The White House

Dette var en utrolig opplevelse. Etter å ha tatt en tuktuk fra Haputale gjennom teplantasjene kom jeg frem til en helt fantastisk familie som drev dette stedet. Moren laget mat til meg og sønnen tok meg med på en tur til Lipton’s Seat og lærte meg så mye om teplantasjene. Jeg bodde i en liten hytte som var enkel og ren og med fantastisk utsikt. Jeg følte meg som hjemme og skulle ønske at jeg hadde hatt tid til å bli der flere netter! Familien hjelper deg med alt du trenger og kjørte meg ned til busstasjonen og hjalp meg på bussen.

10/10 – eine der schönsten Unterkünfte unserer gesamten Reise! The White House ist eine wunderschöne, ruhig gelegene Unterkunft mit einer ganz besonderen Atmosphäre. Der Garten fühlt sich wie eine kleine Dschungeloase an – mit Hängematten, einer gemütlichen Lounge Area und den Tischen des Restaurants mitten im Grünen. Alles ist liebevoll gestaltet und lädt einfach dazu ein, zu entspannen und den Aufenthalt zu genießen. Das absolute Highlight ist aber Rangan, der Gastgeber. Er ist mit Abstand einer der liebsten und großherzigsten Menschen, denen wir auf unserer gesamten Reise begegnet sind. Er sorgt mit seiner herzlichen Art dafür, dass man sich sofort willkommen und wohl fühlt. Egal, was man braucht oder unternehmen möchte – Rangan bietet ständig seine Hilfe und Unterstützung an, gibt tolle Empfehlungen für Aktivitäten und organisiert unter anderem auch Schnorchelausflüge. Die Zimmer sind sauber, gemütlich und erfüllen vollkommen ihren Zweck. Zusammen mit der schönen Lage, der einzigartigen Atmosphäre und vor allem der unglaublichen Gastfreundschaft ist das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis wirklich überdurchschnittlich.

Nous avons passé 4 nuits au White House, nous avons été très bien accueillis par l’hôte. Il a été adorable tout le long de notre séjour, et nous a donné de bonnes recommandations. Nous avons également fait une sortie snorkeling a Pigeon Island avec lui, nous recommandons cette sortie! Aussi le petit déjeuner est délicieux, ainsi que le poisson grillé pour le dîner. L’emplacement est également idéal au cœur d’une rue animante, et juste à proximité de la plage. La chambre n’a pas de clim mais nous avons très bien dormi avec le ventilateur, malgré les fortes chaleurs.

La porte de la salle de bain/wc ne ferme pas.

Les gros points forts de l’établissement sont l’hôte, qui est d’une extrême gentillesse et bienveillance, ainsi que la localisation à 5 min à pied de la plage, des restaurants, animations et les autres commodités d’Uppuveli. Le petit jardin extérieur donne une ambiance très décontractée à l’endroit et permet de s’y poser à l’ombre entouré de plantations.

Les chambres manquent clairement de confort et de propreté. La literie n’est pas confortable (matelas très fin). Nous avons eu un problème d’eau un matin, puis d’électricité l’après midi (pas de chance je suppose). La connexion wifi était très faible. Les chambres ne sont pas équipées de climatisation, mais un ventilateur au plafond est présent.

De eigenaar Rangan. Hii zorgt ervoor dat je je echt thuis voelt. Verder hebben we hier de beste seafood gegeten van heel Sri Lanka. Ook het ontbijt is geweldig!

De kamer was vrij basic en niet mega comfortabel. Gelukkig is er een grote tuin waar je kan relaxen, waardoor je amper in de kamer bent.

Allez-y sans hésiter ! Le rapport qualité / prix est juste parfait. L’emplacement est top, à 5 min à pieds de la plage et à côté de nombreux restaurants et bars. Le jardin est très agréable, l’accueil très chaleureux. Le petit déjeuner est délicieux ! Sûrement le meilleur qu’on ait pris au Sri Lanka. Tout était parfait.

Rien, tout était parfait. Nous ne passions que pour une nuit mais nous aurions aimé rester plus longtemps.

I have no words for how special and beautiful this place is and this is mostly because Rangan is such a warmhearted soul. We felt so welcome and at home from the very beginning and had a very peaceful stay. We loved just being there, spending some time with Rangan, talk about life and laugh together. He went out of his way to make us comfortable, even prepared us some travel-lunch-boxes with the most delicious sandwiches. The rest of the food was amazing as well and all the staff is also really friendly. The rooms are basic but have everything you need and are very clean (as was the rest of the place). There’s a lot of thoughtful details all around the place like all the art and well cared for plants. I went on the snorkeling trip with Rangan and had the best time! He is a wonderful and super respectful guide, you can see he loves nature and loves to teach about it. We went on a less crowded (at times basically just us) snorkeling route around pigeon island and could really spot all the beauty. We were really sad to leave, but Rangan and the White House will always have a place in our hearts ❤️

Rangan and his friends are really welcoming and kind natured. The White House has a chill vibe, with many spaces to slow down and breathe in Trinco. The guys are super helpful and recommended me some local spots for eating and Golden Beach for swimming. The dorm room was clean, breakfast was delicious, and the house is a short walk to the beach. Thank you for making me feel at home!

Bedden zijn een beetje door gelegen maar prima

Min kæreste og jeg havde 4 skønne dage hos Rangan. Både Rangan og de andre ansatte var altid hjælpsomme og meget imødekommende. Stedet har en helt særlig stemning, som står i kontrast til det ellers lidt turistede nærområde. Stedet har en fin have der er oplagt til at hænge ud i når man har brug for at slappe af. tilmed er der tilknyttet en lille restaurant, som laver lækker morgenmad og aftensmad. Rangan arrangerer også snorkelture, fisketure, hvalture og meget mere. Vi snorklede ved Navy island, og var på morgenfisketur. begge ting kan vi anbefale!

Som nordeuropæisk turist kan nogle opleve at sengene er en smule korte, da de nok er ca 180cm lange. ellers var værelset fint, simpelt og hjemligt.

Nous avons passé une semaine très agréable et vécu des moments inoubliables avec rangan dans cette charmante et calme maison entouré du beau jardin ombragé. La maison est très bien située, proche de la plage (propre et très adaptée à la baignade) accessible en 5minutes à pieds, ainsi que de petits commerces, bars/restaurants dans les alentours. Rangan, excellent cuisinier, nous a fait déguster de très bons petits déjeuner et repas de poisson et fruits de mer. Toute la famille a adoré la journée de snorkelling avec lui, qui est un pro en la matière. Nous nous souviendrons avec tendresse de son accueil chaleureux et attentionné, de tous ces échanges intéressants et de son charmant sourire. Pas étonnant que son resto ainsi que son chat portent le nom de ‚Karma‘.

Rangan is an amzingly friendly guy that welcomes you as his brother or sister! His accomodation is clean and comfortable close to the beach and restaurants but ask Rangan himself and he put the best fresh fish on the table.. Thank you Brother 🙏🏼🙏🏼

The stay in this beautifull guest house with a big garden, hammocks between the big trees is a 5+ stay in Trinco. Go for the breakfast and ask Rangan if Rangan will prepare the dinner for you. I really recommendnhis fresh fish dishes. The best I had in Sri Lanka and I tasted a lot over the last months.

Nous avons passé trois jours absolument merveilleux à la White House. Tout était parfait du début à la fin ! Rangan est une personne extraordinairement gentille et accueillante. Il a été plein de bons conseils pendant et après notre séjour et nous avons vraiment apprécié les moments passés à discuter avec lui. On se sent tout de suite comme à la maison. En plus de cela, Rangan et son neveu sont d’excellents chefs cuisiniers ! Les repas étaient délicieux ! Nous recommandons cet havre de paix à 100 % À bientôt Rangan ! 🙏🏼

Rangan is the kind of host you wish you could find in every hostel. From the moment I arrived, he made me feel right at home with his constant smile and helpful attitude. He went above and beyond to take care of me when I fell ill, which I am incredibly grateful for. On top of his amazing hospitality, he is an incredible chef! don't miss out on his food! Rangan, el dueño, es un tipo genial, que cocina delicioso. Estuve alli 3 noches y me hubiera quedado más. Volveré en temporada para hacer el tour de snorkel con él.

L'auberge est agréable et la nourriture y est délicieuse. Rangan est un hôte incroyable et vous mets à l'aise dès votre arrivée. J'ai également fait du snorkeling en passant par lui, qui vous guide et vous accompagne à un prix concurrentiel. Notez qu'il y a un chat, adorable, qui circule dans toute l'auberge (chambres incluses), si vous êtes allergique cela est bon à savoir. Aussi, il n'y a pas de climatisation ni d'eau chaude, mais cela ne m'a pas dérangé.

Il n'y a aucun wifi disponible contrairement à ce qui est indiqué, alors que je comptais dessus pour un appel professionnel... La propreté est rudimentaire et je ne pense pas que la salle de bain soit lavée tous les jours. Enfin, il me semble important de souligner que j'ai surpris un membre du personnel fouiller dans mon portefeuille. Rien n'a été volé, mais mon expérience a quand même été entachée par cet évènement.

The best experience ever! Rangan is without a doubt the best host we have ever met. He is incredibly welcoming, kind, and treats you like part of his family. Staying here is truly a must if you are visiting Sri Lanka – it’s not just a place to stay, it’s an experience you will never forget. On top of that, Rangan is one of the best chefs we’ve ever come across. Honestly, his food is even better than some Michelin-star restaurants – every single meal was a highlight of our trip. The surroundings are beautiful, the vibe is super relaxed, and the place itself is cozy and fun to hang out at. This was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had, and we can’t recommend it enough. De Accomodatie zit in een leuke straat vol met restaurantjes en loopafstand van het strand.

Op basis van alle beoordelingen viel het bij ons tegen. De kamer was vervallen en niet erg schoon. Daarnaast werdt het er enorm warm ondanks de ventilator. Het bed was enorm hard en je voelde de latten liggen. Goed om te weten is dat er alleen koud water is.

Lage war top, man war schnell am Strand und bei vielen Restaurants. Der Besitzer war sehr nett und man kann über ihn auch eine Tour zur Pigeon Island buchen, was wir sehr empfehlen können. Es ist ein fairer Preis und er nimmt sich viel Zeit, dass jede*r eine schöne Erfahrung hat und vlt sogar ein bisschen was über die Fische und Korallen lernt. Morgens gab es ein Gratis Tee/Kaffee und das Frühstück war sehr lecker. Rangan hat einen Abend extra für uns Kottu gemacht, was auch sehr gut geschmeckt hat. Draußen konnte man gut verweilen. Im Dorm gab es ein Schließfach und die Betten waren bequem. Generell war der Dorm und das Bad Recht einfach gehalten, aber vollkommen ausreichend. Außerdem gibt es eine niedliche Babykatze, die einen immer mal besucht ;)

Deas Betttuch war ein bisschen zu kurz, wodurch grosse Personen mit den Füßen auf der Matratze liegen. Wir haben im Dorm geschlafen und uns somit ein Badezimmer mit mehreren Menschen geteilt, was erstmal kein Problem ist, aber durch die offene Dusche und das Bidet ist der Boden halt immer etwas nass.

Of all the 120 hostels I’ve stayed in, I have never felt as welcome as at The White House. Ranga and his nephews are the kindest people, and it truly feels like a second home. I stayed for a week but wish I could have stayed longer. The snorkeling trips that can be booked through Ranga are absolutely stunning, and all week I saw people returning from the tours full of excitement. I stayed in the dorm, and because Ranga treats his guests with so much warmth, it also creates a wonderful atmosphere among roommates—it really feels like a second home. All the food is delicious, and the garden is super cozy as well. I will definitely come back ❤️❤️ I wish I could rate 11

J'ai eu la chance de rencontrer Karma, le petit chat de la maison des plus adorables 🤭 Une chouette auberge de jeunesse abordable, je laisse aussi quelques information pour les chambres individuelles, il n'y a pas de climatisation et la literie n'est pas d'un très grand confort, bon à savoir, ici c'est plutôt l'humain et les rencontres qui primes 🤗😊🫶

De locatie is geweldig, een heerlijke tuin, vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Heerlijk ontbijt!

Ich kann die Unterkunft nur empfehlen. Gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis und Rangan versucht wirklich alles damit seine Gäste zufrieden sind. Außerdem kann ich die Schnorcheltour zur Pigeon Island mit Rangan wirklich nur ans Herz legen. Er ist mit uns so lang schnorcheln gewesen, dass wir fast die letzten waren die von der Insel runter gegangen sind.

Man muss beachten, dass es nur drei Zimmer gibt, die sporadisch eingerichtet wurden. Wir hatten das Einzelzimmer, die Matratze war super hart, ohne AC wird es sehr warm und nachts ist es sehr laut. Für den Preis trotzdem gut für die Lage, jedoch würde ich mich hier nicht lange aufhalten wollen

Guesthouse nel cuore di Trincomalee, ottima la posizione, molto accogliente lo staff, stanze essenziali, potrebbe essere migliorata la pulizia del bagno.

A beautiful little oasis with a wonderful garden, a kitten that thinks he's a lion and an owner who treats you with kindness and makes you feel at home from the minute you get there. One of the more memorable stays of our trip!

El Hostal es un pequeño paraíso donde relajarse. Los Rangan y los demás chicos tienen un ritmo de vida que contagia. Muy recomendable. Y el snorkel con Rangan muy bueno!

Me encantó quedarme en este hostel. Todo estaba muy limpio y ordenado, las habitaciones son cómodas y tienen buen espacio para dejar tus cosas. La ubicación es ideal, cerca de transporte y lugares para comer. ademas tiene un restaurante en el lugar donde preparan un desayunó exquisito. El personal es súper amable y te ayuda en lo que necesites, incluso con tips para moverme por la ciudad. Sin duda lo recomiendo para quienes buscan un lugar seguro, cómodo y con un espíritu viajero.

This is a perfect location next to the beach, with a quiet and beautiful garden to relax in. I stayed in the dorm, which was clean and comfortable. I also went on a snorkelling trip with Rangam, which was absolutely brilliant, and had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant, which were both very tasty. I can't recommend this place highly enough as a place to really relax and enjoy the area.

Simplemente, Rangan es el mejor anfitrión del mundo! best way to start our vacation! Fuimos con él a hacer snorkel (es el mejor) y tuvimos grandes conversas. Proche de la plage, cet établissement était propre. Le personnel est adorable. L’hôtel est également proche des magasins et des restaurants.

The location is very good within easy walking distance of the beach and lots of restaurants. Rangan is very nice and friendly, less so the other two guys but I think their english is not so good. The breakfast was good (especially the Tropical Oats) and they kindly gave me hot water for my own coffee. The restaurant area with outside seating is nice. Towel provided and they let me use the fridge.

My main issue was the dirty bathroom. Just one bathroom for everyone, no separate toilets. I don't think it was cleaned in the 3 days I was there. The bin was full of toilet paper, plasters and rubbish with insects crawling in it. The drain was blocked with hair and sand. The dorm also was never swept or the bin emptied so it was overflowing when I left. The bed linen doesn't fit the bed so there is partly just bare mattress. The door to the dorm doesn't shut properly so in the middle of the night it's swinging open and there are just two lockers to the 4 beds. It's cheap, but even so, the bathroom should be cleaned every day. Sorry to say it because Rangan is such a lovely guy who cares about his guests.

Besitzer und Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich. Man kann Touren bei ihnen buchen. Besitzer hat eine entzückende Babykatze <3 Das Dormzimmer war für den Preis angemessen. Handtücher und Leintuch vorhanden. Badezimmer ist ok. Sauberkeit auch ok. Gemütlicher Garten zum verweilen und Restaurant ist auch dabei. Lage perfekt.

Es gab im dorm keine Option die Wertsachen einzuschließen

Die Mitarbeiter waren sehr freundlich und die Lage super! Man hatte direkt viele Restaurants vor der Tür und der Weg zum Strand war in wenigen Minuten erledigt.

Da ich 1,90m groß bin und das Bett nur 1,80m waren die Nächte nicht so erholsam, dazu kam noch, dass es sehr heiß war.

Ragan è un padrone di casa estremamente gentile e affabile, che saprà mettervi a vostro agio sempre, oltre a questo è un capacissimo istruttore di apnea e sub con esperienza pluriennale che vi potrà introdurre alle meraviglie e fragilità della locale barriera corallina, dunque consiglio vivamente le sue escursioni all'Isola dei Piccioni. Il cibo è veramente ottimo, pesce locale cucinato veramente bene e finalmente niente rice 'n curry! Anche la colazione è una bella sorpresa. Il tutto contornato da un'atmosfera rilassante e aperta. Per gli standard europei l'ospitalità è un po' spartana, in puro stile singalese, come la maggior parte dei posti è immerso fra alberi e piante, dunque qualche formica e qualche rana possono essere compagni del vostro soggiorno, qui è normale, se non vi va bene andate in un enclave occidentale o in qualche luxury resort del cavolo. Questo posto vale ogni euro, anzi ogni rupia, che costa.

I wish I could rate this place 11. Rangan is amazing and we had such a great time. Comfortable room, great value for money, excellent food, close to the beach, and Rangan is just the man to help you arrange snorkeling and diving. More than a place to stay: a home away from home!

Great place to stay near the beach. Rangan and his team are awesome. They create a welcoming homely vibe and are super helpful. The food is really tasty and the garden is great to hang out in. The snorkeling trip was excellent due to Rangan's guiding as he shares his knowledge and passion for the ocean with his guests.

Een heerlijke fibe door look and feel, tuin met hangmatten en natuurlijk Raynan en Will. Heerlijke dagen gehad hier. Zoals een vakantie gevoel moet zijn. De snorkel tour met Raynan was echt geweldig. Hij heeft ons op plekken gebracht waar we de fantastische vissen hebben gespot!

úžasný personál. s úsměvem nás přivítali v 11 večer, na recepci vždyck někdo je (myslím, že bydlí ve vedlejší místnosti). majitel je velice vstřícný, snaží se pomoct a vždy odpovídá na zprávy. příjemná zahrada s možností posezení a občerstvení.

na ubytování je jediný malý stoleček, málo místa k odložení věcí, ale pokoj je hodně malý, takže chápu, že je těžké tam dát více nábytku. špatná úroveň čistoty. pavučiny, ušpiněné povrchy, je třeba být důkladnější v umytí prostor hadrou s čistícím prostředkem, ne jen vymést a opláchnout vodou. a to všude. ma stěnách v koupelně jsou hovna od hmyzu a gekonů. je třeba umýt záchodové prkýnko z obou stran.

The White House is a beautiful and relaxing space, only a short walk away from the beach. Rangan is a wonderful host, he and his staff are friendly and helpful. The courtyard has a lovely bohemian feel where it’s very easy to spend time reading a book in a hammock or trying one of their tasty menu options

Rangan and Roshin make your stay so comfortable. It’s an oasis in paradise, with free tea and coffee. The fish dishes in the restaurant are PHENOMENAL. Rangan is a font of knowledge, snorkeling at pigeon island is a MUST and Rangan will make all arrangements. It’s beautifully situated, so close to the beach and not far at all from Trincomlee. Staying here was a highlight of my holiday.

It was a really pleasant stay, nice atmosphere and really cool staff. We also had dinner and breakfast here and everything was delicious. The scuba diving at pigeon island that they organized was really unique. Strong recommend
