Very friendly and helpful staff making sure I knew about all the different onsen around town.
Staff were very helpful
Wonderful ryokan in Kurokawa onsen. Delightful staff, beautiful facilities and a comfortable room. Definitely a place we would dream of returning to in the future
The open air onsen
Good location, friendly staff
Very noisy. There is some kind of pump or ventilation equipment that is INCREDIBLY noisy. It did shut off at 2:00 am and switched back on sometime between 5 and 6 am. It was so noisy that it was hard to fall asleep.
The property is located nicely in the middle of the town, with a convenient store that opens till night time nearby. The room is spacious and clean. Outdoor onsen area was done up very beautifully, love the short little walk to the onsen area. Meals were great, staff were patient to explain and asked if I needed anything.
Stayed at room 210. I think there was a compressor or some sort of machine outside or nearby my room window, hence for a period of time at night, it was rather noisy. I thought it was the fridge and tried to unplug it, but the noise persisted, hence the conclusion that it's from outside.
Location was excellent All of the staff were great apart from the main receptionist, rude and unhelpful (suprising for Japan) Breakfast was amazing; breakfast staff were also amazing.
Receptionist (main) After arriving we had a mukade (poisonous centipede) in our room. We are travelling with a one year old and obviously due to the nature of the hotel was sleeping on the floor. As soon as we arrived my partner spotted this centipede and after googling realised it was poisonous and a bite is very painful. We disposed of it ourself then went downstairs to raise this with the receptionist who laughed and said did you get rid, I said yes and he said thank you (no apologies) The following morning we had breakfast at 8 am. Travelling with a one year old we was running a bit behind time, with the rooms having no shower facilities we needed to shower before proceeding to the next destination on our trip. We quickly packed after breakfast and dropped the keys to reception at 09:15 (45 mins before checkout) with the intention of using the springs and facilities to wash. By 09:55 the receptionist was banging on the hot spring door telling us to "hurry up" and vacate the hotel. We've never experienced this in a hotel before and certainly not in Japan. We asked if we could quickly look at the outdoor hot spring as we did not get an opportunity to see this and he sternly said "no, hurry up". After arriving at 10pm and only staying for one evening we was extremely dissapointed we did not get to use the facilities, especially being one of the more expensive hotels in the area. Really disaapointing first night in Japan. Would not stay again.
Nice outdoor onsen.
Cannot bath or shower in the room
If you want an authentic (as far as I know anyway) and delightful experience of Japanese hospitality then this ticks the boxes. The staff are charming and the accommodation and food a very Japanese experience.
Being near the onsen our room smelled like a schoolboys stink bomb - you get used to it. Parking was a bit tricky but due to the very helpful staff it was fine, just don’t arrive before check in time. The food was a fascinating experience in so many new tastes - but it was an expensive addition - though there actually aren’t that many places to eat outside the hotel.
Loved the traditional experience and the outdoor onsen was lovely.
Misato is centrally located where all the shops are. Staff were polite and helpful. Meals were good. The Vietnamese female staff is very proficient and is an all-rounder, working from front desk to serving in the dining room.
TOTALLY WRONG room description for their Japanese- Style Room. "Guests will have a special experience as this triple room provides a private open-air bath". The word "PRIVATE" is supposed to mean your own bath within your own room but instead, you are to share bathing facilities in the public bath area with strangers. In fact, all rooms in their ryokan do not have private open-air bath as claimed in their description. There is no ensuite bathroom in the room, just a toilet. The staff told me the description given by Booking.com is wrong hence they will not take responsibility. I asked for an extra pillow since the one in the room is too low for me and was told by the male receptionist that each guest is only entitled to one piece. Additional pillow is charged at ¥500 each!! This is unbelievably ridiculous. All hotels provide extra pillow without charging. The tatami mattress was hard and thin. Could not sleep well.
First stay at a ryokan- a unique Japanese experience. Had a very relaxing stay overall and the location of the ryokan is perfectly situated to explore Kurokawa. The staff were extremely helpful and tried to explain things the best they could despite the language barrier. The indoor onsen was small but relaxing, it made my skin feel really nice the next day. I personally didn't try the outdoor onsen however my partner did and said that the smell was quite strong.
There were renovations being done to the outside of the building which doesn't look the best on arrival. No bathroom/ shower of any kind in the actual room which was inconvenient. The meals provided were plentiful but also a bit unusual-- I'm an avid traveller and enjoy very different kinds of food however I'm not sure if I can say I "enjoyed" the kaiseki dinner which for the price point I think is a bit of a let down.
The lights on the walk to the outdoor Onsen were beautiful and the view from the bath was amazing. We had the daily special dinner and it was fantastic. For those with who need larger it was easy to switch. The staff was very helpful and nice to talk to.
Exterior construction underway. But the daily work finished by check-in time so it didn’t bother us at night.
Classic Ryokan experience
Lovely old fashioned Ryokan. The staff and the owner are exceptional and speaks English. The meals were delicious.
Some areas are pretty old, though this can add to the character.
Absolutely stunning location and very helpful staff. Breakfast was a masterpiece.
The landlady showed me where to visit in the area (Aso) on the day I checked in, which was very helpful! Her hand-written map of the Kurogawa Onsen with colorful illustrations was also useful when strolling the town. The place was clean, cozy and has both inside and outside baths (roten buro) which is open 6:00 to 23:00. Nothing to complain. Thank you so much for your hospitality. You made my stay very memorable!
