Steps Garden Resort

We only stayed for 1 night after a late flight but it was perfect! Incredible value for money. The room was comfortable and clean, we had breakfast included the next day which was basic but tasty and fresh. The service was excellent, they helped us with our bags and were so welcoming and friendly. They also offer a free shuttle service from the airport which was so helpful for us and easy to organise!

Nice resort only 15 minutes away from the airport. Staff are kind and readily available. The pool area is great.

We stayed at the top cottage and had some issues with the wildlife. On our first day some rodent (probably a squirrel) entered the room and left some small faeces spread around the room. On the next day, it managed to eat into our backpack searching for a banana inside, leaving our backpack destroyed in the process… we would recommend sealing the room properly from the outside to avoid this kind of issues.

location was good, pool is clean and the restaurant is near the pool giving a nice vibe. we stayed at the tree house and it was great.

food is too pricy for less portion. we couldn.t enjoy the outside balcony because of too much mosquitos. even when swimming no one can sit around the pool in the evening because too much mosquitos

le personnel a été très bruyant toute la nuit depuis la chambre du dessus (appels personnels, prières, vidéos sur les réseaux sociaux) et nous a empêché de dormir. Après être monté demander le silence, le bruit a tout de meme repris, et ca toute la nuit. Lorsque nous avons signalé le problème à l'accueil le lendemain matin, la dame a la reception ne l'a pas pris au sérieux.

Die Bungalow Anlage ist sehr schön gestaltet, das Personal sehr freundlich. Wir waren die einzigen Gäste und die Küche hat fürs Abendessen extra für uns geöffnet. Der Transfer zum Flughafen war bereits im Preis inklusiv und wurde vom Personal super organisiert. Herzlichen Dank - wir kommen gerne wieder.

Unsere zwei Nächte im Steps Garden Resort waren wirklich toll. Bereits bei unserer Ankunft wurden wir an der Rezeption sehr herzlich empfangen. Alle Mitarbeitenden waren unglaublich freundlich, aufmerksam und hilfsbereit, sodass wir uns von Anfang an sehr wohl und willkommen gefühlt haben. Unsere Hütte war gemütlich und schön eingerichtet und die ruhige Umgebung hat uns besonders gut gefallen. Nach einem Tag in Negombo konnten wir uns wunderbar am Pool erholen. Die Unterkunft liegt etwas ausserhalb und dadurch angenehm ruhig, trotzdem ist man schnell in der Stadt. Als wir ein Tuk-Tuk benötigten, wurde uns direkt eines organisiert und wir wurden kurze Zeit später abgeholt. Auch das Essen hat uns begeistert. Sowohl das Abendessen als auch das Frühstück waren sehr lecker. Besonders in Erinnerung bleiben uns dabei auch die herzliche Bedienung und der Koch, die beide sehr aufmerksam waren. Insgesamt haben wir unsere Zeit im Steps Garden Resort sehr genossen. Die Kombination aus der ruhigen Lage, dem schönen Pool, dem guten Essen und vor allem den herzlichen Menschen hat unseren Aufenthalt besonders gemacht. Wir können die Unterkunft wirklich jedem empfehlen – egal ob Familien, Alleinreisenden oder Backpackern. Nochmals vielen Dank an das gesamte Steps Garden Resort Team für die schöne Zeit. Wir haben uns bei euch rundum wohl und willkommen gefühlt!

Het personeel is enorm vriendelijk, het zwembad is erg fijn.

Je kon niet echt warm douchen, het was eerder lauw water. Ontbijt was niet ons ding, maar dat is natuurlijk persoonlijk. Het is wel typisch sri lankaans. Dus misschien wel heel leuk voor de ervaring.

Als erste Station ein guter Einstieg in unsere Sri Lanka-Rundreise. Die Kinder liebten den Pool und die vielen Tiere, die Ihnen begegneten. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und bemüht.

Das Kartenlesegerät funktionierte nicht. Das war ein ziemlicher Stressfaktor beim Versuch zu Bezahlen.

The location was good and close to the airport. The staff was very welcoming and helpful, but other than that we had a disappointing experience

I had booked the tree house - now I know that a tree house is surrounded by nature but the photos posted here showed it was made of concrete. However, those seemed to have been the cabanas only and our tree house was made of wooden panels which had holes inside. We were not able to sleep as there was a lot of different inserts inside the room and in the washroom. In addition, there was a lot of noise coming from the roof - there were squirrels jumping and playing. It was so loud we could not sleep. My other issue was the fact that I they had advertised free pick up from airport which I was later told is not included in my package. They also told me on WhatsApp that I can get a sim from them, but the staff was not aware at all and said it’s not available.

The Staff were friendly and helpful and the pool was nice and clean.

Great location for the airport. Great value for money.

Heerlijke plek om te landen na een lange vlucht. We konden nog lekker zwemmen en het eten werd ter plekke voor ons klaargemaakt. Vriendelijk personeel ook die alles voor ons wilde regelen.

The resort was very pretty. Lots of beautiful gardens to wander and explore. The pool was excellent and they did provide us with a towel and cushions. The in-house restaurant cooks lovely fresh Sri lankan food. They will make it non-spicy for you. The cocktails are also very nice as well. The rooms air conditioning works well. The complimentary taxi to the airport was also a good idea. The resort is great value for money. We used it for full days relaxation before we went to the airport.

I would have liked a kettle in my room. That is unlimited tea and coffee at breakfast. I couldn't get the hot water to work but I didn't bother asking.

Beetje vergane glorie, kleine kamers zonder muggennet, harde en kleine bedden, geen warm water in de douche, vuil zwembad, in restaurant moet je heel lang wachten op je eten.

Nous sommes en totale immersion dans la jungle, on entend les chants des oiseaux. Piscine très agréable, et lodges très bien aussi. Le personnel s’est montré très à l’écoute et disponible (merci Mihtme !) C’est le parfait endroit pour se prélasser après le vol !

We landed and arrived strait to here and it was a perfect place to recover feom the flight. The stuff helped us with food and changing money at night, because we had some delays in the airport. It was amazing to be within the wetland/ forest, with many animals around, some of them are wild and some if them belong to the place. We really anjoyed the pool. The beds were comfortable.

My kids would prefer a deeper pool.. but they enjoyed it anyway :) Food is basic.

Excellent value for money. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. A lovely place to stay, and the restaurant serves excellent meals, with charming staff and very affordable prices.

Vi endte i træhytten. Her var væggene tynde, toilettet kunne ikke skylde ud og dyrene løb rundt på taget. Vi fik en meget dårlig nats søvn i denne bolig. Jeg er dog sikker på stedet er super fint i de andre værelser

We got a free pickup from our accommodation; the room was nice. Very beautiful gardens and swimming pool. The person who picked us up took us to a restaurant for dinner (unfortunately, we didn't have any money in cash to tip him).

The breakfast was of poorer quality than at other places we stayed in Sri Lanka; our shower dripped all night long; and the room had cobwebs. The property converts the price into dollars and then into rupees, so you don't end up paying the price shown on Booking.

Der Service und das Personal ist klasse. Super aufmerksam und jederzeit um uns bemüht.

Das Familienzimmer entspricht leider nicht mehr den Bildern und lässt mehr erwarten als es aktuell ist. Für einen kurzen Aufenthalt ok, aber es bedarf einiges an Erneuerung. Zu wenig Platz, einiges muss ersetzt und erneuert werden. Für 4 Personen in einem Raum lebt man aus der Tasche bzw. Koffer.

The staff were extremely accommodating, going above and beyond every step of the way. The room was clean and comfortable and was a joy to stay in. The breakfast the next morning was delicious and extremely filling.

Cuando llegamos el cocinero nos dijo que no tenía más de la mitad de comida de la carta. Teníamos muy pocas opciones para elegir. La habitación muy básica para su precio ya que cerca de la playa por el mismo precio había más oferta. Las camas super pequeñas para ser dos camas grandes en el anuncio. Somos dos adultos y dos niños y los adultos dormimos muy apretados

I had a very pleasant experience at this hotel. The rooms are clean and cozy. The courtyard is very pleasant and beautiful, with an incredible amount of greenery—it feels like you’re walking through a beautiful jungle rather than the hotel grounds. The staff are very friendly and helpful; they assisted me with any questions I had. The food at the restaurant was delicious. There’s a very beautiful pool that’s practically surrounded by greenery. We rented a treehouse, and I absolutely loved it. My girlfriend wasn't too keen on some of our Sri Lankan neighbors who kept coming into our room, but we knew what we were getting into when we booked this particular room. I highly recommend this place.

A bit far from the airport

Close to airport and the pick up service was great. Nice gardens on the property.

We arrived late so that may have been the reason, but we were put in a small dark room at the back of the property that didn't match the photos at all. The other rooms with access to the gardens looked nice though from what we could tell the following morning. As expected given its proximity to the airport, the plane traffic started early in the morning but it wasn't excessive

We kwamen midden in de nacht aan werden keurig opgehaald van het vliegveld. Van te voren was de communicatie prima. Het verblijf was op zich prima. Kamer niet al te groot maar voldeed. Het zwembad was heerlijk om in te zwemmen. Het is allemaal prima verzorgd. Prijs kwaliteit verhouding goed.

Achteraf was het niet onze beste accommodatie. Als ik opnieuw zou boeken zou ik denk ik toch aan zee iets boeken.

Es liegt wirklich sehr außerhalb, weshalb eine Nacht direkt vor Abreise bzw. nach Anreise vollkommen ausreicht :)

Mooie opzet van het resort met zwembad en planten e.d.

Ons appartement Golden Apple was zeer beperkt en slecht. Aankomst werd niets verteld over waterboiler. 3e bed had slechter matras dan andere. Gewoon een saaie ruimte met 3 bedden. Geen waterkoker, geen fohn geen koelkast. Slechtse was dat het vies was, overal spinnenwebben wat veel insecten aantrok en veel stof. In badkamer hing ook alles los, scheve plankjes, niet bleeft overeind staan. In 3 dagen geen enkele service, geen beddenopmaak, schone handdoeken of vuilnis ophalen. En plek voor vuilnis te brengen was er ook niet (gevraagd!) Ontbijt zeer beperkt, beetje lokaal eten en bij dag drie kwamen we erachter dat je Engels ontbijt kon krijgen maar op verzoek. Nergens uitleg over. Alles moest je vragen.

Personal war sehr freundlich. Schöner Pool, toller Garten.

We stopped here for our last night in Sri Lanka. The place is located a little of our the main time, which suited us. The garden around the property is lush- lots of plants, birds, chameleons, fireflies... We enjoyed walking around. The pool is clean and big, with areas to relax around it. The chalets comfortable- they had everything we needed. Finally, the staff was so friendly and helpful- always available and clearly taking lots of care to look after the place.

The grounds of the property are pretty and peaceful. The room I was staying in was fairly comfortable with a good balcony.

My interactions with most staff were great, apart from at checkout presumably with the property manager. He was very rude and patronising to me about checking out at 6am. This is despite them saying they have 24 hour reception, one of the main reasons I booked! I would expect better from a hotel entirely geared up for people using the nearby airport. The food offer and quality was very standard, the pool water a little murky. Maybe would be better to stay closer to Negombo as there are few restaurants in the area so you’re forced to eat at the hotel.

The gardens were gorgeous- like a mini tropical botanical garden. The pool was a good size to swim in and great area for relaxing. Extremely friendly staff. Great showers!

Lots of standing water means mosquitoes! Bring spray. They can’t help it but the local bread Tuk Tuk so early in the morning and it’s annoying song! (It happens across Sri Lanka- you’ll be very familiar with the tune by the end of your stay!)

The staff, gardens and food were all fantastic. Very kids friendly, helpful staff and lovely pool. We would definitely come back. Thank you all very much for our stay ☺️

We were satisfied with our stay overall. The main advantage of this property is definitely its proximity to the airport, which makes it especially convenient for travelers arriving in or leaving Sri Lanka. There is also a free airport pickup if you stay there on your first night in Sri Lanka, which is a very helpful service. The staff were generally kind and accommodating. We also enjoyed the breakfast, and the property itself is interesting and varied, with a lot to look at.

Outside the property, there is not much of interest for tourists, and there are no nearby restaurants within easy reach. Our main criticism was the payment process at the end of the stay. We asked at check-in whether card payment was possible, and this was confirmed without any further explanation. We also asked again via WhatsApp and received the same answer. However, when it came to paying, we were told that we also had to cover the Booking service fee, which was not included in the invoice shown to us on Booking and added around 10% to the total. On top of that, card payment was subject to an additional 3% fee, which is not unusual in Sri Lanka, but we would have appreciated being informed of both extra charges when we asked in advance. In that case, we would simply have withdrawn cash beforehand. But we still had a nice stay.

Gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis (37 Dollar für eine Nacht), Gestaltung der Außenanlage (viele Pflanzen, Beschilderung von Kräutern, Hängematten), Außendusche mit starkem Wasserstrahl, Toilettenpapier und Duschartikel standen reichlich zur Verfügung, Gute Auswahl zum Frühstück (allerdings kaum gewürzt), Bezahlung mit VISA möglich, Parkplätze vorhanden, Tankstelle und Supermarkt in der Nähe, Unterkunft bietet Flughafenshuttle an, gelungene und moderne Optik

Warmwasserboiler muss zeitig vor Nutzung aktiviert werden (dann aber schön warmes Wasser), Bett wirkte instabil, Regendusche zu niedrig (unter 2 Meter)

Het hotel is handig gelegen ten opzichte van het vliegveld, vandaar dat we ook voor deze accommodatie kozen. Onze ervaring kwam helaas niet overeen met die van eerdere gasten. Wel was het zwembad net schoongemaakt, waar we heerlijk van hebben genoten.

We hadden 3 kamers, met elk hun mankementen. Eén kamer was behoorlijk klein met een bed van 1.20 m breed voor twee personen. We konden nauwelijks onze koffer kwijt en mijn man is bijna 3 keer uit bed gevallen. De andere twee kamers waren zeer gedateerd en hadden veel ongedierte, waaronder een kakkerlak ter grootte van je hand. Daarnaast was het eten ondermaats. Zeer gewoontjes en de nasi goreng had harde, ondefinieerbare stukjes. Het was ons laatste verblijf van de vakantie. We waren eerlijk gezegd blij dat het na deze nacht erop zat.

We stayed here several times during our tour of Sri Lanka and cannot thank the Resort enough for consistently providing us with a memorable stay - an exceptional gem in Negombo! Steps Garden Resort provides a courtesy pickup service from the airport, is set in lovely gardens, with a variety of bungalows at very affordable and competitive prices, plus a lovely clean pool with loungers (towels provided) adjacent to dining hall. The bungalows are extremely clean with comfortable beds (plus mosquito nets), and en-suite bathrooms with hot water. We had all our meals at the Resort and can vouch that the breakfasts and wide variety of freshly cooked dinners were delicious. The host, his wife and all the staff were exemplary, so very kind, extremely helpful, and engaging with guests, ensuring that their stay is satisfactory. We have been fortunate to travel to many countries, staying in a variety of accommodation, and Steps Garden Resort must rate as one of the very best. Thank you for such a wonderful and memorable stay… we very much hope to return. We can very highly recommend this lovely place, whether it be on arrival/ departure or even for a relaxing few days.
