EL Homestay Bunaken

Nous avons passé 3 jours à El Homestay et en sommes ravis. L’emplacement est idéal, la nourriture est très bonne (petit déjeuner inclus et nous y mangions le soir avec du poisson frais à chaque diner), le lit est confortable, la chambre est spacieuse (nous avions la Clim, un vrai plus vu la chaleur). Ce qui nous a surtout marqué est l’hospitalité de Stefen qui nous a donné beaucoup de conseil ! Nous avons fait une excursion avec lui (tour C) qui était très bien.

Nous avons tout aimé ! La chambre manquerait peut être d’un rangement et il faut savoir que l’eau de la douche est salée (mais comme beaucoup de logement à Bunaken).

Perfect location, Stefan is so helpful and very communicative we had the best couple of days here and were guided by his recs!

Stefan and his family were so so lovely and eager to help with anything. The food was incredible, the rooms were large and clean.

The rooms got very hot but you can pay extra for aircon if you wish!

Good location in centre of village. Stefen was very kind and spoke good English. Aircon was worth having (extra cost). Nice, simple breakfast. Free filtered cold water available from a machine. Basic, but great for us as a family. Bring cash as you have to pay at the Homestay (you can’t pay via booking.com). Nice atmosphere with guitars. One comment on Bunaken - there are no swimming beaches - it is reef snorkelling.

WiFi slightly temperamental in some rooms.

La ubicació i l’amfitrió es fantàstic! El menjar boníssim i sempre te predisposició de ajudar. Ens va llogar motos a molt bon preu i les excursions eren genials! L’habitació era gran i còmoda!

L’aigua de la dutxa era bastant salada. Menys que la del mar per això.

Un très sympathique lieu de séjour où nous avons passé de très bons moments, L'accueil fut chaleureux et le contact très amical avec Stefen et son épouse. De bons conseils et une aide précieuse pour organiser les activités. Chambre simple mais confortable. Avec climatisation (supplément). Repas sur place au top, copieux et délicieux. Emplacement parfait, au bout de l'île, à quelques pas de l'arrivée en bateau. Merci pour tout. C'était super. Un très bon souvenir pour nous. Une belle rencontre !!!

Stefan es un gran anfitrión. Hicimos varias excursiones en familia en su barca y disfrutamos mucho, turtle city, avistamiento de delfines. El snorkel es impresionante. Buena embarcación y precio. La comida casera estupenda, todos los días pescado preparado de diferentes maneras. Hay muy buen ambiente durante las cenas, gran lugar para conocer gente. El aire acondicionado merece la pena.

Super homestay à Bunaken. Le meilleur probablement je pense. Steven est d'une très grande gentillesse. Tout est bien : la litterie est bonne, le wifi est correct, la nourriture est excellente, la clim fonctionne parfaitement (moyennant un petit supplément pour l'électricité). Franchement c'était top. Steven arrive à avoir une super ambiance à table entre les guests, il parvient à proposer des bons plats, chauds, locaux, variés. Il a toujours le sourire. Il est toujours disponible. C'est vraiment bien !!!

Der Gastgeber war freundlich.

Wenn man die Klimaanlage die im Raum installiert ist benutzen möchte zahlt man täglich 100tsd idr was unverhältnismäßig teuer ist. Hinzu kommt, dass mehrmals täglich sowie auch in der Nacht der Strom ausfällt (hierzu wurde uns auch nichts mitgeteilt zu welcher Zeit und dass das öfter vorkommt). Eine Nacht viel der Strom mehr als die halbe Nacht aus, so dass du Klimaanlage dann auch nichts gebracht hat aber zahle musste man trotzdem. Die Touren über das Homestay waren mit Abstand die teuersten, also würde ich empfehlen wenn ihr Schnorcheln oder Tauchen möchtet, diese Ausflüge über eine andere Unterkunft zu buchen (geht Problemlos). Zum Essen wurde uns gesagt es kostet pro Person pro Gericht 75tsd (hier zahlt man auch Unterschiedliche Preise von Gast zu Gast wie es scheint. An einem Abend wurde ein Feuer von der Unterkunft gemacht, um Fisch zu Grillen für andere Gäste. Leider ist in unser Zimmer der ganze Rauch gezogen, so dass alles Gepäck dermaßen nach Rauch gestunken hat, dass man alles Waschen lassen musste, was auch ärgerlich war (Auslüften hat nicht geholfen, im Zimmer war es sogar nebelig vor Rauch).

Stefen saura vous mettre à l’aise, vous ne manquerez de rien. La cuisine proposée est d’un excellent rapport qualité/prix, le tout subjuguée par la musique de fond proposée par STEFEN à la guitare. Le logement est idéalement à 2min à pied du ferry public, et les chambres ne manquent de rien.

Der Besitzer Stefen war super nett und hat sich jeden Abend mit allen Gästen besprochen, was sie am nächsten Tag machen wollen. So konnte man sich zum Beispiel gut die Kosten für Ausflüge mit anderen Gästen Teilen. Die Gäste die Easen bei ihm gebucht haben, aßen alle zusammen. So entstanden schöne Gespräche und eine heimelige Atmosphäre. Das Essen war unfassbar lecker und reichlich. Während des Essens hat Stefen Gitarrr gespielt, was für eine sehr schöne Stimmung gesorgt hat. Die geplanten Touren waren super organisiert, es gab einen tollen Guide der einem viele Sachen Unterwasser gezeigt hat. Stefen hat sich die Zeit genommen und ist zu jedem Ausflug mitgekommen und hat dort für die Verpflegung gesorgt. Bereits im Vorfeld gab es einen super guten Austausch über WhatsApp mit Ihm, wo man alle wichtigen Informationen bereits erhielt. Wir würden jederzeit sofort wieder zu Stefan und seiner Familie ins Homestay.

Der Wasserdruck war etwas niedrig. Den Abstand zwischen Wassehahn und Waschbecken erhöhen.

Shower doesn't have any pressure so I used the bumgun as a shower... bit unconventional but it did the job!

Stefen was an excellent host; friendly, helpful and accommodating. We had a great time at his homestay and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Bunaken island.

I had a great stay on Bunaken Island. The host was very kind, helpful, and pleasant, and always happy to assist with anything I needed. The accommodation is basic but clean and has everything you need. The location is ideal, the food is delicious, and it’s perfect after a day of diving. Great value for money — I would definitely stay here again.

Mr. Stephen was perfect. Always attentive and available for any eventuality, he was a great tour organizer with no stress. He and his entire family were friendly but always discreet. The food was excellent and plentiful. Coffee and tea were always available!

Unfortunately, we couldn't close our bathroom door. It wasn't a problem for us, but it's best to fix it as soon as possible. That's my advice.

We had a wonderful time staying with Stefan and his family in Bunaken, who welcomed us with so much warmth and kindness. They were always happy to help with any questions or requests, and their hospitality was truly exceptional. Stefan also offers great day trips (like the dolphin tour), which we can highly recommend. The portions for breakfast (choice of sweet or savory), lunch, and dinner (vegetarian, meat or fish) were always generous, freshly prepared, and absolutely delicious. The homestay is very centrally located, and communication in English as well as before arrival was smooth and easy.

Air conditioning is available for an extra 100,000 IDR per day. This isn’t a negative point, just good to know before booking.

Nos encantó absolutamente todo aunque el tiempo no, nos acompañara. Stefen es un anfitrión maravilloso, que nos atendió increíblemente bien, nos acogió un día antes, facilitandonos todo los transportes y comodidades. La comida exquisita. Habitación cómoda y grande. Realizamos con él snorkel y todo perfecto.

Todo me encantó.

Nos hemos sentido como en casa. Habitaciones muy amplias y limpias. Stefen y su familia son unos anfitriones increíbles, siempre atentos a todo y con una sonrisa. La comida está súper rica y es muy variada, además amenizada con música todas las noches. Las excursiones también están genial. Si volvemos, repetiremos seguro!

TOUT. Les chambres sont propres et simples. Il y a la climatisation pour 100K IDR en plus. Le prix est imbattable. La nourriture est super super bonne. Mais ce qui nous a vraiment le plus comblé c’est la gentillesse de Stefen, l’ambiance conviviale dans le Homestay, et les excursions qu’il propose. Un vrai + sur l’excursion dauphin et turtle city où il s’arrange pour être le premier sur place. L’île est d’une biodiversité remarquable et la probabilité de voir des dauphins est très probablement de 90% voir plus.

Our four-day stay couldn't have been better. We had a large, very clean room with a comfortable bed. There was a spacious outdoor area with tables and chairs. The accommodation is quiet and very well located, everything was within walking distance in just a few minutes. The WiFi was very good. Stefen is a very attentive, courteous and warm-hearted host. Our snorkelling trips were unique. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, and the dinner was simply amazing; the best food we had during our several weeks in Indonesia. We highly recommend this homestay! Many thanks to Stefen and his whole family!

Stefen and his family were fantastic hosts! The meals were the best on our whole trip in Sulawesi and the tours with Stefen were really interesting. The snorkling spots were breathtaking and we loved to learn about the nature, culture and language of Indonesia and Bunaken! Our room was good and clean.

This place is so nice and clean. The food is great. The tours stefan did were so fun and so beautifull. Stefan is the best and we loved everything about our stay.

Stefen, Missi und El sind die besten Gastgeber. Ich habe mich direkt total wohl gefühlt. Es gibt eine gute Auswahl an Frühstücksoptionen und leckeres Essen insgesamt. Die Lage ist unglaublich zentral und trotzdem sehr ruhig. Ich komme gerne wieder!

Le gérant et sa femme étaient très accueillants et chaleureux. Ils proposent des activités intéressantes à des prix raisonnables pour lesquelles j’ai eu de très bons conseils ainsi qu’un excellent accompagnement. Le petit déjeuner était aussi très bon.

L’eau était fraîche.

This is the best place we have stayed in over a month in Indonesia! El Homestay was a home away from home in Bunaken. Stefen and his family went out of their way to make us feel welcome and help us with everything we needed. Right from getting to the port in Manado, they had arranged the boat staff to meet us to make sure we knew where to go. The homestay is perfectly located near dive shops and restaurants in the village. The food was absolutely sensational, we stayed 5 nights and had a different fish prepared with different and fresh flavours every day. The portions were very generous. There were several options for breakfast, all very filling and tasty.

It was an additional ~£4.50 per night for air con, but not an issue as we were fine with just the fans instead.

Staying with Stefen was one of the best experiences we had on our trip. If you want to be welcomed with the brightest smile on the island and be well looked after, this is the best place in Bunaken. We extended our stay twice and got to see all of the three rooms—they were big, clean and well maintained. The food (breakfast included) was very balanced, plentiful, and tailored to different dietary requirements if necessary. You can also go on various boat trips with him—unfortunately, we didn't get around to it, but if they are just half as good as the rest, they are definitely worth it! Many thanks to Stefen and his family!

The only thing I would note is that soap dispensers for the hands would be great in the bathroom.

Stefen en de familie zijn ontzettend lief en behulpzaam. Ze staan altijd voor je klaar als je wat nodig bent en als je vragen hebt. Het eten wat gemaakt en geserveerd wordt is ontzettend lekker. Groot aanbod aan tours die je kunt doen, zoals dolfijnen spotten en/of snorkelen. Bedankt voor deze fijne plek in Bunaken Stefen!!

This was truly the best homestay we’ve ever stayed at! Stefen and his family are incredibly warm and helpful. Stefen communicated wonderfully and organized everything for us to get to the island and back, which was such a big help. The place itself is fantastic, the trips Stefen offers are amazing, and one of the absolute highlights is the food! We had the most deliciously prepared fish, far beyond what we expected. Stefan is the best host you can possibly have - if you appreciate exceptional thoughtfulness, hospitality, caring and local knowledge. He will always take care of your needs, and help you with anything. If you are wise enough to have Stefan guide you for boat tours and to take you snorkeling, you will have the best possible time. He is patient, knows the best times to go to different places, if possible will wait for other boats to leave so you have a more personal experience with the dolphins or the turtles, etc. Stefan’s family is lovely and will make you the best meals, always respecting your dietary choices. If you are very lucky Stefan might bring out his guitar after dinner.

Nous avons passé 2 super journées à bunaken grâce à Stephen. On est très bien dans son homestay, il nous a permis d’organiser les sorties qu’on voulait. Il est très gentil et serviable. On mange très bien chez lui. Je recommande !

All the meals were delicious. Comfortable beds, excellent fans or AC available. Homestay in perfect location in the village. Boat transfers to/from mainland and boat tours were fabulous. Relaxed and quiet to enjoy the dolphins, turtles and corals.

Abbiamo passato dei giorni indimenticabili ospiti di Stefen e della sua fantastica famiglia. Ci siamo sentiti come a casa ed è stato molto bello rimanere una settimana perché abbiamo avuto modo di conoscerci. Le camere sono grandi, i letti comodi ed è tutto superpulito. Il cibo è veramente il top: pesce fresco tutti i giorni, frutta e verdura e a colazione dei buonissimi pancakes! Abbiamo fatto una meravigliosa escursione in barca ai sandbanks e dolphing tour. Abbiamo visto una miriade di delfini e siamo riusciti anche a buttarci in acqua con loro. Il sogno di una vita! Stefen è stato bravissimo ad avvistare i delfini e ha fatto di tutto per farci passare una giornata strepitosa con la sua bellissima barca rosa! I nostri figli di 14 e 16 anni si sono divertiti molto. Il più grande ha anche fatto una partita di calcio con la squadra locale, grazie a Stefen e suo figlio El che l'hanno invitato. Ci è spiaciuto molto partire...è una di quelle esperienze che rimangono nel cuore! Grazie Stefen. Missy e El!

Small Breakfast and Meals

Stefen was a great host. We arrived on a Sunday so the public boat wasn’t running. Stefen organised pickup for us in his private boat. Great home-cooked food.

Bigger bedsheets would have been nice. We were given individual bedsheets which only just covered us.

Stephen n Missi run a tight ship. Extremely friendly, hospitable couple. Large rooms. Great location. And with Om Ece shop 10 metres away, you can buy cold beer drinks, smokes, snacks, scooter fuel etc right on your doorstep!

Only thing they could maybe improve is choice of breakfast options. It’s the same every day. Stodgy pancakes w Nutella and jam.

I had a wonderful stay at El Homestay, and I was sad when it was time to leave! It really like I was staying with family and I was well taken care of, and the food was delicious! I'd recommend to anyone looking for a homestay experience in Indonesia.

Best homestay to stay in Bunaken. Everybody is so nice and can help you with everything. Easy boat charter for snorkeling and directly by the homestay is mc bunaken for diving. The food is amazing, we ate everyday in the homestay.

Stefen is a great host! He is always trying to make your stay as pleasant as possible & doing his utmost to help you with everything. The food is amazing! I highly recommend this homestay.

The rooms are a bit basic & the water pressure is quite low - nothing a bucket shower / mandi shower can't fix. It's part of the experience, try to embrace it!

We had an unbelievable stay at Stephen's place : - Rooms are clean and comfortable. - A/C is available. Yes it costs a little extra but it's very much worth it given the island's high temperatures. - Stephen is an amazing host, nice and genuine. We highly appreciated that he wasn't trying to oversell activities. Instead, he listen to your needs and gives suggestions. - Guests can rent a scooter and snorkeling equipment for the day. - The food prepared by Missi and the rest of the family is exquisite. - El Homestay is a nice spot to meet other travelers. We were lucky to share our stay with an amazing couple of French travelers. We're already looking forward to coming back! Sebastien

The host Stefen is absolutley nice and wants the guests to have a perfect holiday. The food is very good and was always more than enough. You can go snorkeling or watch dolphines, the prices are fair. The room was clean, with shower.

We had 4 pleasant nights. Stephen and missi are really nice. She cooks really well different meals every day. Breakfast with pancakes and topping (jam, chocolate hazelnut,etc) and fruits will make a good start for your day. Room is big and quite new. You have space to hang staff. You have a fan (which was enough for us) and AC if you need The house is quiet and near where the public boat leaves/arrives so no additionnal fee. Stephen can help you with different tours at non excessive prices. Tell him as soon as you arrive (or even before) if you want to do one of the tour so you can make a group with other guests and decrease the price. We did with one of his family a snorkeling tour where many turtles and nice corals live. A good memory, no need to feed them like they do for tourist in some other places. we also made a group with a couple of the homestay for a Dolphins/snorkeling tour which was great. In between we snorkel by ourselves and enjoy the island and its people

It was a really pleasant place to stay in bunaken, 2min walking to the beach. Stephen was a really nice host, always smiling and happy to recommend places to visit. Rooms are big and confortable, meals are delicious and diversified.

We give 10 in all categories because this lovely guest house is like to be at home...far away of home. Stephen and his family makes everything in order that you feel happy and enjoy Bunaken. And his aunt is (imho) the best cooker that que found in all Sulawesi after three weeks travelling. Each fish at lunch and dinner has been special and tasty. Terima kashi!

Excellent value for money, but none of the homestays have real places to chill comfortably. Fine for diving though 👌

We spent five nights at El Homestay as a group of four friends. Before arriving in Bunaken, I thought it would be too much time there, but once we arrived at El Homestay, we didn't want to leave.... It has been amazing staying here and experiencing Bunaken. There is a lot to do: snorkeling, diving, dolphins, sandbank, mangroves, visiting Siladen Island, hiking, renting a motorbike, and visiting the viewpoint. We can't wait to be back next year. Thank you Stefen + Family!

This was without a doubt the best homestay we have experienced in two years of traveling through Asia. Stefen has been an incredible help with everything we needed and organized for us one of the best tours of our lives: the dolphins, Nain Island sandbank, and Siladen snorkeling tour. It's been two weeks since we left his homestay, and we still think daily of our time there. We would love to go back as soon as possible. The food was delicious and very healthy.

Excellent food, lots of fruit, good variety, different dishes every meal. Fish was very fresh and often accompanied by a photo of the actual fish. Stephen and Missi made us feel like part of the family. Stephen arranged for car and boat transportation from the airport and later to Tangkoko. Also for a snorkeling boat. Very attentive and interested in our welfare.

Having to leave.

The family is super friendly and helpful. The food is fantastic, we ate super delicious fish dishes. The island is of course great for diving and snorkeling, and beautiful sunsets. Surely book your stay with El Homestay, it will not disappoint you ;)

The family was really kind and the food was amazing!

The best and kindest homestay i have ever been! This homestay is unique in many forms: the owner Steven contacted me a few days before my arrival to answer all my questions, which was a solo female traveller very helpful. He organised me a taxi and boat from Manado to come to Bunaken and back. Through this i could catch directly my flight. Steven and Misi were always helping me with any situation coming up and I had the feeling I could always ask them anything (i had a difficult situation in the middle). The prices were always transparent and fair. They also helped me to find a very good diving school and helped me planning my snorkeling trips (they have a lot of contacts). Both are very kind, warm and open. They even invited me to celebrate New Years Eve with them and their friends. On my last night we had a small farewell party to which Steven invited some friends over to play music! The room is very clean and comfortable. In the whole house I always had perfect and fast Wifi (didn't expect it on an Island:)). The room had a fan and as an add-on AC. The food is cooked fresh, delicious and a lot. Dietary requests are taken serious (as for me i dont like fish and love Tempeh :)). I also rented a Scooter from them which had a very high quality! I am super happy and grateful I stayed at El Homestay and I am already planning to come back:). I honestly fell in love with this family. If you want to have homestay which feels like home and get to know the village of Bunaken and the culture you should definetely stay at El Homestay!
