The chefs in the restaurant were very good, nothing was too much trouble for them. Pity not the same with the rest of the staff

Everything was about screwing every extra dollar out of you. We got there early the first thing I was told (by a reception that thought he was God, more him later) you'll have to pay extra to check-in early - company policy!!!. Safari they offered for 270usd that on booking.com was 54usd. We were ill and asked about the clinic and getting a doctor. The first thing was that's and extra cost. Not what's wrong how can we help!!! Also did not like being called a liar. We had an issue with the WiFi (was very slow and intermittent). Someone came first day, spent 20 mins on the phone disconnecting and working to get it fixed. Next day same thing happened different guy came and told us our device, when we told him what happened the day before he called us a liar

All the staff made us feel like part of the family. They are incredibly humble and friendly, very clean, Tharindy helped us get around the area,which was very much appreciated .and I would highly recommend this place to anyone

No hi havia pràcticament ningú, hem pogut gaudir de les piscines sols. Visualment és un espai molt bonic. Les habitacions i el llit molt grans i còmodes.

Hem tingut diversos problemes durant la nostra estada. Al poc d'arribar, la clau de la nostra habitació no funcionava. Vam anar a recepció per informar-ne i, en un primer moment, ens van assegurar que la clau era correcta i que probablement no l’havíem utilitzat bé. Després de tornar-ho a provar, vam comprovar que continuava sense funcionar i vam haver de tornar a recepció. Aquesta vegada, el personal va provar la clau i va confirmar que, efectivament, no funcionava. Entre les gestions a recepció i el canvi d’habitació, vam perdre aproximadament una hora, fet que ens va impedir gaudir de la posta de sol tal com havíem previst. Un cop instal·lats a la nova habitació van saltar els ploms i ens vam quedar sense llum. Vam haver de tornar a contactar amb recepció perquè ho solucionessin. A més, les dutxes presentaven una acumulació de calç molt visible, un estat que considerem poc apropiat per a un hotel que es presenta com a establiment de luxe. Considerem que, tenint en compte el preu que hem pagat, l’experiència no ha estat a l’altura de la qualitat ni de l’atenció que esperàvem. Ens hem allotjat ens hotels MOLT més econòmics i ens han donat millor resultats.

The buffets, food itself was good. The pool was nice but some bits were shut for maintenance. They area surrounding the hotel, the views etc was really nice.

Considering the hotel is relatively new, a lot of things were out of order. Like we checked in, open the mini bar and the door came off! The wood was rotten so the hinges just came right off, the heater didn’t work initially, and they closed half of the kids pool off with random tape. The service from some of the wait staff (especially the bar near the lobby) was really bad. We had to look for them to even get menus & to order. And they poured us half a glass of rose that was “off” and didn’t even want to give us another glass. When I demanded for a new glass as I’m paying for it, she tipped the spoilt wine into the sink and poured new rose into it. She didn’t even change the glass. You would expect better training of staff but it’s clearly not done well. I informed the guest services about the experience and they just didn’t do anything about it either.

the service of the front desk specifically miss dilmi was super! she was very friendly and very professional.. however same cannot be said about staff of the pool bar.. very unfriendly

the food at the upalawanna resturant was extremly too salty.. we had to send back the dishes four to five times.. we spent 94,000 on dinner and walked out with too much of salt in almost all of our dishes

Everything from the food to the staff to the amenities. It was a perfect getaway. Shout out to the Sous Chef for his extra care given we had a baby as well.

Prachtig aangelegd resort, ook veel voorzieningen voor kinderen zoals tafeltennis en een kids club. Fijne zwembaden en een heerlijk ontbijt. Een badmeester aanwezig bij de zwembaden en veel dieren op de property zoals apen, pauwen, etc.

Tijdens ons verblijf was het hotel volgeboekt. Het ontbijt was oncomfortabel druk en chaotisch. Ook gingen veel lokale gasten met sportkleding e.d. het zwembad in. Het hotel deed hier niets tegen terwijl ze wel een bord hebben staan met vereisten aan badkleding.

Beautiful 5 star hotel with great staff and high quality food, the rooms are extra spacious, actually the whole resort feels so spacious. We had a private meat bbq for my birthday and the chef made sure there was more than enough meat. We also did a nice sunset bicycle ride through the village which was really nice.

Property looks tired in places for a relatively new resort opened in 2016, could really do with a overhaul. Not in the premium end resorts from my experience. Buffet could be more varied. At the lower end of the shangri la group in terms of quality

Good location, on the beach and near the lake. Adult pool was great. Friendly staff. Golf course was good. Though the check in was late we got an extended check out (not related to the delay).

We got there around 2:30, half an hour after check-in time, but even after waiting ten minutes only one room was ready. We were tired after our long drive and were looking forward to refreshing a bit before lunch but couldn’t do this due to lack of rooms. Only two restaurants were open. We tried the Bojunhala buffet (Rs 8k ++ pp), there weren’t many guests and even though about an hour was available for lunch service to close, there were many empty food pans. For the price paid, the options were limited. Plus around 3:15 a staff member came to our table and said that the buffet is closing in ten and to get the food we want. Ordered room service at night and the club sandwiches were too salty and dry. Next day breakfast buffet was average but at least it had some options and lots of Sri Lankan food. In general the food was not great for a five star hotel. Rooms were average. We had lake view rooms. We were told that the ocean views were $45 extra. When checked we found that only a strip of ocean was visible so we chose to stay with our original rooms. Only plastic water bottles were available. Very limited amenities compared to other five stars that we’ve stayed in. There were a lot of renovations going on our floor.

I am been to best 5 stars hotels in Sri Lanka and all Asia but trust me Shangri La Hambantota is the best one in Sri Lanka and one of best in Asia in every aspect .Place is paradise with a lot of greenery and flowers all around. Food is so tasty and great quality. The have many swimming pools to choose. The room are big .But the best part also in hotel is the stuff.They make you feel likr a king all time.Special thanks to ms.Tharindi - the hotel management must be proud to have this person with her job in hotel , so professional. After travelling of more than 150 countries around the world I recommend Shangri La Hambantota to everyone who wants to spend best holiday

The hotel is very large.

Very big resort. Our little boy loved the pools especially the kids pool with the slides. All the staff were super lovely. Special shout out to the lovely babysitter who watched our son for a couple of hours at the kids club. Her name was Hiruni - highly recommend her!

Nothing to do/nowhere to eat close by to the hotel so your main options for food etc are at the resort however we knew this prior to booking as we only wanted to stay at the hotel and relax but just an FYI for anyone wondering.

Loved all the facilities for children and all the palm trees

Unfortunately the staff in the kids club was very unresponsive and on many times when I was in the club with my child they was sitting on their phones and not even watching the other children who was in the club without their parents. This happen when I was in the club and also my wife said the same thing. Could have had a few more evening activities and shows. The fire show on Saturday was very low quality.

We had a wonderful stay at Shangri-La Hambantota. The highlight of our experience was the staff. They are among the best hotel employees I have ever met—always smiling, genuinely welcoming, and committed to making every guest feel valued. The reception team was exceptional, with a creative and warm approach that made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The room service was outstanding and exceeded our expectations in every way. The spa experience was truly exceptional. The massage session was one of the best we have ever had, delivered with great professionalism in a relaxing atmosphere. The breakfast selection was somewhat limited for Arab travelers. However, the chefs went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. My wife has a gluten allergy, and Chef Rasika and Chef Nalaka were incredibly attentive and willing to prepare anything that suited her dietary requirements. Their dedication and exceptional hospitality truly set an example of outstanding service.

A few areas for improvement: * The pillows were not comfortable. I requested a firmer pillow, but unfortunately it did not make much difference. * The bed made squeaking noises whenever we moved, which affected our sleep quality. * During our stay, there were only limited recreational activities available within the resort.

We found the breakfast wonderful but purchasing food was very expensive and also some meals were fairly mediocre. The hotel is like an island so very disconnected from the local community. Sea too rough to swim in

Lekha from Guest Relations team was Excellent. From the moment we arrived, she handled our check-in, upgrade, birthday treat, etc efficiently. She also handles our spa booking, Trapeze booking and breakfast pack request via WhatsApp which was smooth and easy. The staff we interacted with at check-in, at the two restaurants we dined at, at the Pro Shop and Club House during our stay were all exceptionally attentive and friendly. Special mention must be made of Tharindi and Dilmini at Reception who were very helpful and prompt in resolving issues - one requiring a room change and the other with my Shangri-La Circle membership.

Although comparatively new, with a sign in the premises celebrating only the 10th anniversary, some parts of this property appear neglected and very poorly maintained. There were also hazards like lifting floor boards and unstable sliding doors we encountered.

Location is perfect

There are a few minor inconveniences that need to be addressed, such as the absence of a weighing scale and writing materials in the room. These items should be considered basic necessities in a 5-star hotel of this standard.

The property is well equipped to spend entire time at the resort

The rooms are dated for a shangrila. The furniture and fittings dont reflect today's modern finishing which you can get at similar pricing. Paying for the name and facilities.

The hotel is so close to being exceptional. There were unfortunately numerous small issues that mounted up. We booked half board but they didn’t have much variety at the dinner buffet, we asked to refund dinner which was refused. We subsequently had to eat out at other restaurants where the service was slow. Our room was not cleaned until requested, they offered to clean at 9.30pm when my children were sleeping. We also had an issue as they overcharged us for an offsite activity. They did not have our breakfast ready in the morning, as promised meaning we were late, they then offered credit which was subsequently forgotten about. We kept being asked to pay when we wanted to use room credit.

Spent few amazing days at the Shangri-la Hambantota for my birthday in may. Everything was perfect, amazing helpful staff. Lots of activities to do. Quite and clean infinity pool. The spa is beautiful. We tried couple of massages. The Ayurvedic oart of the spa is better. Me and my husband enjoyed our stay there. Not a lot of people as it was beginning of the off-season that made our stay even better ))

Food was not to impressing and not a lot of choice at the restaurants. They can do better. The classic massage was not what we were expecting. Unfortunately the staff was not really professionally trained. Also we had a bit difficulty as not every staff was good in English

We had one of the most beautiful and memorable stays at Shangri la Hambantota during our 4 day vacation and birthday celebration. From the very beginning, everything was handled perfectly and professionally, making the booking process smooth and stress free. A very special thank you to Ms. Tharindi for helping me throughout the booking and arrangements. She went above and beyond to make our stay extra special, including arranging a beautiful birthday bed setup with lovely sweet goodies waiting in the room. We were also lucky enough to receive a room upgrade thanks to her generosity and kindness. The entire hotel experience was exceptional. The rooms were spacious, luxurious, and extremely comfortable. The food was absolutely amazing throughout our stay always fresh, delicious, and with plenty of variety. Special thanks to Chef Rathanayake for making us feel at home every time we visited the buffet. His hospitality truly stood out. Also, thank you to Mr. Kapila for always arranging our table beautifully and taking care of us so warmly during our meals. Both the pool area was massive and beautiful, with direct beach access which created such a relaxing atmosphere. Even though swimming in the sea is not recommended, the view and surroundings were stunning. There were so many activities to enjoy including the golf courts, spa, zipline, flying trapeze, and the evening bike ride which became one of our favorite memories from the trip. A very special thank you to Mr. Priyadarshana for arranging and guiding the sunset bike ride so carefully. He made the experience so enjoyable and even helped us do a small sunset pre shoot during the ride, which turned out amazing. Anyone visiting Shangri la Hambantota should definitely try the sunset bike ride it’s peaceful, fun, and truly unforgettable. Overall, every single staff member treated us with genuine care and hospitality, making us feel welcomed throughout the entire stay.

Honestly, there was very little to dislike during our stay. If I had to mention one small thing, it would be that swimming at the beach area is restricted due to sea conditions, but the beautiful ocean view, pool area, and all the other activities more than made up for it. Overall, everything from the hospitality to the food and experiences exceeded our expectations.

The property is very beautiful with great landscape. It surely creates a one of a lifetime experience. Staff is very courteous, food is good, property is very clean. We really liked our stay. Special touch by the staff makes it even more memorable. Shout out to Kapila and his team for attending to us so nicely. Couldn’t have asked for more.

Everything! This property is unique, clean and exceptional. I had been dreaming about visiting this place for many years and I was not let down. The staff are so acutely attentive, the food was fantastic, and the golf experience was phenomenal.

There is one small improvements I would suggest such as : - a Spa Menu & Golf Course Guide/Magazine in the room . Asides from that, I have nothing to complain about!

Modern, well secured rooms with next to zero exposure to lizards/insects (we did manage to get one tiny gecko in one of our rooms). Good selection of food across venues and beautiful ocean views. Outside - really enjoyed observing monkeys, massive lizards, mongoose and other animals, which is part of a great offer overall. Golf courses right next, although not really my theme. Not seen other hotels in the area, but it is a great base for parks/safari visits.

We did get a gecko in the room, which was important for some of us. Otherwise - all good.

Мы реально в шоке насколько здесь люди стараются и искренне хотят чтобы ваш отдых прошел комфортно. Отдельное спасибо сотруднику кафе (к сожалению не запомнила его имя), своей улыбкой и добрым отношением делал каждый завтрак и ужин невероятно приятным. А также менеджеру Tharindi за внимательность к деталям, сопровождение на каждом этапе и быстрое решение вопросов ☺️

Check-in was a very big job for staff...wasted so much of time. Booked through booking.com where it was clearly stated about discount for activities....but at resort staff was unaware so we have to call manager and the problem was solved. Booked Yala safari through resort....staff carelessly sent us to different safari park on behalf of some other guests and then everything was mess up there....problem was not solved and we have to come back without doing that activity. WILL NEVER STAY THERE.
