It was a cozy place in serenity. Very friendly hosts and we felt like home . Our stay at green cottage got us back to 90’s era with delicious meals during day and night. The safari arranged by Sandaru was amazing we loved it!!! 🌟 Thank you very much 🩷

Near the back side river there are venomous snake so need to be careful , no shops / restaurants nearby need to go to the city to find one. The spa is a little average 😊

Wir waren für zwei Nächte in dieser schönen, modernen Unterkunft. Wir wurden sehr herzlich empfangen und bewirtet. Die Gespräche mit der Gastgeberin waren sehr angenehm, freundlich und informativ. Sie ist sehr aufgeschlossen. Besonders ist das schmackhafte einheimische Essen hervorzuheben. An dem liebevoll eingerichteten Essplatz war es ein doppelter Genuss. In dem romantischen, grünen Garten konnten wir wunderbar entspannen. Danke auch für die Vermittlung der Safari, die uns sehr gefallen hat. Wir können die Unterkunft nur empfehlen.

Had a wonderful stay at Green Paradise. The owners are super lovely and knowledgeable and they prepared a truly special candlelit dinner for us, some of the best food we had in Sri Lanka. There's also a stunning river just down the road which is perfect for having a swim.

Green Paradise was truly a one of a kind stay, we are so grateful to have found this place and had the pleasure of staying there and meeting these wonderful people!

Wir haben hier drei wunderschöne Tage verbracht. Die Gastfreundschaft von Lahiru, ihrem Mann und dem Schwiegervater war sehr herzlich und wir hatten viele wunderbare Gespräche. Besonders beeindruckt hat uns der liebevoll angelegte Garten des Schwiegervaters, der vor etwa sechs Jahren entstanden ist und ein echter Traumgarten ist. Wir haben vieles über die Pflanzen gelernt, welche mit Sorgfalt gehegt und gepflegt werden. Wir durften nach der ersten Nacht in ihr neustes Bungalow einziehen und es hat uns auch in diesem neuen Bungalow an nichts gefehlt - Klimaanlage, Moskitonetze, Wasserkocher, Sauberkeit… einfach alles perfekt. Das Frühstück war sehr gut und die drei Abendessen ebenfalls extrem lecker und authentisch. Nur wenige Schritte entfernt hat es einen Fluss, in dem man herrlich baden kann - unsere Kinder (5 und 10 Jahre) wollten gar nicht mehr raus. Die Safari wurde ebenfalls perfekt durch sie organisiert. Wir können diese Unterkunft nur weiterempfehlen und würden jederzeit wieder zurückkehren! Nochmals vielen herzlichen Dank für die schönen Tage bei euch! Julia und David mit Noah und Kira ♥️

The hosts were wonderful and made us feel like family. We appreciated their openness and willingness to break down the host/guest wall, so that we could have a more intimate look at what life is like in Udawalawa. The nature in garden is stunning, we felt relaxed as soon we got there. The dinner was sensational - so much delicious food. Nice to see normal life going on in the non-touristy villages around. Great experience in Sri Lanka if you want to leave the beaten track.

Everything was perfect: three nights, which gave me enough time to go on safari and visit the Sinharaja Forest. The room was spotless and comfortable. The family is lovely and cooks very well!

It is just beautiful. The room was clean. The staff were all amazing. The dinner they made night 1 was a feast and one of the best curries I have had so far in Sri Lanka. I felt very relaxed there and it felt luxurious and tropical

It was slightly out the way but that wasn’t an issue as I dined in and then went on safari. There is accommodation behind theirs that has music on quite late. This wasn’t an issue for me as i was up late but may be worth noting if you plan to get an earlier night.

It was an amazing stay, absolutely everything was perfect ! The room was super clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Very quiet, perfect for a nice rest The owner and people working there were adorable, very helpful and friendly ! Also the food was one of the best we had in our all journey in Sri Lanka 🙏🤎 They also organised our safari with the best guide and nice massages in the morning We loved it and can 100% recommend to stay there

The garden is beautiful, and the bungalows too! We ate here the most delicious rice and curry of all Sri Lanka, but most of all, we met an amazing family with whom we had really interesting conversations about Sri Lanka’s culture. It was definitely the best accommodation we’ve had in one month of traveling all over Sri Lanka. Just 1 minute away, there is a nice spot to swim in the river.

Väga soe pererahvas ja vastuvõtt, fantastiline õhtusöök ja hommikusöök. Mugav bungalo (konditsioneer, mugav dushiruum, puhas ja sääsevaba voodi (suured võrgud). Aed oli lihtsalt imeline! Nende poolt korraldatud safari oli väga mõistliku hinna ja väga hea kvaliteediga. Kõik oli lihtsalt uskumatult hea!

Der große Bungalow ist gemütlich eingerichtet. Es gibt heißes Wasser und sowohl AC als auch einen Ventilator im Zimmer. Moskitonetz über jedem Bett. Die Gastgeber sind super freundlich und das Essen, vor allem das Abendessen ist extrem lecker.

Piękny ogród, pyszne jedzenie, wysoki standard, bardzo miłe przyjęcie. To był mój drugi pobyt na Sri Lance i zdecydowanie najlepszy nocleg spośród wszystkich dotychczasowych. Żałuję że byliśmy tam tylko jedną noc.

Je recommande vivement ce logement. J’y ai passé seulement une nuit mais c’était parfait. Il y a tout ce qu’il faut, la chambre est grande et confortable, le jardin est très beau. De plus les hôtes ont été absolument adorables j’ai beaucoup aimé l’échange que nous avons eu, notamment concernant le jardin. Merci beaucoup pour votre accueil

We will forever cherish the memories we made at the green paradise cottage! The whole family was so caring and welcoming. They truly represent Sri Lankan hospitality. Our sons played together, laughed, ran, swam in the river although they didn’t speak the same language. They took turns offering to hold our baby to allow us to eat or shower or just get ready. We immediately felt at home. The room was spacious, a crib was provided for our baby, there was an AC and mosquito nets. The garden is so lush and peaceful. The food was delicious (we had both breakfast and dinner here) The safari they organized for us was incredible. The cottage is about 20 min away from the park entry. We saw so many elephants and our guide Pasindu was knowledgeable, drove safely, helped us set up both our kids with their car seats in the jeep, and was genuinely nice. We are so happy we chose to come here instead of way too popular Yala. There weren’t many jeeps and everyone was respectful of the animals, something that was very important to us. We highly recommend staying here and hope we get to one day revisit Sandaru, Yenul and their family ❤️ Thank you for everything Laura and Joseph

The Green Paradise Cottage is an outstanding place. It's wonderful what the owner family has created here, all family members are involved in the project. A green oasis and very, very tasty food. The stay was perfect for us with two small children. So far there is one bungalow, wonderfully furnished with everything you need.

Hele lieve familie die alles voor je wilt regelen. Het eten bij de familie is ook heerlijk en elke maaltijd weer anders. Ook de tuin is fantastisch, heerlijk groen en ze kunnen je er van alles over vertellen. En vlakbij kun je een heerlijke duik nemen in de rivier terwijl de aapjes vanuit de bomen kijken. Echt even lekker bij komen :). De tour is een aanrader, goede prijs via hun en leuke ervaren gids.

Helaas is er, naast de safari, niet zoveel te doen waardoor we er niet langer zijn gebleven, dat hadden we eigenlijk wel gewild.

TODO, la familia que lo lleva, lo limpio y cómodo que estaba todo, aire acondicionado y wifi que funcionaba perfectamente. La comida que nos preparó Sandaru para cenar típica del país estaba deliciosa, tienen que probarla! Además de como tanto ella como Lahiru nos ayudaron con el safari a Udawalawe y nos contaron muchas cosas sobre su cultura. Tienen un jardín precioso y el lugar tiene magia. Ojalá tengas la suerte de poder alojarte aquí alguna vez en tu vida.

If you’re visiting Udawalawe National Park, this is hands-down the perfect place to stay. The location is peaceful and surrounded by lush greenery-just a few minutes from the park entrance, making it the ideal base for a true wildlife adventure. We went on a 7-hour safari, and it was the absolute highlight of our trip! It included a delicious free lunch, and we saw elephants, buffalo, crocodiles, peacocks, eagles, and much more. The safari driver was outstanding-friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about nature. We felt safe, informed, and fully immersed in the experience. A huge thank you to the owner, Lahiru, who is incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful. He arranged everything for us with great care, and his warm hospitality truly made us feel at home. The cottage itself is clean, cozy, and surrounded by nature-the perfect place to relax and reconnect with the environment. There’s even a beautiful river nearby, where I enjoyed a refreshing swim. That peaceful moment in nature is something I’ll never forget. We also loved the authentic Sri Lankan meals served at the property-homecooked, fresh, and bursting with flavour. Every meal felt special. This isn’t just a place to sleep-it’s a complete experience. Nature, comfort, adventure, and genuine hospitality all in one. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Udawalawe. Our stay with Lahiru & Sandaru was amazing! We were really made to feel like part of the family during our time at the Green Paradise Cottage. Lahiru arranged our safari trip for a very good price and our guide Pasindu was brilliant, very knowledgeable and a fun guy to spend a day with! We saw many elephants, birds, monkeys, mongeese, golden jackals and crocs! Highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. Sandaru is an amazing cook and the food was plentiful and high quality, the best traditional cooking we experienced over our time in Sri. The cottage is set in a beautiful garden full of fruit and spice & there is a gorgeous river running behind the property, the name definitely suits! Highly recommended and would love to return someday.

That we didn't realise how amazing it was going to be until we got there, had we known we would have stayed longer.

Location was amazing it was just meters away from this big river that you could jump in if you like. We booked this accommodation for 2 nights we liked it so much and booked another night. You get this whole cabana and the property to yourself which was amazing and private. Food was really good and they accommodate any food requests as well. They organised a safari we ended seeing no elephants to been covered by a whole herd of elephants almost seeing a pair “mate”😆 Overall it was an amazing experience in Udawalawa and thank you Lahiru for having us! Definitely recommend this place.

Everything was great! A lovely little cottage in a beautiful little jungle garden. The family that ran it were exceptionally friendly and couldn’t be anymore helpful. Loved having them share their knowledge of all the spices and fruits growing in their paradise! Highly recommended. ☺️

This cottage had the most amazing garden, was such a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. Kusumsiri spent over 5 years growing this magnificent jungle garden which was one of the many highlights of staying here. Dinner and breakfast, made by Pushpa, were truly delicious, some of the best Sri Lankan food we had on our trip, and in our lives! Pasindu took us on such a wonderful safari. We were so lucky to see so many wild animals, especially the elephants, young and old. Him and his wife Malitui are both talented spotters of all creatures. They made our safari experience truly special. Lahiru showed us around the garden and answered all our questions about plants, food and life! The room is also fantastic! Very comfortable and had everything we needed, like a boutique hotel. We wish we had the time to stay longer and will return in the future. 100% recommend to anyone and everyone!

What a wonderful place to stay. Even better than the photos. The room was pristine and well equipped, with WiFi, AC, hot showers, mosquito nets and comfortable beds. The hosts were super friendly and welcoming and spoke very good English. The garden is beautiful and immaculately maintained, it really was a green paradise. The food was delicious, we tasted lots of different traditional Sri Lankan dishes with generous portions provided. The aubergine curry was a particular highlight. Highly recommend booking your Safari through the hosts, we did and it was a treat. Our guide was fantastic and he joyfully shared his knowledge and passion for animals with us. We saw lots of Elephants including babies and many other animals and birds, which we think was only possible due to his local knowledge. Don’t miss your chance to stay here if you’re in the area.

I can hardly put into words how much I enjoyed my two days at green pradise cottage. Everything here is just perfect. The cottage, the beds, the garden - everything is designed with a great attention to the detail. It really is a green paradise! The family took such good care of me that I felt absolutely comfortable and welcome. I had breakfast and also dinner. It was the best food on my trip and they took into account that I don't eat meat. I was able to talk to Sandura about so many topics and get to know the Sri Lankan culture better. For mine it was like a lesson for life :) Thank you for everything and being so heartwarming. I hope I can visit you again one day. My heart is filled with wonderful impressions.

If you are debating about where to stay near Udawalawe, no doubt, book here. They are recently opened so limited reviews but it’s a charming safari bungalow, the only one on the property, with a beautiful garden and thoughtful dining area for guests. Speaking of dining, this will be the best, most prolific food you’ve had in Sri Lanka. They really thoughtfully accommodated my vegetarian and gluten free diet with ease. There is a lovely river near the property you can explore and enjoy reading and relaxing between safari journeys and be well taken care of. They coordinated our safari, which was incredible! So many up close elephant encounters!, and helped us with transportation to them and away, making the whole experience care free and enjoyable. If you can enjoy a rustic safari cabin experience (well, not so rustic because there is a/c 😆) while being cared for by the sweetest family then look no further and enjoy Green Paradise.

I had a lovely stay at Green Paradise Cottage, the garden was so beautiful with interesting plants, and the family were really friendly. They gave me traditional Sri Lankan breakfast and also I asked for dinner in the evening which was so welcome having arrived at 7 and travelling by bus to get there. One of the family also ran safaris, so organised it through them really easily and I had an amazing time seeing a whole family of elephants by the lake-very lucky!

Everything about the place is amazing. Family running it is the sweetest, room is super comfortable with all the amenities needed, and situated in the garden of Eden. We had both dinner and breakfast there, which were both very delicious. And all of this at a real bargain price. Definitely underpriced for what they offer. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer.

One of the best home stays I have ever been to in Sri Lanka!! The family is so kind and careing, the food is amazing and the place is just beautiful with it's quite location in nature, right next to a calm river, very quite and safe neighbourhood and in walking distance to Udawalawe City (though we didn't really feel like leaving this place as there is everything you need there :) The Safari with Pasindu was also a Highlight (I did one before but this one was the best as his knowledge and thoughtfulnes with planning the tour as well a the respect for the animals is exceptional!)

The accommodation was super nice, we felt like we were in a jungle! The service was also great! One thing that we feel sorry about is that we did not go on a safari tour because our circumstances were really unfortunate that day. We drove from Ella and it was pouring rain so even though we protected our stuff (electronics) with waterproof covers it still got destroyed, we were soaking wet and didn’t wanna go on a tour in these weather conditions. We were just bummed and didn’t feel like we would enjoy the tour as much. But the owners were super nice about it :)

The place was very great, very beautiful garden. Very friendly and helpful family. The room is great, very quiet location, we recommend it. definitely try dinner and breakfast! The traditional dinner and breakfast were wonderful! We also booked a safari tour, the driver was amazing, he explained everything, you don’t need a guide when taking a tour from Green paradise, you can’t explain by the words how cool was it! I recently stayed at Green Paradise Cottage hotel in Udawalawe for a safari trip, and I must say, the experience was magical. The ambience truly made me feel like part of a family, enhancing my overall stay. I highly recommend their dinner, as the host prepared the most delicious food I’ve ever had in Sri Lanka. Everything was impeccably clean, which added to my comfort. Additionally, the host was incredibly helpful, assisting me from A to Z in planning the safari. The pricing for the safari was very convenient compared to other options. Overall, this hotel offered a memorable experience that I highly recommend!

Cottage located in the peacful area surronded by nature, we were hosted by a very friendly family. Pasindu and his wife made sure that we are comfortable and are not lacking anything. We also enjoyed tasty home made food for dinners and breakfast in large amounts, there was always more than we could eat ;) The cottage itself was also comfortable, not lacking anything, there was even a hair dryer. It was also possible to get a breakfast as a take away for early Safari, which was important to us. The family was also helpful with advice about area. Out of all our stays in Sri Lanka so far this was definitely most special.
