Wasantha and Chithra are a lovely couple who make you feel at home! Wasantha helped us with our itinerary on arrival and arranged a lovely daytrip to Ella with a very skilled driver. Chithra's cooking is amazing and I would reccomend eating breakfast and dinner here every day :) They even made us a sandwich and fruit breakfast to take with us when we left at 5 in the morning for a hike!
Nothing! Our stay was amazing
Some of the kindest hosts we met during our trip! Nuwara Eliya was quite cold when we visited, but the house had everything we needed to feel warm and comfortable. They even served dinner directly in our room, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for better service. They also recommended an amazing driver who took us on a beautiful tour and, the following morning, helped us get onto the famous train to Ella. Highly recommended!

We voelden ons helemaal thuis!
Tout
Rien, tout était parfait
I think toilet should clean more and toilet is little bit slippery.
Amazing view from the deck/room, away from a busy center but still walkable, kind owner, delicious SriLankan meal, unique hiking experience

Mohsen and fato from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 I would like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for your incredible hospitality during the five days I stayed with you. It was truly an unforgettable experience. I loved your warmth, kindness, and the beautiful spirit you shared with me—it made me feel completely at home. I will never forget the delicious food prepared by the mother; every meal was amazing and clearly made with love. I would also like to thank the father for the wonderful time we spent with him. He took us to the mountains and on a safari trip, and shared many new and interesting things with us. We truly enjoyed his company, and it made the experience even more special. The entire family was incredibly kind and welcoming. The room was very clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully prepared, with attention to even the smallest details to ensure guests’ comfort. Honestly, these were the best days of my entire trip, and you have left such a special memory in my heart. Thank you so much for everything and for making my stay so wonderful. I truly hope to see you again 🥹💙
Sehr freundliche Leute dort.
Alles sehr fair.
Passte alles
Our host is a warm-hearted person, really friendly and helpful. The room is cozy and has a stunning view. Its definitely worth a visit.
Hosts are so kind and really help look after you. The view is amazing from the hut. Top of the highest part of town therefore if you’re considering walking back from centre it is a long and hard walk. Biggest bed I’ve ever seen!
It is incredibly cold so bring lots of layers and the accommodation is very simple. Only one room adjoined to the owners room where they live. Avoid walking back at night as it’s quite hard work and difficult to see!
The thing we appreciated most was their hospitality and kindness. The view from the property was also beautiful. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, even preparing breakfast before 5 am as we headed to Horton Plains. They ensured everything was excellent and cozy. I had forgotten to pack warm clothes, and they kindly provided us with some during our stay and for the visit to Horton Plains. Overall, this place is highly recommended for anyone who wishes to experience a local homestay filled with kindness and care.
Nothing in particular
I loved the energy of the host and his wife. Beautiful view and amazing food. Very affordable pricing and if i find myself in Nuwara Eliya we will definitely come back
Everything was perfect for what we paid except the water pressure but its being worked on 👌
Lovely host family; so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and always available to help. The views from the room are beautiful and the location is good (just a short walk down the hill into town). The bed was really comfortable and warm even on a cold night!
Amazing people, they will go out of their way to make you feel at home and they help you with travel arrangements. Breakfast is very good too.
This is a room in the hosts house and you access it through their kitchen, so there is little privacy. The bathroom has a ventilator open to the kitchen so all the smells and noise come into the room. The room is very damp as well.
House owners was helpful and joyful. There were 2 cats in the house and it warmed our hearts. We accidebtally broke 1 plate, owner didnt asked for money and said it was okay but we gave anyway. He suggested places to eat and to visit so that was guiding.
Where do i start. We saw the pictures, comments and wanted to have a nice view. Its not owners fault that the weather is heavy rainy and foggy. But the house is extremely vulnerable to these conditions. It was so cold in the room that our breathing made steam. The door is prefabric door and whatever happens outside you can hear it perfectly. Finding uber or tuktuk is hard, we couldnt find any and owners tuktuk driver friends were busy so we walked in the heavy rain to ne city. So on and so forth. If you feel lucky and the weather is good go for it no problem. But if you dont want to take any risk about the weather i suggest you to look elsewhere.
The guesthouse is quite simple but great for one or two nights to Explorer the area. Which is absolutely amazing about this place is the family that owns it. They took really good care of us and the food they prepared for dinner was very good. They also helped us to organize day trips to explorer the area around the town.
Wasantha and Chithra were extremely welcoming, they made us feel like family. The food was excellent, the room very comfortable and the view was stunning.
We really enjoyed our stay at Woods Huts. We didnt have the best weather while in the area so we didnt get to enjoy the view but everything else was great! The hosts are incredibly warm and accomodating people. Anytime we needed anything they were right there to help. Its clear that they want people to have a positive experience staying with them and they want people to feel comfortable. Thanks for hosting us!!
This was our favourite stay in Sri Lanka. The hosts are beyond friendly and will do anything to make your stay perfect. The breakfast and meals that they prepared were delicious, thank you so much. They helped us plan activities even when the weather was not on our side but who needs to do much with views like these. The location is a bit out of town but we preferred it that way and easy to get with tuktuk. Would recommend to anyone who want to stay in Nuwara Eliya
The View is Nice. The breakfast and Dinner fresh and homemade. The Family is super Kind.
Nothing. It was just a changeover because of the Temperature.
Friendly hosts Delicious dinner Beautiful view
Dinner and breakfast excellent. Superb balcony offering great views. A lovely big room and our hosts Chitra and Wasantha were a delight. Also their son Rashi was also great with excellent English. A great find.
The steep hill you had to walk up with luggage to reach Guest House.
super friendly people, being very supportive and very cozy room with perfect view over nuwara eliya. they also provide very good food if necessar. great stay
If you are planning to go to Nuwara Eliya and you are looking for a place to stay (and this accommodation is still available): do not hesitate and come to this amazing homestay! Amazing views, good location, beautiful cosy room, delicious homecooked meals, a (good) scooter you can rent for a decent price,.. but most imporant: the warmest, friendliest people!
The family hosting the place is very friendly, helpfull and so lovely. They helped me with tuktuks or hiking routes. First thing i got was a tea when i arrived and self made cake which was amazing! The view from the balcony is breathtaking
Beautiful room with great view! Amazing hosts who helped us with great tips and transportation (they arranged the pick up from the station to the house and with the scooter rental). Delicious breakfast with great suggestions about the places to visit!
Woods Hut is quite difficult to find, so best to call the owner, Wasantha, for directions. The effort is ever so worthwhile. The room we stayed in is better appointed than many other more expensive hotels and the view is magnificent. Breakfast on the bedroom balcony is worth the cost alone. Chicra, his wife, cooked possibly the best evening meal we have eaten in Sri Lanka. They are both delightful to talk with, about their past, this house which Wasantha built himself, the wildlife, and their love of nature. Highly recommended.
We had a lovely 2-night stay here. The hosts were incredibly accommodating and ensured we had a comfortable stay and couldn’t do enough. We were greeted with tea and cake which was lovey. The room was amazing, very comfy bed and had everything we needed. The view was also spectacular. Thanks again for a brilliant stay!
Enjoyed the fireplace and the outstanding view from the large balcony. Good breakfast and lovely hosts.
The view was absolutely stunning. The room though basic was comfortable and clean. The hosts were fantastic very friendly and helpful. Wasnatha even phoned the train station to check on the arrival time of the train we were catching the next day. Breakfast was very tasty served to our room.
Nothing.
Wasantha is an excellent host. We had such a beautiful home stay experience with his family. His wife Chitra cooked us a beautiful Srilanka meal for dinner. The salad was amazing so was the chicken curry. We felt like our family was looking after us.
The location is not easy to find but Wasantha was great at communicating on what’s app.
We had very bad luck entering Nuwara Eliya but we were extremely lucky that we booked in Woods Hut! Owned by a lovely family and they made our stay unforgettable and we wish we could stay longer! An amazing fresh cooked breakfast was prepared for us! Each member of this beautiful family shows their love to their guests in their unique kind way and thank you so much for this amazing experience of hospitality 🙏
Everything was lovely! Thank you for everything!
Super owner, Hot water in the shower ( it is very important in Sri Lanka),good view from the terrace. Good breakfast! Good bed and blanket! Thank your son for picture of us)
Everything is good👐
We had a wonderful stay at Wood’s Hut thanks to Chitra, Wasantha and Rashi. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and even had fresh flowers. We had everything we needed and more. The food was healthy and so delicious. Wasantha organized a great tour of the tea plantations for us on short notice. And then the next day took us on a full day hike which was truly an adventure! We had such a great time and learned a lot about the local area. Can 100% recommend staying at Woods Hut!
Nothing
We felt like at home with this host family. Their hospitality and care was amazing, they helped us with everything. They also offer food that we can only recommend. The room was also perfectly clean and spacious. If you are thinking of having a nice stay in Nuwara Eliya, book this place!
This is a homestay, there is only one room for rent so you can feel like you are at home. The family is very helpful, nice and friendly. Breakfast was good: jam, butter, bread, coffee, tea, omelette, and toasts.
Could be cleaned up better
Chithra and her family were very very welcoming and full of love, Rashi their son made us a welcome and thank you card with our picture on it - was very sweet. The dad helped with our luggage on the walk to the house. Chithra made us amazing food and really cared about us. This is a real homestay - you stay in the room of the parents, to get into the room you have to pass in the kitchen which has a thin aluminum door into the room. You hear and smell everything in the room. Although Chithra was very thoughtful when i said my husband is vegetarian- she said she will not cook chicken for the 2 days we’re there. For me - it was awkward being in their house, although they made it very welcoming. The room is old and simple, does need a makeover to make it more appealing- that’s why I said it’s a real homestay. Big bed, loads of blankets and a heater as it gets very cold at night. Good hot water in a very simple washroom. Location - far from town in a very steep road to get there, that’s why we eat Chithra amazing amazing food for dinner and didn’t go out. For me it was the hosts that made my stay, less the place it self.
The neighbours dog that barked very loud half of the night
Had the most amazing stay at woods hut with the lovely family of Wasanthra and Chithra at their home. The room was spacious and had everything you need, coupled with an unbelievable view on the balcony. They helped organise my plans for the duration, with breakfast & dinner if you needed! I would recommend staying here to anyone during your stay in Nuwara Eliya, you will have the best time!
Put aside a few of your western standards and you will have a magnificent time at Woods hut with hosts Wasantha and Chithra; and of course Rashi, their son. They are really helpful in organising trips, predicting the weather (which is very useful in this sometimes cloudy/rainy area) and Chitra makes you a perfect dinner! Or if you like, you can go to the cafe, a 5 min walk, where you can play some pool and join a jam session.
The first time it’s a little hard to find, but if you follow Wasantha’s directions and call him a few minutes before you arrive he will be waiting for you.
Very relaxing and with a very nice view. We slept soo well in this place and the food and breakfast they made for us was so nice. Watching the clouds touch the mountain infront of us and the rain hitting the cieling while we were warm in bed was soo cozy and nice! :)
The hosts were amazing n made.us feel home with their warmth n hospitalality.
Lack of privacy.. their personal kitchen n home is adjoining the room ..the balcony is common with host.
Enjoy all of our stay breakfast was really good
Nothing
The host, wasantha, is one of the nicest guy’s I’ve ever met!! He told us a lot of the Historie and surrounding of nuwara eliya and gave us advices for things to do there and where we can get a good dinner! The few from the balcony is amazing! He even sent us a postcard to our home, with a picture of us!!
Attentiveness, friendliness. A real and authentic ‘HOME’stay. Price/Quality very o.k. Very Good and not predictable breakfast and dinner. A heater and blankets for when it is cold.
Quite outside of the center and only reachable for good tuktukdriver, but even there they helped us to let someone drive my tuktuk to the stay.
The host and his family are very kind! We really enjoyed the view in our room and the delicious breakfast in the morning.
One of the best hosts during our 4 weeks in Sri Lanka! We got to cook together, learned a new Sri Lankan board game and had a lot of fun with their son Rashi. Its a real homestay experience. They can help you with anything you need (transport, trip to Horton Plains etc). You can easily walk to the city centre. Would definately recommend.
This incredibly kind family welcomed us into their home and offered us nothing but genuine hospitality and kindness! They wen’t above and beyond to help us make arrangements and to make sure we had the best experience in Nuwara Eliya! The room was cosy and comfortable. We had the most delicious dinner we’ve had so far im Sri Lanka, filled with local flavors and prepared with love. Highly recommended!
The family that runs the place is extremely friendly and helpful. We had some issues getting train tickets, and they helped us to solve it. We had amazing views and a perfect breakfast.
The location is great for the views, although it is not easy to reach.
Everything was amazing! Wasantha, Chithra and their son Rashi have been so welcoming and lovely. They give us some welcome cards written in italian in order to thank us to have been there. Thank was so touching and kind. The room is really big, clean and there is a huge terrace with a super view. Also breakfast is really good! I totally suggest this place.
The view was very beautiful and the owners were very kind and attentive. The breakfast was delicious!
the room was a bit humid (probably like the rest of the area due to the heavy rains)
The view and hospitality were amazing. The room is big and comfortable. We loved the thick blankets. Wasantha, his wife and son made it an unforgettable stay.
Wasantha and Chithra’s property was perfect for our stay. They were so kind to us and very helpful. They organized a tuktuk to get us from the station and to visit the town and tea plantations. They also prepared delicious breakfast and dinner. The view is beautiful from the room (if it’s not too foggy) and there’s a heater for cold days. Would 100% recommend staying there.
Although we were only here 2 nights this accommodation was one of our favorites in Sri Lanka! Although the furnishings were relatively basic they were spotlessly clean and by the time we left it felt like we were in a palace - this was totally due to our wonderful, warm hosts. At first I was unsure as I enjoy privacy and we went through the hosts kitchen to get to our room but I loved it as our hosts were amazing, so friendly and gentle and took time to chat without being overbearing or intrusive. It was clear our comfort and wellbeing was their top priority for example with the offer of a heater as the weather was slightly cool. The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot. Breakfast in the morning was served in our room due to rain on balcony. It was delicious and plentiful. I don't want to comment under what I 'didn't like' as there was nothing but just for info this accommodation is up a short but very steep slope followed by a slim rough path so it may be difficult for those with any mobility issues
Wasantha immediately got in touch via Whatsapp to make sure we get there safely and it was very easy to communicate. The room is like in the photos, located in the home of Wasantha and his very kind family. He was very helpful with anything we needed, such as tips, recommendations, and transportation, and prepared us a lovely and delicious breakfast. Recommend for a very warm and genuine family experience. Probably more suitable for a shorter stay, especially if you happen to be there on colder days in Nuwara Eliya, as we did (15 degrees Celsius which feel like 10!). There is a heater of course and Wasantha was kind enough to turn it on during breakfast.
Very big bedroom with great views!! Wasantha and his family made our stay there more than special! They are a beautiful family, with the best hospitality that you can find. Wasantha is very attentive, looking after us for the 2 days that we stayed with them. His drivers are very lovely, specially Nishantha!! Chithra’s food is the best local food you can find around Nuwara Eliya. She made us a fantastic sandwich and delicious Kottu! Their son gave us a special and wonderful gift!! Thanks very much for those days, we’ll always remember you! All the best 🫶🏼✨
Can’t say anything bad!
We really enjoyed our stay and would have loved to stay longer. Very cosy and idyllic with a fantastic view over Nuwara Eliya! Chithra and Wasantha made us feel welcome right from the start, helped us to plan our next day and organized everything for us (transport, dinner, etc.). All in all, a perfect stay!
Wasantha and his wife are lovely people. He arranged a Tuktuk for our pick up at Nanu Oya station and also gave us a very warm welcome. The room is big, has such incredible views from the terrace and it is very calm with the sound of the forest. She offer us hot coffee and snacks in the morning! Comfortable room to visit Nuwara Eliya and enjoy the stay!! Their kid also wrote us a beautiful goodbye letter. Kindly family and place! We recommend it for sure!!
A lovely stay! They have only one room, so they make you feel like you’re part of the family. The food was excellent - fresh, home cooked and catered brilliantly for my gluten allergy. Despite not knowing about it, they made sure everything was safe (and delicious) for me!
The place was absolutely amazing, the room was so big and the view was amazing! The owners were friendly. They had a son who gave us a card and some souvenirs as a thank you for staying with them. The WiFi was good. And the room was so chilly during night as it was at the top of the hill. You will be sharing the balcony with the owners as they have a room right next to our room.
Breakfast is not included in the prize so we got some from them and it was a bit costly for bread and eggs. It was 800 LKR for one person.
Lovely family looking after us, very friendly and hospitable. Comfortable room with great view and delicious food.
I loved the attention to details paid by the host and his wife. They made me feel like at home. The owners' son was so lovely, he also prepared some gifts for me. The dinner and the breakfast were delicious. I can definitely suggest this stay to anyone that is looking for a real experience in Sri Lanka.
Nothing
The most welcoming and sweet family in Sri Lanka. They made our stay absolutely perfect at this lovely homestay with beautiful views. They organised a pick up from the train station and recommended everything to do/see. They provided great insights into Sri Lankan culture and life. Including the amazing homemade meals prepared for us. We would recommend everyone to spend some time with this beautiful family and discover the beautiful surroundings.
Nothing!
The service is extremely enthusiastic, offering to help with luggage proactively. The homestay owner's child greeted me with a handcrafted Chinese postcard, which was truly unbelievable. The welcome was done with great care and I could feel it. The next morning, I woke up early and the homestay couple also woke up early to prepare a delicious breakfast for me, which moved me deeply. Of course, everything in the room was great, and it was wonderful to enjoy the quietness at night. Located on a hillside, not far from the lake and city center, within walking distance for a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle.Until we meet again.
We had such an amazing stay with Wasantha, Chithra and their lovely son Rashi. We were made to feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived and they were so helpful and kind. They arranged transport for us from the station and kindly arranged a trip to the tea plantations and waterfall. The views from the property are amazing. Chithra cooked us a lovely breakfast each morning and a gorgeous evening meal. Would definitely recommend a stay with this lovely family for an authentic Sri Lankan experience
