast and would like them to transfer the fee to a lunch or dinner voucher which are meals that I do take. This request was not entertained. Also, the owners spend all their time in the restaurant or around working. I found this to be very awkward, as if we were being watched. Maybe a back office for the owners would be great so that they are not always in the guests faces like the whole time. I mean they already have the Manager and the Finance lady sitting at the front desk so to have the owners there as well was awkward.

The key draw for this hotel is location. They're right on the beach with direct/easy access, in a great neighborhood and rooms have a balcony facing the sea which is awesome! The room was cute, nicely decorated but a tad bit of a tight fit for a couple.

Parking is very tight and limited. The water pressure was also on the low side (we were told that it was because the hotel was full; which isn't a good enough reason, quite frankly).

Beautiful rooms with views, literally on the beach, nice swimming pool, great food (breakfast and dinner), easily accessible and safe.

Reception/ manager states breakfast to be from 7:00, but kitchen is only ready at 7:30 that resulted in us missing one morning's breakfast. Miscommunication between staff, it seems.

As an architect I was pleasantly at all the details of this lovely hotel. The rooms were amazing, the views just incredible, the attention to detail- and the staff‘s effort to make us feel welcome and comfortable was really nice.

The design of this place has put the guest first, very well thought out. The location has spectacular views, quite literally on the beach. Very friendly staff. Hot chocolate was lovely and the breakfast was delicious.

Only one welcome piece of cake in a room booked for two... The peaks of the covering in the garden partially block the view from the first floor bedroom. There was no hot water for shower or bath in the morning and a leak appeared in the middle of the floor.

I enjoyed so many things about my stay here! North Star is a great balance between vibey and peaceful; not too big, not too small; not too simple, not too fancy! I've stayed here before and this is now my go-to venue for visits to Umhlanga / Durban-North. The pool and bar area are very inviting as are the gardens - for me the place is more beautiful than the website photos show. I loved the upstairs rooms - the views are wonderful. Service was great, and the place is fresh and clean. Much love and care invested in the venue. Easy access to highways and many parts of Durban, and great beach access.

location is used for functions , first day company lunch, second wedding function. Beautiful location, garden and pool area is quite full with outside guests and photographers etc. As a staying guest you don't find a peaceful moment outside your room.
