Bright Sun Safari

Sehr gut ausgestattetes Zimmer. Umringt von vielen tollen Pflanzen. Absolut tolles und reichhaltiges Frühstück, mit allerhand typisch Sri lankischen Speisen, bei denen wir uns regelrecht durchprobieren konnten. Upul und seine Schwester sind tolle Gastgeber und sehr bemüht. Wir haben bei der Abreise versehentlich den Zimmerschlüssel mitgenommen den wir netterweise beim Taxifahrer lassen durften, der auch von Upul für uns organisiert wurde. Unter anderem hat Upul uns beim nachschicken eines vergessenen Gegenstandes sehr sehr geholfen.. sind dafür unendlich dankbar. Über Upul haben wir auch eine wirklich tolle Safari gebucht bei der ausschließlich die Kommunikation und Absprache etwas besser hätte laufen können. Trotzdem war es ein tolles Erlebnis.

Du hattest zwar einen Einkaufsladen in der Nähe, dennoch war die Lage schwierig wenn du nur zu Fuß unterwegs bist. Ein Tuktuk zu bekommen war hier nicht ganz einfach. Pickme hat uns da auch nichts gebracht. Wir sind gerne auch zu Fuß gelaufen und haben glücklicherweise eine Regenpause erwischt.:)

Ехали на байке с Маскелии (Пик Адама) в Хабарадуву (дорога очень длинная и тяжелая), по пути нужна была ночевка. Забронировали номер в этом объекте размещения через букинг. А они нам отменили бронирование... Мы узнали об отмене уже подъезжая к месту ночевки. Мы остались на ночь на улице. После всего этого, мы в Удавалаве искали жилье больше часа, потому что еще два объекта размещения принимали наше бронирование, мы приезжали, а по факту оказывалось, что у них нет мест, все занято. Так что будьте осторожны, если едете в Удавалаве, тут собственники не умеют пользоваться букингом и своевременно отмечать доступность номеров.

We had a wonderful stay at Bright Sun Safari. Upul and his sister really looks after us and organise a private safari for us at a very reasonable price. One of our favorite place in Sri Lanka. Our only regret was not to stay longer!

The host, Upul, and his family were very welcoming! The room was clean, comfortable bed, and great value for money. Close to the shops, but tucked away, located within a beautiful garden. The safari organised through them was also great, saw many baby elephants!

Upul y su hermana fueron muy atentos, nos explicaron todo sobre la habitación, también nos facilitaron el safari a muy buen precio. El desayuno inmejorable, mucha cantidad y variedad. Lo que sobraba te lo daban en un tupper para comer. La habitación súper limpia y con detalles como el champú y acondicionador. Extendimos una noche más porque nos sentimos muy a gusto y la zona era muy tranquila.

Absolutamente todo pero lo principial, quienes lo administran, Upul y su hermana son personas realmente maravillosas. No quieren q te falte nada! En cuanto a la habitación, es preciosa, espaciosa, rodeada de verde. No podríamos haber estado más cómodos. Además nos organizaron el Safari y fue un día increíble para nosotros, el guía estuvo en todos los detalles y vimos más de lo que pensábamos.

From the moment we arrived at Bright Sun we were greeted warmly by Lakmali and Upul, who are always smiling. The room is comfortable, but the real treat is being surrounded by an oasis of calm and wildlife (just sit outside on the terrace and you'll have your own mini-safari around you!). The place is conveniently located near shops and bars but once you arrive you won't really want to leave. Upul's wife also made us a delicious Sri Lankan meal on our last evening. All in all it was exceptional value for money. The safari with Chaminda exceeded our expectations. He was so knowledgeable, making sure we got the best view of not only plenty of elephants (including babies) but spotting so many amazing exotic birds and other animals, including crocodiles and the rare giant squirrel! A leaf would barely move, and Chaminda was already identifying the animal and passing us the binoculars. Other jeeps were zooming past which made us feel as though they weren't as closely tuned-in to the surroundings as Chaminda. He made sure we got away from the crowds and had a truly bespoke experience we'll never forget.

Lovely room in the backyard of a very beautiful garden. Upul and his family were absolutely adorable hosts, very welcoming and kind, they went over and above to help us with anything we needed. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious! I highly recommend!

Upul and Lakmali went above and beyond expectations which made our stay really exceptional. They're fantastic people who really understand how to provide outstanding service while still respecting privacy. I wholeheartedly recommend staying here- book your safari with them too they arranged us the best experience (better than others) at a great rate.

There was nothing to dislike.

Een heerlijk rustig plekje dichtbij alles wat je zoekt in UdawLawe. De meest vriendelijke hosts maken ons verblijf perfect. Vlakbij nationaal park waarvoor zij ook een tour en een ervaren guide beschikbaar hebben. Het huisje is van alle gemakken voorzien, airco werkt perfect, heerlijk bed, prima warme douche. Een prachtig verblijf midden in het groen maar niet ver van de doorgaande weg.

Where to begin… we had an exceptional stay at the bright safari! Our host Upul is a very kind man and he welcomed myself and boyfriend into his family and we will forever be grateful for the special memories created there. His wife Cooked us delicious traditional Sri Lanka food each night. Thank you so much ☺️ The bed was extremely comfortable the room was spacious and very clean. It was nice to have a hangout spot on the terrace. There are lots of beautiful plants surrounding the property which give it a jungle feel. We saw many tropical birds around. I would 100% recommend booking the safari through Upul he partners with a guide who has many years experience. The safari guide was knowledgeable of the animals and different species we saw on the safari. He was very respectful of the wildlife and drove slowly through the park unlike some other jeeps… We was so greatful for him taking us to quieter locations when it was only us as it can get crowded at the park sometimes. If you are going to Udawalawe safari you must book with him !!

The best staff and stay we could have hoped for! Upul and his sister were wonderful. They arranged the safari in Udawalawe park with the best guy! Super fun and felt so safe. They fixed delicious dinner and breakfast aswell. Cleaning was great. 10/10 ⭐️ /best regards Ingrid and Elsa from Sweden.

The room was clean, no mold in sight, hot water, a quiet air conditioner with a sleep mode, a mosquito net (which we didn’t even need inside), pleasant lighting, power outlets next to the bed, a hairdryer, toiletries, tea, and a comfortable bed with two pillows each to choose from. There was also a lovely terrace in the idyllic garden, perfect for relaxing. We arrived in the afternoon and were delighted that the family spontaneously had time to prepare a fresh local dinner for us. It was the best Rice & Curry on the whole island! Like most visitors in Udawalawe, we wanted to go on a safari. It was very convenient that Upul could organized one for us at a completely fair price. Many accommodations offer this service, but often overcharge or pressure guests into booking with them and kick them out otherwise. Here, we were free to decide, but we are convinced that Upul friend Chamdi is the best guide in the park! He was friendly and showed us so many animals we would never have seen otherwise—ones that all the other jeeps just sped past! Even at full speed, he spotted tiny chameleons in the bushes, and provided binoculars, which were very useful. We saw eagles, jackals, crocodiles, many colorful birds, baby elephants, and much more. With his years of experience, he told us a lot about the park and the animals and even had books with him in case we wanted to learn more. He could even name most animals in German! Even on the way back from the park, he would stop on the road whenever he spotted something interesting. We sincerely recommend booking this guide—just make sure to reserve in advance, as he is often fully booked. After the safari, a fantastic breakfast with all kinds of local delicacies was already waiting for us. Upul also helped us with our onward journey, so we had a truly relaxed travel day. Thank you again, we will be back!

You organized us the best driver for our Safari Tour in Udawalawe national Park. We very appreciate the drivers respect for the wild animals. This property is perfect. The staff are all so lovely, and the room was so comfortable. The bed and pillows were great. Their dinner was delicious. Really recommend staying here.

I thought the free breakfast was amazing, the room was really comfy and a great price, and the family running it are very welcoming and friendly. Good location for safari and going around the town.

Amazing place close to the city. The room has everything we need including a hot shower. We got to see mongoose in the garden. Also other fascinating animals like birds and squirrels. The dinner was absolutely tasty we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The owners organized us a safari tour. It was a beautiful experience we saw many elephants we really enjoyed it. Our stay at the Bright Sun Hotel was fantastic. Recommended to all.

Super friendly hosts, cozy room with a super comfortable bed. The safari tour they arranged for us was a great experience we enjoyed it. We also visited the elephant transit home after the safari tour, which was also a nice experience for us. Dinner was extremely delicious and had a delicious breakfast the next day. It's like they have created a tiny little jungle. It was a calm place to relax even though it was close to the city area. Everything was great, recommend it to all!

First of all Upul and his sister Lakmali are the best hosts we met so far during our vacation. The room was also good with a super comfy bed, AC and hot water. They also made us rice and curry for dinner which was delicious. Upul also arranged a half-day safari tour and we had a great experience at the national park. The tour guide is also a knowledgeable and experienced guy. We saw many elephants, birds, buffaloes, deer etc. Then the next day we had a nice and delicious breakfast. We were full until evening. Recommend this amazing place with amazing and genuine people. Thank you Upul and Lakmali for everything. We will be back next time.

Upul is a very nice and helpful host. He messaged us already prior to our stay and also arranged the safari for us with an experienced guide. We loved our stay at Sunbirds Home and felt very comfortable. The value for money is excellent! The room was spacious and the beds comfortable. The A/C worked perfectly and we appreciated having a mosquito net. The bathroom and room were both very clean. The safari Upul arranged for us was very great too! We started very early in the morning and got a breakfast basket with plenty of food, snacks and drinks with us. The breakfast we got the next day was very good too! Thank you for a great stay, Upul! We definitely come back when being in Udawalawe again 😊

Everything was perfect

Beautiful and clean property. Felt like home. The family welcomed me into their home and treated me so kindly. Truly one of the nicest places I stayed in Sri Lanka, wish I booked more nights.

By far Best hostel I have been to in Sri Lanka so far!!! You shouldnt think twice in staying here. 10 stars are not enoough. The rooms were amazing. Really confortable beds with many pillows, the AC worked perfectly and was silent so we had an amazing sleep. The bathrooms were perfect, and had a really good shower with nice pressure and HOT WATER for looong time! (That is not very common in Sri Lanka) The cabins are in a very good location, near the national park and as soon as we arrived we felt like we were in the jungle already. They are surrounded by nature so we could hear the birds chirping, it was magical But the best part of all was the owner Upul. He was so sweet and took great care of us since we booked. He contacted me through whatsapp right away, and helped us book a tuktuk from weligama, arranged an amazing safari for us with an experienced guide (we saw looots of elephants, wildlife, birds....) and kindly helped us with everything even until we arrived to our next destination. When we arrived Upul ereceived us with a drink, and he even prepared a basket with snacks for our safari. When we arrived back from the safari he had breakfast ready for us. It was delicious, abundant and varied ¡we couldnt finish it all! I think this hostel is worth 3 times the price

Everything was perfect. I culdnt think of a single thing to improve.

The hosts are the most caring people we have met in Sri lanka. you can clearly tell hosting is what they love to do. We spent a week and they treated us like royalty which we are certainly not expecting. The rooms are tucked back on the property making it very serene and peaceful. We loved the table and chairs which allowed us to work for the week. The wifi is very fast for Sri Lanka and we never ran into capping issues. The breakfast was SO MUCH FOOD we couldn't eat it all. He even gave us snacks and water to bring on safari with us which made all our other safari people jealous. Do not hesitate to book here!

We are extremely sensitive to mold and were not able to use the AC provided but its okay, we're used to the Asia heat.

We loved our stay at Sunbird's, would 200% recommend it! The family is very welcoming and kindhearted. They've arranged a superb safari at Udawalawe with Subhash. The place itself is peaceful, green, super clean and spacious. The breakfast makes you fill up till dinner;). There are only two cottages so be quick to book!

Wonderful stay. We stayed one night in sunbird's home. The whole place is very green and relaxing. The room is very comfortable. Hot water with power shower, fast WiFi, fantastic AC.The hosts are wonderful Friendly and will do anything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We really enjoyed our stay there

We had great hosts (Upul and Ranshika) here, and with their gift of gab, it didn't take long to check in and grab the wonderful adventures on the safari tour, and the food was delightful, especially the koththu dish, which is a must try. I appreciate Sunbird adding the accessories that were required, especially the ceiling-mounted bed round mosquito net. They have provided everything that means most to you, and the minimalist feel will make you feel relaxed and ready to wind down. The room was spotless and cozy. I'm touched by their generosity and feel overwhelmed by their hospitality. Thanks for extending a welcome and offering a home away from home. Keep calm and get there safe and sound.

I didn't like to spend just one day here because the stay is picturesque and my schedule was tight to relax over here, and yes, you can't do everything in one day; please plan a 4-day trip at least.

Clean and cozy rooms. The owners are very welcoming and super friendly. Speak good English. They helped us in every possible way to make our stay a great one. Breakfast was lovely. We also had beautiful and super delicious Sri Lankan rice and curries for dinner. They also organized us a safari tour. Safari driver also speaks good English and has a great knowledge about the national park. We get to experience a personalised fabulous safari tour. Everything about the guest house is wonderful.

Best place to stay in Udawalawe. New private bungalows with modern amenities including great WiFi, Comfy beds, great AC, and unbelievable hospitality. I wouldn't stay anywhere else when I'm in Udawalawe. Highly recommended 🙂🙂

Breakfast was so reasonable for price, so authentic and super clean. Particularly, food was so healthy as there was no junk.
