Beautiful, immaculate gardens. Peaceful tranquil nature. Lively cottage with fireplace and quality bedding. Delicious homemade bread and jams. Bar
More than expected. High quality beds. It was a cold weekend but we were snug with electric blankets and fireplace. The gardens and the view was awesome. A homebaked bread to welcome us.
We love everything!
The most stunning property right on the hill in Magoebaskloof. The units are cosy, located deep in the forest, maintained daily and have everything you need for a great stay. The farm is well located to visit the local sights. And the host - Shahrzad- is just the most lovely lady! We will be back
Absolutely nothing!
The silence of the farm was amazing. It allowed us time to unwind and escape from the city. The hostess, Shahrzad was so warm and friendly. We received eggs, fresh milk, butter, and preserves in the fridge and a lively home-baked bread. What an unexpected spoil.
Mario and I had a really good stay - the atmosphere was homely and very cozy and the beds were very comfortable.
Perhaps the ventalation of the fire-place
We had a wonderful stay. The cottage was lovely. The host was so friendly and had the most beautiful gardens with lots of lovely birds.
Nothing
The Gardens on the property is beyond belief. It is the epitome of tranquility and beauty. Also the proximity to the indigenous forests ensured that there were numerous birds around
there are no complaints
Ruime goed ingerichte cottage. Mooie tuin en een zeer vriendelijke host.
Niks
Shahrzaad is a wonderful host, and we loved buying all the homemade jams and cordials to bring home with Us!
nothing.,
The gardens and the bird life are exceptional. The hostess was a gem, always available to assist if needed.
Gardens and farm is perfect for a quick time away from everything
Nothing
What a magical place to stay. The gardens are incredible. Each turn you discover a new piece of paradise. Loved the loaf of home made bread and the listing of birds. Our cottage was beautifully equipped and super comfortable. Shahrzad and her two lovely very pooches made us feel so welcome.
Toller Garten, super freundliche Atmosphäre, leckeres Brot, Eier etc.
Location, Location and location, surrounded by plants, flowers and having forest at back yard. The two days we were there was and cold ( 9⁰C), that's make us enjoy ourselves with warm from the wood fireplace in the house. The love and attention of the Owner, she checked us to know how we wre during the journey and the souvenirs we found in the house, a home made loaf, fresh milk, eggs and the usual caffe, tea, sugar, salt, remember that the house was self catering.
Nothing
Great views, Extremely peaceful and comfy, Really warm and kind hosts, Unit has all the necessary amenities, Daily cleaning, Accessible location - +/- 20 - 30 mins drive (taking into account the gravel) to most places of interest. Extra touches including the electric blankies, freshly baked bread, eggs, and fresh milk delivered in the morning.
Nothing, really.
Flower garden, forest walk around the farm tranquility.

The property was very quiet and peaceful, a secluded retreat in the forest. The unit has views over the gardens and access to nearby braai facilities. the unit was self-catering and equipped with the necessary utensils and crockery to prepare meals. A freshly baked bread with jam was also provided. The room was serviced in the morning. There is a local restaurant - the Pot n Plow, which is located some 5km away along the R71 towards Haenertsburg and has a decent menu, which is well executed. Their pizzas are excellent.
The last section of road from the R71 tarred road is accessible to regular non-off-road vehicles, but should be traversed with caution as their are one or two spots that are a little rough with one "sump-buster" rock projecting from the road surface. Fortunately the untarred section of road is only 1.9km long.
Beautiful accommodation, comfortable cottage stocked with everything oe would need. Surrounded by skyscraper trees, avocado trees, and the most incredible gardens. Loved the complimentary delicious homemade bread, milk and the jams made onsite. There is also a mini farmstore where you can buy treats from this farm. Appreciated the wonderful and warm welcome and chats with the owner. She also gave recommendations on the surrounding area
There's is a dirt road to travel before getting to the cottages but it's so worth it once you arrive
Beautiful setting and thank you for upgrading my booking to a room with a double bed. Really liked the booklet on the birds and routes that can be driven in the area to find them. Perhaps mention to guests that the Woodbush drive down to the Debengeni turn-off is currently damaged by rains and only suitable for high-clearance vehicles until it gets graded. Birds were spectacular though!
Lit the fire in the fireplace and the room was filled with smoke despite opening the vent lever on the chimney. Suggest that this is checked.
Breathtaking view! Loved the farm style aesthetics in the room with forest view from the kitchen
The garden was beautiful
I liked everything about the farm, our cottage, the morning freshly bread and eggs every morning. The gardens are fabulous and very well taken care of. I can't stop talking about our wonderful host, Shahrzad and Bret. They are very warm and welcoming. The cottage was well equipped with all you need. The farm is close to one of the hiking trails. We got to see the tallest tree in the world 🌎 and some waterfalls.
Gravel road leading to the farm but not so bad.
We had a wonderful stay at Kuhestan Cottages with extended family. Unfortunately the weather was not kind but the comfortable accommodation meant we could make the most of it. And when it was clear the views were amazing!
Lovely host. Beautiful place. Peaceful
Nothing
Really good fun we had a group of us and self catered together . The rooms were well equipped and the gardens were beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful location. Host were amazing.
Nothing
Fan in room would be nice. Duvet heavy for summer.
The farm has a beautiful garden which felt like paradise. I wished I could have stayed longer.
Just a suggestion, weather very hot and plenty of bugs in the evening so a little fan would have been wonderful to help with the heat and keep the bugs at bay.
Hosts exceptional. Extremely warm welcome. Unit lovely - clean, quiet and private, and very well equipped. Location is excellent. Deep enough into the forest but not too far from the R71. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and forests. Had sightings of Knysna Turacos and a Samango monkey.
Cannot beat perfection.
- The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. - I loved the freshly baked bread brought to our room every morning. - The place is so peaceful.
Nothing.
Beautiful setting in a garden. Well setup kitchen.
All was good
Neat, clean and comfortable cottage. Gorgeous gardens. Excellent marmalade from the farm shop. Quiet and peaceful
The bread was nice, we got everything we needed in the cottage. The hosts and stuff were kind. The place was quiet, nothing disturbed us. We enjoyed the beautiful walk in the gardens. Highly recommended
We loved everything about the place.
Everything. Stunning view from the reception the tranquility and being in such a beautiful place. The gardens are out of this world. Nestled in between the avocado trees and surrounded by the forest. Fresh milk delivered every day. On arrival we found fresh home made bread homemade jam and eggs. Definitely a place to visit again and again. The bird life is amazing too.
Nothing
The farm was literally heaven on earth. Our hosts Bret and Sharhzad were more than accommodating. Exceptional service, fresh home grown food, and beautiful views! Cant wait to visit again.
Beautiful environment. Beautiful beautiful garden! Very well-equipped and comfortable accommodation. Lovely view. Birder's paradise! Will definately go back! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Nothing. Wish we could have stayed longer!
This organic farm is located in a very beautiful area close to indigenous forest full of birds specific to this area. The owners are generous and very welcoming hosts and the large gardens are simply stunning.
We enjoyed the quiet and peaceful nature of Kuhestan Organic Farm. Brett and Shahrzad are wonderful hosts. The cottages were clean and comfortable and had all we needed. The gardens are absolutely beautiful and viewing the sunrise from the wooden deck outside the farm shop is an absolute must. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay.
The gardens are amazing. Room is spacious and kitchen well equipped. Will go back and hopefully enjoy all the beautiful walks we missed as a result of bad weather which is unpredictable. Highly recommend.w
Weather, but we had a wonderful fireplace which made it cozy and romantic!
Perfect self-catering in Magoebaskloof, you only need to drive about 2km off R71 on a gravel road. The host prepared baked bread to welcome me to their property and the room has a full kitchen with eggs/ milk/ butter to prepare own breakfast. The chalet is very big with a fireplace/ wall heater/ electric blanket; it is serviced daily, and they even prepare the wood for the fireplace, you just need to light the fire and the room warms up very quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.
Nothing
We wanted tranquility, as we had been quite ill with covid some time prior to our visit. We received all that and more in Kuhestan. Birdlife was amazing. The bread, butter, jam, eggs, and milk were a real treat, and the hospitality was wonderful. Thank you.
We have nothing negative to say.
Kuhestan exceeded all expectations. Stunning property, exquisite gardens, fabulous hosts. Highly recommended, we’ll definitely be back.
Comfortable stay. Lovely fully equipped accommodation with value added quality. Breathtaking views & easily accessible hiking areas. Great hosts! Couldn’t have asked for better and will definitely be back.
Excellent value for money. Really hospitable owners who went out of their way to add a homely touch. Soothing and relaxing.
Wall heater not so effective in heating cabin. Fire was difficult to start.
Absolutely beautiful setting, warm and very welcoming hosts and lovely gardens to explore. The unit had everything we needed and so much more, the pictures don't do it justice. Catered very well for the cold, from the lovely fireplace (with lots of firewood provided daily) wall heater, electric blankets and heated towel rails. A special thanks for the extra breakfast goodies (milk, eggs, butter, jam and freshly baked bread). Thank you Virginia for taking care of the cleaning of the unit, you did an excellent job and were so considerate of our schedule. Thank you Shahrzad for the directions to the tallest planted tree in the world which we finally did find 😀. You live in such a beautiful part of SA, we will definitely be returning and will most certainly be staying with you again.
There was nothing we did not like, I highly recommend this property.
The farm is beautiful and peaceful. Our rooms were clean and our wonderful hosts provided us with everything we would need, even some homemade bread, jam and butter! Perfect for summer and winter
Nothing! Place is perfect
We loved the melodies of birds at dawn and their choruses at dusk, in tune with the whistling pines, true nature's concert. Kuhestan is a Birders and Flower lovers paradise, with hidden gems of treasures waiting to be discovered at every corner and tree-top; and the humourous "Anthophile" host "Sharz" and her partner Brett ready to share their experience. "We went to find peace and quiet, and ended up receiving more from nature; healing, happiness, rejuvenation, and inspiration.'" Thank you for hosting us Brett and Sharz- we will be back in Spring.
Our stay was just short, albeit 4 nights. Should have booked a month :)
The room was very cosy, welcoming hosts, beautiful views and nice touches that made it feel like home away from home. The cleanliness as well.No load shedding
Absolutely nothing.
It was the most amazing place with kind hosts. The forest in front of the cottage is mesmerising and the information booklet on the different bird species in the cottage was very insightful. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone wanting to connect with nature!
Everything
WiFi was VERY slow :-)
Very neat and clean and very hospitable owners who are extremely friendly and assisted with the booking on very short notice. Beds were very comfortable and gardens perfectly manicured.
Nothing. It was perfect.
They gave us bread with milk, eggs, jam and butter and other things for breakfast. It was just amazing. I enjoyed it so much. Very peaceful. My partner and I loved it.
Nothing everything was amazing
Everything. The beautiful scenery, private accommodation, modern finishes and great hosts. Really felt like home away from home.

The gardens were absolutely beautiful
Nothing to falter
The gardens are exceptional. Freshly baked bread & jams by Shahrzad were a delicious treat. You can do all of your birding at the farm!
The location of the cottage is very quite and refreshing
everything is excellent
KUhestan is amazing. From the warm welcome by the owners, who, by the way checked if I was safe while driving to the property, wow! Kuhestan is a gem nestled in the mountains with clean air in abundance. Their garden was splendid and such a surprise. They have an amazing viewing deck that lets you see out for miles. The chalets are amazing! Fully equipped, private, and so peaceful. The place is beautiful 😍 I'm definitely going back soon. I love it!
Nothing..
Tranquility, absence of TV, proximity to nature, refreshing and the laid back nature of the environment which promotes effective bonding.
