Red Coconut Villa

Very friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. The room was amazing and very spacious. The pool area is really nice as well. The food was excellent, Aruna is an outstanding chef and we enjoyed every bite. If you get an opportunity, ask about the morning boat trip to see the wildlife around the lake and in the mangroves. We were picked up at 7am and the trip lasted around two hours and we saw loads of amazing wildlife. The cost is added to the hotel bill which makes life easier and is very reasonable too.

I proprietari sono stati davvero gentilissimi: ci hanno aiutato a organizzare il giro sul fiume a un prezzo davvero imbattibile e ci hanno anche offerto una noce di cocco. La struttura è a pochi passi dalla spiaggia, dove c’è una parte sia libera e gratuita che un’altra dove poter affittare dei lettini, ed è completamente immersa nel verde. Una bomboniera curatissima dove ogni dettaglio è stato realizzato con grande cura dal proprietario che è anche un artista. Un qualcosa di diverso dalle solite strutture. Consigliato!

The best food, feels like a very secluded paradise.

Superb accommodation, really nicely decorated. Rooms were spacious, comfortable and kept spotlessly clean. Staff were all friendly, welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. The pool was lovely after a long day flying. Breakfasts were varied and different from the standard fare (gorgeous Japanese omelette one morning)

Kathrin et son mari sont des hôtes merveilleux. Un accueil comme si nous étions de la famille. L'endroit une pépite, calme beau un décor très recherché. Les chambres sont magnifiques et confortables. La piscine, superbe. L'endroit est situé à deux pas d'une sublime plage. Nous avons diner sur place le mari de Kathrin est un chef délicieux diner. Petit déjeuner parfait. Ils ont eu la gentillesse de nous réserver une chambre pour le lendemain afin que nous puissions prendre notre douche avant de reprendre l'avion pour colombo l'après-midi. Cet endroit est un vrai paradis que nous avons du quitter avec regret.

Paradise! The lush gardens, the pool area was just wonderful. Katherin and Aruna were so friendly and informative. His cooking was out of this world and we thoroughly enjoyed treating ourselves to the surprise menu. Breakfast too was wonderful. Very informal and quirky, it was good to chat with the owners and staff. Only 3 rooms in this boutique hotel made it feel really personal and indulgent. Enjoyed having the dogs around as we missed ours back home. So close to beach as well. It was perfect.

Unser Aufenthalt in der Red Coconut Villa war einfach perfekt – eine glatte 10 von 10! Schon beim Ankommen wurden wir von einem wunderschönen Ambiente empfangen. Die gesamte Anlage ist mit so viel Liebe zum Detail gestaltet, alles ist äußerst gepflegt und strahlt eine besondere Ruhe und Wärme aus. Man merkt sofort: Hier steckt Herzblut drin. Die Hosts sind unglaublich aufmerksam, herzlich und kümmern sich mit echter Hingabe um ihre Gäste. Es fühlt sich nicht wie ein gewöhnlicher Aufenthalt an, sondern vielmehr wie ein Zuhause auf Zeit – familiär, entspannt und persönlich. Ein absolutes Highlight ist das Essen: außerordentlich gut, auf höchstem Niveau und mit viel Leidenschaft zubereitet. Der Koch versteht sein Handwerk wirklich – jedes Gericht ist ein Genuss und hebt sich deutlich von allem ab, was man sonst kennt. Die Red Coconut Villa ist eine außergewöhnliche Unterkunft mit allem, was das Herz begehrt. Für uns ist klar: Das ist der Place to be in Bentota. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen – ein rundum perfekter Aufenthalt!

Red Coconut Villa is a great spot to stay while exploring Bentota. Kathrin is a very friendly host who allowed us to stay in and use our room until late in the day due to our late night flight home. The rooms are comfortable & the gardens are lovely and the pool and pool area are a terrific spot to cool down. I highly recommend this place.

Lovely setting with the colorful japanese motifs and decorations. Easy access to the beach across the road. Great pool. Fabulous seafood dishes for dinner. Large rooms.

Rooms lacked natural daylight but this did keep the rooms cool.

A quirky off the road setting with the owners adding a colourful slant to the property. All open plan. The owner is a great cook Aruna and his wife Kathrin is a great host. Lovely pool. A very relaxing spot with only 3 rooms so it was lovely and quiet. The hosts organised massages for us which were great.

It's probably the most weird homestay we have tried. The whole property looks like a jungle. Exceptionally maintained. If only they could clean the pool more often. We arrived in the afternoon and wanted to go for a swim but the pool was literally filled with insects.

The only problem is that it's far from everywhere so options are extremely limited if you don't have a car. And, the beach doesn't have a lot of options, either.

This Villa was designed and built by the owners in 2019 using upcyclyed materials. The interior design is amazing, the roof is lined with a variety of materials and the mosaic paths are made from broken reclaimed tiles. Even the lovely dogs are rescues. The food is exceptional everything we have eaten since had been disappointing. The location is great, a 2 minute walk to the beach, which is really quiet and all the beach bars have free loungers. Kathrin has been so helpful arranging tuk tuks and tours for us. We cannot recommend this highly enough. Super chilled atmosphere

A little tranquil oasis. Such a gorgeous spot to spend time in. We didnt want to leave. The pool is wonderful and the space they have made is just glorious

Wunderschönes gemütliches Guesthouse mit drei Zimmern und verwunschenem Garten. Die beiden Gastgeber haben einen traumhaften Ort geschaffen, an dem man wunderbar ankommen und entspannen kann. Der Pool und Garten lädt zum Verweilen ein, am Strand gibt es mehrere Beachrestaurants mit Strandliegen (kostenlos bei Verzehr, Stand 01/26). Frühstück und Abendessen sind sehr abwechslungsreich und außergewöhnlich gut, alle Mitarbeiter geben sich viel Mühe, den Aufenthalt besonders zu machen. Massagen und Airport Transfers waren ganz einfach vor Ort zu organisieren. Kommunikation vor und während des Aufenthalts klappte ganz einfach über WhatsApp.

Absolut außergewöhnliches Hotel, super tolle Besitzer, Mega Ausstattung, hier ist an alles gedacht worden, wir fühlten uns wie in einem 5Sterne Hotel, beste Unterkunft in Sri Lanka mit einem sensationellen Preis Leistungsverhältnis. Wir fühlten uns wie daheim, absolut empfehlenswert, für die, die sich gerne verwöhnen lassen! Und dann die Mahlzeiten, die hier immer frisch zubereitet werden, einfach der Hammer!!! Wir kennen die Sterne Küche und fühlten uns von einem 2Sterne Koch verwöhnt! Alles in allem, die beste Zeit die wir hier jemals hatten!

Lovely place the owners have created, the cooking is incredible. Highly recommend.

The mosquitoes get bad around dusk but this is the case for quite a few places around Sri Lanka. About a 5 minute drive into Bentota so not in a village centre unfortunately

Nous avons aimé les dîners ,l’ambiance paisible qui y règne. Le calme de ces 3 chambres même si le train se trouve à proximité, mais à Bentota tous les hôtels proche de la mer sont situés près des rails . La plage ,de surfeurs, se trouve à 5 mn à pied . Et le centre à 10 mn en tuk tuk .

Wir verbrachten vier wundervolle Tage bei Kathrin und Aruna! Vom ersten Kontakt bis zur Abreise hatte Kathrin immer ein offenes Ohr für unsere Wünsche und hat uns bei allem Organisatorischen geholfen, was definitiv nicht selbstverständlich ist! Vielen Dank dafür ; ) Aruna hat uns kulinarisch mehr als verwöhnt! Er ist wirklich begnadet und man schmeckt die Hingabe welche er in seine Kreationen steckt! Kurz gesagt, vom Frühstück bis zum Abendessen, findet man keine bessere Adresse! Vielen Dank Aruna,…es war einfach köstlich!!!! Wir haben uns sehr wohl bei euch und euren lieben Mitarbeitern und auch den wunderbaren Hunden gefühlt! Ein Glück, dass wir euch gefunden haben! Wir kommen definitiv wieder : )

Starting with the great location — right in the middle of the jungle, yet close to a spectacular beach with all the amenities you may need. If you’re dreaming of peace, relaxation, meditation, or a massage, you’ll find it all here. Both owners are on site and always ready to help. For us, the most spectacular experience was the dinner. It wasn’t just a meal — it was a celebration, a sensory journey, and a discovery of new flavours. Aruna, the master chef, plays the leading role here, and he is truly exceptional. You can find many things elsewhere, but definitely not this. We highly recommend it!

Noch viel besser als auf den Bildern, mit sehr viel Liebe zum Detail gestaltet. Das Frühstück ist absolut empfehlenswert. Sehr tolle Atmosphäre, die beiden Gastgeber sind super nett und machen alles für einen möglich. Wir würden auf jeden Fall noch mal wieder kommen. Absolut Empfehlenswert!! ☺️

It's like living in a wonderful, quirky work of art. Few rooms means the gardens and facilities feel very private. The breakfasts were excellent but limited choices. Dinner is costly but we treated ourselves one night and it was very special.

Hard to find and its not clear you're at the right place when you do arrive.

This is a special escape from the often hecticness of Sri Lanka! Just a beautiful tranquil, zen setting..lush gardens. We were so happy with our stay. The hosts are terrific and do all they can to make your stay perfect. The room was large and super comfy.. maybe a touch dim but we were hardly in there! Pool was great and a welcome cool off point. The food was excellent and thoughtly constructed by a real chef (the owner! We ate here both nights! Wow! Thoughtfully constructed delicious meals. We loved staying here..going to watch the sunset at Bentota beach was magical. A big thank out to you all..and also all the cute friendly dogs, especially Charlie, who you could more or less with.. .your choice! Respectful pets...thank you kathrin and hubbie..you made this trip for us. ..

Wauw! Wat een bijzonder mooi, smaakvol en verzorgde plek! Een oase van rust, lekker zwemmen en heerlijk eten.

A beautiful oasis just outside Bentota. Very clean and comfortable rooms, with stunning gardens and a great pool too. Fabulous beach within 5 minute walk. The real highlight of this place is the incredible hosts and the food which was the best we’ve had on our 2 week trip in Sri Lanka. Would highly recommend staying here.

It is a tiny paradise jungle. Beautiful setting. So so clean and well kept. Pool was faultless. Rooms so clean with facilities. Restaurant was amazing. We did the normal routes across Sri Lanka but this was the best hotel with by far the best food. Cooked by owner and every meal was top quality.

If I had to pick fault the only thing I would say is the room we had could have done with brighter bulbs as was bit dim. But this is literally finding fault but it really wasn’t a problem.

It was in a quiet location. The garden was full of surprises with a beautiful swimming pool. Loved the trees and flowers and different relaxed seating options. Friendly helpful staff with good recommendations. The highlight was Aruna’s delicious food. We felt well taken care of. It is a delightful intimate villa having only 3 rooms.

Absolutely beautifully designed and decorated, very quiet and peaceful with loads of spaces to lounge and relax. Rooms were gorgeous and decorated stunningly. Really close to the beach and great for getting to a flight the next day if you are travelling from Colombo. In house restuarant was lovely food delicious and good atmosphere. We dined here every night.

Very little to complain about here, maybe some place to lay out in sun would be good but sure they would make that happen for you.

We loved our relaxing 2 nights here. It’s a little oasis with the beach in walking distance. Lovely room, pool, outdoor areas. Breakfast, dinner and drinks are all amazing ! Hosts are lovely as are all the staff there. Our favourite part is the 5 friendliest dogs who love cuddles!

Heaven on earth. We had such a relaxing and peaceful stay over 3 nights during our Honeymoon. Welcoming hosts, incredible food and such a unique location. The room had everything you needed for a comfortable stay and the pool was wonderful as well for a morning dip. Close to the beach where we chilled at a nearby beach bar during the day and then back for the most wonderful food that Aruna put together. They organised us a private 4 course meal while we were there and it was the best seafood we ate the whole trip. There were so many little extras and we were given some great recommendations too of things to do. We could not speak higher of the Red Coconut Villa team and hope to be able to visit again some day!

We loved the Red Coconut Villa, everything was perfect. The garden is amazing, like an oasis. Everything is so tastefully done, it couldn’t be better. The beach is across the road, so quiet. We enjoyed our last 2 days before we went home to England and it was the best place to finish. Thank you for everything! Paul + Monika

Amazing ambiance, it’s like coming into an oasis with all the plants and interiors. The couple who owe the place are very friendly and the food was amazing, both breakfast and dinner in their restaurant was delicious. We highly recommend this place.
