Reviewed Jul 19, 2026A lovely little cottage with all the comforts of home except Wifi or a TV or radio etc. It has everything needed for a short stay for a couple and was very comfortable for an overnight stay in an interesting historic area.
No complaints, although the lack of Wifi would deter some people. There is cellular coverage, so data is available through mobile services if you need it.

Reviewed Apr 15, 2026The cabin was very tidy and spacious. There was an induction stove, plates and cutlery, running water (hot and cold), a clean shower and a funny picture of a Yak above the bed. There was a chicken coop right next door and a nice view from the terrace. Sofa, chairs and bed were all comfy.
We couldn't figure out the sofa bed, so we just left it before we broke it. We did not meet the host(s?) at all. Which is, of course, not a given or a necessity and we did arrive very late in the evening, but it felt weird with how cute and personal the cabin was. Also, there was no wifi. Which is totally okay and not a requirement either, I just thought I'd point it out, as it's usually a given these days.

Reviewed Apr 6, 2026Lovely cottage and great there was no Wi-Fi nor TV. We had some concerns with some loud music coming through the walls from the back, but this didnt last long and was fine from that point. Very private driveway and entrance. safe place to leave our MTBs as nice and remote. Perfect spot for riding as it's on the doorsteps for many rides and some of the NZ great rides. We rode to Thames and back and the second day to Waihi. Good pricing and we will be back.

It was a little musty but we opened the doors and windows upon arrival and a room spray (provided) and all good.

Reviewed Feb 22, 2026What an amazing cottage in the heart of Karangahake Gorge. We spent the day doing the cycle tracks to come back to a relaxing cottage that was 10/10 clean and fully equipped with everything we needed for a 1 night stay. Even if the cottage is situated close to the main properly we heard nothing but cicadas all night. It was so peaceful and tranquil, we spent most of the night on the small deck stargazing. We made the most of the little BBQ outside plus the kitchen had everything we needed. We loved the quirky decor and also loveddd the little rooms sprays that had available! For the price, location and cleanliness, definatly one of the best overnight stays we have had. Would defiantly recommend! :)

Reviewed Oct 15, 2025太陽下山後屋內出現非常多的飛蟲，遍佈客廳、廚房、臥室與浴室所有空間，理解森林裡常有飛蟲，所以進入後都緊閉門窗，但還是發生此狀況，使用大量殺蟲劑也無法解決此狀況，導致完全無法安心用餐及休息，這讓整體住宿體驗非常不舒服，也非常失望。 第一時間聯繫房東但未果，隔日房東也確認確實存在大量飛蟲屍體，但認為他們不可控也沒遇到過，更反說是我們有打開窗戶跟燈吸引飛蟲導致，無法理解房東這種不負責且將問題推至房客的做法。 ps.下述各區域的照片中，黑點全是飛蟲屍體

Hosts were very helpful and not intrusive. Location is very good for cycling the gorge..there is a hill to the property so beware.!!

Reviewed Jul 7, 2025A really comfortable and quiet place. The cottage is clean with modern decor. Lovely to have farm animals outside the cottage. Great location close to walking tracks and Paeroa. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay.
Perhaps an extra blanket (one wasn't enough on for the very cold night) and pillow for the sofa bed.

Reviewed Jun 10, 2025This very clean and comfortable cottage is situated in a very quiet, private and beautiful rural location making it ideal for a romantic getaway for couples. The friendly hosts also provided a complimentary bottle of wine which was greatly appreciated.
The only slight negative was that the small heater in the dining/lounge area did not provide much heat on a very cold winter evening, although this obviously wouldn't be a concern in the warmer seasons.

Reviewed May 4, 2025The idea of staying in a miners cottage, so it exceeded our expectation in comfort, ease of parking, the cottage was pristine clean and the bed very comfortable with lots of extra blankets for the colder weather. We liked being beside the well cared for anmals and sitting out watching beautiful sunsets. We also enjoyed the quirkiness of some of the decor, the kauri Benchtop, the display table and especially the photos on the walls.
Maybe a more efficient heater for those old mornings and evenings.

There were also so many walks to explore nearby and the area is just stunning. The cottage was full of character, spotlessly clean, just perfect. Great value for money too.

KItchen equipment was a bit sparse. We would have liked to have been able to use a small pot with lid and a microwave. Suggestion: Extend the entry deck to provide for table and seating; BBQ and set up on lower level is not appealing.

Reviewed Jan 26, 2025Really beautiful spot overlooking crown ridge. Very peaceful and well equipped cabin. Loved the little garden and all the gold mine related pictures and artifacts. Enjoyed the bottle of wine and the blue hydrangeas in the vase added a nice touch. We bought freshly laid eggs from the chickens in the next garden and they were wonderful poached on toast with a local Avocado.

It’s super clean and very well equipped. Views and terrace are delightful with direct access to animal farm (sheep and chickens). A lot of historical trails in the area. The family who owns the cottage is lovely.
Maybe a microwave would be nice even if the little oven do the trick.

Told us that there is a bbq to be used by us. Let us know that we could have purchased fresh eggs.
