Reviewed Sep 2, 2026Umoya is an incredible lodge. The facilities, the location, the tranquility, the attention to detail, but especially the staff. The staff is what makes this place so unique. You feel instantly welcome and looked after as friends, rather than guests. One of our party had food allergies, and all the team went out of their way to understand these and ensure we could be catered for...going as far as buying new kitchen equipment to ensure minimal risk of contamination. The food was excellent, and Happy and his team never failed to deliver. The bar staff, Jan, Chris and the others, always ensured your glasses were full and were great fun during our time in the main lodge. But a real highlight were the game drives. Rassie, our guide, is exceptionally knowledgeable and his passion for the bush and wildlife was always evident...and he loved sharing this with the guests. This was a truly memorable stay and I'm sure we'll be back. Thank you, Umoya

Reviewed Jun 27, 2026Umoya Safari Lodge was exactly what we needed. It was so quiet at night, the lodge itself is beautiful and very clean, and the staff at reception were super friendly. Great stay all round. David and his kitchen staff makes delicious food. I loved everything about the place 🤗

Reviewed Jun 12, 2026Sehr moderne Lodge mit toll ausgestatteten Zimmern. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Game-Drives waren Dank unseres Rangers sehr unterhaltsam und wir haben viele Tiere sehen können. Besonders gefallen hat uns das sehr leckere Braai am letzten Abend draußen im Boma.
Die Aussicht aus unserem Zimmer (Nr. 5) war nicht ganz so schön.

The game drives were amazing - the animals were within minutes of the lodge .
Had the best fillet steak 🥩 EVER at the Boma. All meals and drinks are included. The room was large and really well appointed. All the staff were so helpful and focussed on out enjoyment .

Reviewed May 25, 2026This is a dream lodge. The cabins are five stars. Spacious, comfortable, luxurious. The bed is super comfortable. The biggest walking closet imaginable (no need to have your luggage in the middle of the room). Absolutely great view. Great AC. Everthing felt like staying at a spa. All the amenities were in perfect condition. Would love to come back soon.
Water pressure on the shower was a bit weak, and temperature was uneven, but it was still okay. Dinner Friday night (pizza night) was not great, but I think they realized that (everyone is entitled to a bad night). The other meals were fantastic.

Reviewed May 3, 2026O hotel é incrível e os funcionários muito atenciosos. A comida deliciosa também e muito bem servida. O quarto é super espaçoso e confortável. Tivemos dias muito agradáveis na acomodação.
Confesso que após ficarmos 4 diárias as refeições ja estavam se repetindo (todos eram pratos feitos), porque me parece que usualmente as pessoas ficam menos diárias...então o menu segue a sazonalidade de curta estadia.

Everyone did the most to ensure we had the most special stay, even arranged a late checkout for us as we had a late transfer back to Johannesburg. Thank you, we cannot wait to come back and visit another time.

Reviewed Mar 8, 2026moderne neue und toll designte Suiten (Bungalows). Sehr exklusiv und persönlich mit maximal 10 Gästen. Hervorragendes Essen und sehr persönlicher Service. Besonders möchten wir Viktor und Happy hervorheben.
Pilanesberg bietet eine außergewöhnliche Landschaft, die Safariausfahrten mit Russy waren sehr gut und fachkundig, obwohl man nur (im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Privat Game Reserves) auf den offiziellen Wegen fahren darf.
Jammern auf hohem Niveau:
die Terrasse der Suite könnte größer sein und eine Liegemöglichkeit haben. Liegen gab es dafür am Pool, der aber zum Schwimmen nicht groß genug war.

Uns fehlte auf dem Zimmer die Grundinformationen zur Lodge.
Es war zwar alles inklusive.
Es gab aber z.B. keine Speise.-bzw Getränkekarte um mal eine Vorauswahl treffen zu können oder auch nicht, wie man sich auf dem Gelände bewegen kann.
Zudem fehlte Information zu dem National Park.
Hier hätten wir gern mehr allgemeine Informationen bekommen.
Man kann natürlich alles während der Safari- Touren erfragen. Diese finden aber natürlich in Englisch statt.

Reviewed Feb 11, 2026Alles. Für uns war es perfekt. Wir sind mit 8 Erwachsenen und 2 Kindern (1 und 3 Jahre alt) angereist. Es wurde sich super um uns gekümmert. Das Essen war super. Die Game Drives ebenfalls perfekt.
Auch unsere private kleine Feier wurde liebevoll organisiert. Wir hätten es uns nicht besser vorstellen können. ❤️ ein riesen Dankeschön🤍

Lodge maravilhoso. Fui em viagem de férias em janeiro. Toda equipe é muito simpatica e solícitos, querendo te agradar e trazer o maior conforto possível.
Quarto grandes de alto padrão, com chuveiro e banheira. Vista linda. Cortina automática.
Todas refeições inclusas e preparadas por chefe Happy que estavam deliciosas. Bebidas tambem incluídas.
A estadia deu direito a 2 game drives por dia. Um bem cedo e outro no fim da tarde.
O guia Rassi era excelente e vimos 4 dos big five.

Reviewed Dec 30, 2025Staff was incredible. Very accommodating, friendly and professional. The effort made by the staff, to ensure we enjoyed our stay, was phenomenal. All meals, drinks and game drives were included. Several options for each meal. 2 game drives a day. Fully stocked bar, pool, pool table and dart board. Limited rooms, so it's never too crowded. Value for money is excellent. Overall, an excellent experience

Reviewed Dec 22, 2025From the get-go, communication was early and clear from both Lize and Jenni. They provided a ton of information, including details of spa treatments available. The rooms were amazing and so very comfortable. I was glad that there were only a handful.of rooms, as this gave a sense of privacy and exclusivity. Emma, our stand-in game warden, was top-class: enthusiastic and made a real effort to show us the reserve animals,, including predators and rhinos. There was so much food!. :).

Reviewed Nov 21, 2025Mooie locatie met mooie verzorgde kamers, lekker eten, goede game drives met ervaren ranger. Uitzicht vanuit de centrale lodge en de kamers is eerder beperkt (enkel bush). Personeel doet erg zijn best maar hier zit zeker nog verbetering in. Je merkt dat het een jonge equipe is die nog weinig ervaring heeft in de horeca.
Bij het vertrek deed het jonge management niet eens de moeite om ons te bedanken en vaarwel te zeggen. Zij blijven onbewogen aan hun tafeltje zitten en waren blijkbaar veel drukker met andere dingen. Dit gaf ons geen goed gevoel. Er zit zeker nog verbetering in gastvrijheid om hun cliënteel meer een thuisgevoel te geven. De juiste details ontbreken no, dus werk voor verbetering.

Reviewed Oct 25, 2025Mit den Übernachtungen bucht man ein ganzes Erlebnis. Die Lodge ist wunderschön und das Essen unglaublich lecker. Doch das Highlight sind die Game Drives. Jeden Nachmittag und Morgen startet eine Safari mit einem Guide. Und wir hatten so tolle Ausflüge. Ich kann das nur weiterempfehlen.

Reviewed Sep 15, 2025I had an excellent stay. The safari guide and the entire staff were very attentive and friendly. The chef prepares delicious meals with great care! They even organized a barbecue night, which was absolutely fantastic! We were on our honeymoon, and the staff were so thoughtful and caring with me and my husband. They even surprised us with a welcome bottle of sparkling wine ! I truly recommend this hotel.
Rassie the guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable and loved his job. Saw rhino, zebra, giraffe, elephants, lots of impala. Did spot lions but only from a distance. Food was great and plenty of it. Villas were exceptionally clean. Staff also very good. Having only 5 villas it is a personal lodge and very quiet. Thoroughly recommended.

Reviewed Aug 8, 2025Tout a été parfait durant notre séjour. Jenni et Lize nous ont accompagné depuis notre réservation jusqu'à notre départ et ont rendu notre séjour inoubliable. Un grand merci également à Rassie, notre guide pour les safaris, pour sa disponibilité, sa gentillesse et tout ce qu'il nous as appris. Quant aux hébergements, ils étaient tels que les photos les présentaient, c'est-à-dire extrêmement spacieux et superbes ! Nous sommes venus en famille et nos enfants ont également été conquis.

Reviewed Jun 29, 2025On our arrival, apart from the lovely welcome, the staff arranged a wonderful cheese platter for us that we enjoyed while overlooking the watering hole. In general the staff were so friendly, always with a smile and really bent over backwards to make us happy. Our room was spacious and comfortable and the patio perfect for our alfresco massages. A beautiful lodge that just needs to sort out the details.
With regards to the food, I was surprised there was no afternoon tea / snacks before the game drive or more so for those that didn't go on the afternoon game drives... it's a long time between breakfast and dinner. Unfortunately our guide was a bit of a disappointment - she didn't bother asking us what we were interested in seeing and having been on many bush drives over the years we appreciate that there is more to the bush than just the big animals. Our guide seemed to ignore the wonderful birds, flora and smaller animals that can be just as fascinating. I actually skipped some game drives because of it. The shower had poor pressure and on a final note it would be nicer if the communal area (dining and bar) was warmer in the evenings so that you can relax and want to spend time there.

Reviewed May 6, 2025Umoya Lodge is a true gem! It perfectly blends rustic charm with elegant, modern touches. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed. The bar area boasted an exceptional selection, and every meal we enjoyed was prepared impeccably – a testament to the chef's skill.
Our room, a short and private stroll from the main lodge, was simply massive, featuring a truly humongous and comfortable bed. The cleanliness was impeccable, and the fresh, inviting scent made it feel instantly like home. The highlight, however, was the fully retractable glass wall/door, which seamlessly brought the stunning outside in, creating a truly immersive experience.
A special mention must go to Rassie, our game driver. His knowledge of the area and its wildlife was outstanding, and his entertaining personality made every game drive an absolute delight. We eagerly anticipated each opportunity to explore the picturesque Black Rhino Reserve and Pilanesberg Reserve. Witnessing the breath-taking sunrises and sunsets each day was an absolute dream. In fact, one of the evening drives turned into the most unforgettable moment of my life – Rassie took us to a stunning lookout hill where I proposed to my now fiancé!
A heartfelt thank you goes to Elnè and Chris for helping make that special moment happen.
The entire trip to Umoya Lodge was truly unforgettable. The only regret we have is not booking a longer stay. We are already planning our return and will definitely be staying longer next time to soak in more of this incredible experience. If you're looking for a blend of luxury, adventure, and breath-taking scenery, Umoya Lodge is an absolute must!

The staff during our stay were incredibly helpful, friendly and seemed proud of their job. The food was top notch (thanks David and Happy!). The setting is amazing and the photos don’t do the rooms or communal spaces justice. We did two game drives over our stay and Rassie was equal parts friendly and knowledgable.

The chefs are incredible. Definitely one of my highlights. I’ve been to various game reserves (Madikwe, hoedspruit, Kruger, Dinokeng). I must say the food here for the size of the property they really took time with the food. Thanks David and Happy.
The game drives are an exploration of two reserves: the PM game drive is the smaller Black Rhino reserve (2hrs) only 1-2 Big 5, the AM is the Pilanesberg National Reserve (4hrs) which holds all of the big 5. It was raining a lot so we did r get to see a lot of animals unfortunately, but the elephants did come right up to the waterhole that was by the lodge, it was an amazing siting.
The rooms are even better in person, our curtains were motorised and there was a kill switch right next to the bed to turn off all the lights. A truly beautiful place
I enjoy a good strawberry daiquiri, they lacked the supplies to make it. Spirits, local beers and wines are your best bet within the all-inclusive.
People can get rowdy at the dining hall and it echoed to the rooms, it did impact us waking up for the 5:30 game drive. I did inform the staff, of our disgruntledness and they handled the feedback well. I do hope to visit again with less disturbance.

Reviewed Oct 26, 2024All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The dining and kitchen staff, Chris, Veronica, and David were very attentive to our dietary needs/restrictions and all of the food was wonderful.
Rassie, our safari guide, knows the park and animals very well and worked with other guides to get us some wonderful and up-close views of several animals. We also learned quite a bit about the animals and their behaviors from him.
The lodge is beautiful, and our room was very comfortable and had a lovely view of the surrounding hills.
If you're going on the morning game drive, and are the type of person who needs to eat right away in the morning, I would suggest bringing snacks/nibbles, as there are only light biscuits and refreshments offered before and during the drive.
