Reviewed Jun 18, 2026Shanta Ghar is far away from the busier gateways to Chitwan national park in the district of Madi. Surrounded by paddy fields, simple wooden buildings, traditional agriculture and the hills covered with jungle on either side. I stayed in the beautiful traditional wooden building with so much character, huge rooms, and very simple amenities. They also have more modern style rooms with attached bathroom. Even though the family live in the building next door I slept so well, at night just blissful peace and quiet so hard to find these days. Hari and Deppa are perfect hosts, such kind, honest and generous people, I loved their company. They also have the most gorgeous well behaved and smart dog and his best friend another sweet dog from another home that hangs out all the time there. I could see just how kind Hari is by how he treated these dogs! The view all around the property is golden and green, the feeling peaceful and authentic. I was lucky to share a safari with two other girls staying at Shanta Ghar and we saw many Rhinos, Elephants, Crocodiles and interesting birds and had a super day, Hari never stopped looking to find another interesting thing to show us-he puts 100% into his safaris. Danuvad Shanta Ghar and hope to see you soon in September :-) Cat
Nothing bad just a couple of suggestions: a fruit option for breakfast would be good and a bicycle to rent would be great

Reviewed Jun 17, 2026it's a gorgeous homestead. we shared breakfast and dinner with the family and it felt truly like old friends chatting. the animals on the property are amazing! it is pretty remote- in that it's not close to anything (except the border) but we had our own bike so that wasn't an issue. It might be nicer to experience in winter as june heat was unbearable. they also offer safaris and seemed very knowledgeable about it.

Reviewed Apr 4, 2026Calm, quiet and far from the bitten track. The family is the nicest people I've met. The owner has an extensive knowledge about not only Chitwan but also the Himalaya mountains. The safari they organize is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, during which you can eat delicious meals in a jungle watching wildlife and cruise in a jeep spotting rhinos and elephants! They truly put so much care in everything the guests experience.
If you want a unique moment away from all the touristy noise, this is a fantastic place! Sincerely recommend!

Stay with welcoming and friendly family well off the beaten track. Our host arranged a safari in Chitwan for the day and we saw rhinos, elephants and many other wild animals and saw parts of Chitwan far away from the main tourist area.
It wasn't very clear how to get there ... but it wasn't that hard. We left the Tourist bus at the first stop in Bharatpur (not the main stop - just ask the conductor for advice) and walked a short distance to the main bus terminal. After asking around a couple of times, we found the local bus to Madi and let the conductor know where we were staying. Then just sat until we were dropped off right outside the Guesthouse.
The alternative option (and the one we wished we had taken) was to take a taxi/tuk-tuk to the Guesthouse - there is plenty of choice. This would be far quicker (the bus took 2+hours and the tuk-tuk would have been just over an hour).
The bed was very hard and there is not a lot to do if you are not going on a safari.

Reviewed Oct 19, 2024If you’re looking for an authentic homestay, in the middle of rural Nepal where you can relax and enjoy Nepalese culture and food, then this is the perfect place. The family is kind and helpful, the food was absolutely delicious and the surroundings are beautiful. The rooms are spacious though not super luxurious (which is to be expected being this far from commercial touristic places to be fair). They also arranged a jungle safari for us! The mother of the family and one of her sons made us fresh Nepali food everyday. One of the other sons cane to get us from bharatpur and helped us arrange a taxi for a good price They also arranged a whole day safari for us in Chitwan National Park, father of the family was the guide on this tour. We saw so many animals! A lot of deer, peacock, a black boar, a lot of birds and 3 Rhino's! We really loved that they we're so welcoming! We would totally reccomend others to stay here if you want to get away from the main crowd and experience the real Nepal countryside life!

He is also the most qualifies and amazing safari guide, and will show you things no other will....
There is nothing that I didnt enjoy about this place, I loved the rustic room. Sometimes the walls were a bit too thin, but there was only joyful family sounds that I heard

Reviewed May 13, 2023If you want to experience the rural life of Nepal and take amazing pictures with the sunset on the rice fields, this is a place to stay. To rest and to discover local life. But it is surely way more expensive than other places especially the safari. If you are willing to pay more and you don’t mind you can book. Otherwise I recommend to go there as a holiday on a farm. The room was very cosy and the bathrooms cute and clean.
Safari was 11 hours long to see a lot of the national park and also areas other tourist would not go. Anyways it was way to expensive with 180 Dollar. Taxi from the airport to the place is 2 hours for 25 Dollar. Bus is an adventure but is like 2 Dollars instead.

Reviewed Jan 2, 2023Shanta Ghar is a place for the people seeking solitude...it's for the people who like to talk to the locals and understand how they live. It's about understanding how people have made out a home in a place so far from the city, yet it feels like home. It's about going back in time and appreciating whatever life has given to us.
Highly recommended to all the solo travelers and the peace seekers. Respect the environment around and do not play loud music, or do not throw trash anywhere.
