Sehr nette Unterkunft, gute Betten, netter Besitzer.
Geluidsoverlast v.d. kerk i.d. ochtend, weinig water komt uit kraan.
I loved my stay there and extended one night. The family is so lovely, the location in Rantepao. But most of all my trips with Daoud. He knows so much and explosies so well. I have a dieper understanding about Torajan culture now. Also he showed me some magie places and took me along on a trip to the handcradt villages. All part of that beautiful culture. I will be back one day
Nothing
Quiet place Comfortable beds Nice bathroom with hot water, sink and western toilet Very kind staff
Everything was good. Unfortunately a french couple with two small and very loud children disturbed the nice and quiet atmosphere already at 7.00 am every day with shouting and crying. It's never the children's fault, but their parents' who don't do their job and so other guests have to deal with their children's lack of good manners. It's not the homestay's fault either, of course
Very simple but also very reasonably priced place in Rantepao in a small side street. The staff arranged for scooters. Shared verandah area for breakfast. For the price a really good place.
No AC, just a regular stand-alone fan, very basic bathroom, just one lamp. Windows only to the verandah area. But this is expected for the price.

Volveremos!
The family were very helpful and friendly. Location was good. The verandah looked onto a lovely lush garden - an oasis in that congested part of town.
We had a great time at this homestay. The rooms were big and clean. The breakfast was decent: banana pancakes or rice with tea/coffee. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance for dinner. The best thing about this homestay by far is Daud. He is a lovely man and a brilliant tour guide. He took us on guided tours for 4 days: days 1 and 2 were cultural including attending a funeral, days 3 and 4 we did hikes through the rice paddies and through villages. He made us lovely packed lunches for the hike days. We learnt so much about the area and Indonesia, Daud is very intelligent and has brilliant English. This was a cultural highlight of my time spent backpacking in SE Asia.
This is not a problem with this homestay, but everywhere in Indonesia is noisy in the mornings.. don't forget your earplugs!
the big bedroom and big bathroom. The daughter is very friendly as well as the owner. I found them very flexible (also gave me the room early morning since I was arriving with the night bus). There is a little table and a chair in the room. I m sorry I only stayed one night (that night wasn't planned), if I stay longer, I will come back.
nothing. I just have to mention that the alley is very dark at night and there are dogs, so if you are alone like me I can be scary.
Nice location and setting, water available,
Very clean and friendly
Sehr freundliches, hilfsbereites Personal.
Great homestay, very well managed. Meisy and her father are always there if you need anything. I highly recommend it.
The breakfast was very good, including homemade fruit juice. The homestay is situated in a very nice garden with terrace, where we spent nice time during the breakfast and talking with the owner. The rooms were clean, the bathrooms are huge. It was more than perfect, thank you :)
It’s near the town centre and there are a few eateries and convenient stores nearby. There is also a fresh market nearby. The owner allowed me to check in early. The room was large.
You have to walk across a patch of unpaved lane to get to the homestay. There are some noisy dogs around the property who are only too happy to bark their heads off when they see you. It can get very noisy (who knew nature could get so noisy?) and there’s the music and singing from the nearby church at 05:30 every morning. Bring ear plugs!
Great location, quiet and the proprietor was very nice. She asked me what I wanted for breakfast and then made it for me.
There was very little water pressure in the shower, but it was hot!
Daoud, Riana and their daughter were very welcoming. The room was very clean and very spacious and had everything you really need. I had a great banana pancake, lovely juice and excellent Indonesian coffee for breakfast. Daoud is a very experienced local guide with deep knowledge of the Toraja culture. He knows every road - and how to conquer them by car :D and he does 't let rain stop him guiding - he simply takes a banana leaf and uses it as an umbrella... I never felt unsafe with him. He also knows a lot about (many endemic) plants and trees and how they're used in daily life. And he's patient when you want to take photo's of things that have nothing to do with the subject :D I can recommend Daoud to anyone who really wants to know and experience Toraja.
Even the cold shower I got over - it's simply the Indonesian way of life of many, and you find it in many homestays. Of course the warm climate helps ;)
Ponoči lajajo psi in zgodaj zjutraj se sliši cerkev, zato so potrebni čepki za ušesa. A glede tega se ne da pomagati.
Total liebe Gastgeber, leckeres Frühstück. Gute zentrale Lage.
Excellent location central to transport locations and restoraunts. Very large clean rooms with balconies opening onto a pocket garden with a lot of common birds. Bathroom was karfer tgan my hotel room in Singapore. Daud gives very good, fairly priced tours dealing with cultural or natural issues. As he runs his own farm his opinions on buffalo prices is very interesting. Banana pancake breakfasts are excellent.
Overall very good
Mr. Daoud was not only a great host but also a great guide. He was so thoughtful and took me to see some great funerals and even a wedding ceremony. I’d come back again any time.
Merci. La chambre était très confortable.
Very kind and helpful owners. Tasty breakfast.
Close to a church, so early-morning wake-up.
Wonderful Stay with Warm and Friendly Hosts 🌿 I had a truly wonderful stay at Riana’s Homestay in Rantepao. The hosts are incredibly kind, warm, and welcoming — they made me feel at home from the very first moment. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and the whole place had a peaceful atmosphere. The location is perfect, just a short walk from the town center, yet quiet enough to relax after exploring the area. The hosts were always ready to help with local tips and information about Toraja culture, which made my stay even more special. I highly recommend Riana’s Homestay to anyone visiting Rantepao — it’s the perfect place to experience true Torajan hospitality!
I had a truly wonderful stay at Riana’s Homestay in Rantepao. The hosts are exceptionally kind, warm, and helpful — from the very first moment they made me feel like part of their family. They were always ready to share advice about local places, Toraja culture, and things to see around the area, which made my visit even more special. The homestay itself is very clean, comfortable, and well maintained. My room was cozy and quiet, perfect for resting after exploring the surroundings. The location is excellent — just a short walk from the city center, local markets, and restaurants, yet peaceful enough to relax. I really appreciated the genuine hospitality and positive atmosphere. It’s one of those places where you feel more like a guest than just a traveler passing by. I would definitely recommend Riana’s Homestay to anyone visiting Rantepao — it’s a perfect base to experience the real Toraja spirit!
Daud and his family are very kind people. I had such a nice stay there. The room is huge and very comfortable. Daud can also guide you at ceremonies for a good price! He will explain everything you need to know in good English. I highly recommend this place.
Very very noisy on the morning, usually I am not affected so much by the noise but here it's on another level haha. But it is part of the place, you have a lot of animals everywhere, especially pigs for ceremonies, plus the mosk... hard to sleep long but i enjoyed my stay anyway!
All was perfect !
Nada
Gastheer was tevens een uitstekende gids
Alles was goed
The family of the homestay were some of the best and kindest we have met in Indonesia. We had a great stay and could rent proper motorbikes! The owner also took us on a tour around Toraja, which was amazing, could not have been better.
The owner, Mr Daud, is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and clean.
Not much really
Nice homestay in good location just next to the main street but without traffic noise. Lovely host family. Rooms are simple but clean. Nice patio with sitting area.
Not fault of the homestay but some early morning church music wakes up around 6am.
The room is clean, comfortable and conviently located. The family is so helpful, caring and firendly. Mr Daud, the owner and an anthropologist, is amazing at sharing his passion and knowledge about his torajan culture during the tours he organises. I had the chance to participate to a funeral ceremony with him and I can not thank him enough for all his explanations, for showing me around off beaten paths, making me feel welcome amongst the locals.
Daud and his daughter are amazing. Without Daud's tips and help my stay in Rantepao wouldn't have been so perfect. The breakfast is very nice, the rooms spacious, clean and with a lot of light, the wifi good, drinking water available all day. Daud didn't pressure me for tours, and offered options and information and was always available. I really felt home at Riana's!
As other reviews mention, the noises early morning (the church talking on the speakers at 5.30am and the roosters, dogs, etc. afterwards), but this is not the owners fault, of course.
All of the part 1. Location - just walk 3 minuet and reach the main road where restaurants and convince shop located 2. Service - the boss not only a tour guide but taje care of customer and treat them as a family member. And the price was far below quoted from other tourist company. Moreover, the boss even taje me to luwat farm which 50km from the town 3. Clean - it was very clean
No
The place
So many noises and sounds during the night. Impossible to sleep
Rianas was great. Daud is a wonderful guide. He knows the area so well and we felt that every place he took us to was so authentic. The funeral we attended was mind blowing. Such a special time. The home stay was great. Very clean, Macy (Daud’s) daughter is so lovely. She made us tea any time we asked. And everything she did was with the biggest smile!!! We had a lovely stay. Thank you Rianas
Room was large and clean. Nice outside sitting area with lovely small garden. Convenient location as base for exploring. Daud was an excellent guide and most helpful in all aspects of my stay. So happy I stayed with this family in their most inviting Homestay.
Loved everything!
I had a very comfortable stay at Riana's for a total of six nights. Pak Daud and his family were wonderful hosts and happy to help with any request. The room was spacious and clean, the bathroom had hot water, and clean towels were provided. The family also prepared a vegetarian breakfast on request. Great location, easy to get to restaurants & cafes. Excellent value for money.
The family is very accommodating and happy to help in every request. You can rent a bike from them to go around the area. The house is simple and beautiful, with a lot of green and passion fruit to pick when ready. Mr Douve is very knowledgeable and he speaks a very good English, and he is always keen to explain the torajan culture and tell what to do around the area. I really enjoyed meeting them and the first day I had a long talk with him about their traditions etc. as solo traveller and without a guide was really valuable. My room was huge, the bed as well. Basic and comfy. All I need
The only down side the shower water was really weak and hard to have a shower. But other guests in next room told me they didn’t have similar problem. You must get to use with the morning early Church’s around and all the checkens singing but I think that is kind everywhere in the area
The location is perfect, it's like a small green village inside a city, which is a quick and easy walk to the main square, good places to eat, and all the good cafes. The rooms are wonderful and have good hot water, very comfortable beds, are impeccably clean, and super spacious. The owners are so lovely and they make great breakfast. Considering how great it's way underpriced and great value.
Sometimes it was a bit awkward walking through the family's living room to fill up my water, but they were always really friendly and kind so I think it was my own anxiety maybe not an actual issue.
Very good location and friendly staff
Very well clean, perfect location and very nice family. You can rent a motorbike from them for a good price. The owner Daud is a very good guide, we attended a tradicional ceremony and we did a 2 days trekking. 100% recommended.
It's not their fault but every time muslims pray you hear them very loud through the speakers. It happens in the whole Rantepao.
We had a great stay at Riana’s Homestay. Room is basic but large, confortable and clean. Breakfast is good (coffee/tea + pancake/egg + juice). More importantly, Daud and his daughter are available and can help you with anything. Daud is also a guide and he took us for a day around Tana Toraja that he knows very well. Full day included ceremony and visits of lesser known caves, rice fields and villages. You can trust him :) He speaks very well English and will have many stories and information to give you, we could feel the passion to share and it was so enjoyable. All of this made our stay in Tana Toraja an amazing experience ! Thanks a lot Daud
Dumb the owner is one of the most honest person you can find in Rantapao. Speaking to him, you feel with conviction that he is all about earning a fair and honest living, and despises others that try to overcharge tourists in the process ruining the image and reputation of his town. His family members who help run the Homestay are all very friendly and hospitable, making you feel right at home. I am so pleased to have found this place.
The noise from the church at 5am and mosque later on, followed by animals is guaranteed to wake you up in the morning. But if you did what I did - adjust my time so I went to bed early and wake up with the noise to do by bedtime journal writing, video watching etc in the morning instead - then you'll be fine and happy.
We spent 3 perfect days at Riana homestay with our two daughters. The rooms are clean and confortable and the homestay is in a quiet area of Rantepao. The breakfast was delicious ! We have also spent 2 magic days visiting the Toraja country via the homestay guide service: Forget Ketekesu, you will visit much better places to see tongonan villages, forget he main roads, you will pass throught scenic little road full of bambou and palms forest ! The ceremony we participed joining the family meal was also great (it was much better than being parked with the other tourists into the tourist area)! Thank you Riana homestay
-Very clean and spacious room. -super friendly and helpful owner. -Good Breakfast and coffee served. -Water dispenser provided. -Wi-Fi is moderate. In my room , I able to conduct meetings but it was sometime unstable but surely enough for daily use.
-not very good soundproofing -light sleeper may get disturbed from sleep due to the morning prayer from the mosque -very hard water quality from the shower room For me , it doesn’t matter so I would still recommended this homestay in overall!
Exceptionally helpful and kind owner (and his family). Mr. Daud is also an excellent guide with vast knowledge about the local culture and nature.
The environment is nice. And host is knowledgable guide, made my visit much easier.
breakfast was fine. Location only ok, very noisy at 5 am. The bathroom needs maintenance. it is old and stained.
The bathroom. The noise of a church at 5 am. The house doesn't offer water to drink.
