King Fern Cottage

We had such a comfy bed. The room is a little damp but that’s to be expected in the area. The staff are incredibly friendly. The location is easy enough to get to. The shared space is really nice.

The music finished at an acceptable time, but in high season it might be a bit more of a party vibe because of the live band. But all the staff were really respectful.

Sehr nettes und zuvorkommendes Personal! In dem Cottage sieht man deutlich dass es ein Herzensprojekt ist und es wird auch sehr gepflegt!

A due passi dal centro città, questa Guesthouse è deliziosa come il proprietario che è stato gentilissimo, ci ha addirittura fatto scegliere tra tutte le camere disponibili, letto molto molto comodo ed anche i cuscini! Abbiamo cenato lì con un ottimo kottu rotti e dopo cena giocato a biliardo. L’atmosfera è rilassata, c’era anche gente del posto, amici del proprietario. Ci è piaciuto molto intrattenerci nella sala comune, c’era anche il camino acceso perché, nonostante sia agosto, a Nuwara Eliya è freddino ed umido.

The host is a really nice guy, just as the rest of the staff. Nice clean rooms with warm blankets, wich you need in nuwara eliya! The restaurant is also good food and prices! Would really recomend staying here, you can walk few minuts to the center.

WOW we returned after 15 years and it didn’t disappoint. It’s even bigger and better than before. The design and atmosphere of this place is amazing. Nishanta has a real creative eye. The dining area and bar are all glass fronted with beautiful views of the golf course, natural wooden hand made log tables, atmospheric lighting and a bubbling brook passing through the garden. Their hospitality was outstanding and everyone went out of their way to help us organise everything we needed for a very special two days - great food and location. Nishanta is a reggae musician and serenaded us with his songs. We saw the new bunk guest room which looks perfect for individual travellers. If we ever come back to Sri Lankan we will definitely return to King Fern Cottage.

Owner super friendly and very helpful. Drove me to town to go to the bank and lent me some cash to pay taxi. Fabulous fluffy blankets ... Best in Sri Lanka; fun to play pool and setting next to golf course very green and picturesque

Nice people, good facilities, great view from the dining room

Accoglienza perfetta, gestore gentilissimo e simpatico. Cucina ottima e frutta fresca molto saporita. Posizione vicina al centro e a un piccolo mercato.

Le camere sono veramente datate, ammuffite e fredde. L'acqua della doccia difficile da gestire. Zero comfort. Lo posso consigliare solo a chi ha un budget super ridotto e per una notte. I proprietari in ogni caso hanno fatto il possibile, però consiglio una rinnovata generale.

Die Unterkunft ist extrem gemütlich eingerichtet. Es wirkt wie ein Chalet in der Bergen, in dem man gemütlich Tee und Kottu vor dem Feuer essen und trinken kann. Ausserdem ist das Personal extrem freundlich. Der Besitzer hat uns nach unserem Check-out sogar angerufen und gefragt, ob wir sicher am nächsten Ort angekommen sind. Zu 100% weiterzuempfehlen

Das Zimmer ist sehr gemütlich und groß. Das Frühstück war auch sehr lecker, wir hatten auch zweimal Abendessen und es war beide Mal sehr gut! Die Mitarbeiter sind alle total freundlich, wir haben sogar noch einen Kontakt für den Yala Nationalpark bekommen. Für 1300Rp wurden wir vom Bahnhof abgeholt.

Wir hatten anfangs Probleme uns mit dem WLAN zu verbinden, am nächsten Tag ging es dann aber einwandfrei

Very nice people at this place! It’s a great example of the Sri Lankan hospitality! Big common areas with restaurant and fire place! There is a stage with drums next to it. There was no band playing when I was there but the owner played guitar for us and sang some reggae songs! Good vibes! Imagine it would be fun if there were more people. The breakfast included was amazing! The best ever! And people working at the restaurant are amazing! Also very delicious curry for dinner! I had the tuktuk tour with Daraha recommended by the owner, and he is very good! We went everywhere and he was very attentive! He also picked me up and dropped me off at the train station. Good English as well!

My single room was at the top floor with narrow and steep stairs, but it didn’t bother me. Also the staff helped me with my bags. The room is a bit old and quite small. Could use some renovations. Probably not the best for tall people. Also more tables could be useful so i don’t have to put everything on the floor. Nuwara Eliya can really get cold at night, but hot shower helps.

We were travelling as a family with a 3 year old child. We were unlucky with the weather as it rained a lot in Nuwara Eliya during our stay. therefore we were a bit stuck in the room/cottage. while the room is fine, it is not super comfortable to chill a whole afternoon. the restaurant is big but dark so we couldn't really spend our time there to read or play with our child. We decided to leave after one night. the staff and owner were very friendly and also quite flexible with us. it's surely a nice place for backpackers but maybe not the most suitable for a family.

L’emplacement est sympa, juste au dessus du golf mais il n’y a pas de vue. Les parties communes sont grandes.

L’endroit n’est pas bien entretenu. Les chambres ne sont pas confortable. La musique est trop forte le soir. Et surtout le prix est bien trop excessif pour les prestations.

La gentillesse du personnel, l’emplacement (15min du centre à pied), le côté atypique , le repas, le rapport qualité - prix.

J’aurais aimé mettre une meilleure note, mais je n’ai pas fermé l’œil de la nuit… La musique était à fond jusqu’à minuit, avec des basses bien sonores (même pas de la musique live…), ce qui a complètement bousillé mon endormissement et pourri ma nuit ! Dommage… Et le petit déjeuner n’est pas servi tôt (7h), j’ai du prendre un petit déjeuner à emporter (sandwichs salés et deux bananes).

The King Fern Cottage is a great place to stay - the location is easy walking distance from the centre of town, is positioned over looking the golf course - super quiet and has a wonderful ambience with it's spacious dining room and lush green outlook. The rooms are spacious, the rooms do need refreshing. Special shout out Lal for his exceptional communication - prior to our arrival and during our stay. Lal went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable stay.

I had the pleasure to stay at King Fern for two weeks and I don't think my vocabulary includes enough superlatives to adequately convey just how highly I recommend this place. All of the people are the best - and it's very clear from their smiles and cheerful attitudes that they love being here, interacting with the guests and making King Fern a happy and memorable experience. The facility is the perfect blend of a traditional cabin in the jungle mixed with modern convenience and comforts so you feel like you're out in nature, but also the showers are hot, the wifi is strong, beds are comfortable, and the place is all very clean. There are little nooks throughout the courtyard and lounge for relaxing, and just enjoying the peaceful nature - but there's also a welcoming dining room with a nice fireplace and live music where you can socialize with locals as well as foreign travelers. Oh ... and the location is perfect - easy to walk downtown to Victoria Park, or get a tuk tuk to visit all the beautiful tea factories. Food here is delicious and the breakfasts are a great start to perfect days in spectacular Nuwara Eliya. 😋 There's a choice between local breakfast or western - both are delicious and filling and served with fresh fruit and coffee or tea (have the tea!!). As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe and relaxed - there are super nice guys working at the accommodation who are friendly but not at all creepy or weird so it was lovely to not have to always be on guard for potential threats. Really ... everyone at King Fern is truly lovely. If you want to party with locals, come here. If you want to be an unsociable hermit and just chill in gorgeous nature, come here. Whatever you want ... just come here and you'll be happy!

Vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Er zit een gezellig restaurant bij met lekker eten voor een aangenaam prijsje. De kamer is ruim, met een extra lang bed en een warme douche. Lieve hond.

Het matras was wat dun en rook wat muf.

Es war rundum wundervoll. Ein ganz besonderer Aufenthalt. Die Lage ist super. Insbesondere aber ist die Herzlichkeit und Hilfsbereitschaft zu betonen. Die ganze Belegschaft hat sich in jeder Hinsicht mit immens viel Freundlichkeit und liebenswürdigkeit um das Wohlergehen ihrer Gäste gekümmert und steht einem in jeder Hinsicht mit Rat und Tat zur Seite. Ein Ansprechpartner ist gefühlt rund um die Uhr verfügbar. Vor Ort aber auch schon im Vorfeld. Ein tolles Team! Auch das Essen war extrem gut. Nicht nur das Frühstück sondern auch das sonstige Essen im Restaurant, weswegen ich dort an beiden Abenden meines Aufenthaltes Essen ging. Zu guter letzt ist noch das super Preis- leistungs- Verhältnis zu erwähnen.

Ich habe drei Nächte in King Fern Cottage übernachtet und hatte eine super Zeit. Das Personal ist super herzlich und ich habe mich dadurch sehr wohl gefühlt. Es gab jeden Abend Live Musik. Mein Zimmer war gemütlich und sauber. Ich hatte Ei. Einzelzimmer mit Hängematte und fand es sehr passend für mich. Die Unterkunft liegt ca 10 Minuten Fußweg zum Stadtzentrum, die Lage war super, es war grün drum herum und ruhig. Kann nur jedem empfehlen hier seinen Aufenthalt in Nuwara Eliya zu verbringen!

Fantastic expérience : great location , cozy atmosphere, great restaurant serving excellent Food for a very readonnable price Room may look a bit outdated but offer a super confortable bed with duvet and extra blanket, hot shower with top pressureand excellent wifi connection .. but over all what makes this place very unique is the spirit of his owner (who play some of the best reggae and Sri Lanka folk music in the evening by the restaurant fire place) as well as the kindness and dédication of the all team Beautiful people.. A place to remember and I highly recommand it

Incredibly friendly and heartwarming staff. I felt completely at ease at all times. Both breakfast and dinner were very tasty and plentiful. In the evening you could enjoy live music by the fireplace. The complex is designed with great attention to detail. Great value for money and absolutely recommendable.

Le calme du lieu est très agréable. La vue de la salle de restaurant et surtout la cuisine sont excellentes. Nous avons eu la chance d’avoir un super concert de musique un soir. Mais c’est surtout la gentillesse de nos hôtes que nous garderons en mémoire. Ma femme s’est fait une fracture en randonnant à Horton Plains. Toute l’équipe du King fern est venue la voir à l’hôpital, lui a amené coussin, couverture et draps. Des gens formidables, le cœur sur la main! Exceptionnel

Vriendelijk personeel. Lal stond ons al met een grapje op te wachten, hielp ons waar nodig en je kunt er leuke gesprekken mee voeren. De eigenaar brengt ook goede positieve vibes. Ontzettende aanrader als je zin hebt in een relaxte avond met live muziek. We hebben lekker gegeven in het naastgelegen restaurantje terwijl we genoten van chille meezingers en reggae. Het Sri Lankaanse ontbijt was super op smaak en ik vond de ruime kamer met warme douche erg fijn! Er ligt een dikke warme deken op het ruime bed voor de koude nachten. We kwamen er bij toeval, maar zou een volgende keer direct weer boeken. Ps: ik heb geen foto’s gemaakt van de kamer, maar het restaurant heeft een goede indruk.

Adorable A frame cottage with your own hammock. Hot shower, warmest coziest blankets I had in all of Sri Lanka- definitely want it for this region. The owner and Lal were so kind, helpful, and really went above and beyond to make my time there perfect. Arranged train pickup/dropoff and a waterfall/tea tour for me. Delicious and large breakfast included- your choice of sri lankan or english breakfast. Outside of the bustle of town center, but only a short walk/tuk away.

Only one other couple staying there while I was there, so not especially social.

De locatie, de kamer, het ontbijt en diner waren fantastisch! Hele fijne sfeer! Het bed slaap heel comfortabel. Mooie wandeling naar Eagle’s View Point Shanthipura gemaakt. Als het in de avond koud gaat de open haard gezellig aan. En soms is er livemuziek in het restaurant.

Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit mit Information. Sehr reichliches Sri Lanka Frühstück! Warme Bettdecke für die kühlen Nächte. Die Dusche ist warm und überschwemmt nicht das ganze Bad.

I must say, this is one of the friendliest and nicest cottages in Nuwara Eliya. The staff was very friendly. The vibes and cottage's unique structures and music are very good. the food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. they have their own music band i think it is reggae . there is no any loud noices or anything If one wants to come to Nuwara Eliya to relax, this is the place you must choose. They contacted us until we got home. Highly recommended

Wir verbrachten drei Nächte im King Fern Cottage. Schon am Bahnhof wurden wir von Lal, dem Hotel Manager, und einem Kollegen sehr freundlich empfangen. Lal sowie das übrige Hotelpersonal waren überaus freundlich und wir hatten ständig etwas zu lachen. Das Restaurant versorgte und mit gutem lokalen Essen und auch das Frühstück war lecker (wir bekamen sogar zweimal ein typisch Sri lankanisches Frühstück). Jeden Abend gab es von Nishan und einem seiner sehr talentierten Bandmitgliedern eine tolle musikalische Untermalung am Kamin.

Die Zimmer sind etwas in die Jahre gekommen, waren aber sauber und die Betten gemütlich und warm. Sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis.

Staff were lovely, simple but tasty breakfast, great room with a balcony, hammock, hot shower and strong WiFi. Short walk to town in a nice, quiet area.

The room could do with an update but has everything you need.WiFi was a bit temperamental from the bed but was fast and strong from balcony/restaurant.

Loved this place. The venue is unique, rainforest style. The owner is an incredible musician (think Sri Lankan Bob Marley!) and has set up an event space out the back where his band puts on a reggae gig each night (lights, smoke machine, pumping speakers etc.). It’s a vibe! Food was incredible. Had the Chicken Kottu for dinner and curry and rice for lunch. We used their Tuk Tuk driver to get to and from the train, as well as to take us to Horton’s Plains for the Worlds End walk. Left early and stopped in the perfect spot to watch the sunrise on the way. The staff here were so helpful and eager to please. Highly recommend, especially if you are after something a little unique to add a story to your holiday!

Beautiful peaceful location with lots of different areas to relax or socialize.

Everything was brilliant

Breakfast was very good, as was the location and the bed (both the mattress and pillow were very comfortable).

There was "music" (aka noise) until about 1am and a dog - possibly a puppy tied up and left outside - howling until around 4am, making it impossible to sleep. A fan would have been useful to block the other noises out.

De hoteleigenaar heeft zijn best gedaan om het naar ons zin te maken. Rond deze periode was het echter heel koud en kill in de kamer. Je rook de schimmel en vochtigheid in de kamers. Dat zorgde voor irritatie en allergie symptomen.

This cottage is such a particular place! Wooden ceilings, fireplace, plants everywhere, a billiards room and an incredible music room downstairs. The owner will make you feel at home and food is very very good. Don’t miss it!

Un endroit avec un énorme potentiel, des beaux espaces communs. Au calme de la ville, tout en pouvant y accéder facilement à pied.

Un très mauvais départ qui nous a gâché notre séjour, avec le prix du taxi qui devait être pris en charge et que nous avons finalement payé. A l' arrivée, présentation du règlement de la chambre avec une taxe de 29 dollars, non mentionnée sur Booking ( il a fallu envoyer un mail à Booking, pour ne pas la payer) et une chambre accessible par ...une trappe !!!! pour un séjour de 4 nuits .....c'est dommage.

Showed acceptable rooms online but offered shockingly unacceptable rooms that were dirty, old and did not look anything like the photos show online. We declined to stay.

What a great vibe this c()()l place is. Amazing. With a good music (sometimes live) and great fireplace and lounge. The owner is the coolest person ever. Enjoyfool.

Locatie top, binnen 5 min ben je aan het begin van het centrum. Groot bed, fijne dekens. Vriendelijk personeel. Toffe pooltafel. Lekker avond eten.

De chille muziek stond echter net te hard. Ging wel op tijd uit savonds. Ontbijt alleen roti, bij navragen konden we wel als enige andere optie toast met ei krijgen. Alles kan een kleine upgrade gebruiken zoals overal in Sri Lanka.

This is an old building but it is not the real cottage that is shown in the picture. there is no parking in this area and you need to park on the street.

We really enjoyed staying in Fern Cottage. We were looked after well. Dinner was fantastic- best biriani we had in Sri Lanka and the owner also let us play a bit of music. Cool.

The host was very friendly and accommodating. The surrounding area is a golf course, so very quiet and green.

Unfortunately at the time I was there, I was the only guest.
